[Q] Battery issue - ICS Omega v5.1 ROM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i've encountered some issue with battery since I installed this ROM.
I had some freeze and when I rebooted the phone the battery level dropped down of 20-30%...Also during the charge the behaviour was not "normal".. I can post some screenshot to made my explaination "visible".
The first time I had this problem, I reflashed the rom after a full wipe (data and cache) and after i hadn't performed the backup but installed the apps one by one from the store..that not solved the problem. I uninstalled set CPU, I also changed the battery...same freeze and same problem...Any advice?
Thank you!

Try another rom .
jje

Go back to GB until ICS gets rid of bugs.

I`m using same rom but never had issue with battery. I suggest you to use phone until battery will be 0%, use until phone will shut down itself. Leave it off and charge battery for 7 hours. Turn it on and find on market battery calibration, calibrate the battery. Also you can try to change kernel. Good luck

Thank you all. I'll try to calibrate the battery (i think that it is clear that is not a battery problem) before changing kernel and then ROM.

Of course...asap i will try and i let you know.
Thank you.

strange that because im getting better battery life than i did from stock gb although i have frozen all samsung apps through titanium im amazed really. It probably takes a couple of charges to sort the battery on a new rom.

Well...I've performed the cleaning of the kernel..and installed a new kernel. No matter which kernel: the battery behaviour is the same. 30 minutes ago screenshot.
I'm going mad

Have you tried another battery, doing full wipes or reflashing rom

I tried with another battery.
I did a full wipe.
I refleshed the rom after the full wipe.
The only thing to do is change the rom.
For the moment I unistalled some apps (Set CPU was already uninstalled..now I deleted Rom Toolbox)

I agree. I myself am using Omega Ice Cream Sandwich 10.4 still

At the moment the problem is gone...propably it was due to the apps setCPU and Rom Toolbox..both set the CPU.
I continue to check the behaviour..the battery life is about 14 hours...maybe it is possible to set the phone to do better..more battery life...

[Q] Going bonkers over battery lvl 0%

Hi!
Also I got problem with battery lvl being constant 0%.
I unlocked the unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone at v2.3.3.
then some moth later I finally tried to flash my phone.
I installed CM7.2 FXP052 but when I started the phone I didnt have any gsm signal so I flashed baseband from 0.42. The signal came back so I thought I was clear to go. I unplugged the phone and it died. Battery stays at 0% all the time.
Ive tried:
* 0.42
* 0.62
* 0.42 with inteks kernel
Found something that fixed the battery but it is a kinda ugly solution because (if I understand this right) it simulates the battery drain. So my phone can die I'ven if it displays 30% left.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332399
1) So what am I doing wrong?
2) Why does the battery die after update?
3) How the hell can I get it back? :S
Oh, I have also tried "wipe battery stats"
This battery problem was occuring if you downgraded from any higher version such as 2.3.4 or greater to 2.3.3 if i am correct.. cm7 is based on 2.3.7 so i think thats the problem.

Cm7 flashing don't give this problem.
Battery 0% problem occurs when you downgrading to 2.3.2
Did you tried flash back to stock?
2.3.3, 2.3.4?
With flashtool?
If you rooted your phone, did you used 2.3.2 firmware...?
Sent via MIUI 2.1.13
I've unlocked the bootloader when the phone were on 2.3.2.
I've tried these things (in following order):
1) Used fastboot to get CM7.2 + Flashed Baseband from 0.42 with flashtool. This made my battery stay at 0% constant.
2) Flashed the workaround to have a working phone for the week:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332399
3) Weekend again so I can play around.
Flashed 0.62 with flashtool
4) Flashed 0.42 with flashtool
5) Flashed 0.42 with flashtool and added Inteks Kernel
So the only thing working for me now is the battery workaround. :S
And thank you all for taking the time trying to help!

Nope, you are not right my firend.
I've started on the firmware 2.3.2 (battery was ok).
Then I flashed CM7.2 (battery went to 0%)
I've then tried to flash 2.3.4 firmware but the problem still exists. (0%)
So I used this workaround (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332399) to fix the battery problem.
The problem is now that I use this workaround to be able to even use my phone. And I want the phone to work without it! I want the real gauge in my phone to show not some simulated value from an app.
Clear as mud?

Many times indeed.
I've read the workaround and according to them this could be an hardware error. Thou In my case I think its not cause I had a working battery at 2.3.2, before flashing cm7.
Maybe I damaged something while flashing.
I will try CM9 today and see if I have the same problem there.

Same problem there. Shoot.
Are there some kinda of tool who can reset everything back to the begining and hopefully repair the problem?
Flashing dosent seem to do anything. :S
It's a hardware failure, the fuel gauge has died and no software can fix this, the only option besides a warranty repair is the workaround which reports a fake battery percentage.
I can't get the Neo fixed under warranty, it will cost me $330 which is nearly how much I paid for the phone. I cannot figure out the workaround because I am unable to unlock the bootloader. It is all too confusing for me and I am just disappointed that there is nothing I can do.

I had a working phone until I flashed it. :/
Why can you not unlock the bootloader?

Xperia X10 keeps restarting

My xperia x10i which is runnning on the android 2.3.3. Keeps on restarting continously for around 10 times then it can fully function. I've even tried flashing it many times but the same issue still happens, so I believe it's very likely to be a hardware problem. Also If I use the mobile internet it restarts automatically, but If I use internet through wifi then the phone fully works and doesnt restart. I'm wondering what the problem is on this phone?

Yes I have even reflashed it but it still restarts
Man I have the EXACTLY same problem.
It´s really annoying issue, I have the same opinion as you, maybe it´s hardware problem. I guess this is related to heating.
Is your country in a hot season? hehe
so are you running on stock se firmware? maybe it has some kind of bug, try flashing another kernel, check in the development section to see how...
Just to further clarify, did you format /data and /cache before installing the 2.3.3 ROM ? Because this is a reported issue when migrating from one android version to another without clearing the data.

Useless post. Try to be nice to a coleague that is having a problem.
Another info I forget to mention, I´m not using any overclock, this problem happens either with custom or stock kernels. So I guess this is not kernel related.
a new kernel or updating android OS will clean ur phone
I think it mainly has to do with the improper discharge of the battery. Try changing the battery. Many people say it solved their problems.

Same problem here. Sometimes just out of the blue but mostly when downloading via 3G. I never had a spontaneous reboot while using WiFi.
This started after installing stock firmware 2.3.3
Have tried a couple of things now:
- Reinstall stock firmware 2.3.3
- Unlock bootloader and load custom firmware (DooMKernel v6). Tried the full OC version, medium OC version and currently run the fail safe version
- Install custom rom (FeraLab) which is Android 2.3.7
Damn thing still keeps rebooting. And I still have a year left on my current plan...

Oh ryt, I noticed this issue when I flashed it on android 2.3 and would keep on restarting like 15 times. So I downgraded the firmware to 2.1 and it just restarts on if mobile internet is used. I have sent my phone to a recycle company, they will pay £91. Hopefully if they don't find this minor fault. Anyway I'm getting the samsung galaxy S - I9000 as a replacement. Samsung phones never restart lol.
Come on guys, anyone please?
This is a very annoying problem. I did a research on google and it seems to be a known hardware bug.

[Q] Problem with Rom

hi everybody.
i'm not new in this forum but i onl now registered so i cant post in the android development section ( or so the site says)
i have a Samsung Galaxy S II ( GT-i9100)
i was using a CM10 based Paranoid android Rom for a long time and it was great.
a few days ago i wanted to use a new ROM - [ROM 4.1.2 - 4.2] JellyBam - 20121115 [AOKP.CM10.PARANOID] [AROMA] [SPACESTYLE]
i did exactly what the instructions said :
Put Rom zip in internal SD
wipe data + cache + Dalvik
install rom - using siyah Kernel 5.0.1
after the install the Rom lodas fine and seems to work great but after the first time i need to restart the phone it get stuck in the boot animation
i tried doing another Cache + Dalvik wipe after the install but it still happens
when i was searching the Rom's Forum , no one seemed to had the same problem, and that is why i am posting this here.
if any one can help i will be grateful.
thanks in advance
shlomo
p.s.
for now i went back to a Nand backup of my old rom...
hi there.
i manged to fix the first problem by flashing the rom with a different kernel - Dorimanx...
but now i have a different problem
everytime that i turn the phone on i get the messege "upgrading android"
and there are times that the phone turnes off for no reason (mainly when i get incoming calls)
and after that when i turn it back on again the battary is almost dead - today it happened when i had 70% and when i turned in back on the battary went down to 4%!!!
what can i do???
1.Wipe data/factory reset
2.Format /system
3.Flash the ROM (choose whatever Kernel in aroma)
4.Wipe cache
5.Wipe dalvik
6.Restart
Try that.
edit: oh and if the battery problem persists, calibrate your battery (there are plently of guides out there i'm sure you can find)
Thankx for the help, ill try that (again). Just a few questions.
Do you recommend a specific kernel (if j usr siyah i seem to get a bootloop)
What guide do you recommend to calibrate the battary, there are allot of them out there that i dont kbow which to use
Thanks again.

u can use Dorimanx v7.22 kernel ma8
also battery callibration apps will not aid u in any way on ur SGS2, since it comes with seperate Fuel gauge chip
u can use the 'Stweaks' app that comes with the Dorimanx kernel and do a 'Reset Fuel gauge chip' in it to have a better reading with ur battery

You can reset the fuel gauge chip, and if it doesnt work you can try the following: charge the battery to 100%, leave it on the charger. Go to recovery, wipe battery stats under advanced. Reboot, unplug from charger.
Hope it helps.
Edit: I think I read somewhere that its recommended to leave the battery to fully discharge after wiping bat stats (let the phone turn itself off) and then recharge again.

bot not more then that... the paranoid android settings are all wonky there and i still get many bootloops - even you can work around them by turning on and off...
going to try P.A.C Rom
any advice would be appreciated
Edit: well, tried P. A. C Rom, worked well to start with. But then again it started a bootloop for no reason... For now went back to a nand backup of jellybam from 16/11 that seems to be the most stable. Why does this keep happening???

CM10 Problems

Hey guys,
I've just instelled cm10 a few days ago,
and it's making me crazy, hope you can help!
Most of the time it works great. BUT when I
play some games or use Facebook, it just
Shuts-down the phone, and when I turn it on
it says it got 1-5% Battery left. (it's not true)
When I plug the charger, the battery level
get's back to where it was.
I've tried updating to CM10.1 and the problem
presists.
so,
1. What's cousing those shutdowns?
2. How can I fix the battery problem after the shutdown?
Thanks!
You installed it with a full wipe?

Have you checked to see if this also happens with non-CM roms?
The first thing you should be doing is counting out a hardware problem so install a non-CM rom like a Samsung stock or based rom.
Also do a clean install or your roms to avoid issues. (Wipe data/factory reset in recovery, ONLY USE IF YOU HAVE A CUSTOM KERNEL/RECOVERY FLASHED).

There was no Problems at all on 2.3 stock,
So I don't believe it's an hardware issue.
factory reset from the OS is the same as

calibration might help. Hardly hardware issue.

Hey, I've tried battery cal. again - it didn't help.
The main issue though is the random shutdowns not the battery stat.
It mainly happens with the Facebook app, Is it a known bug in CM10 ?
Just an update: I've flashed 2 other Stock based roms and the problem is worse Now!
It shuts down like 10 times a day now, on every screen even on Lockscreen sometimes.
The phone was 100% good before I flashed cm10! Did i do something wrong ???
What do you think's wrong with it?
Help! Please?
Does the screen flicker issues on cm 10.1 effect the phone in long term..Wil it damage the screen ?

ok folks got a problem here and i have searched and searched and tried and tried with no luck i have an at&t unlocked note i717 i have rooted it using the method stated here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586223 i have installed a wide vairety of custom roms as wellas recoveries the phone constently reboots i have pulled the phone apart and cleaned the power button flashed different kernels etc no matter what i do it still reboots all the time. also the battery will have a full charge and once it autoreboots the battery shows it has being dead now the phone sticks in a boot loop i am by no means new to the android game i have even built my own rom many moons ago for the SGS II but this has me stumped any help and i would be greatful
P.S. the only way it does not give me these issues is to treat it as a brick and restore to stock gingerbread
How old is the actual battery? Is it bulging at all? Might want to try a fresh battery. The battery with a full charge but is dead after reboot is a sign of bad battery.

Sounds like you have done your reading, but I have to ask, how clean are you?
Personally, I wipe 3 times
Flash rom 2 times
Gapps 1 time
Wipe davlik and cache
Wait 10
Reboot again and do your thing

That is a given i have learned from past experience that wiping just once sometimes just is not good enough. strangely enough i returned the phone to stock unrooted. from there i install hybrid rom and did not have any issues the battery said it was a full charge the phone stayed on did not reboot untill today this afternoon i went and logged into facebook and the second it logged in bang there was the reboot. before that i made calls and went tot he play store etc etc with no hiccups this is really got me stumped
Wiping data and cache is not always good enough. You should also format your system partition. If not you will have system files from the previous ROM on your phone even though you do a full wipe.
Your issue may be with the way you are rooting your phone. Install your factory ROM using odin. Then use odin to flash CWM or TWRP recovery. Then flash a superuser version using recovery. The tutorial you spoke of mentioned kernels and you may be flashing a kernel for gingerbread on a JB ROM. This would definitely mess your phone up. Stay away from the kernels mentioned in this thread as the info is ANCIENT. After rooting (actually you don't even need to install superuser to flash a custom ROM) install your custom ROM. And only flash kernels recommended for that particular ROM.
Agoatamers words are always solid. I myself dont like to flash alternate kernals as they often seem to invite more maintainence. If it doesnt work with kernal built with, then I dont use.

I have been in this game for a while now and i have flashed more androids than i can count this phone is not the first note that I have flashed but it is the only one that i have seen this issue with as far as flashing kernels i did not use the kernels in that post untill i had returned to stock with GB then i used them the way you mentioned above is the way this phones was flashed several times I have tried many different roms without flashing kernels and then as last result tried a few defferent kernels as well to see if the kernel was an issue as i have had issues with kernels in the past on the SGS2 doing this with crappy kernels, although they were an easy fix flashing siyah pretty much fixed that issue. here is an update on the phone situation. i have been running hbrid rom for almost 24 hours with no reboot (fingers crossed, knock on wood ) the only thing i have done different I did switch batteries due to being out and my primary batt died and used my back up so i do believe it very well may have been the battery, the battery is not bulging as of yet but that does not mean anything as the battery could still be bad so we will see again fingers crossed i will kep this updated for at least 48 hours as long as there is no more problems i will mark this as solved via the battery replacement
