[Q] root sch-i905 - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, can someone point me to a tutorial on how to root my device? I have a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 4g lte 32gig (aka the sch-i905). Also, would it take off all my apps and such in the process?

Check this link for root files. Review the stickies for how to root, but use the files from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16993221#post16993221
It does wipe your system clean, I think. I haven't personally rooted, haven't really had the need to. But all the apps you bought with the Market can be re-installed again easily.

I think the rooting methods are the same for all. Which is why there is only 1 guide in general.

So, would I download the .zip file attached, drop it into my sd card, boot into recovery, install it, reboot, and viola I have root + SU?

btw my android version is 3.2

Are you saying to read before following the instructions?
Where's the fun, adventure, and ultimate panic, if you do that and get it right the first time?

True story But yeah the methods are the same, just install it via recovery, I think it's fine via stock too, someone mentioned it in this ever so cluttered Q&A section

Yes, it's possible, and you've got several choices. Good luck finding them.
I've searched already but did'nt found exactly what to do and i dont want to risk taking the wrong path.

Seriously, you didn't even need to search. Q&A section. Fifth sticky. (SERIOUSLY. Like 3 inches below the "NEW THREAD" button you used to start this thread)
Roots any i9100 that has 2.3.5 or earlier.

Well i've read it already and been reading a lot about it but i did not asked it if i knew what to use!
Maybe to you it's easy but i can't seem to find the answer that gives me the certain things to do/use.
Hopefully someone will give me the helpful/right answer (as i did in some posts) because when you take the time to reply it might as well be usefull.

Read post #4 of that thread. It has a WORKING link to the "[04/Jan][ROOTING/UNROOTING] DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit)
" thread. (I say working because post #1 has NONworking link to the same page. Thread author didn't link it properly)
If you can't understand this and think it's not helpful, I would suggest you not root your phone. No offense.
Thnx i've got it.
I'm not a noob but there is so much info and it's sometimes difficult to read the correct things because of the language.
You say tmobile sgs2. Tread carefully on what is compatible.

I think he's fine. He's in the Netherlands, according to his profile, so T-Mobile Europe, not T-Mobile USA... so he SHOULD have an I9100(and does, going by the screen shot of his "About Phone" screen in post #1), not an SGH-T989.
Im fine indeed
Now trying to find out what the Possibility's are now it's rooted.
FE: now it's possible to flash a custom rom?
What are the essential things i have to do now that it's rooted?

You could have flashed a custom ROM withOUT rooting. Indeed, there are several custom ROMs that come already rooted.
EDIT: Sorry, ignore the above sentence. I'm mistaken. You need root. My bad.
Sorry, but in my opinion, you went backwards on this. You rooted for the sake of rooting, then wondered "what can I do now that I have root?", instead of rooting because you needed to do something that required root. But I digress, and I'll get off my soapbox now.
That said, several apps that require root that I like are DroidWall (control what apps can access the internet via 3g and/or wifi), SixAxis Controller (use a ps3 controller on your phone - great for emulators), AdAway (ad blocker), Chainfire 3D (for Tegra only compatible games), Root Explorer (essential for tweaking files in system folders), Startup manager (control what apps are allowed to start when the phone boots), Titanium Backup (backup/restore applications and their data, freeze apps), and SetCPU (undervolt/overclock/change governors/etc).
First of all i rooted for the apps that need rooting like titanium and some other apps.
Second, indeed for flashing because i always thought it was essential. (saw your edit)
Third, i read some things about security issues (dataleaks fe.)and thought i had to root to solve them.
Maybe i'm totally wrong but as i said before there is so much info that its hard to pick the right things out of the topics.
Thanx for your help. Learning more everyday

Flashing roms two methods ODIN or CWM and now MOBILE ODIN .
If you want to flash a custom rom you read that roms install instructions no more and no less .
Most but not all custom roms are flashed via CWM
CWM requires root and CWM install .
Root + CWM .

OK getting further and further every minute
Now know that with the actual root i can't flash.
Do i need to unroot this root before Root CWM?
So i read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and took Odin.
Now wondering wich CF Root to take.
My kernelversion says: [email protected]#2
Wich kernel i need to take:
this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v4.4-CWM4.zip
or this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v5.0-CWM5.zip
Or am i reading it wrong?
KJ2 might as well take v5 CWM
jje
And what about the unroot part? Do i need to unroot first and then CF-root?

The problem here is you failed to read the rules. You just made an account here and accepted without reading. That is highly frowned upon. Please reread the rules for XDA and then you might understand the response you got.

I was on GB when I rooted following these directions. I would use hasoon's too though. This thread basically just explains what his tool it's doing for you. . don't use CWM, use 4ext.

[Q]Rooting and other considerations.

Well, hello. I just got my 9300, and wush to root it. I know there are several ways to do this - CF, CF-auto and so on. What should I use, if I most likely will flash CM afterwards? As far as I understand, CWM recovery is suggested... Is there any rooting method / recovery -comparison thread?
Also, I've the 16 gig model, but I see both /root and internal sd as 11 gig. Is there any explanation on that? I mean, where did the space go? This is so different from Galaxy Ace

I still use the old cf root, just because it always works, then I just flash an updated recovery after, personally I use phils can touch, but there are others out there, I'm just old fashioned!

.......and the missing space is data partition I do believe.
You won't find comparison threads as generally they aren't allowed due to the in fighting they cause. Instead go to development/original development and you will find all relevant information in the original post of each thread
slaphead20: You hit the mark. I think there was something about partitions somewhere - need to check it again. About comparisons, I understand that, thus I'll check them out too. Now, it seems my path is either CF-Root or Toolkit, as CF-Auto returns to factory recovery after rooting.
Mods: please lock/remove if approriate.

If you use cf root update your recovery afterwards (I'm not sure if Chainfire has updated the included recovery for the sds fix) I just flash a recovery image with mobile Odin or cwm
Ps........q go in q&a

The path from stock to Jedi X?

So I've rooted my past two phones and have installed ROMs on them also.. This morning I had it rooted using odin and then tried to get Jedi X on, but screwed up somewhere. Once the download is done I'll use odin and get it back to stock. What do I need to do to get this done properly? I've read a lot but I am still confused..
Thanks in advance for the help.

Okay, so I've read that about getting rooted, and I've made it past that step. When I click where it says "Proceed to Adam Outler's thread for unlocking the bootloader HERE" It says on that thread "You are expected to be STOCK.... Stock anything, but stock." So although it would already be rooted, I can follow those instructions?

If you go to galaxy note 2 root dot com ,Max , the guy who runs the site has detailed instructions and videos to go along with it. His videos are super easy to follow and I've never had a problem with any of my phones or tablets when I followed his guides. Actually I was always to nervous to root my devices until I could actually watch the whole process. Sorry about the site address.

No joke. And just from a quick glance, that was posted in December so I would imagine it is outdated given VRALL.
If you just follow adams thread its super easylike 7min.like it says though must be fully stock and non rooted so it might take you like 15min because it sounds like your rooted already so you just need to get back to stock unrooted then follow the instructions

Okay so if I just read all this correctly, I need to
1. Go to Adams thread and follow the steps there.
2. Root it after.
3. I can then flash a ROM
is this correct?
Edit: Just ran casual, worked like a charm after a few minor issues, thanks for all the help!
