[Q] Thunderbolt Security Warning - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the security warning error on my Thunderbolt. I need the files to fix it, maybe the instructions too if they changed from the post by jcase.
Here's what I have.
*** Security Warning ***
MECHA XD SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.05.0000
MICROP-/
RADIO-1.48.00.0906W_1
eMMC-boot
The rest is unknown.
Edit* I unlocked the bootloader, and I can now get into clockwork.
My new problem is that now I am not getting past the splash screen.

Okay. I have fixed the problem. Here's what I did.
1. I unlocked the bootloader via the official method at htcdev.com.
That removed the security warning and allowed me to access recovery. However, I had flashed clockworkmod recovery and nothing I did with any version of clockwork or Amon Ra would allow me to boot up past the HTC splash screen.
2. I erased the recovery partition and restored the original recovery via fastboot.
3. I rebooted into the stock recovery. It did something and rebooted, but still not past the splash screen.
4. Back to fastboot. I used fastboot commands to boot clockworkmod recovery without installing it. I then used clockwork to restore my original nandroid backup, and reboot.
Still not booting past the splash screen, but I did gain ADB access.
5. I decided that had everything back to stock, I would try revolutionary again. It actually worked this time. When it finished, I had S-off and a custom clockwork-mod recovery. With S-off, I was able to flash a rom of my choosing after wiping data and both caches.
That is all it took to go from an expensive paperweight to a fully functioning Thunderbolt.

[Q] Found phone stuck at recovery

A friend found a Droid Eris on the side of the road. It would only boot to HBOOT. I am trying to fix the phone.
When I started working on it the bootloader was 1.47.0000 S-ON
I followed this Q and A thread to flash 1.29.2000 S-OFF
I can not get it to boot Amon's recovery. It freezes at the three skateboarding androids. It always boot to fastboot even if I have other buttons held down.
I have tried fastboot erase, flash, and boot.
I know how to use adb and fastboot.
In summary I have never been able to get the phone to boot fully but was able to flash the root rom with S-OFF. Now I need help booting to recovery.
Thanks in advance
This post has both a version of Amon_RA Recovery that can work with a broken trackball, plus instructions on how to flash with fastboot with the S-OFF bootloader (see scenario 4 toward the bottom): http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html

[HOW-TO] HTC thunder-brick to Fully Functioning Thunderbolt

So, I bricked my thunderbolt. RUUs did not even help.
Here is what I did:
1. I unlocked the bootloader via the official method at htcdev.com.
That removed the security warning and allowed me to access recovery. However, I had flashed clockworkmod recovery and nothing I did with any version of clockwork or Amon Ra would allow me to boot up past the HTC splash screen.
2. I erased the recovery partition and restored the original recovery, from the nandroid backup I had made, via fastboot.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
3. I rebooted into the stock recovery. It did something and rebooted, but still not past the splash screen.
4. Back to fastboot. I used fastboot commands to boot clockworkmod recovery without installing it. I then used clockwork to restore my original nandroid backup, and reboot.
Code:
fastboot boot clockwork.img
Still not booting past the splash screen, but I did gain ADB access.
5. I decided that since I had everything back to stock, I would try revolutionary again. I used the instructions from their website. It actually worked this time, unlike before. When it finished, I had S-off and a custom clockwork-mod recovery.
With S-off, I was able to flash a rom of my choosing after wiping data and both caches.
That is all it took to go from an expensive paperweight to a fully functioning Thunderbolt. This process may work for other HTC devices also.
I hope I have helped you.

[Q] Need help: Provider ICS update bricking my phone

Hi,
I've been searching through posts for help. But I might have run into a combination of bad luck and noobness, and I can't perform any suggested recovery procedure that I've found smoothly. If you think my problem can be solve by another answered post please link.
My phone was rooted (from the HTCDev tool) and sim unlocked. This morning I started the Update pushed from HTC (that should be the ICS update???). The update last more than 40 minutes (I wasn't watching) and stuck on the HTC boot screen. I thought it's problem hanged, unplugged the battery (maybe I noobed out here? shouldn've waited 4 hours? or do a hard reset instead?).
Anyway, from that point onward it's hang on boot.
I boot it up the the hboot menu. Go to recovery, tried wiping the cache, tried the factory reset. No luck.
Here is what I have on HBOOT
*** UNLOCKED ***
SHOOTER_U PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT_1.49.0008
eMMC-boot
Jul 15 2011, 14:39:25
When I tried to run the "update from SD card" in the recovery mode I always get the
E:can't open /cache/recovery/command
no matter what I've put in the SD card
When I try to use 4EXTRecovery, it always says error: device not found
I also tried to use revolutionary to turn S-OFF but it always stuck on waiting for device
the fastboot command line from HTC Dev however, can talk to the phone slightly...
fastboot devices
HT17WV302432 fastboot
fastboot oem unlock
...
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.142s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...
(bootloader) unlock token check successfully
OKAY [ 0.007s]
finished. total time: 0.150s
But the phone doesn't turn to the unlock agreement page, phone remains S-ON.
I don't have CWM installed on my phone yet. And I don't know how to get it onto my phone with market place. Putting update.zip in SD card doesn't seem to trigger the phone in any way.
At this point, I think I should?
S-OFF my phone?
See if I can use fastboot to flash any workable ROM / boot / Recovery onto the phone?
Any help would be great.
Thanks a lot.
Gil
If I remember correctly to update to the official OTA you need to put the stock recovery back on your phone and re-lock it.
I don't really care whether it is official OTA or not. I just want to get my phone back to work. Do you have any link to where I can get the OTA and how to do it?
Does it require turning S-OFF? I'm under the impression it is blocking me to do anything. And because my phone is already in a bad state a lot of the tools is not communicating with the phone right now...
No luck with the OTA. I was able to get CWM onto recovery through fastboot, and also tried flashing King Cobra. But the phone still won't be with King Cobra, I'm still on S-ON. Revolutionary still won't connect.
u dont need s-off with 4ext recovery
I had an unlocked EVO3D (htcdev method) and the problem you had happened to me too. The phone stuck at the initial splashscreen and iI had to pull the battery off.
To have my phone back it was enough to use 4ext to restore a saved backup I had
done previously.
If you dont have backups then installing KingCobra (1.5, I have issues with 1.6) should be enough to solve. Copy the rom to the sdcard and then install it via 4EXT.
If you want to go S-OFF i recommend to use the wire-trick method
unlimited.io/juopunutbear-public-beta-0-1/instructions
It's tricky indeed but works very well.

How do you get 4EXT onto the phone? Is there anyway to flash it to recovery? Or do you already have it flashed before? I was trying to find a 4EXT recovery flash but no luck.
I tried using CWM flashed to the recovery and installed King Cobra, it installed but still doesn't boot up. I also tried flashing boot.img onto boot (by using fastboot) but the phone still doesn't boot up. The firmware (PG86IMG.zip) wouldn't flash tho, so maybe I need either S-OFF or 4EXT to do that.
Thanks.

4Ext was already flashed. However what you did should be ok. Are you sure that the boot.img that you flashed is the correct one for the ROM that you installed?
The boot.img on the KingCobra main page belongs to the 1.6 version.
You can extract the correct one for the 1.5 version from the ROM zip file.
The path in the zip file is Custom/Kernels/Stock/boot.img
I used the 1.5 version with the original radio without problems.
Fixed this by:
1) Getting the official RUU on ICS.
2) Connect USB in HBOOT
3) Use fastboot to relock the bootloader
4) Run RUU on Windows and successfully flashed everything
So seems like S-ON pluse unlocked bootloader means no no to both official rom and custom rom.

Help. Phone is Stuck

I'm trying to help my friend get his Amaze up and running again. When he gave it to me it would not boot past the bootloader. You could get into recovery but were unable to flash anything as it said there was an error mounting the internal sd.
I read through some threads here and attempted to reinstall recovery, which didn't go so well. Now I am unable to get into recovery, which means i have no adb now , unable to flash the ruu through the hboot. It will load the ruu but will just reboot to the bootloader again.
Hboot - 1.93.0002
S-on
CID - Telus001
He told me that he had tried to flash the new faux kernel, after which he was in the spot he's in. He has already replaced with an S3, but would like to get this phone up and running to sell and recoup some of his upgrade costs, plus get pictures off the Amaze (if that's at all possible)
Update: got it working, had to flash the non touch cwm, 4ext twrp and touch cwm all would not work. Afterwhich i was able to flash a rom, then flashed a kernel through fastboot. Downside is the internal was blank upon booting back....but it at least works again.

Stuck "Entering Recovery..." After Flashing RUU, Unlocking, flashing TWRP

Hello,
I am having trouble returning my M8 back to stock. I am following this guide: http://www.droidviews.com/restore-att-htc-one-m8-stock-firmware/
I was able to flash RUU_M8_UL_K44_SENSE60_ATT_SECURITY_Cingular_US_1.58.502.1_Radio_1.16.21331931.LA11G_20.31A.4145.02L_release_368350_signed_2.exe without any issues, and then proceeded to unlock the bootloader successfully as well.
My issue is getting into TWRP after flashing. I issue the commands:
Code:
adb fastboot reboot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.0-1-m8.img
And it says that the write is successful, but when I go back to HBOOT to boot into recovery, It gets stuck with the "htc" logo and a pink text "Entering Recovery..." at the top of the screen. If I do an
Code:
adb devices
, it shows my phone and status "recovery".
I'm thinking that the recovery flash isn't sticking or maybe I have the wrong version (I believe I flashed the latest). Or maybe its entirely something else but I'm starting to run out of options. I've also tried rebooting into the bootloader after flashing recovery and just doing "fastboot reboot" and then trying to go back into recovery from a powered-off state but I still get stuck.
Here is my current fastboot Info:
Code:
***UNLOCKED***
M8_UL_CA PVT SHIP S-OFF
CID-CWS__001 ;;I recently flashed this from Super CID

Thank you in advance for your help.

The RUU you used is far too old to work with the TWRP version 3.0.0.0. Mixing old/new hboot, OS versions with new recovery versions is usually a bad idea.
The fact the guide you are using is from 2014 (!) is doing you no favors. That RUU is 3 Android versions obsolete. Relock the bootloader, than run the (current latest) 4.28.502 RUU as linked in my Index thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
What is your intent in returning to stock? That guide is far too complicated for most purposes, aside from returning to HTC for warranty (for which, most M8 devices no longer have valid warranty).
For most purposes, relocking the bootloader and RUU is good enough.
@redpoint73
Thanks for replying. I was able to successfully go back to stock for the most part. I wanted to do a factory reset to see if it would fix my camera issue (auto-focus was broken and constantly re-focusing). Anyway, it didn't immediately help, but somewhere along the lines the camera fixed itself. Thanks again!
