[Q] Touchwiz's Calendar Widget - anything similar? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Since I only recently jumped on TSF Launcher, I've found that I've already gotten used to the great looking 5x5 calendar widget that came with Touchwiz. Much to my chagrin, it's only available when using Touchwiz.
Most of the calendar widgets in the market are either list type widgets, or not sized correctly to be displayed on this giant screen.
Has anyone come across a calendar widget that they like for the Note?

Jorte Calendar has a 5x5 monthly calendar widget. It's popular although i think it's a bit on the ugly side in terms of looks...but with time I think a lot of customization is possible.

You're right about the ugliness - not even close to Samsung's widget.

Deslandes has one called PURE Grid. I use PURE Messenger a lot and the functionality is always fantastic and it looks great. The biggest issue is if you're using Exchange. It'll work fine with Google, but it can't read your Exchange calendar on a Samsung device yet.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.koxx.pure_grid_calendar&hl=en

I personally love Jorte and don't find it ugly at all with some tweaks. A big requirement for me is that the widget has to be very functional. By making the widget completely transparent and using Google calendar colors, looks sweet to me!
Also, using the month+task view, I get all the information I need at once. The widget also adjusts to landscape view effectively.

It says it works with Touchdown, so shouldn't that be fine for Exchange?

Android Pro Widgets ?

Puregrid works great I have mine set at 5 by 5xxl-tablet. I mainly use just the week view but here's both. Puregrid is very customizable and a decent selection of skins, I'm rocking the ICS skin.

[Q] Calendar widget

So i just upgraded from the original g1 to the samsung vibrant, and im missing the calendar widget from the g1. I couldn't find a widget that does the same as the g1 calendar widget. By this i mean it showed a rectangle that had my upcoming events from my gmail calendar on it. Could someone tell me of an app that does the same and/or does it better?
Thanks
Have you tried smooth calendar? That looks & works great!
i find that calendar pad is the best one, it sows the full month view and lists all upcoming birthdays and allows you a large variation of widget sizes
+1 for smooth calender

I know what you mean I miss the old calender widget too. But smooth is the best so far I have tried them all.
I was a blackberry user, and I found that Pure Calendar Widget looked the best to me. Reminds me of the old "Today" themes for Blackberry lol.

Calendar widget

Hi.
Does anybody know of a good calendar widget? I've tried some and most require you to use their calendar application. I personally prefer the calender app that comes stock with the vibrant and would like a widget that pulled info from there but looks more like the stock widget on vanilla android.

Im running "android agenda widget". It does exactly what i need and lets me view multiple calendars. Ita free btw

"Pure Calendar Widget" is one of the few paid apps that I have used the entire time since buying them when I had my G1 until now.
Extremely customizable and will allow you to use pretty much any calendar app.
Thanks guys, I'm downloading both right now.
I highly recommend Pure Calendar Widget as well.. excellent application and worth the $

So I bought pure calander widget, as well as messenger widget, very very nice. Granted theres a ton of options, too much to get into right now but so far so good. Nice way to spend the little bit of funds in my account. and the HTC sense skins are a nice touch.
*accidental doublepost, sorry.
The one that comes with launcher pro plus is pretty good. But if you don't use LP I guess its not too helpful.
using agenda widget
started using pure calendar widget today.
3 questions:
-i see someone mentioned you can make it htc sense like? i dont see how???
-when i rotate screen, the widget goes blank for about 2 minutes...not like a little lag and re-draw with takes seconds. it goes completely white for about 1 or 2 minutes, then it all comes back. any ideas?
edit, 1 more question:
-what is the difference between pure calendar widget and agenda widget? pros or cons of each?

You have the option to skin the app. At the bottom in the config screen theres the option to Continue and Skin. Thats where I found mine.
Also which launcher are you using? ADW has an option to enable and disable scrollable widgets, which might be the cause of your problem.
I recently discovered Jorte, which has a good amount of widgets and the calendar app itself is excellent and will fully replace the stock one (my preference) - but I'm pretty sure you can have it open the stock one. It can also sync with Google Tasks although it has to be done manually.
cool, thanks.
in LP, it enabled scrollable widgets and that has seem to fix the going blank problem.
but i think im going to try the agenda widget as pure calendar widget just slows my phone WAY down. It just slows everything down. maybe if i turn off scrollable in pure calendar and lp it will work better...

[Q] Social Networking Widget alternative ?

I have a love hate thing going on with Blur, even the remnants we see in Gingerbread, and have found that the only reason for my continuing to use it is down to the Social Networking widget.
This makes me sound like some kinda facebook and Twitter junkie which I am not really but I do find it handy not to have any notifications and to check out those social sites as and when I want to. The fact I can get the information on one application is handy as well rather than have to log into both apps individually.
So my question....is there a all in one, well facebook and Twitter anyway, widget that does a similar job to the Social Networking widget in Blur ?
Have looked through the Market and nothing leaps out at me.
I used to use Colorized Widget
the only gripe with that is 1) it doesn't work with Launcher Pro
2) I believe to get twitter and fb on one widget you have to get the paid app?
Another is Pure Messenger Widget it's a paid app again.. but it does both
Last, is Launcher Pro Plus. it's launcher alternative.. which has those functions built in. again it's a paid app

yeah LP already comes with widgets. i dont use launcher pro, i would if it were as smooth and had as much options as ADW EX. colerized widgets is nice though, there are another set called ADP widgets i think
Pure Messenger is awesome but its not battery friendly.
Android Pro Widgets and if you use GO Launcher there is an add on for it.

Many thanks for the suggestions.
Seems as though Blur did come up with one good idea for me at least !
I have tried CM7 and other de-blurred ROM's but that little widget is so handy.

It's alright.. the theme of it isn't that appealing to me imo but its functions were great.

calendar widget

Anybody else upset that it doesn't come with one ? Any suggestions for alternatives?
Really depends on what info you want to see but I use Simple Calendar myself.

I used Simple Calendar in the past. But now I use the Today widget that comes with the phone.
I'm a big fan of the Pure Calendar, it's a pay for app.
i really like the LauncherPro calendar widget...
I like the business calendar widget, can take up a full page on the home screen if you want it to

I went and installed the TouchWiz 4.5 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883 and it works flawlessly. It has the Calendar widget as well as some really cool features not found in TW4. I highly recommend this for someone wanting a near stock TW experience with some really functional tweaks.

+1 for the business calendar widget, or there is also android agenda widget, which is pretty customizable, and will also scroll if the launcher you are using supports that....
If you just want a list of upcoming appointments, Agenda Widget is awesome. Very customizable, though it takes some work to get it just the way you want. In just a 4x1 space on my screen I can see my next 4 appointments, with little bullets next to them telling me which calendar they are from.

Eh? Am I missing some detail about this question? My device has 2 calendar widgets pre-installed: Agenda and Today. Agenda takes up most of a home screen and scrolls to display lots of calendar appts; Today just shows the current/next appt for the current day.
is there really no month view calendar widget for tw launcher that links up with google calendar?
i have tried go launcher ex and the calendar widget on that is perfect, but i want to run tw launcher instead.
i dont want to add agenda or today widget because i want a month view. any suggestions?

This is a list of bloatware removed from the Cognition ROM:
http://ponack.net/designgears/Cognition777/removed/
The TwCalendarAppWidget.apk listed there has a month view. I believe it's from the Euro SGS2 version of Touchwi but not sure. Anyway, replace the corresponding app on your phone with the one from the link. Worked for me on UnNamed 1.3.1.
Attachment so you can see what it looks like. Not bad.
thanks!
do you know which folder it goes in?
is is possible to theme?
/system/app
same one as your current TwCalendarAppWidget.apk should be in. It should be possible to theme using all the normal tools, apk manager etc.
EDIT: OK, now you got me curious. I was able to decompile, edit some XML and recompile without problems, so yes, I'd say it definitely is possible to theme it. FWIW, I changed the first day of the week to Sun (normally Mon.). I might do a full flashable mod with different themes and what not. But it will take me at least a week b/c I am busy with stuff. No promises!
EDIT 2: Oh, never mind, my changes were superficial. All I did was change the day of the week label, not the display of the widget. Still a good project. Not sure at this point if it is above my head...
EDIT 3: Ok, now this is just getting embarrassing. Using the apk I linked to, all you have to do it go into the Touchwiz Calendar app, go to preferences, and set your First day of the week preference. Widget should reflect this change, otherwise, delete and re-add widget and it should be there!
I SWORE I tried this before and it didn't work.

Pure Grid Calendar is absolutely gorgeous. I have a month view on my lock screen and a week view 4x4 on one of my homescreens.
It pulls from multiple google calendars and displays duration bars corresponding to your events.
Simply stunning. Hands-down one of my best app purchases.

Agenda like apps

The Planner Pro app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appxy.planner looks like a good substitute but the layout rendering seems buggy on the landscape layout of the Gemini.
I've yet to try it but for a long time on Android devices I have used Tiny Calendar
I've not had an major problems with it and my father gets on with it as well on his android mobile so I shall try it when I get mine. Hopefully it will work well enough

Nice layout for calendar views. But Psion Agenda also allowed incorporation of To Do items.
For ToDo things I tend to use Google Keep now. With the benefit of it synchronising across all my devices with that account connected.
Thanks for the recommendation of Tiny Calendar. This is the best app I've seen for replicating the two-week custom view I use for Google Calendar on the web, and the widgets aren't bad either. It took me a while to find the customisation options (you have to force rotate to portrait using the Gemini App Bar) but now it's set up to my liking it's great.
I stopped using to-do lists years ago when I switched from EPOC to iOS and couldn't find a way to integrate them into calendar apps in the way Psion Agenda did. I generally use all-day calendar entries instead, so Tiny Calendar fits my use pattern perfectly. Anyone with similar needs might like to check out Calendar Widget which among other options gives a very nice semi-transparent agenda list on the home screen that makes very efficient use of screen real estate.
I have high hopes for the official Gemini Agenda clone when it finally sees the light of day. One of the joys of Psion Agenda, aside from its fantastic integration of calendar and to-do functionality, was that absolutely everything could be done without using the touchscreen. Android on the Gemini makes touch functions much more responsive than the old resistive hardware and stylus, but I'd sooner have the keyboard shortcuts back.
If Gemini Agenda can replicate that behaviour I'll be overjoyed. Those early screenshots certainly looked promising.
I can also recommend Jorte. It has a great Daily and Weekly layout including To Dos. Works well in the landscape layout.
This is probably the best Agenda substitute. It's the aCalender+ and even has an annual calendar view:
