Do I need a new battery? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

for the past couple days ive had charging issues. ill go to charge my phone at night my battery will be at 40% or whatever it is. I plug it in for like 5 minutes and it says its 100% charged, obviously its not. Also when I wake up and unplug my phone it says its 100% charged, itll stay at 100 for like an hour and a half then all the sudden itll drop to like 85%. Is there anything I can do? Do I just need a new battery?

Wipe Battery Stats with Clockwork Issue

Well i woke up this monring, phone had been on all night charging, said 100%. Went into recovery and wiped battery stats, powered off, pulled the battery, re-installed battery, left it powered off to fully charge, well that was 4 hrs ago and this phone is still charging. Did i mess something up wiping the stats, never had an issue on my g1 or n1.
Thanks for the help.
yeah something is up with the battery i think or the counter for it or something... my phone always says its at 100% and as soon as I unplug it it drops down to 97 percent instantly. then I have to plug it back in for a little till it charges to about 98 percent then it'll jump to being full and yeah unplug and back down to 97 or 98
Yea i know what you mean...my friends does the same thing. But mine finally did reach 100% after 6 hrs of charging. Made it to 4217mv.
From what i have noticed, that is normal. My phone does it too, but after i pay more attention to it, I think it's the build in protection from over charging the battery. if I unplug the phone right after it's fully charged, it'll say 100%. If keep it plugged in, it'll still say 100% until I unplug it. Sometimes it'll say 99% or 98% depending on how long i left it plugged after it's fully charged. Once it gets down to ~97%, it'll start charging the phone back up to 100%. So, from my own observation of two vibrant phones, if you keep your phone plugged in over night, it'll stop charging once it hits 100% and starts charging when it goes down to ~97%.
im having a "similar" issue, I wiped battery a little bit ago and my battery icon stil says 100%, however I turned on GPS and have Avatar playing, and it is STILL at 100%, not sure if its just a really good battery or if something is wrong...
How do I get into the Advanced section to get the wipe battery option? I go to Rom Manager and select to reboot into recovery but I don't have the option to wipe the battery stats in recovery.
Here is something I noticed. Charge to 100% with the phone on. Then powerdown. The phone will continue to charge for another 20-30 mins and then say 100%. I really doubt that powering down the phone after a 100% charge will drain that much juice.

[Q] Battery Charging Woes

Slight oddity with my Vibrant.
Occasionally when I charge the phone, it will show that it is completely charged--battery gauge will show full, About Phone will show 100% charge, all of that good stuff. When I unplug the phone, my battery gauge will instantly drop to 97%.
Additionally, for the entire duration of this particular charge, my battery life will be total crap. And by total crap I mean draining 1% in five minutes with the screen off, going from 97% to 78% in two hours with the only use being a quick check of bus schedules.
However, if I notice this 100-to-97 instant drop and plug the phone back in until it charges to 100% again, it will not display any of this odd behavior and battery life is awesome as usual, with standby power consumption at 1-2% an hour.
So... what gives?

Dont worry about when you unplug it, its just a inaccurate reading.
It happened to me this morning with Axura, and my battery showed 97%, but the 3% was given back without me knowing, does your phone stay at the 97 for a longer time? it should, and also some people say do a battery calibration.
its like
charge till' 100
drain it to 0
charge till 100
and then on clockwork recovery go to advanced and do wipe battery stats or something
^ im not sure someone correct me if i'm wrong about the calibration.
I conditioned this battery after flashing the ROM last month. You have the directions mixed up... should charge to full, boot in clockworkmod, delete battery stats, reboot, drain to 0, charge back to full.
And no, it doesn't stay on 97 for longer than it should; as I stated in the OP, if it does the 100-97 drop, the battery life is significantly worse than when it acts normally.
I get the same thing. Actually at the moment I am trying to unplug... see the 97% and plug it back in, it will then say fully charged, I unplug it and it says 98%. I am going to repeat this until it actually says fully charged when I unplug it and then reboot to recovery and wipe the stats.
What I am confused about when it comes to reconditioning and wiping is even when the phone says "fully charged" when I reboot to recovery and wipe, once the phone has rebooted it says it's charging again. Should I leave it in until it says fully charged or unplug it after it boots?
It seems to do the 100-97 thing primarily when charging via USB. Almost every time I've seen this happen was when it was charging off my laptop.
I've noticed also that when it does this, the battery icon (I use Segmented Battery Mod) shows "100" solid without a flashing plug icon. If I unplug it, it will drop to 97. If I plug it back in and it actually charges completely, it will flash between the plug icon and "FULL."
hmm...mine does it no matter how I charge it.

Mine USED to do thar with Nero beta 3 now on Axura IRS dine I've been using it for 20 minutes and still at 100%
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Updated to Nero v3 and now I have the problem constantly. It will always claim 100% charge when it isn't actually fully charged.

If you've flashed the ROM, do the "recondition" -- or if you have a stand-alone (external) charger, just charge it full, then put in the new battery and wipe your stats. (The recondition thing -- charging, draining, then charging -- is just a theory that on the second full charge you'll get "more" charge in there after a full drain -- I doubt this is true, especially if your battery stats are hosed to begin with.)
As for the dip after you unplug it -- this is just the battery manager varying the maximum charge level to optimize battery life. Laptops do this all the time -- even when they're plugged in, they'll let the machine run on battery power here and there. For a new battery it might only let it dip to 97%. On one of my laptops it has decided dipping way down to 86% is optimal. Just depends on the battery health, usage patterns, etc.
Battery life was pretty bad when I first flashed Nero, but now that I've wiped battery stats, the battery life seems much better. It still does the 100-97/98 thing, so I'm guessing it means my battery is still pretty good despite all the heavy use!
The JL5 modem seems to have worse battery life than JK6 (only very slightly though) but it doesn't get stuck on EDGE like JK6 did... net gain in my opinion.

Wiping Battery Stats

Hi Guys,
I know there's been a few threads on this, but a lot of them don't really answer what I'm about to ask.
I've noticed lately that my battery has been losing about 10% in the first half an hour, then goes down quite slowly which makes me think I need to wipe the battery stats. However a lot of people keep saying 'wipe battery stats' then fully drain, which seems like a ridiculous idea knowing what we know about how badly batteries react to full discharges (on a bad day you can actually knacker the battery), so what I'm asking is can I just wipe the battery stats at 100% without discharging. The user manual never said about fully discharging my phone when I first got it so why would I need to do it now? Also, this concept of bump charging, how would I do it on a Galaxy I9000
Thanks very much!
Breaking you battery through a full discharge? Never heard of that.

again though, a full discharge, is that wise?
You need to calibrate your battery. There is an app in the market..just search "battery calibration". Charge your phone to 100% then use the app to wipe the stats. Let your phone discharge. Full discharge is not necessary. Discharge to 1% then charge it back up to 100%. Good to go. If you don't want to use the app, you can wipe your battery stats in recovery which accomplishes the same thing.
When you drain your battery, your phone will not just stop working at some point, it will shut down your phone in an orderly fashion before you battery is fully depleted.
When I drain my battery and my phone shuts down because of it, I can still switch it on again and it will work for a minute or so after it has fully started before it will switch off again.
Could I not just wipe the stats and not fully discharge? Or does that achieve nothing. I'm pretty certain it's these battery stats. Today, it went down to 84% in seconds. I've noticed if I plug it in, it charges full, unplug, then plug in again, it starts at about 91% and does the rest. Sound like a battery stats issue?

When you charge, you phone says "charged" as soon as it hits 90%. Check the about-menu in settings (or in my case at least, the lock screen while plugged in) to see at what percentage you really are when your phone says it's charged.

Oh right I didn't realize that. I'll try it. I've just unplugged it and it immediately said 98% so I plugged back in. This time when I pull, I'm going to wipe the battery stats. I don't really want to discharge fully, because even at 1% it's not great for it. If anyone can state categorically that I shouldn't, tell me now please haha

[Q] Battery Issues

Ive been having a weird battery issue. my battery gauge will say its at 15% or whatever it says at the time. ill plug it in and like 10 minutes later it will say 100% battery is fully charged. Obviously its not 100%, even when I charge it overnight, when I unplug it itll be stuck at 100% for like 2 hours then all the sudden drop to like 85%. im lucky if my battery lasts 12 hours now , same thing has happened on different roms. Do I need a new battery?

I'd try a different ROM/Kernel, see if that makes any difference (after clearing batterystats in CWM).
If that wouldn't help, I'd say battery is ze dead.

tried differents and kernels, and wiped battery stats guess my battery is done
try "battery calibration" app. it helps me a lot, and keep my phone running longer. i can last almost a day with medium use.
i have also tested with on screen non-stop (wifi + online game that require wifi, brightness roughly around 30%, medium volume, with whatsapp and talkbox in between), in conclusion, i can run for 4hours plus straight with sufficient battery left. i never push it through, i think i can go for 5 hours if i want to.
battery calibration app can be found in play google store
Worst battery life evah!
Im having issue with my battery as well, I plug it in a electric outlet for about an hour last night and when i saw the charge, it was only like 49%!!!!
And today, before my meeting it was like 22%, after an hour of meeting, BOOM! EMPTY BATT! What I only did was surf and checked my calendar!
It charge slow! And its draining fast!
something happened to my battery before last month, when i charge my fone it says 88% then suddenly after few mins 1 or 2 it become fully charge, but when i unplug my charger it comes back to 88% again, i tried some apps like battery calibration and also i'm wiping the battery stats in cwm everytime i flashed a new rom and it helps my battery charge in normal and accurate level...i'm using also cpu spy to checked if my fone is going to a deep sleep. now my battery lasts for 1day 11hrs with light usage. but for heavy usage i've got 40% after 4hrs of continious hd gaming.

[Q] New battery, at 1% for 6 hours

I decided to replace my 2+ year old Atrix battery with an OEM battery. Since then I can charge to 100% just fine (ran the battery fixing apps and did a wipe battery cache thing) but the battery discharges visibly, like down 4% for a single google search, and gets stuck at 1% for many hours. I used an app to see the voltage and it tops out at 4.2v and levels out at I think 3.5v and dies around 3.2-3v if I remember correctly. Anyway, I just don't know how long the phone will last but it is lasting most of the day. Even turning setcpu off I run for hours with a battery drain app and stay at 1%.
Using MROM-1-0.20120505-olympus. I think this is still considered CM7.
Kernel 2.6.32.59-MB860-MROM-ga43d614.
I dont see your question...
Any way I think you need a few charge-discharge cycles to make your battery statistics work.

Okay, the question is what can I do to make the drop more linear rather than going from 100 to 1 in an hour and staying at 1 the rest of the day.
And I've charged discharged half a dozen times with no change.
As you have tried, I don't have better ideas.
I like checking the voltage reading, rather than the percentage value. It usually makes more sense above 3.6V.
Delete all files (or even better copy somewhere for backup) in /data/battd/. Turn off your phone, charge it few hours after led become green, remove battery with charger connected, wait for "?", place battery again and charge it for about 1 hour, turn phone on with charger connected, check battery level, wait to 4200mV and 100%, finally disconect charger. Use phone without recharging until it turn itself off or reach 1%. Then charge it and use normally.
I did it with new battery and now works great, charge to 4200mV, 100% and discharge to 1%

I have the EXACT same problem as original poster, and i see my battery dying to 1% within couple of hours, and then remaining on 1% for rest of the day! This is misleading and most of time i have no idea how much more my phone will go on. All this despite the fact that i bought my battery paying 35 bucks to get it directly from Amazon!
Tried doing what Zeljko1234 has said in his post above, but to no avail. The problem remains as it is. Anybody else faced this issue and found a resolution? Will hard reset or rooting help? Appreciate any help
