If you only use Touchpad for Skype, why dont you boot into WebOS. Skype video working perfect there.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Note - please forgive if typos

Yeah this is what I'm going to have to do.

That's not exactly a bad thing... webos is great. it has better battery life than I've and Skype is good on it. I don't see any problems with it.

Webos supports skype very nicely if this is all you use the touchpad for.
I have ICS on mine as well and most of the time I use webOs seems to support almost every site i go to. I have only found a few site it wont work on,Netflix windows live, Hulu.
I use ICS for netflix dont use Hulu and for windows live i just use the webOs email client and hotmail or windows live works fine.
The only thing I am trying to find is a book reader that views text files and has a bookmark or save page function in it , Ics has kemsoft and works but many times bookmark wont work .

No.
And aren't there already like 10 other threads about this?
Still no.
[5 minutes later]... Still no.

Camera is most likely not going to be working for a very long time, despite HP releasing the source for the hardware (or are they still delaying it) and its the last on the priorities list for any developer. I suggest use WebOS for skype cuz that works brilliantly

I'm very confused because I read in another thread in the Question-Answer section that it would come out in two weeks?
Could anyone fact check this?

This is not the place to pose this question. The place to ask would be Rootzwiki, where the dev's can be found. There you'll find changelogs and sourcecode for just about everything, and you can certainly make changes and compile it yourself.
If you honestly and seriously know what you're talking about, and think you can help, the dev team would probably be very appreciative of assistance. Meaning, if you can code that stuff, great- lend a hand. But if you're just curious, then try to research your question without nagging the devs. They work hard, and for free. You could begin researching the topic, here.
Now, in answer to your question. I could be wrong. I'm just a simple Java/C# coder who can also do a bit of web. But it was my understanding that the driver is the issue. The source code for the kernel has been released, but (also as I understood it, I could be wrong) the entire kernel was not released. The drivers for mic and cam, however, were not released (again, if I understood correctly). So there's the problem. And further, the cam and mic are not at the top of the devs' list of priorities. They are working on other stuff that they feel is more important, about which I tend to agree, unknowingly. I mean, they recently (in the last 4-6 weeks) got us hardware acceleration working (in several applications, but not all). What I mean to say, is that there are bigger fires to be put out that users don't typically see as fires. But also, the cam and mic drivers not being released is a pretty big chunk of code. AFAIK they were going to have to begin to write these from scratch, which is a pretty hefty challenge that they've chosen not to undertake at this point. That's their prerogative, and I'm not going to nit-pick about that.
Basically, if you need cam and mic, you can install CM7 (which has bugs of its own) or you can boot into webOS. Those are our options at the moment.

Or learn software development and learn to write drivers and contribute!
Personally, I know I can't code worth a damn, so I just accept what other people write.

Ignorance is bliss .
ICS Android 4 has not been released by Samsung .
XDA have a leaked ICS v KP8 Beat test rom not everything works that's why its not released .
You can install or one of the custom roms built around this . But its not for noobs and will of course void your warranty .
jje
I installed it 1 time and i was not happy whit it so i got back to official stuff xD
I found the latest CM9 build from Codeworkx to be stable enough as a daily use ROM. But I prefer TouchWiz to vanilla, so I switched back. It was very smooth though.

Rather than being smartasses, why not give the guy an actual answer? If you think that said 'noobs' will be re educated by repeatedly posting that video, you're delusional. Either that or you genuinely think the same joke is funny after the 3rd time in a row, in which case, you're still delusional.
With this kind of attitude rife, nobody will learn to use the forum correctly or get the answers they want, creating yet more noobs.
To answer OPs question - no, there is no official ICS builds
from samsung yet. You're welcome to try a leaked build or Cyanogenmod 9, which I personally find stable enough for daily use. If you want real stability with every feature functional, however, you're going to have to wait to the official version from Samsung.
Next time, to avoid this immature nonsense, do a quick search and browse the development forum.

Some good points, however a bit of mickey taking should be expected
I am running the CM9 ICS ROM and it is very good even at this early stage. Bits like audio out through the Sammy car dock aren't working (as you'd expect) and the video issues are annoying but not show stoppers IMO so I'm using this as my daily driver for now and will see what the battery life is like.
The only real way is to do a backup and try it out for yourself.

I'll tell you why.
More and more people are coming to these forums, and disregard everything that's posted. They jump in, create a thread, ask the same questions, and expect us to do the work for them.
If this specific user took the 15 minutes to read, he would quickly understand that there are two versions of ICS for the GS2 - leaked builds from Samsung, and CM9. He would also quickly understand that none of these are "full working ROMs".
However, seeing as he couldn't bother himself for 15 minutes to at least try and figure things out on his own, I definitely can't be bothered to write a valid response and to encourage that kind of behavior.
The video basically says "search before you post". He should search before he posts. It isn't funny, it isn't a joke, its actually pretty sad the video had to be created in the first place. But it was created, and it does exist, and so I'll use it whenever its appropriate.
XDA is not anybody's personal tech support - this is not a 1-800 number to dial if you're having problems or questions regarding your device. It is, though, an enormous hub of information that is readily available to anyone who's willing to put in the tiny bit of effort required to properly use it.
Soulicro well said put it in a nutshell .

READ THIS! FAQ for noobs with HP Touchpad running Android. !READ THIS!

Seeing as the Touchpad (known as "TP" from this point on) section is my hangout most of the day (I have a desk job...they don't expect me to actually work do they? pfft...) I have noticed a lot of confusion for people just coming over to the TP with Android and I know myself and many others get frustrated answering the same questions over and over again in the same threads, so I thought I'd try to put something together for what I think are the most common questions. Please add to the thread and I will update the OP. I'm hoping maybe this could be something we all could link to newbies so they can better help themselves familiarize themselves.
Please keep in mind that the TP is not a native Android device, meaning it was not designed to operate with Android on it. Being that this is the case, some things just aren't going to work until extensive work is done. We don't have drivers for some things etc. Patience is a virtue, yadda yadda and all that jazz.
If you do not have Android on your TP, here's how to get CM7 on your TP.
Lets do this.
I just installed Android and as soon as it starts up, it reboots! HALP!
It's sokay! Let it reboot a few times by itself. In my experience, it would reboot four times and then be fine. Why's it do it? I dunno...it just does.

Does the Touchpad have GPS?
Short answer: NO. Long answer: Maybe? Some people claim that the Snapdragon APQ8060 CPU that is in the TP has the capability, and it certainly is a possibility as this the same CPU that is in a bunch of high end phones (T-Mobile Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, HTC Vivid, Galaxy S II LTE, LG Nitro HD, etc). Maybe some day a developer will unlock it if it is a possibility. Currently though, there is no GPS on the TP.

Does the camera work?
Nawp. Dalingrin, the main CM7 developer, has basically said he really doesn't care about getting the camera working. No worries though, you'll be able to use Zombie Booth eventually, as I know the developer community well enough to know that someone will step in and get it working.

What versions of Android are available for my TP?
Currently there are three. Cyanogenmod 7, Cyanogenmod 7 XRON-ified and MIUI 2.3.7. Currently, CM7 XRON-ified is the only one being actively developed, and it's great. Here's the main thread for it, show the developer Leoisright some love.

Oi, this one has been beat to living hell and back. Wifi, for some works flawlessly, for others it doesn't work at all and yet for others it is finicky at best. The current "best" known fix, is just to uninstall everything. and then reinstall using the link I posted at the beginning of this thread. There are some applications that are said to correct the issue as well, but I haven't had any issues so I will include those as soon as someone refreshes my memory. :EDIT: Changing the channel to your router to either 4 or 10 seems to correct a lot of wifi issues. :EDIT 2: Here's a very good thread about correcting wifi. :EDIT 3: Make sure your date and time is set correctly in Settings.

For videos you put on the device yourself, try an app called MX Video Player. I use it and 720p movies looks sexy. My TP get's used a lot for this as my daughter likes to watch movies on it. As far as Youtube and web videos, it's all up to the ROM devs.

This is another known issue that we don't have a real fix for. Some claim a reboot fixes it temporarily. I never had problem with Wifi, but read many threads here....i am not sure but for some people changing the channel worked...and in some cases changing the whole router worked too..so I think you might include that....atleast the channel piece,,
Also even CM7 is developed actively...we didn't see any updates from long time becoz they are focused on ICS....(I think)

I noticed there is no reference to Market accessibility which I assumed would be huge, is there a reason for that?

Bravo!!
Great idea and good first start!!! Everyone (not only us noobs) will truly appreciate this. Searching for a nugget in 500+ pages becomes a near impossible task. My only fear is that your FAQ could become almost as unwieldy as the Xron thread. A simple spreadsheet as an attachment in your OP might be helpful. A straight forward listing of known problems with a link to the best answer(s) could probably take care of the vast majority of queries. Expanded narrative for the really complex problems, e.g., wifi issues, could possibly be included in a second spreadsheet or linked back to the appropriate thread for comment. Let me know if I can help.

im interested in this project mostly because would be nice to test performance on the s2 but then you would run into issues like their retina display, apple would never allow it since there platform is copyright, but luckily this guy is named Anonymous

If he could create a script or program that could take an IPSW (Firmware file) and make it "android ready" for lack of a better term, he would be completely safe. As the user would be downloading the IPSW and supplying it not him. Also the IPSW are available freely on Apple's site so they couldn't come after the users at that point at all. He just has to find a way to do that (not going to be easy).
Also iOS source is available on apple's dev site for anyone to look at it. It's just mostly copywrited (besides the BSD portions). I'm not sure if all of it's there but I have looked at some of it in the past for hints to exploits for jailbreaking.

I have some development background, and from my knowledge of iOS and ARM Devices this would be quite a task if this is what he is doing.
I really want to believe this is real but I just found a link from github by someone called Peter42 who freshly uploaded a "BootDroid" code.
Last update to his blog dated 24 March is the same date the files were uploaded.
I have a Motorola Xoom and believe I can't test them.
Could anyone (for God's sake!) confirm whether they were real or not?
If possible, I already downloaded the files and would upload them for you in case original was removed.
this should be awesome, running ios in the powerfull SII... just for shutup the izombies xP
Even better, the upcoming Galaxy SIII!
But for real, can anyone try that?
I just ran the installation process on my Motorola Xoom and didn't notice any difference like a new app nor by or through restarting.
I'm kinda hyped up on this and would love to brag about how Android is superior to iOS if it was true

I don't really know if this was the link to the program or not though it's called the same.
But as I said before, these files were uploaded the day he last updated his post.
You can download it from there.
I don't really know how this should work since it doesn't even have iOS firmware files but I figured someone with a supported device could try and see for himself.
Nothing appeared on my Xoom at all which is not supported!
And, you can uninstall it from the same installation wizard.
Hi everybody !
Sorry for my english, I'm french.
I am really interested on this application, so I wonder if somebody has already succed in make it working ?
I' ve downloaded the Zip package on the website shared on the link below, but I don't understand how to instal it...
I think that even if it's possible to run iOs and Adroid on a Iphone, it woould be difficult to do the same on a androphone beacause iOs in not an open source system ...
Can somebody help me please ?
Thanks to you guys

What can I use the Lapdock for, now that I am on CMx?

The good old Smiley, to make the reading happier:
I am looking for suggestions.
What could I use my Lapdock for, now that I made the switch to CyanogenMod?
Is there a good solution for making the VNC'ed ARM Ubuntu (look for Ubuntu Installer in the Play Store) work better with the touchpad? Should I sell it? Is there a solution to make remote control apps such as TeamViewer or Splashtop integrate with the Lapdock's keyboard and touchpad? Is there any way to make the device switch to Tablet mode without rebooting? That would be rather interesting to see. By the way, the CM9 ROM I am currently running has got Landscape HDMI working flawlessly, so that should not be an issue...
PS: Please do not ignore this thread. Any suggestions are welcome! (Use your common sense though)

I've struggled with the same question on my photon.. If there's working hdmi rotation on your CM, you can still use it for typing out documents, etc. I also used the mirror mode to watch movies on a larger(than phone) screen in bed.
But eventually I just decided to go back to a blur rom and use ubuntop (which is awesome) while waiting for official ICS and someone hopefully porting ubuntu 12.04 to webtop..
Paranoid Android Rom
I don't understand why canonical hasn't leaked that awesome ubuntudroid system they showed off.. there isn't an easier way to get feedback especially since webtop has died and windows 8 is pushing hard into that whole 'blur the lines' market

Maybe they are waiting for the unified linux/android kernel 3.4 this would most certainly make it easier to port and updates trivial.

Currently, I use it for watching movies as well, and I am looking forward to pairing a Wii Remote and/or a DualShock® 3 to my Atrix™, so that I can play some games such as GTA III and Shadowgun (Max Payne *-*) on the big screen.
I was happy with Blur until the day I ran into that tempting CM9 thread. I did not know what smoothness and responsiveness really were. Blur was the smoothest I thought it could ever get... But I was wrong, and now I have to choose between fluidity and Webtop.
I actually went back to Blur some months ago, but unfortunately, prolonged use of ICS can cause dependence. Believe it or not, I was pretty happy with Blur. Webtop was working flawlessly, I even had BackTrack installed, but then came the relapse: I could no longer resist to ICS. I am now back to CM9, and with it comes my dilemma...
I am looking for a way to use the Atrix™ as a more desktop-ish platform when docked (especially to the Lapdock). I believe the ideal would be Ubuntu through a local VNC client, or a remote desktop app, I just wish they would play nicer with the keyboard and touchpad...
Basically, something like a key mapper (easy-to-use, I am still unable to figure out WiiMoteController's key mapping scheme) for Lapdock's hardware. We could make a keyboard-powered Ouya!
What still concerns me though, is that games would not be optimized for it e.g. Minecraft PE, games where the camera angle for example, is controlled by dragging the screen, so it would have to be a really powerful, but easy-to-use key mapper, and since you can't have everything in life, I'm afraid I'm asking for much...

What I understand from your reply is that the Paranoid Android ROM could put my Lapdock back to use. But what is the Paranoid Android ROM? What makes it different from other ROMs? How could it (at least partially) solve my problem?
Please be more specific.

When the official Ubuntu for Android was announced, even though an Atrix 2 was used for the hands-on part, on the project's official hotsite... It was clearly an Atrix™ 4G standing there on the dock. The differences between our device's design and the Atrix 2's or the Defy's (Defy+'s) are not that obvious, but they are, indeed, noticeable.
You do know what that means, don't you? It means it is almost certain that our device will be on the first batch of officially supported devices!
I don't if the Atrix™ is still there, but if it's not, I can try to find the screenshot I took if you'd like.
I am so proud!

What do you mean? It would have to be ported to each supported device anyway, wouldn't it?

I have never thought I'd say this but, "Please don't get off-topic". I'd appreciate it if this gets settled in a new thread or via PM.
Anyway, you said "stock UbunTop", I could be wrong, but I think it's either stock or UbunTop, which is a mod born right here on our neighbor forum, Android Development.
If yours is really stock, I suggest you get BackTrack from the BackTop project, I don't it's got aircrack built-in, and I was unable to install it, so unless you're an experienced hacker, don't get too excited with BackTrack's features, but my point is: It is amazingly faster than Webtop, it seems lighter, I used to be able to run more than 3 different apps simultaneously...
If yours is really running UbunTop I'm afraid I cannot assist you, since webtop2sd never worked for me and BackTop and WebtopMOD were the only I could ever manage to get working on my device...

I can answer this. What he meant is that you should use Paranoid. Paranoid is a rom thats an hybrid of a phone an a tablet, in short words, you can activate tablet mode for some apps, while some other apps still run in phone-mode, for the ease of use.
What I actually meant was to give a name and a designation, which I did.
Google paranoid android rom and you get the website, the website has a much better explanation then I could or should have to provide.
But yes in short it can give you a tablet UI on lapdock.

Official Ubuntu on prime

Looks like we might have a good chance at a good stable build of ubuntu.Since the nexus 7 shares almost all the main components with our prime.

Fingers crossed !!
Lilstevie has been working on a version but its very very secretive and i'm not sure he has much time to do it now.
sounds good. can't wait to have it :fingers-crossed:
that would be great to have Ubuntu running naively on the prime!!
I can't wait. Running with chroot and vnc is not the same and it gets sluggish

you are confusing secretive with lacking in time. Some things don't get shared, because otherwise everyone bugs me about it, and the little time I do have for things ends up being eaten up by those people. Other things don't get shared because they are simply tests that may or may not even pan out.

Naa i appreciate your busy matey, i know your at uni and doing other things its just whenever anyone asks about the Ubuntu project its usually met with silence.
I honestly think you should start your own thread about your project and update whenever you have the time etc ... i know there are some members that just want want want, but theres plenty that would support your work and be greatful that your just trying your best ... hey no one else can do it !
My comment wasnt ment to be a flame, i'm patiently waiting myself for anything you can come up with, its just sometimes i'd love to know how far your getting etc
tbh i've been desperate to get ubuntu on this thing since i bought it... now i've bought a new laptop, i barely use it anymore.

I didn't interpret what you said as a flame, I was just "going on record" so to speak The development cycle is rather unique due to the device specificities so I have been avoiding creating a new thread so I can keep focused on that. I will be creating a thread soon(tm) for a preview build though (no eta).

This shouldn't be too hard I hope. Considering the prime and n7 share almost everything. The rear cam/keyboard and microsd might be issues. But the kernel may just pickup the cam/microsd.

no, they are not similar devices, they share a cpu/gpu combo, that is pretty much the end of it.
One question it always bug me. When canonical first started to talk about their project some people mention it would be like an app you download out of the market. But if a new kernel is needed, that's not possible, right? The pad would even need to be unlocked.

Most likely yes. Most users looking for Ubuntu are probably unlocked considering that usually flashing anything besides an update requires unlocking.

Canonical said no such thing, ubuntu-on-android is something entirely different to this, it works much like splashtop does on the atrix. They also never said that end users would be able to access it from the play store, it requires being integrated by OEMs.

I wasn't clear, what I meant is that after canonical's anoncement I heard rumors from random people talking about that. And that always bugged me cuz I couldn't figure out how would they pull that off. But what u said makes more sense.
