Nice to see New Features/Function, but I wonder what (if any) fixes are included?

Awesome. Hopefully we'll have a stock rooted ROM pretty quickly.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium

Looking forward to it. Need to fix stuttered scrolling and improve browser (freeze issue).

I really hope that's not all

Nothing too exciting. Hopefully the major bugs will be fixed.

Hm, not *too* hyped about this, only useful features for me are the battery stats (finally !!! ) and the HDMI thing (depends on how well it works)
I still wonder what's this surprise Gary talked about...

Battery stats are great

I want control my HDMI output. Why only 60Hz(60FPS)?

According to the OP, Asus' facebook page contains only New features and New Functions. Perhaps the Bug fixed list will be release soon.
Keep the faith !

Only things of interest to me...
+ Support Ad hoc mode (Ad hoc mode was supported in HC but 1st time support in ICS)
+ Enable power profile (Battery information setting)
and even then, this is not all that exciting

Yeah browsers freezes very oftenly. Also Mozilla Firefox has the worst browser, those default Font are terrible, why can't they use normal font as for PC.

Wow, so they just skip from .15 to .19? Back in my day, they would do stuff like 9.4.2.321.234556.9345 to 9.4.2.321.234556.9345.5.
Sent from my tablet thing with XDA Premium.

Agreed. It would be my primary browser (I use the **** out of Firefox Sync between several computers) if it weren't for that awful font.

Which is lacking the German Umlaute too, so text is pretty messed up anyway. Unusable.

But was anyone expecting breakthrough features? I'd think features are pretty much as they are now and would only expect bugfixes and performance improvements with these (minor) updates...

I think/hope it would include 3.x kernel finally.

"JP" 9.4.2.17 was just posted on asus's TW ftp site
Faster downloads here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429873

Any update to add new features or fix bugs is good Was definitely hoping to see something amazing like dual boot ubuntu and android though Oh wells
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app

I think the greates update is fully unlocked device (decrypted bootloader), and working NVFlash
All other things we (XDADevs) can do (Castoms RuleZZZ)

[Dec 27] Ubuntu for HTC HD2 - v0.3 released

Ubuntu for the HTC HD2 version 0.3
This is the new v0.3 release of Ubuntu for the HTC HD2 I announced a while ago on twitter.
Ubuntu is a full Linux distribution - and it's not designed for smartphones. But with the large touchscreen, high display resolution and fast system speed of the HTC HD2 I decided to make Ubuntu easily available to HD2 end users!
This is not a secret warez ROM proprietary junk. Source code information below ! Wiki use for contribution purposes is highly encouraged! You can find all information needed to reconstruct my builds there.
The interest seems large enough so you can expect an improved version 0.4 :
-The no-menu problem will be solved
-It will be bootable via cotulla's MAGLDR and HaRET (Handhelds Revers Engineering Tool)
beta closed!! please do not in quire any longer.
=> I am looking for people to test a 0.4 beta version soon as I'm done. If you are interested please direct message or @ me via twitter @htc_linux as I will send the beta download link there.
Features
* You can get online using 3G and WiFi
* Attach all kinds of USB devices like mice, keyboards, flash drives, card readers, networking devbices, etc. to turn your HD2 into a full PC
* Use full desktop like web browser without the usual limitations found in smartphone browsers
* Use instant messaging
* Watch videos
* Handle text messages and make calls (without sound so far)
* Install thousands of programs for your internet experience, office needs, social networking fun, etc.
* Be cooler because you have something special on your phone!
It is difficult to create a release like this as opposed to all the Android builds for the HD2.
Technical background to this:
The Linux kernel we ported to the HD2 is originally designed for use with Android user space (because we based our work on the Linux kernels of official Android devices) and Ubuntu is originally designed for large laptop or desktop computers.
This means many workarounds on kernel and user space level must be made in order to make this usable.
Despite lots of work not all problems could be tackled yet: Audio and suspend/resume do not work as of v0.3 and it is a bit tricky to navigate.

md5sum hd2-ubuntu_0.3.zip aa7ad65d247594e95bb7abe2e7aa7688
You can run an Md5sum program on your download. If you get the above hash you have a 100% trusted release.

INSTALL
######
1)Extract the linux folder to the main directory(!) of your Storage Card.
If the linux folder is not located in the main directory of the Card,
it will not work.
Note: This will not touch your phone's internal memory. WinMo or other Linux/Android builds remain unchanged.
QUICKSTART
#########
1) Save all your current work and start the HaRET exectuable to boot Linux.
2) Watch the system boot up fully until you see a graphical desktop interface.
3) It is useful to set the CPU speed up for better performance. Tap the CPU speed meter in the mid of top bar.
4) Use shutdown icon in the home menu to bring the system down savely.
Enjoy!
TUTORIAL VIDEO

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES
##################
Please read the attached and included readme.txt for detailed information.
Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick basis
-optimized for our hd2 CPU
-large performance improvement
-up to date app versions
-new graphical interface
Better connectivity
-3 modes to interact via USB selectable
-file transfer and interactive shell via ADB and USB ETHERNET (ssh)
-USB HOST mode to connect thousands of peripheral devices like keyboards, mice, usb mass storage devices.
Improved drivers
-Backlight control
-Battery charging and state reading
IMPORTANT NOTES
##############
-There is a known problem with the menu not appearing so you will only see a single icon on a normal desktop instead of the fancy menu seen above. You can fix it as explained below.
-There is still no audio in calls and generally due to lack fo ALSA driver for hd2.
-The hardware keys don't work
-No screen rotation added
-The battery % can only be read via shortcut. Icon will always show low state
Please do not report these problems.
In case you are affected by the no-menu problem here is a quick fix:
Add the 'main menu' in the top panel in order to start apps:
-Tap and hold a free spot in the top panel for like 3 secs (note that the area between the left and middle icons is not free s1pace but the window picker) and release the cursor. This is supposed to simulate right click. It is a big tricky..
-A drop down menu should appear
-Select add to panel
-Drag the 'main menu' item to the panel
-You can now start programs and edit settings.
a)In settings menu select session settings and make 'Ubuntu netbook 2d' session default settings menu. Only drawback is you can't add programs to the panel in it.
b)Go to 'startup applications' and try raising the delay in seconds for nbl (netbook-launcher-efl) to start.
Let me know if you get the workaround going in case you were affected

[ROM] SuperOSR NexusOne base [email protected] v2.4.0 (Gingerbread 2.3.7)

This is a thread for the Nexus One SuperOSR ROM. This ROM is descended from the SuperAOSP ROM. It does not appear SuperAOSP will be further developed, the last version was v8.6. That xdaforums thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966635
I value the "Super" line of ROMs because they have been rock stable, have built in Apps2SD, many CM additions, and good battery life.
The primary forum for this ROM is a Spanish one, called movilzona.es. Anything posted here from that forum has been run through google translate, with mixed results. If a native speaker would like to help correct some of these translations, great!
I do not have any say or input into the development of this ROM. I obtained permission of the ROM cook (nelo360), who makes the Nexus One version, to post information about it here. He has explicitly stated he cannot provide any support other than on the original Spanish forum. Of course, the forum community will try to help each other out. I will try to update new releases here.
All credit of course goes to nelo360 and the rest of the development team, [email protected]
The original thread on movilzona.es is here:
http://www.movilzona.es/foro/superosr-nexusone-base-superte-gingerbread-t5882.html
The following is directly from their forum, translated poorly:
Message Super @ Take it and accepted by the group SuperTed @ m.
Disclaimer:
NOT going to give any support to this ROM from any forum other than this one (movilzona.es), this is it is very common for people to hang it in another forum and then have to be looking where it hung in addition to the main forum and I can not respond to external requests of this kind, because I can not be everywhere.
It's funny to talk over the ROM from elsewhere, since the main from which it hung, plus you have to think that this would not be possible if there were forums like this, from which terminals to lend me all enjoy ROMS varied. For questions, NO is posted in HTCMANIA because this forum was banned for posting ROMS here.
For any questions of why this resolution, since many people keep asking me from twitter, because I hang on HTCMANIA ROMS can see the explanation here:

Install Notes
SuperOSR for Nexus One AntiWipe
- Clarification and instructions
Once you start, leave the phone 3 to 5 minutes at rest so it can configure itself on first boot. The LED will shine blue through this period. Once it turns off, you can start using the phone.
IMPORTANT App2SD will not turn on without restarting the phone at least once.
Can be activated from: SupSetup/Options/App2SD and LinuxSwap/Activate App2SD
If you want to install extra apps from SupSetup is important to do before you set google account, this way, when we install any application market will be downloaded automatically apps we select the SupSetup.
If you have problems after installing, before blaming the ROM, try to install it with full wipe.

<I don't know what that last sentence is supposed to mean>
I recommend you skip google account login the very first time you install. Configure the ROM first, turn on apps2sd if you wish (it will auto-reboot), then do your google login. Otherwise, it will start auto-downloading all your apps from market, and generally make a huge mess.

Some things I've noticed with v1, coming from a complete wipe.
Market is the older 2.3.6 version
Gmail is an older version which FCs on me. Updating to the new version works fine.
Maps is an older version.
Apparently there is a problem with notifications, from user nodnarb:
Notifications are given as normal, but when you pull down the notifications bar to select any of the notifications it doesn't acknowledge the tap.

Great. Any screenshoots?
Already customized my ROM after installing, so graphically it's not particularly impressive.
Basically the ROM runs ADWLauncher, so not so much to show more than that.
I'll post some shots from the settings pages.
Also, some screenshots available here from the older version. Graphically, not much has changed.
http://www.movilzona.es/foro/superaosp-para-nexus-one-por-superatmel-tolemac-t4675.html
Go to post #3. Except it will be in English =)
Been running the new version since last night. So far it's not bad. I did like the old launcher better then ADW but what do ya do....Battery life seems great so far. So far my notifications seem to work ok. Not any significant changes but maybe the subtle ones will show up with use. Too bad the only support is on a Spanish only site. I suppose we can all support it here as well to an extent....
I have been running this rom since yesterday and so far no issues at all! No notification issues or Gmail FC's here. am glad that you have created a thread there. I too am a big fan of Super line of roms. Thanks for your effort.

I'm glad for the thread too.
Are here any special requirements that I missed - for example, A2SD (mentioned on movilzone thread) usually entails an ext4.. could this be why my installation never worked out? It's just a hunch (I don't have an ext4).
I did have fc of gmail too - do i simply go ahead and update it from market then? I never got to test gtalk. Market is not the newer version which I suppose one can live with.
I flashed it for my wife's phone but as it never gave me any joy, i reverted to SuperAosp 8.6 which works 100%.

If you use Google Chrome as your browser, it does a fantastic job of instant auto translating the site. I speak Spanish and can attest to its acceptable accuracy. Chrome also helped me with the Chinese on the original MIUI site.

For a2sd, you can have an ext3 or ext4 partition. Mine is ext3. Any other specific problems?
Right now, I'm not seeing a big difference between 8.6 AOSP and 1.0 OSR, except for some graphical changes (the pop-up boxes look different, the thumbscroll graphic is dark instead of gray).
Actually one thing I have noticed is that my bluetooth autoconnect is not working the way it should. Before it worked okay just by changing one line in the audio.conf file in etc/bluetooth/ (set autoconnect=on). Currently experimenting.
Don't seem much difference in this ROM compared to Superaosp
i have been having some issues tho, wifi no longer works, won't connect to any networks
battery life is half that of superaosp. will try a reflash and see what happens.
I too have had zero issues. All is well here.
No partitioning of my SD card since I don't used A2SD. Just one fat32 partition.
No problems with any notifications, gmail or market.
Battery life is also very good. I'm averaging 24hrs with moderate usage with SetCPU having one state to throttle speeds down to 128-384 when screen is off.
Anyone having any issues with bluetooth connections?
I restored some bluetooth pairings with TB. Maybe should have left it alone and started anew.
Been messing with the etc/bluetooth/audio.conf file with no improvements.
Good rom. It's working well
No issues so far and my battery life is quite a bit better! I did have to manually connect Bluetooth tonight to my car but I find that happens quite often the first time I flash a new ROM...I'll monitor and see if that continues.
Figured out my bluetooth issue.
Previous, I could swear just by changing (turning on) the autoconnect=on parameter in audio.conf, I could forgo repairing/relearning my bluetooth pairings.
So I changed it after the wipe/flash, and couldn't get it to automatically pair. In fact, couldn't get it to connect at all for any duration.
After putzing around with all the other parameters, I realized I should have just changed back the original thing I had altered ("#autoconnect=on"), and it works fine now.
So, the take home lesson is, don't mess with the etc/bluetooth/audio.conf file that comes preloaded! And just re-pair whatever BT items you had previously.

I too have been less impressed. Battery life I feel is either about the same or worse. (yesterday I got down to 30% by the evening, which is unheard of for SuperASOP).
The other things that have sucked has been a random reboot into recovery (WTF?!), and GPS is slower to lock.
And then to top it all off, this morning the phone was off sitting in my desktop cradle (but 100% charged, LOL). I could live with that because my T-Bolt woke me up, but usually its the other way around in that my N1 is the Old Faithful that I can rely upon for alarm, tethering, etc.
Signal reception is also notably poorer compared to 8.4. Has anyone else noticed this?
I will give it one more day, but I may wipe everything and go back to 8.4, which had the best combo of battery life, signal, and stability for me.
Thanks for your commentary. Even as the OP here, I haven't seen major advances since 8.4 (wonk fix). And I never actually had the wonk! Did you try 8.6 and go back to 8.4? If so, why?
Though, I have not had any wifi issues, or random reboots, or slow GPS locking.
I did notice that sometime in between 8.2, maybe in 8.4, my wifi signal dropped a few bars in my living room, which isn't that far from the router. I had heard there was there some adoption of new wifi driver code?
I'm trusting you did a clean wipe flash? I think some have said that it flashes fine over 8.6, but probably not recommended.
no have Chinese , Unfortunately.
China has a lot of people , interest in the ROM.
But , they can not use this ROM .
Because they English is so so so bad ,Including me .

[DISCUSSION] Touchpad OTA Updates

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/30/hp-touchpad-will-receive-ota-udpate-for-added-functionality/
HP may have abandoned the TouchPad, but that apparently won't stop the company from issuing a post-mortem OTA update for its webOS tablet. Yesterday, an HP spokesperson confirmed to CNET that "HP TouchPad owners can look forward to an over-the-air update that will enhance the platform and add functionality and a growing applications catalog." The rep didn't offer any specifics, but reaffirmed that HP remains "fully committed to the ongoing support and service of customers who purchased webOS devices." The news comes on the heels of a Quickoffice HD update that dropped yesterday, and at a time when TouchPads are selling like hotcakes -- which probably explains HP's decision to issue a tweak. Indeed, the company went on to say that it's seen "huge spikes in activations and between 3-5X downloads of apps," since the TouchPad fire sale first launched.

[Q] New Touchpad OTA update safe?
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-20099049-64/hp-update-to-boost-touchpad-functionality/
Doesn't say exactly when this update will be available. Is it safe to assume that we shouldn't accept the update, if given the option, if we're planning on eventually flashing Android port?
Good question.
I was also wondering if the folks who actually wanted to stay with web os, will the homebrew patches and kernel have to be re-written to work on the updated firmware?
Given that it just says "a future update" with not even a vague indication of *when* that might be, I don't think it's something that we should fret over for now

it depends how drastic the changes are.. i have a feeling the update won't be anything major...
This isn't iOS. The updates don't ever do anything in theory to close down the OS, other than required security hole fixes. Anything you could do prior to the update, you can do after. The webOS doctor is what is probably going to become hijacked for allowing Android installations, and this in theory, will never stop working. Remember, we have always been able to recover a "bricked" device through the webOS Doctor; unlike the many other platforms available. Also, it has been close to 2 years since we had to remove all patches prior to updating. I'd suggest waiting 24 hours, if you can, to verify. Patches and homebrew should not be broken in the update.
One thing they should fix is the browser. Upgrade their libraries up to the level Honeycomb 3.2 or iOS 5 (all of which is open source) to improve the performance (especially JavaScript) and support more HTML5 standards (like SVG). They should also allow users to modify their user agent string to the iPad UA via a hack, so all tablet-oriented websites display as they are meant to.
Although the Touchpad browser is not horrible, it could do a lot better compared to the Android and iOS browsers which are based on WebKit as well. Having an awesome browser could give this tablet much more life while just running webOS with web apps!

I feel this brower is just as good if not better than the android browser. I had issues with some links and pages on my android tablet but they work perfect on my touchpad

i imagine the update will bring things like a native ebook reader or an updated marketplace, nothing radical like a fully skinned version of honeycomb
I too hope for some improvements to the browser, there are a few issues with it, nothing tragic but irritating enough at times.
OTA Update = Android Honeycomb?
Maybe????
It could happen.
(I'm such a troll today)
maybe we will get more than a ota, maybe actual support for webos.
http://www.bgr.com/2011/08/30/hp-may-resurrect-touchpad-head-of-pc-business-says/
Basic first.
Sound loss and Wifi problems.
Now if we want to go Fancy.
Rotation while playing phone apps is always portrait.
Youtube full screen is up side down (if using a case)
speed up calendar.
speed up photo "fine" loading.
browser minor issues.
Cursor issues.
Do not accept. If they are designing the Android for 3.0.2 then leave it. It's only a matter of a Week before an Alpha is available from Cyanogen.
Android, that way they can collect the $1600. Hell, they have to make back the stock money they lost somehow
I'm thinking the OTA will just be Homebrew/Preware kind of stuff and maybe some new apps.
However, a tabbed browser and a VNC client that works would make me really happy.
Don't Know why people knock the browser. I feel that the WebOS browser is honestly the best mobile browser I have EVER used functionality wise... Never before on a tablet or tablet-like device have I not had to fiddle with user-agent settings and such to get where I need to go... So far only one site has failed on the Touchpad... Hulu, And we all know why that doesn't work...
Other Note: I would laugh if the OTA was just to pre-install preware and homebrew ability... (although it would be a BIG smack in the face of apple, Who leaves their old products to rot instead of supporting them like HP has so far.)
Then again, I find WebOS in general to be the best Mobile OS ever made, And also the best Mobile OS killed before its time...

The caching issues make browsing forums a nightmare.
Also, Gmail doesn't work in the browser.

I have to agree that functionally, it's an excellent browser. It's just that internally (performance en compatibility with technologies) it's not quite as great as Safari in iOS 4 or the Honeycomb browser. Check this link to see what I mean.
The reason why it's important is that by the end of the year all webOS support for native apps will have definitely dried up, which means that webOS users will have to rely on web apps. Web apps can be freaking amazing if the browser supports the latest technology and has good JavaScript performance. Although the Touchpad is not bad there, it should be doable for HP to update its performance and compatibility to the level of iOS 5.

[App] Looking for Beta Testers for 9GAG+

Update,
the app is nearly finished and currently in public beta. You may find it here: http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=e4a9c785-efde-4794-8663-d562724e4fbd
Hey,
I'm looking for beta testers for yet another 9GAG client for Windows Phone (8+). I know there are already plenty of clients available but none of them satisfy my demanding Actually there's only one client by Rudy Huyn (Market Link) which is quite good but keeps crashing since the last few updates. In addition it's somehow slow - I don't like that. So, I came up with another one
The app is not finished yet and still under development.
What's working?
viewing posts
viewing comments
downloading images, saving theme into the media library
sharing posts
pan and zoom (up to 25x)
rendering of extra large images (greater than 4000x4000)
What's not working (yet)?
videos
gif animations (ironically I included the gif section already )
uploading images
posting comments
all items on the start screen (screenshot 2, bookmarks working since 1.0.0.2)
up/down-voting comments/images
What's missing
license information and credits (guys who made the wallpaper, screenshot 1-6)
search
you tell me
Known bugs (so far)
double tapping a downscaled images which aspect ratio is nearly the same as the device's screen, sometimes doesn't initiate a zoom (like screenshot 11)
when there are too many replies to a comment, the client will not fetch all of them correctly
still some concurrency problems resulting in an app crash
you tell me
I attached some screenshots of the app. If you'd like to help me, just send me a PM with your LIVE e-mail address (the one you are using for the market). At the moment I'm looking for up to 10-15 testers.
I wish I could pay you for your efforts but I can't However, I will offer each beta tester a refund for the in-app purchase to remove ads (~1.5$).
During beta stage there won't be ads and if so, all in-app purchases are free during the app is published within the beta market. There won't be a "stand alone" paid version of this app.
I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
Yeah, Rudy Huyn app is good, but crashing (mostly on devices with 512MB RAM).
9gag app for devices with less RAM would be good. Lookin forward.

can you add the option to directly hum to the first post of a list, e.g. when I click trending? so far, it looks really good

I just submitted an update to the market. Bookmarks are working for now Still no settings

I'm busy right now , can't try the "bookmark" error you described in pm, but I was thinking if you can add "resume last position" for the sections...(like the other app), bye :good:
Bookmarks work fine so far, only removing them from bookmarks is only temporary (reloading the list gets all bookmarks again)

Are you sure on that? Coz actually it isn't possible. The list maps directly to a database. When you remove an item from the list, it's removed from the database automatically. I also cannot reproduce what you are saying. Is anybody else experiencing the same?
edit.
I just pushed another tiny update to the store
1.0.0.3
- submitting crash reports should work now
- added (basic) settings. choose which channel shall be displayed on the hub page and whether to start browsing channels in fullscreen or in "quick browsing mode"
- localization: en, de

the home is better with icons before "bookmark, settings ecc"
Maybe it's normal but when you navigate through the two pages of channels sometimes it makes some lag, but not everytime.
Are you interested about italian translation?

I will definitely think about this feature. At the moment I don't have clue how to implement it without breaking user experience.
The problem is quite simple. The collection of items displayed in a list are fully virtualized. That means items are both loaded and rendered on demand - starting with the most recent post in a channel. It's more or less simple to initialize a channel from a specified point (last position the user left) but at that time I don't know anything about the ancestor items (posts). In the end the list, which is shown to you, will start at the last position you left and you won't be able slide left to view newer posts. The only solution which currently comes to my mind is to load a channel from the beginning and skipping all items until I reach the one you viewed last time. Of course I can do this but it's a damn waste of resources (CPU, memory and traffic).
As said, I will think about this one. But not now

Well, it shouldn't be normal
Just to make sure I get your point. You're talking about the list view and fullscreen view of a channel? The lag occures when you switch between those two views?
An Italian translation would be great but at the moment I need to finish the app first. Afterwards I could provide you with a list of strings
Starting to test it tommorow
ok tried a lot and no more lag , never! I think there was some bloatware running on the phone.

As I told you in the Email, great app.
Here are some ideas to make the app better:
1. For the channels icon you can take the latest picture from tha cahnnel (you can make it refresh every time the app starts or sth. like that)
2. Resume from the last picture you saw in the channel. That means when I'm watching a channel and than go back to the menu and watch other channel and wann go back to the previous channel so that I musn't start watching from the latest picture but there will be a pop up window or sth like that so I will be able to choose if I want resume or start new session.
3. When I tap on the picture there is always some free space under tha picture (see in the attachments "screen 1.png"). It looks really crappy so you should remove it.
That's all till now I will tell you when I found sth.
Greetz
