A preinstalled screen protector(you can just make it out around the earpiece hole)... I don't wanna start picking at the edges, just incase it's not! :-S
The one in the box
Is w bit different...

Yes, they come with a screen protector preinstalled No need to take it of.

Should that scratch easily? I have had the phone less than a day and all I did was pull it out of my pocket and I have a couple scratches now. They don't seem to be coming off. Don't know why but it although it looks like its a protector it doesn't feel like one. I wonder if anyone has actually removed it?

I removed the pre installed protector on my x10 and Arc, I think it's the same thing. I just applied a new protetor directly on the glass.

I found the pre-installed protector made the screen feel very 'sticky' to touch and also attracted dust, dog hair etc like a magnet! Much better without it

I don't think my phone has a screenprotector.
But taday I bought one here:

If your phone came from T-Mobile it should. Me and my partner have one pre-installed at least. You may need to look very closely

Everyone phone sold in the Netherlands has one installed confirmed by Sony NL

Bought an Xperia S in Italy yesterday, and yes, there is one screen protector in the box, one on the display glass and one (with printed demo graphics on it, so it have to be removed) on top of the one installed on the display...
Great !
I saw it just in time, my girfriend was already managing how to stick the protector found in the box

Has anyone else noticed that the softkeys are not very responsive? If so does removing the screen protector help?
I'm starting to think that the screen protector is the cause..

I took mine off. I hate them, and yes, my home button is more responsive.
I found the pre-installed protector made the screen feel very 'sticky' to touch and also attracted dust, dog hair etc like a magnet!

True. It's MUCH better now.

double confirmed, my HK XPS also has a layer of screen protector on it already. removed with much better response from the home/menu/back buttons.

Exactly right.

In the end I decided to remove the screen protector, the softkeys work every time now!
I don't see why I should slide my finger up from the transparent strip when there are keys made to be pressed..
I might put on the other screen protector that was in the box, cutting the bottom part so it doesn't cover the softkeys

Mm.. How did you all remove it safely? I am honestly a little bit afraid... Where I should start to pick it off?
I never have to remove one by myself before...
Sent from my LT26i using XDA

Start at any of the corners and use your nails, or the plastic bubble remover from the other screen protector, it takes a while as it's really stuck on well!

I quite like the fact that the soft keys are a bit unresponsive, saves me accidentally hitting the home key when sliding up the notification panel!

Screen protector
I sent an e-mail to the Sony helpdesk to ask whether this is a screen protector or not.
This is the answer i got from them:
"With regards to your enquiry, I inform you that the Xperia S has a preinstalled protective layer that should not be removed."

See here as well:

comment from xperia support staff:
The phone comes with a shatter proof sheet attached on scratch-resistant glass.
So, the screen protector that comes pre-attached is meant to keep the display from shattering if e.g. dropped. It also protects against other damages to a small extent. This sheet is however not scratch-resistant (the display is though).
You can remove this protection if you want to but I suggest you keep it on. If you remove it you should attach a new one to keep the display protected.
I should also point out that "scratch-resistant" is not the same as "scratch-proof". If you put all your body weight on a sharp object and swipe it over the screen, you will most likely get a scratch so you should still be careful.
I keep my phone in my front jeans pocket with nothing else but the phone in it. Keys, coins etc will damage the phone sooner or later.

Mean I should remove it and replace with another screen protector
Now i applied a screen protector on the other screen protector

3 it disappears the Whiteness under big viewing angles (this phenomenon appears with the original screenprotector )

i bought brando ultraclear. Now i'm waiting
I just ordered it as well.
Looks cool and got a lot positive reviews. Should be ok than
The Brando Ultra Clear fits perfect on the Touch HD.
For me I use the Brando´s screen protectors for years and I think it´s the best you can get.
I have the Ultraclear and found it is about 1mm too short - it leaves a very small amount of fascia just below the buttons unprotected.
That said, it is better than the rubbish one that comes in the box.
If you are in the UK, they are available from Inkino from stock.
I bought mine from xpansys which is quite good, fits brilliantly & covers full screen exactly. you get two in the pack

I agree it's too small, but much better then the htc one.
im also thinking of getting that screen protector. but yall saying is doesn't fit the whole screen. is it noticeable. can you guys show a pics with the screen protector on the phone. thanks in advance.
My Brando Ultra Clear arrived in yesterday's mail from Hong Kong. Now I feel like a total idiot ... I can't get this @&%@ thing to stick down and stay on the screen. How on earth does it attach? There's no adhesive or sticky side. I've spent an hour trying to fit it to the Touch HD. Lots of bubbles - the screen looks like it has leprosy. I've washed it, cleaned it, tried everything I know.
HELP! Please!!
BTW, it has a cut-out for the light sensor, but not for the front cam (which the stock HTC one has).
is Brando's soft film?
This screen protector is 100x better than the stock one, in my opinion. Here's a picture for size reference

Are you trying to put on the actual screen protector or the piece of film that covers the protector when you open that pack? I was doing this myself for a couple of minutes, if its the top cover then its quite rubbery and green tinted, the actual screen protector is probably still stuck to the back cover of the protector still as mine was.
As for the Brando protector once it's on its a lot more impressive than the HTC one from the box, there is a very tiny gap at the bottom of the screen but less than a mm and doesn't affect useage.

Thanks for replying, KASM! No, I'm using the clear Utra Clear itself and not the bluey-green film that protects the protector. The instructions say that one should fit the protector to the device and then remove the green film. I tried that, with no success whatsoever. After fiddling for a while the clear protector had fingerprint smudges, so I washed it (without the device, as the instructions recommend ), dried it with a hairdryer (as recommended) and tried for another hour.
This is rather infuriating as I'm considered rather handy with little tech thingies ... I can't quite change a transistor on the silicon, but doing electronics is a doddle, so why the [email protected]#& is this giving me such grief...
AFW, did you try the other side of this screen-protector?
Cos normally they have that sticky surface covered by this blueish-greenish film
Although I got mine on with little fuss, I must have made a hash of cleaning the screen as it shows as lots of dust particles underneath the SP, have to do the damn thing again after cleaning it.
Determined to get it right after spending so much on a piece of plastic.

Mine arrived this afternoon BUT after a number of failed attempts to get a perfect fit I think I might need to give the screen protector a wash
Does anyone have any tips on the best way to wash the screen protector before I try to reapply it (I suspect that flinging it in the washing machine isn't considered a good move )
I am waiting for my ultra-clear, i beg on my knees somebody with a "BRANDO deployment certification" to kindly explain the process so that i avoid to put my self-confidence at stake!

Enter: The best screen protector ever!

Clarivue Anti-Glare Screen Protector
It's solid, reusable and has a matte finish so it doesn't reflect anything! It's also scratchproof and, best of all, dirt cheap!
http://www.clarivue.com/detailx.asp?key=Screen_Protector_PDA_HTC_Touch_HD
You get 2 per packet. I just got mine in the post today and it's far better than the Martin Fields one I had on before
tbh if screen protectors really are good, they come one in a packet. With lifetime warranty.Like the cp armour one i got off ebay for £10
I hear what you're saying but trust me when I say this one is everything I've said it is. I'm so happy with it
LOL this is starting to sound like an infomercial
I think I got the CP armour one as well but I didn't like that it was rubbery and could only be used once (if we're talking about the same product, that is)
Better than the stock screen protector?
Since day 1 I have had the original screen protector on my Touch HD. It does work well, but it smudges so easy! I am reluctant to use another one because the factory shield looks so good when it's clean, and I have it placed perfectly on the screen. Asiede from the circle around the front camera, you can't even tell that it is there.
How does the Clarivue protector look regarding it's size and shape? Is it a perfect fit?
Do you not find that when its sunny you cant read the clarivue one?yes the cp armor one is use once,Although that is the idea of lifetime warranty?you should only need 1.I know the clarivue's come in a 2 pack but why?if they have lifetime warranty?
This is absolutely the best screen protector - tested!!!

I have the brightness set to auto
I think the point about getting 2 per case is in case you're a noob at installing them and get finger prints all over the stickier side of it
As for the size, it's not an exact fit, leaving a maximum of 0.5mm space around the protector

Matte screen protectors on a phone are TERRIBLE. I had the Proporta one and it make the crystal sharp screen appear to be speckled and unattractive. I had another OEM one from HTC and it is MUCH better, although it does scratch easily. I"ll be replacing it soon, but the one I replace it with must be crystal clear.

To each his own. I had a clear one and, no doubt it was nice, but the two main issues I had with it were that every tiny little scratch was magnified when the screen was on, it reflected EVERYTHING, and it wasn't as smooth when sliding my finger across the screen
I'll admit the matte protector will inevitably mean you will lose some of the screen's sharpness but that's not that big an issue for me because it actually looks quite good and hides any possible 'blemishes' in the user interface
try search for EXiM SPOC Screen Protector - HTC Touch HD (T8282) in EBAY..
i bought 1 but it's on the way..
I'm using it for my Nikon LCD.. very nice... perfect cut..
i think for touch hd also will be the same
regarding the clear coat protectors they are nice but terrible to use your finger to move around a weboage. try highlighting something with the stylus, its HARD because the stylus "sinks" in to the plastic. they are not good for TOUCH screens.
EDIT: comment removed I need more testing...
i got the the Ultra Clear and it's not green... the green part is the seal that comes on top of the actual screen protector.. once you peal the sticky side and apply it to the screen ... just peal the front side and all is ultra clear!
I bought a Boxwave - the one that cuts glare, not the clear one.
I like how it cuts the glare and fingerprints but it also cut the fantastic screen quality. It sort of looks "crystally" if that make sense!
I'm thinking to get a clear one for a better view at the expense of glare.
Does the clear one also stop finger prints too?
I've been using Zagg's invisible shields since i first got a Touch and I can't fault them. They can be tricky to put on but I found out this is one of the wife's skills. She just installed the one on my new touch HD yesterday and as usual it's great.
I will never understand this company!
Tell me dear friends why cant we buy from HTC a new original screen protectors? why we have to look for a bad replacement?
we bought the most expensive phone on the market and HTC doesnt count us!
and another Q
who is the IDIOT in HTC that put the reset button inside the phone?
and why we cant get a back cover with a small hole in it ,from HTC to fix this idiotic mistake.
Hello guy`s watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSlx8K89PZQ
I think Clear-Coat make the best protectors!
I'm using Best Skin Ever...the DIY kind for my digicam, ppc, pmp, - so far it has served me well. Bought it in 2005 for my ppc and there's plenty still today to go around for more devices. The latest is for the HD - no scratches when using stylus or finger or nails.
Get a set of 3 (free shipping globally) and you can cut to size for any thing you want to put it on.
I just received an extremely professional install from Zagg (Invisible Shield) for $10.
I had to send it in however boy was it worth it.
I could never after many, many tries have gotten the quality that I just got.
$10 was not bad for no hassle.
I have a backup phone I used for a few days while it was gone.

Its not as easy as it sounds, you have to go through the back of the case, your gonna need a torqx 5/6 screwdriver minimum, i dropped mine due to a slight accident. short version, dont drink rum and try to flip your phone looking cool to check the time.
took about 25 minutes to get the phone stripped down fully to replace the screen (replaced the case too, but the screen repair alone requires the strip down)
now i have a nice white x10i

didnt crack screen
I too thought I had cracked my screen cause I dropped it in a parking lot, I was rocking it naked in the rain, lucky for me the cheap rear cover came in handy as it poped off and the battery fell out of the phone the second it hit the ground so it survived with only a few scrapes and what I thought was a hairline crack that that ran down the top of the screen. so i lived with it till i recently got the inspire 4g and gave my girl my x10 but b4 i gave it to her i decided to rip off that old and scrapped factory screen protector and put on a shinny new one along with a few covers to hide my clumsiness and low and behold the screen was PERFECT not a scratch on it. The crack turned out to be nothing more than a very deep scrape in the screen protect that caused the screen to look cracked.
moral of the story is always check to make sure it is really cracked. those factory screen proctors are strong!!!(and a bit of a pain to remove.)

from my point of view it would make no sense to produce the glass with ugly black bezels if they would have completely invisible adhesive for application on the screen.
I've brought this one.
It's got huge bezels (the same as the official). If you can live with that great.
It lasted 5 minutes on mine before losing part of my screen annoyed me too much.

Out of interest are you using a screen protector at all? If so which one? I've tried the Orzly (rainbow effect and dust) and also the Nilkin (full adhesion but big gaps) trying to find a happy medium really. I'm currently without a protector but using the Otterbox casing.

I'm not sure how you applied yours but I'm now into 3+ weeks with a Orzly and have had neither of the issues you mention, never did. I couldn't be more please with the Orzly protector especially at that price and still having a second one when the first eventually degrades. I used the application recommendation posted in that protectors thread. I personally could not tolerate a protector that reduced the visible screen for what ever reason.
Update: A spec of dust has gotten under the cover. Too bad as I still like the protector for its feel and protection but the spec of dust is dam annoying.

Try to find a company in Poland that provides "virtual" address in UK and after that delivers the goods in your country. I receive goods from UK in Bulgaria for only 1 EUR (when under 1 kg.) - it is very convinient.

Best of a bad bunch
This doesn't look very case compatible. Is anyone able to comment on this?
Very good tempered glass!
Sorry my english isnt perfect. Mine is come yesterday. I used a lot of others, but they where all disappointing in some way. (black turned into dark grey because of bad transparency and "sharp" edges) This one isnt case friendly I guess, because it protects the complete front.
+ true black colors
+ 2.5D (is quite cool for edge-smoothness)
+ easy to clean
- it isnt the thinnest glass
- makes bigger edges left/right
When you buy it make sure you buy the right one. It must be "Automatic Adsorption" version. They also sell another product where you get 2pcs of screen protectors (without automatic adsorption!).

Any chance to try it with a bumber ? Sounds like a better option than the orzly tgsp but I'll need my bumper to work with it

I've got an original sandstone backcase and I think it will fit. Mine don't fit totally because it gets stretched by the skin I have on my oneplus. :/ But otherwise I think it will fit probably
Tip : amazon will give you the money back if you have problems with it and you mustn't send it back.
I just installed this tgsp and it's amazing. Very happy with it.
It's full glue. The main drawback is the bezel. But I'm used to it.
PS: it fits perfectly with the sandstone case from OnePlus

When you say the main drawback is the bezel, do you mean the bezel cuts off a small portion of the screen at the edges? Like if you were to boot into the bootloader, you can immediately see if the text is being cut off at the sides.

Yes it's exactly what I wanted to say. But you get used to it.

Included screen protector (T-Mobile)

Out the box my phone screen protector has a nice scratch on it it also has a rainbow effect to it... How's everyone's screen protector looking? Smooth and clear?

Mine has the same effect. Honestly I'm wondering if I should just rip it off totally.
Oh I'm definitely going to rip it off just waiting reviews on some glass screen protectors

Same. Think the rainbow effect is due to it being fingerprint resistant. (Not that it actually works well!)
Mine looks good in the trash where I put it after taking it off, the screen is GG 6.

I usually leave mine on any phone that ships with it installed.
However, once it starts showing its age/peeling/dirt collects around the edges,I peel it off faster that a Band-Aid.
The most I go with afterwards is one of those liquid sealers.
However,I've skipped that (liquid sealer) on my Note 9 & its holding up just fine (GG5),still has a the same slick feeling as it did out of the box & not a scratch/ding to be found anywhere.
My 1st extensive usage of screen protectors was with the Motorola Photon & a Zagg orange rind that they marketed as a screen protector.
I kept it on for a long time (had it installed in-store @ Best Buy),finally removed it once it got dog-eared & haven't used a screen protector since, (that wasn't pre-installed from the factory).
Perhaps I'd use one if a was one of those people that seem to drop their phone on a daily basis,or,a work environment deemed it necessary, but, even then,I'd probably just use a $200-$300 phone & not worry about it.
I usually do get a full body kit (clear or matte) from Skinomi, but, just use the back protection & toss the rest.
I'm not even going that route this time, got an OEM OnePlus 6T Sandstone Case on the way & that's it:

I never use screen protectors but honestly the only reason i I took this one off so soon was I'm using the gesture navigation and that screen protector whenever you swiped up from the bottom you could feel the edge of it.
I also ordered the OnePlus Sandstone, that's the style case I run on all my phone's. I usually get the Spigen Thin Fit case.

I have 3 scratches on mine out of the box as well. I ended up just taking the screen protector off. As suggested the phone does have gorilla glass 6, I figure it'll be fine this way.
Haven't used one in years, no visible scratches over that period either. I'm an old man so my phones don't go through much of a struggle during their journey in my hands but I still cant help but feel the concern over screen protectors might not be fully warranted. In any event mine will be off along with the rest of the plastic when it comes out of the box.
When I opened the box my screen protector was in mint condition. I even told them at the store when I picked up to leave the box sealed and I'll set it up when I get to my house.

The screen protector on it is garbage.. just from my fingernails I have scratches so end up pulling it off.. totally useless protector.
Mine started to peelup. Took it off.

Mine was fine, although I've only kept it on because of how well it came. I really don't like the plastic feel and am currently looking for a tgsp.
mine was garbage, took it off to apply an xtremeguard tgsp against my own good judgement, and the tgsp was garbage too - didn't cover the whole screen. Now I'm SP-free and the screen feels much nicer!

Mine too, also from T-Mobile. I've only had it a week, so we'll see how it goes. Like many others I've found that it does collect a huge amount of dust!
