[Q] Apple Headphones to work on Note?? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Is there any software fix or CWM fix available to get my iPhone headphone's mic to work on my GNote??

I use iPhone compatible headphones with Note (and Nexuses before that). Mic and play/answer button work without any modifications. Volume buttons do not work and I never saw a patch for that. Would be nice, given that headphones that came with Note now have volume controls.

What note do you have.... The att note did not come with headphones
And the Iphone earphone mic doesn't work
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA

I've Seen people go back and forth on this issue and some say mic works and some say it doesn't. I don't know if its just my note and all the at&t stores I have been to but the mic on the IPhone headphones doesn't work with the note, neither did my skull candy 50/50's or the FIX's mics but all of them the buttons worked for play/pause, skip track but not volume. I went to an AT&T store and tried the Urbeats that are made for HTC phones it was displayed with the vivid and everything worked including Volume +/-, track skip, mic. So Really if you want something a little better than samsung oem headphone id go with the beats but if the price ($100) is off-putting just buy some samsung headphones they all should work for samsung weird phones. As a side note I really think that the accessory companies should push for all these phone manufacturers to adopt a standard 3.5mm jack it shouldn't be that hard.

This works for my Note
Just want to add to this old thread. I very rarely use headphones to answer my phones and don't really listen to alot of music. I am not very technically proficient so thought that if it had a jack that fit, they would work. WRONG! I found out my 50/50's were made for apple products and they won't work for my android phones. I was pretty disgusted about this cause I just bought 2 more pair on sale for $20.
Then I went on a research binge to see what will make them work with my Note i717. Found out they work with my Gnex pretty well- voice and mic, no buttons. But whatever I did, they were not reliable on my Note. I bought several adapters. The trrs adapter tail from BHphoto online- says it will switch the poles- ???- that makes me crazy to understand the 4 poles and wires and where they go. Tried the meelec. Both of these adapters did not work. Meelec said it wouldn't.
What did work was this- http://www.ebay.com/itm/390523085685?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
It's a right angle adapter- just a little plug-3.5mm Female to 3.5mm Male TRRS (4 Pole) Right Angle Gold Stereo Adapter- The mic works for calls, skype, etc, but you can't use the buttons to answer. The volume buttons don't work, but the headphones work great. This is the best fix and the adapter was only $6 shipped. So I went from a non working headset to a working one for sound, mic, and will look into apps to get the buttons to work. It would be great to get the mic button to work to answer and hang up.
On my galaxy nexus 9520 the 50/50's work without an adapter and the button answers the phone. Volumes buttons don't work either.

Does anyone uses Apple In-Ear Headphones for HD??

Anyone uses it for HD...?
Is it suitable????
I doubt you would get the mic working
there is no std how one do 3.5mm minijacks in relation
to having more then 3 rings
ground
left
right
how and where one add the mic or more is up to the maker of the headset and or phone
Iphone earphones should work but they're rubish so I wouldn't bother if I were you. Just get some Sennheiser MM50s if you want earphones with a mic.

Yes it works. I had a cheapo 3rd party one I got off ebay for my iPhone. Then I sold off my iPhone ( good riddance ), and still had the cheapo earphones lying around. So when I got my Touch HD, I compared the bundled earphones with the iPhone earphones, and noticed the rings were identically spaced. So i plugged it into my HD, and voila ! it works !
So while answering this post, I decided to try if the button on the earphone's mic works. Happily, it works. Single press answers a call, another press while a call is in progress puts it on hold, and a double click ends the call.
The cheapo iPhone earphone's quality sucks, but its perfectly adequate for taking phone calls.
Sometimes I use them for music if im on the go, since they have no mic, u have to talk into the mic of the phone, it's ok if u have to...
BUT I wouldn't recommend apple in-ear-headphones they suck, cuz they don't stay in place
bought one from creative for iphone.
fits weeell, just as soneric/walkman i get used to before. sound normal, mic, button functional.
bought two pieces just in case.
I tried to use BB Bold's headset and it worked great
It worked for making and receiving calls, and listening music
honestly i use cx300
changing to px100/200 i think they are better.
i used the Meizu m6 headphons too, they were good
I've got the apple in-ear earphones and the mic/middle button don't work. Any ideas?
i have tried apple earphone many times coz i got spare one and it works for accepting call, hangup call and everything as similary as htc original ones.
and i have orderd one of sennheisers mp50(something like this there is one for iphone typically designed for iphone by sennhieser) earphone let me see how it works it should be on the way.....

Disconnecting problem with Sennheiser mm30i and Klipsch s4i

Hello
I wonder has anyone experieced this problem below?
I have a pair of Sennheiser mm30i and also pair of Klipsch s4i, both with inline mic and button control. What happen is, when there is an incoming call and when I use the control button to accept the call, the headphones (both of them) disconnect. I have to unpluy and re-plug the headphones. But if I slide the screen to accept the call OR using auto answer fuction, everything is just fine i.e. they don't disconnect and I can alo use the button to end the call. I have use both of the headphones on my S2 and they are fine also.
The above doesn't happen with the stock headphones.
My S3 is stock and I have messed around with any files.
Please could somebody kindly provide some suggestions.
Thanks
Ron
Well, for the S4i Klipsch, I currently owe the basic S4 and encountered no problems, but the S4i are designed to be iPhone compatible.
Another version of the S4 does exist for Android. So it might be that even if it used to work on your old S2.
The same goes for you other headset, once more Apple compatible but no instruction for Android device.
Maybe the differences between S2 and S3's hardware make your headphone unable to take a call.
But it's good point for me, I planned to buy a new headset with mic So by helping you out, I'm saving myself from buying the wonrg one.

Thank you for thre reply.
It is strange that the central button works for volume adjustment, next trrack etc using the Headset button control app and Jays apps.
There are differencies betweek controlling the music player and the dialer
But as the stock headset works well, the jack port seems to be good and none faulty.
Anyway for 80$ the headset, they could make them to be iOS/Android compatible at least ...
not sure about ios , they seem to be in their little own world
In their little revolutionized world, i'd say

Wired headsets that work with LGOG - shop carefully & share

Just discovered that my Bose MIE2i headset microphone doesn't work with LGOG.
Works with Nokia WinPhone, and Samsung buds work with LGOG (but not well).
The Bose MIE2 works.
In-store testing shows Bowers & Wilkins products won't.
Share what you find about various wired headsets.
Since the LGOG ships without one, and LG doesn't seem to offer any,
it's something most folks will be looking for I suspect.

When using the earbuds that come with the iPhone 4 (which I used with one of the iPod shuffles and an iPhone 4S with no problems) on the LGOG, the volume doesn't work at all. The play/pause button is funky. I was listening to a podcast using the Onecast app on my LGOG, hit the play/pause button on my iPhone 4 earbuds, and it started playing a different podcast. When I try to pause that podcast, it then goes back to the podcast I was listening to before. So yeah...totally unusable.
Controls aside, the iPhone 4 earbuds are compatible with the LGOG.

except that the mic doesnt work either.
Yeah the Apple earpods mic doesn't work. Also, volume controls on Apple headphones won't work an any android device. It needs hardware support that I'm guessing Apple has patented. I think the issue is with the audio jack because if I push the earpods down enough before the click in the mic works. I bet the contact point inside the jack are smaller or misplaced so some headphone will work, while others won't.
I was just given the skullcandy titans with mic, and they work with the phone.
One tap answers the phone, and the mic works correctly.
The media control also works. One button tap will play/pause, 2 taps next track, and 3 taps previous track.
I thought I'd let everyone know that the ZAGG Audio ZR-Six Earbuds with Mic Black/Silver work with the LGOG. I just received them today and confirmed the Mic works. The headphones have great sound too! Needless to say I'm very happy to have headphones with a Mic that work.

My Ultimate Ears ear buds with mic work just fine. Haven't tried my Klipsch ear buds yet with this phone.
Sent from my badass LG Optimus G
I'm using MEE M6P's but I can't go to the previous track. Forward and Play/Pause works fine though. Mic works also.
JAYS
Anyone know if the AJAYS four's work on the Optimus G?
I know that the AJAYS one+ work but I am trying to find a set that has volume up and down as well as the action button.

iPhone headphones/mic with Lumia 920

I got 3 headphones with mic for my old iPhone, 1 of them (mic and 1 button only) works on the lumia 920.
The other 2 with 3 buttons - sound works.
volume buttons don't work and I don't care for that.
problem is, the mic doesn't work.
I did a lot of testing, I found that if I disconnect and reconnect it 2-3 times during a call (and only during a call) the mic will work for about 20 seconds and stop working.
During these 20 seconds I can end the call and start a new one, use voice control, or continue my current call. shaking the cable doesn't make it stop working. It will work for 20 seconds and stop for no reason.
Seems to me like a software issue, but I am not sure.
Anyone here knows if one of the converters/adaptors would make it work?
I mean FiiO (LU1 or LU2), or ADPTR-TRRS-35 (google it, sorry cannot post links).
Since the 920 suppose to support both configurations of TRRS (AHJ and OMTP) I assumed it would support these headsets.
My non-working headsets:
1. yurbuds inspire pro
2. Audio-Technica ATH-CP500i
If you know of any other adaptor that might work please let me know.
Headphones made for the iPhone will not be fully compatible. You need to make sure you use headphones made for either Windows Phone devices or Android Phones. It's not a software bug. Apple moves the mic band on the headphone jack so that they will only work with an iPhones.
Apple does this so that consumers are required to buy headphones that are licensed by Apple and that they can only use those said headphones with iDevices.
EDIT: Using a converter should work. Although I recommend just buying non apple branded headphones w/ mic or a bluetooth headset.
thanks for your yhkughts but i dlnt think so

@djbrx thanks but I don't think this is true. The Nokia Lumia 920 supports both AHJ and OMTP ( MIC on last ring or on one before).
but still - the MIC does not work on a 3 button head set. On a one button headset it works.
reason I was thinking it is a software issue was that if I quickly pull it out and back in while in a call the MIC will start working perfectly until I finish my call. But I have to do that for each and every call.
its not a problem in my device I tried it on 3 Lumia 920 all behaved the same.
I'm thinking the MIC transmits on different frequency or something lika that? I have no idea exactly what is going on but it seems like software issue since I can get it to work sometimes.
any other thoughts?
There is no standard for headphones with mic. The way the extra ring on the plug works varies along with the button which often sends pulses to the device, it is how the pulses are interpreted that varies.
You need one designed for the phone you are using. iPhone headphones are awful, although the latest version seems to look better but I've not heard them.

Yes, there is:
Search for OMTP in Wikipedia (can't post links)
There are actually 2 standards for headset with mic. AHJ and OMTP. thing is, apple is apple - never follow standards...
There is no standard for headset with mic and volume buttons - and that's where things stop working. as far as I tested, iPhone one button headsets works great on the lumia 920 (I tested 2, both works). the ones with 3 buttons don't - I tested 3.
As for their quality - don't know when was the last time you tried, but they have far superior headsets on the market than windows phone or any other phone. yurbuds are awesome, audio-technical, senns - are both amazing.
Granted - I can't stand "beats", their awful but ppl seem to like them not sure why.
The stock headphones I got with my iPhone 4 were much better than the stock that came with my Nokia... this is why I am so frustrated.
Well, guess there is nothing I can do.
I now have 2 very high quality headsets that I have no use for, I guess it's time to sell them.
Thanks for everyone's help!

so true, but this is how it is everywhere
Even HTML have many different interpretations, even HTML5 which suppose to be one common standard doesn't work the same on all browsers.
The world would be a better place with just open source / standard and without these manipulative corporations.
BOSE QC?
Hi
Anyone know if the BOSE C®15/QC®2 mobile communications kit works with the Lumia 920? I mean both mic and headphones of course.
Morgan
Possible fix.
I have a set of Bang & Olufsen EarSet 3i which has 3 buttons
and is made for the iPhone so the mic dosent work for my Galaxy s3.
However if i hold down the Volume button while pluggin it in it registeres the right way and the mic works.
I dont know if it works but have a go and report back
i'am also considering going for the Lumia 920 so this would be great info
Well, these one works for all (i tried on iphone, androids, wp7.5, wp8)
1. Audio Technica AT335i : http://www.audio-technica.com.hk/index.php?op=productdetails&pid=398&lang=eng
2. Nokia Purity WH920: http://www.puritybymonster.com/en/#page_in-ear
Personally, I prefer no.1 due to I can use my own earphones and it has VOLUME CONTROL SLIDER. Nice.
As for no.2, it's monster, and it's too boomy for me. Wifey loves it though so I gave to her. Got it for free as bonus when I bought the 710
Out of all of my headphones (Shure SE102, Shure SE210, Klipsch S4i, BeyerDynamics DT250, Beats Solo HD, and Nokia Purity WH930), the only ones that work 100% properly are my Nokia Purity. However, I have successfully used the cable from the Nokias with my Beats and vice versa, so I'm tempted to get a coupler so I can at least use my Shures as they are earplugs.

[info] Pixel and Pixel XL wired headset compatibility

Hey XDA'ers,
When it comes to buying headsets, iPhones owners have about a million compatible headset's while android users have to always play the guessing game not knowing what works, not fun at all. This thread is here to help. I made a thread like this for the Nexus 6P that I felt was helpful and I thought Pixel and Pixel XL users could use the same info.
this is where this list goes to bed every night
so everyone report so we can get a nice big list, commenting with the following info can be helpful:
1. [IMPORTANT] The name of the headset and a link to the exact model you bought
2. Do both volume buttons and a Microphone work?
3. Headset sound quality? 1 (bad) or 5 (Perfect) You can elaborate if you'd like.
4. Anything else? .... or just tell me your proud of me unlike my mother and father jk, I'm awesome.
*You can include bluetooth headsets to give feedback but those won't be on the list. Bluetooth headsets never really have issues since bluetooth an open standard.

Here's a few I tested to add to your list:
Xiaomi Piston v2
Yes. Tested with Poweramp, Google Assistant, and Phone. Volume up/down and play/pause/disconnect call/Google Assistant work from the 3 buttons.
Purely subjective, but 3.75.
Oddly enough, the v2 doesn't work right on last year's Nexus 5x, but works fine on the Pixel.
Xiaomi Piston v3
Yes. Tested with Poweramp, Google Assistant, and Phone. Volume up/down and play/pause/disconnect call/Google Assistant work from the 3 buttons.
Purely subjective, but 4.
The v3s work equally well on the Pixel and the 5x, and are much lighter weight than the v2s.
HTC One (m7) earbuds
Yes. Tested with Poweramp, Google Assistant, and Phone. Play/pause/disconnect call/Google Assistant work from the single button.
Purely subjective, but 3.5.
Not the greatest earbuds, but they came with my m7, and sound decent enough. Works fine with the Pixel.
I use the galaxy s7 earbuds and they work fine with volume control and play pause answer call and hang up call.
Dont go hating but Apple Earpods are good... 4 on audio scale but Volume buttons dont work.

Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 for Android
Yes. Tested with Google Play and Skype. Volume and pause, skip etc plus in line works on skype
I guess 4 - as good as it ever is
Slightly louder in right ear but this might be imagination...
1. Degauss Labs Sabotage Royale 3 Button Headset
2. NO. Volume up launches Google Assitant. Volume down and middle button work fine.
3. Sound quality is very good I think: 4
1. Nocs NS500 Android 3 Button Headset
2. Yes. Volume up/down and middle button all work fine.
3. Sound quality is very good I think: 4
1. Samsung HS330 (aka OEM for Galaxy S4, S5, etc)
2. Yes. Volume up/down work. Mic works, mic button short press to mute or answer; long press to end call.
3. Sound quality = 3 to 3.5. I am not an audiophile but imo they are better than some regular earbuds.

Amazon Premium Headphones
Can't post links yet.
All buttons work except volume up brings up Google Assistant
Decent for the price, frustrated they don't fully work as it took me a long time to find a pair that worked with my Nexus 5X (these did). I can't wear in ear buds so choices are very limited...
a-jays 5
the a-jays 5 work great, i got them for $30 CAD on black friday but they are worth more!
All the buttons work (vol-up and down, middle is play/pause and long press activates google assistant)
there is also an app that allows customization of the buttons
1. Klipsch X6i In-Ear Headphones
2. Volume buttons do nothing, but mic works fine and center button answers/ends calls and plays/pauses/FF tracks - long press brings up Google Assistant
3. Quailty - 4. Very clean reference sound but lots of cord noise is transmitted when walking or moving. Needs a bit more volume (voltage drive) to register the same db as other headsets. Mic works well for calls on the street, but does pick up some wind noise.
4. Klipsch has patented oval silicone ear sleeves that fit well and comfortably.
1. Logitech Ultimate Ears 600vi Noise-Isolating Headset
2. Volume buttons do nothing, but mic works fine and center button answers/ends calls and plays/pauses/FF tracks - long press brings up Google Assistant
3. Quailty - 5. I love these things. I've never owned a double or triple armature IEM so maybe I just don't know what I'm missing, but these guys have sounded great over the past 4 years. Mic is only good for indoor conversations. Picks up alot of wind and ambient noise
4. Cord could be much better, mine has separated from the plug due to stress and will need to be replaced, but the ear buds are going strong. The retail packaging includes two sets of Comply foam tips for awesome fit and feel
Just tried these with my Google Pixel 1....
1. 1MORE E1003 Piston Classic In-Ear Headphones
2. NO. Volume down not working at all. All other buttons working fine.
3. <unable to comment on sound quality, they'll be going straight back>
Desperate to find some new headphones for my Pixel 1. Its proving rather difficult to find a set that actually work. Google really cocked up the headphone jack on the Pixel 1. Suppose its a non-issue on their latest phone though since it has no jack.

Does volume down really work on these? I'd have expected the circuitry to be the same as the Piston Classics I've just tried. HOWEVER that post is from Nov 2016 so it's quite likely the one's I have are a updated version.

I'm still here
Although I recently upgraded to the Pixel 2. I tested the Triple Drivers like once with the 3.5mm to USB C adapter, and remember them to be working well, with full button controls.
Have you experienced no VOL-Down on other headphones? Honestly my first guess would be that you just got a lemon with a broken button. If Vol-up is working, it would be extremely strange for Vol-down to be broken by design. I'm Pretty sure the OMTP vs CTIA has more to do with the microphone working than buttons, but it might be worth checking out as well.
I will say the Triple drivers are champs, can take a beating, and sound spectacular. Still going strong today, although I have moved to 3rd party replacement buds. I could not find first party replacements.
https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/9/15590932/1more-triple-driver-quad-driver-review-in-ear-headphones The updated version would be the "quad driver." Vlad mentions both in the review. He's also a fan of the Pixel, so I bet he'd mention if there's any issues. Although I didn't reread before posting this.

Its a completely different playing field if you use the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter rather than plugging into the headphone jack. This is the first time I've ever had VOL-DOWN only issues. I immediately had the same suspicions as you, i.e. fault button, but I tried them with an iPhone and the button worked fine. The button also works fine if I use the headphones on my Pixel 1 via the USB-C to 3.5mm adpater (that came with my wifes Pixel 2).
