[Dev Only] Collaborative thread of ICS on HTC Evo View [Express] - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Alright, this thread is for all developers to post their progress, sources, etc for other developers to work on. There will be NO tolerance of "Good job" "thanks" etc, just click the damned button on the bottom. Now, what I have so far, is found that the tiamat kernels from cayniarb don't even boot so no kernel logs from that. I assume jmz may have something to contribute with kernels.

Here's a port of the flyer ICS rom (not the one chaos is working on) for the view. It boots to a black screen but you can get a logcat. We have gotten it to the bootanimation before so it should'nt be hard to do. If someone posts logcats (since I don't have the view) I will still help out

Good Job and Thanks ...sorry i had to. But yeah, what we have now is looking like a kernel issue. I have source and Im looking at it but that DOES NOT mean, im going to be able to do something useful. lol.

What we really need is a good work over the kernel aspect.. I think cayniarb's done a decent job getting it initiated but he doesn't have a view to test it on :/
I only understand how to modify the source of existing kernels, getting AOSP kernel out of the source for whatever was tailored by HTC is way beyond my skill, so I look towards you guys for that.
We've have several guys trying to work on a kernel though, what's the status from each of their end? (Thought they were all working independently, etc)

sorry to jump in to this discussion, but had to know if development is under action here or somewhere else? WOuld love to see some progress with ics on View, cos right now my View is about to die... ive lost intesest in it. Its sluggish, slow and not optimized... have faith in you guys though

Any chance you still have that port? I might be able to make some head-way if all we need to get this booting is kernel work.

Hmm well that port is really outdated. I tell you what, I will try and get a basic port going of the Sense 4.0 ROM of the flyer and upload that for you guys to mess around with hopefully you will be able to get a logcat out of it

You're the man, thank you sir.

Well I'm trying to upload it and I keep getting stuck on 1% which is really annoying so I'll try again later.

You could possibly use the boot.img from the kingdom ICS leak (evo design 4g) since it's the same exact chip and pretty much the same Hw except for the screen(which could cause an issue?). I tried just booting that leak(only changing the partitions in the update-script to match the views) and of course it was a no go which I expected but had to give it a shot anyway. lol So then I edited the build.prop and copied over some libs (which I think is the problem since they are HC libs). I also unpacked both the stock HC boot.img and the kingdom leak boot.img. I'm thinking I have to make changes there but I dont know what to change. I dont even get logcat access just stuck at the HTC screen

You could try changing the bootclasspath in the init.rc file of the ramdisk to that of ICS? I've read around before that doing that would make a port boot but I've never had such luck in doing so. If I could ever get this uploaded maybe I can try and help if it has a logcat.

I'll be honest with you, I dont think I have ever really seen a donation pool thread work out the way it should. The donation pools that do usually work better are "get so and so dev this device" (as long as the so and so dev is a well known dev, well respected already yada yada yada)

[UPDATE 2/6/12] ICS Rom Beta now available elsewhere!

BETA ICS 4.0.X Brought to you by Team DRH is NOW AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE! (And if you don't know where elsewhere is you don't deserve it )
February 2nd
IceCreamSandwich is now available brought to you by the genius's that make up Team DRH! Due to the Teams wishes no direct links shall be posted so if you want it you will have to do one of the following:
1. Go over to -that other site-, find the Gtab section and the ICS Beta thread and download it, OR
2. wait for it to be officially posted on XDA here (which I have no idea when it will happen.)
and that's all I have to say on the matter. This here post can be found later in the thread but I'm quoting it here as well for convenience:

January 15th
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Sorry I haven't updated in a while! been a bit busy but I come bearing wonderful news! in the last 2 months development has shifted entirely from Honeycomb to IceCreamSandwich and rather than the .36 kernel it's being built with the .39 kernel. While this may sound like it would take a lot longer it really isn't due to the source code for ICS being released so the devs don't have to jump through hoops trying to get stuff to work.
The reality of it is that it's a heck of a lot easier to get ICS working than it would be to have continued with HC3.2. and ICS IS working. Fosser2 said that there's a possibility that a public beta build MIGHT be released next week if everything goes well. (so we can cross our fingers and hope). I believe everything BUT the camera is working now so they are likely just polishing some things up and making sure it won't kill out tablets before releasing anything publicly.
Here's a couple videos made by one of the alpha testers to wet your whistles.

Old Updates from Honeycomb
It appears that the folks over at Slatedroid have gotten the the .36 kernel to boot into Linux and Honeycomb 3.2 on our tabs! This is great news cause this will give them the ability to see what they need to change in the kernel to get full Hardware Acceleration!!! For the ones that don't know, the .36 kernel is the magical kernel that gives honeycomb hardware acceleration on our chips. He's a quote from the dev thread:
UPDATE 11/24
So Ch3vr0n5 over at SlateDroid has posted that they are accepting 20 applications for alpha testing the .36 kernel. Space is limited so make sure to read this thread over on SD if you wish to apply

Update 10/05/11
We have ALL the nvidia proprietary drivers working in the .36 kernel now. The streak image would have been useful if it had the same accelerometer as we do , but it doesn't.
I'm not sure what sound chip the streak 7 has, but if it was the same as ours it would be useful.
Each manufacturer has the ability to use whatever sensor devices they want. This also changes how they are connected to the tegra2.
Update:
Wake from sleep fixed, I was trying to get the lowest power sleep mode to work, but it seems to be an issue in the bootcode embedded in the tegra2. There is a workaround but the bootloader needs to support it, which is why I was trying the hannspad 1.3 bootloader.
lp1 isn't bad however, my tab slept all night and woke up with a full battery.
There is a really annoying error on the i2c bus at the moment causing the capacitive keys not to work. (really, really annoying)
The heat issue seems to be wifi related, others are not having the same issue.
Once the i2c issue is fixed then most of the kernel issues are done.
Sound is likely a mix of kernel and rom issues.

Reminder:
guys, can you make sure people dont use my hannspad kernel on the gtab.
.36 doesn't use the ODM like .32 does, so things like gpios, buses and regulators look a lot more device specific now.
I'm concerned you could do some damage by using it.
obviously happy for you to use the rom, its roughly based on VC9,with some Adam changes and pulls from the a500, but you really need a gtab kernel,to play with it.
I've used some of treznorx changes in my repo, (hell I've even been that lazy i haven't bothered changing his file names yet)so there's obviously shared ground, and I'm happy to pay it back how I can...
it looks like mohan has a pretty solid gtab kernel built now.
have fun ..

Update 09/28/11
Yes that is currently how we are testing the kernel by injecting the kernel into the Vegacomb ROM and making a change in init.harmony.rc; however, once we get closer to a polished product we will give tlbardeljr and anyone else who is interested notice so they can starting tinkering away at 3.2 for a future release. We should have an alpha test version out in a week or so but don't hold us to that
Cheers
Also the flashback team have finally responded!! Here is a quote:
"Give it a few weeks when this kernel is complete the Flashback team or other modders will probably make a 3.2 port."
Flashback: We are all ready tabletcraze just have not been posting here because dont want to distract from your work. (awesome job to all of you!)
I do expect there will need to be framework changes. Newbe and the vega guys are digging through these now so a lot have been fixed already.
If there is anything you guys want me to do now just let me know.....otherwise I will go back to staying out of your hair so you can continue the awesome work.
So keep a lookout for a flashback update soon after this kernel releases!!

Great work from Kushiels over in the Adam camp getting sound code working well! Actually, great work from everyone who has contributed by way of code, testing, building, gathering info, cheering the devs, etc! The gang on our IRC channel have all done a fabulous job getting everything to where it is today...
I have sound on both speakers...volume buttons fixed...working on volume level and a new sensors library right now....
todo :
wakelocks,
PM,
fix long hold on pwr button,
fix USB so it works without workaround,
fix battery fuel guage,
fix media buffering,
fix mmc so it static maps to avoid SD card issues at boot,
and last but not least the crappy camera...
It will soon be time to get this in the hands of our ROM developers to do preview and perform their magic.

Update 09/10/11
Ok, I have been gone for a while dealing with stuff but the dev team has been trucking along and we have new contributors. Currently I think we are actually moving to a 2.6.38.3 base instead of 2.6.36.3 because it just likes our tablet much better. Yay! rootfs Ubuntu is booting and touchscreen works with wifi so I feel we are closer to our end goal, booting android and having full HW acceleration. Hope to post a more in depth update later when I get a few minutes to get back into the game. Check page ten (I think) for a youtube video showing Ubuntu running.

A new .38 kernel was found that plays a lot nicer with our tabs with Linux. We were able to boot Backtrack 5 with it and have working touch screen, WiFi, and even Bluetooth. We are working now to see how it does with android!

"Still working on it. Mayday-Jay has been doing a lot of work on the kernel and he is able to get the Gtab working on the BackTrack5 correctly.
Yesterday, I got a few debug logs from the 4950 and Pershoot's .43 kernel. With those, we think we will be able to bridge the gap and have something that will boot on Android.
The biggest hurdle right now seems to be related to the clocks since the frequencies are different from 2.6.32 and 2.6.36.
If anyone is playing with the kernel and got some debug logs or more information, do not hesitate to send it to us."

Actually, it's not a port of VegaComb 3.2 (Honeycomb 3.2) they are working on as the title suggests.
They are just in the beginning stages of trying to convert the Adam .36 kernel that Rayman did. Rayman had to rewrite various drivers for the Adam hardware (which is similar to, but not the same as ours) to get it working on the Adam. Hopefully they can do the same for ours.
Update 08/25
@aabbondanza
yes you are right atm but none of our honeycomb ports are built to use hardware acceleration(even though they can be changed to do so). So that means our only option for testing is vegacomb. So if they get it to boot vegacomb then that will be our first rom with HW ACC and the others can rewrite their already made honeycomb ports to use the new kernel

Granted, a VegaComb 3.2 port would be great, but, no one has gotten it to work on the gTab and no one has announced that they are working on a VC 3.2 port.
Our current HC roms are operating on .32 kernels that don't fully support HC, while Rayman has created a .36 HC kernel that supports full h/w accelleration on the NI Adam (another close cousin of the gTab as the Vega is).
Even the guys over at Slatedroid who trying to convert the Adam .36 kernel discussed trying to use the Vega release as a starting point but decided that since the Adam kernel now supports full hardware accelleration & that Rayman had offered assistance if needed, that would be easiest route to getting this working on the gTab.
IMO, the first step in achieving full accelleration is going to be switching a .36 kernel. Once we have a working gTab .36 kernel then we should look forward to newer versions of Honeycomb & or Icecream Sandwich.
Yes you are right sorry I guess that I didn't understand your last post lol Thank you for going into more detail

Title is still kind of misleading. Kernel programming is no simple task. They are at the very beginning stages. I'll be much more excited when they start making progress. Hats off to them though because I surely couldn't do it. At this point they appear to be wavering between continuing to work with the Adam kernel or maybe switching to the Vega one.

SGS2 roms

I know I will almost indefinitely be flamed for asking this, but oh well here goes.
When I first got my AT&T SGS2, I installed an international rom (villain) It ran perfectly fine other than the fact calls were not operating properly. I immediately jumped ship though scared for my phone's life. I reflashed stock and AT&T modem, but now that I think back on it- wouldn't having flashed the at&t modem remedied that problem? and if truly need be couldn't an at&t version kernel be flashed( i.e. Entropy's DD) Everything seemed to operate perfectly fine (install went well, booted properly, smooth homescreen, apps running great)
In theory, replacing kernel/modem (and making sure the ROM doesn't include a bootloader) should work - however this is untested.
I'm going to be trying it tonight with SensatioN, as I did like that ROM when "hellraised" on Infuse and someone requested it, and it's about time someone tries to do a "hellraise" on an I9100 ROM.

you're correct bro. ports from i9100 roms are very possible. the one thing you will need to do is change some of the lib and bin files to rid the issues with the mic on in calls. i think ive successfully ported just about most of the i9100 dev section so far. lol. for personal use only. if you need some help just let me know.

Ha! Completely understandable. Thank you so much though, this proof-of-concept is wonderful news. It would be most beneficial to see some ports of well-supported GT-I9100 roms such as villain and DLEV rom etc.
Looks like there might be some known issues with my PoC port then... as I said, I haven't tested outgoing audio much (this is much harder for me to test than dialing voicemail...)

I know that turning Samsung Noise Reduction off (or on? It's freaking unclear whether "on" is the current state or destination state in the menus) seems to work around the problem on a per-call basis.

In the meantime, CM7.1 would be nice - but will they just skip over 7.1 for new devices and focus on 9?
Just as a heads up, Max Krivonos posted that he stopped working on CM7 for the amaze and is going straight to CM9,
Double edged sword. Great for CM9 but no CM at all for a few months.
Yea I really miss CM. Wish it would get here asap.

I've thought alot about selling this phone due to the lack of having a huge community support (face it, it's no Sensation, Desire Z/HD, Evo, etc)... The hardware is good, the replacement? Obviously a Galaxy Nexus, if there is a solid CM9 port for this device, I would probably just save myself the trouble and keep using this, This has everything that the international GNex would have, except for the huge high res amoled screen. Please Koush/Max!!!! (I would think quite a bit could be borrowed from the Pyramid builds, with the obvious exception of the NFC/camera)
Uh... How long has the phone been out?? Let's face that first before complaining about the lack of development... It'd be nice if there was but its not going to happen over night...

Be patient my friend! I think the reason behind (kinda) lacking developtment for this phone is because there will be an ICS came out soon for it in early 2012 and most Devs are waiting for the official Amaze ICS release rather than wasting their time to built rom that would only last for less than two months
On that perspective I am really thankful for Xboarder for his effort to brought us something to satisfied our addictiveness of flashing meanwhile
I am more thankful to Max Krivonos, and Keyan Mobli (Scepterr/kmobs), Max is probably gonna be the maintainer for the Amaze for CM9 and is currently the maintainer for the MT4GS, kmobs is the maintainer of the Sensation for CM9 and has it to a point where he's said "So I'm now using ICS as my daily driver"... There is hope, but if you're looking for CM7/9 or any REAL AOSP build, don't expect xboarder to deliver that, I don't think he compiles anything, he's a themer/kanger/(insert less offensive term here). There is hope, but I'm dying to see some actual AOSP builds, GB or ICS.

Well, I'm by no mean a tech guy or whatsoever in that manner. All I can do is follows instruction to flashing Rom and stuff so when it come to judging who done what I have no idea eventhough I'm very much understanding what kang is ...
Perhaps when Max and whoever on CyanogenMod team came over and gave us some ICS or CM9 goodness, 'til then, the very few peoples who get this Amaze forum go on as it is and gave us something to played with is Xboarder56, Mike1986 and NRGZ28 .... and for that I am appreciates their times and effort putting into it
Heck, I even thanksful those themer like Alexia Whitehurst, killathenoob, TheSneakerWhore for uploading their theme file even though I myself know how to extract files from rom and uploading onto UOT kitchen
Those guy are ways better than those who did nothing .

Just trying to keep options out there during our "slow" (see:new) period. Development takes time--Hell, I'm stuck on a macbook until I can save up for a notebook. Once I get that, I'll be able to do real theming/modding. UOT framework feels like a cop-out right now, but it is all that is being offered and we need the activity to draw more people. I have a to-do list of mods I want to do, but until I get my hardware back, it isn't happening.
Ultimately, it is patience. This phone is very new--ICS is around the corner.

+1.
There is still very much a lot of effort being put in here.
I also am thankful to everyone helping out during our slow period. Although I can't wait for some true aosp action. I absolutely hate sense. It's pretty, but I just prefer aosp

AOSP ptIII (the Revenge of the RC)

We are starting a new thread as we enter a new phase of development.
We are beyond confident @ this point that we are where we need to be. We are now working on new init.rc and init.mapphone_cdma.rc that will be able to boot a cm7 atrix nightly.
As of now we only have aceoyame working on these and wish to solicit ideas from those who may be more experienced or who have a keen eye for the obvious.
We will be test flashing this first run shortly. Lets keep this thread clean. We are expecting only comments relating to the new .rc's or pointing out obvious shortcomings of our method.
Expect a test flash to be posted here shortly so others can try along.
So without further ado... here are the initial versions of the inits as modified by aceoyame..
init.mapphone_cdma.rc http://pastebin.com/N3CFNrBX
init.rc http://pastebin.com/KdpL6eKC
Help and comments are welcome...
If you apprecieate our work please hit THANKS on the appropriate post to let us know you guys care and to keep the thread un-cluttered. So far with the other threads it seems we only have about 20 or so users who are looking forward to this.
There is an excellent thread here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372293 started by ashclepdia that can be used for speculation, thanks, etc...
Thanks again to the many users here for helping during the sbf flashing phase.. we may need your help again soon.
And last but not least thanks again to dragonzkiller for taking the time from his busy schedule to get us past the last hurtle.
So fu$king excited! Thanks guys!

While reading init.mapphone_cdma.rc i noticed like 3 mount points referencing yaffs2. From what I understood, yaffs2 isn't supported by the X2. That was the only glaring thing I saw so far.
Keep up the great work
Edit: Everyone, Please lets keep on topic. If you have any questions or you want to say thanks please use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372293
We need to keep this topic clean for the sake of development.
Thanks
can someone explain whats this for and what it does?
Does it improve something?
Makes my phone faster?
Last longer?
Took better photo and video?
Better sound quality?
Tnx

This is me asking for all of the x2 devs to pitch in and help with CM now that we have 2nd init going. The thing holding us back atm is our init scripts, the one were using bombs out shortly before boot animation (before adb runs) any help would be awesome!
Do you have link to CM7 including 2nd init you are testing with?
I want to push it into my phone when I get a chance this weekend and see whether I can help.
Thanks.
Well its a new day.. and i begin my holliday break.. Gonna spend a good bit of it working on this. I have some new approaches I am going to try today. Hopfully we can get some good information from the upcoming tests.

We intend to release a testing package shortly, once it is logging some sort of usefull data for us. In its current conditions it is not very informative. Rather then spending time getting people up to speed on it.. i am gonna try to get it to a point that it is more useful and self explanatory.
Ideally someone with more experience booting on second init devices will come along and give us a nudge to speed things up
In the meantime i have re-written our hijack to work along side our current X2 bootstap so that will save us some sbf time.
Hang in there.. We are getting close. Thanks for everyones support.
Probably should've posted this earlier, but I have a fairly powerful system. I could compile for you guys.
(I'd need to know what to install, since I haven't compiled a ROM before)

So I take it the script I sent you over helped a lot? It's good to see that! If you're guys' init script works I can patch them into an actual CM7 build for the X2 (So that we can have a device config, and eventually nightlies for it).

Don't worry about trying to compile anything yet. For a few reasons:
They're only patching an ATRIX build, not compiling yet
We don't have a full device setup for the X2 (i'm working on that now)
My computer is more than powerful enough to start releasing office DX2-Dev-Team betas from the repo, so don't worry about compiling yet
I will be on irc @ #X2-AOSP all night for the specific discussion of this thread.
So after a late night in IRC we managed to past 1 of the 2 hurdles we were trying to solve. Thanks to all that helped.
We were able to get some logcat action going!!
One more hurdle to pass and we are going to be VERY CLOSE.
Thanks again for those that were up late night working on this..
Which hurdle?

If so, would this allow people to install or port ics? or copy the fix for blue tint on camera on droid 3?

[Request] Froyo Sense for HTC HERO

Hi All,
As you can see, our last dev (Kemoba) has left this forum.
He has done great job. So big thanks to him.
He unfortunately couldn't finish his last ROM which was hopefull for sense lovers.
This ROM is pretty awesome. It runs froyo+sense 2.1 and is very fast.
Unfortunately, it has two bugs : GPS and camera aren't working...
BUT : this ROM (Herolatte) was also running froyo+sense but was slow and kinda buggy.
So, my goal is to make a mix between those two ROMs and have a last working ROM for our Heroes.
I'm actually not a dev and can't do it by myself.
Why do I want this kind of ROM?
--> because many apps request at least foyo to get installed, and because Sense has many more functionnalities than AOSP.
I hope some people here will help on this project.
If you guys are going to do this, be my guest, get my rom, mod it and name it whatever you want, im gonna tell you my findings so far. Putting latte's libcamera, libcameraservice or any lib that has camera in it's name and hoping that it will work, well it wont why i have no idea probably some weird incompatibility. My advice: look at the kernel and HAL's. HAL's are in /system/lib/hw check them, try to find a hal that will fix the camera and work with stock/latte libs. Check the kernel's init.rc or something like that, look for any camera related stuff. Froyo camera and GPS was always a problem for our heros, and if you cant make it work with latte, get a rom from Droid Eris or HTC Magic Froyo, they are preety similar and i believe that we can nick some libs/hals of those roms and make a hell of a mix... If you make it work it's awsome, mention me as something or put up a link to my rom Again if you guys need anything im here, Im probably gonna be online at irc.freenode.net on #team-legacy channel...
Thanks for your advices, dude.
I'im gonna link some Eris and magic ROMs so if someone want to help, he doesn't have to search.
I promise : if we get it working, the ROM name would be "Kemoba's Legacy"

Just try to look at files kemoba mentioned and swap them.
I list some files:
- lib/modules: be sure you have the right files for the kernel
- lib/hw: take these files of a working froyo ROM for camera and gps
- etc/ : gps.conf. Take the file of a ROM with working gps
- lib/ : swap all files with lib...so (...= camera or gps) with the ones of a working ROM
If this doesn't work, try to search some other differences in the lib/ thread. There are some more general files that influence the camera and gps.

First of all, thanks for your answer.
Like I said, I'm no dev. Actually, I 've already tried playing with some libs, but i finally gave up because i'm too bad at this. I don't even know what you mean by "swap this file"
But if you're offering assistance, I accept it with pleasure.

To be precise, I think we should put Herolatte libs in Anthrax...
Herolatte libs wont work, i tried... Try to use some libs from eclair roms, i have a hunch that they might work, more specifically, beastsense since it has sense.... BTW, learning about android development isnt that hard...
OK, I'll give some more links of eclair+sense ROMs.
Edit :
Here are the links :
- Heroine
- BeastSense
Waiting for the rom . Hero has been forgot too long.
Don't expect this too much. Almost 700 views on this thread but still no help proposed.
All you need to fix it is mentioned. You know have to swap each file and flash the ROM. Does it work? It's fixed. Doesn't it work? Try other files and flash again. It will take a long time but that's the only way to be sure it works.
What happened with this project?
AW: [Request] Froyo Sense for HTC HERO
Will this Project support Multi language?!
I'm sure pirlouit has tried his best on this but he said himself that he is no dev. combine that with the fact that it seems there are no devs left for the hero (that actually own the phone) that could help then I wouldn't hold your breath on this.
if i could help pirlouit with this then i would but I'm no dev either. I have 0 experience in this kind of stuff, I wouldn't even know where to begin
If there are enough people that would like to use this ROM, I maybe could try. Find enough people and I'll see what I can do. Although I have no HTC Hero, the core should be the same for a Magic.
I should have a hero coming this week, I'm no dev, but I'll help you out as much as I can PowerPlop!
