[Q] New to NT , Anyway to root without SD ? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Just played with it today and already feeling very limited . So came right here to XDA to root / install custom rom.
Many tutorials seems to be based on using SD card, i dont own one right now , I have a microSD card for my Xperia X10 , but its currently in use and has data/apps in it , so i cant format it . Is there a way to root / install CWM / Install CM 7 without SD card ?
Also if I am to buy a microSD card , which one to get ? i mean i am not going to store videos on my NT , so will a 4GB be sufficient ?and what class should i buy ?
Also why is it taking long time to charge from laptop / USB ? I cant use wall charger for now , since i dont have a converter yet. is there a way after rooting / installing CM7 to better the USB charging ?

If you don't have an SD card to work with, you could get root with this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487
Flash CWM with this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458630
And download CM7 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826
Everything would be done internally.
As for the USB charging, it seems you're stuck with the slow charging until you get the adapter.

Cant able to install TGPS_installer.apk , it says "For security reason ,this installtion is blocked .. Blah Blah Blah..."

Oh, didn't know what version you were on. This method does not require you to format your SD card, but you'll need to use it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583

Using a new SDCard (not one you have info stored on) make a new MSDOS partition table and add a 50 MB FAT32 partition as the first primary partition. Then make sure you enable to boot and lda flags.

But here it says to create a partition using gparted , IIRC after doing all partition , Gprated will erase the card and do the partition from the beginning ..
I have linux mint 12 as dual boot , I can use it there for partitioning.
Thanks a mil for helping me out

If your only gonna keep books and magazines then a 4gb card should suffice.. Movies and games will need a bigger card.. I got a 16 gb transcend class 10 from flipkart for Rs.1600.. its decent for that money.. oh and if you plan to run cm7 from externel sd card, you should know, the image itself is 4gb..

Have you reclaimed the B&N reserved space ?
Also which converter are you using for power supply ?

Bro there are a lot of fakes when it comes to microsd's . Since I got my Transcend 8 gig class 6 everything roars perfectly. And it's not a fake thank god .
Usually microsd's should have a C E on the back of it , which you can't see unless you open the package. 2nd you gotta check OEMID , Serial number OEM nr .
My teamgroup 8 gig class 6 had no valid OEMID and no C E inscription on it's back, thus a fake .
You can also test if it's a fake off the bat if the SD card doesn't meet the minimum write speeds of it's according class .

Problem with Second Boot on SD

Hi all, I have a problem. I bought a 32gb class 4 MicroSD card last year which I used on my Nook Tablet. After hating (really hating) the B&N rooted/custom launcher experience, I decided it was mandatory for me to install a custom ROM on it if only to learn how to install custom ROMs. Before I took the plunge, however, I found that it was possible to have a second boot on my SD card and boot CM7, so I didn't have to flash over the stock ROM (I was scared i'd break the tablet). Anyhow, after having a much better experience on CM7, I decided to flash CM9 on my Motorola Defy (wasn't easy) and was so amazed at how beautiful it was I knew I had to have it on my Nook. I flashed CM9 on emmc on my Tablet and it was so amazing I didn't put my CM7 card back in, ever.
After this, though, CM9 expired (of course, I didn't know it would) and when I went and tried to boot CM7, cyanoboot just wouldn't boot from it and now I can only access my SD card's emmc (I think, it's where the CM7 OS is). Now I have CM9 working again but I still can't use my SD card because when I tried to re partition using EASEUS it just won't recognize the card. I really don't know what to do now, I can't restore my SD card to how it was before double boot because I can't access any partition and the only thing I can do is look at the android 200mb partition.
Any thoughts?
You didn't mention that you do have a "external card reader". Hmm, if you can... use an 'external reader', then use 'SDFORMATTER ver. 3.1' .
.
What does your cell phone say about the card ? Can the phone format the card ?

WTH? How did I not think of that :silly:
My card is up and running on my nook after formatting it on my moto defy. I would've liked to backup some info but no biggie. Thank you!
PS: I was using my laptop card reader to see my card but I couldn't access any partition on EASEUS, but I shouldn't have despaired.

[Q] Like SD-Card but not SD-Card

hey,
thanks to sirkey's xkernel and flykernel we have OTG working fine on RAY!!
Here's my question
1)Is it possible to unmount sd card and mount flash drive as sd-card ??
2)if (1) is possible , is it possible to boot without sd and mount flash drive as sd ???
Because i need to play games on my ray , but i dont have enough space on sd, so if above is possible then i can run games with flash drive inserted !!!
For admin:
{after receiving answers, i will convert this thread to ( [TIP] ) if it really works }
Even it is possible, using OTG too much will result over-heating on USB chip.
But still worth of it right !!!!
I may not more than half an hour.....
Or a movie !!

I'm pretty sure I watched some movies off my 64gb usb stick to test this function.
However, the point has already been made - doing this regularly probably isn't very good for the device.
Just buy a 32gb SD card, it really is quite a lot of memory!
I have also read that some 64gb sd cards work on the Ray.

Micro SD card problems formatting

Hello ,
I guess i ****ed up my microSD card .
I had one 16 Gb A-data microSD card and for whatever reason , i try to format for APP2SD , that special partition, ext 3 or whatever .
But... not just i was not able to make it work , but when i tried to make it the way it was before ... it was stucked or seems to be a ireversible process.
I tried different methods but not one seems to work . I got to make a mention that the card was working just fine before i had that stupid idea.
No matter what , now windowx is showing to have only 1gb capacity, but... when i tried to format that 1 gb , everytime it fails.
flashnull , HPUSBDisk, SDFormatter, MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, linux Gparted , every single tool i was thinking of was useless.
You guys are my last hope .
Thanks in advance for your help ...
Actually, the more you format it, the more harm you make, because sd cards are very sensitive when it comes to formatting them. I've successfully killed my 4gb microsd that way

so , i understand that is NO solution to this problem ?!
Well, as far as I know, no, but I might be wrong as well

How to make system backup. Amlogic S802.

Hello friends!!
I have bought MX III 4K HD Quad Core 2+8G Android 4.4 Smart TV BOX KODI (XBMC) Bluetooth 4.0
Build number 115k4
Kernel version 3.10.33 Oman
XBMC ver. 14.1
I have the following problem: then I'm trying to make system backup on SD, it happening veeeery slowly (freezing on many components like org.xbmc.android, com.google.android.googlequickseachbox), I was trying 1gb, 8gb class 10, 32 gb class 4 ... .with FAT 32 , extFat, ext3 ... "works" only with extFat. On FAT32 BACKUP & RESTORE crashed to desktop. Last time i wait about 30 minutes - eventually it makes 1 gb file, and went to the desktop at the end !! From system which takes about 5 gb ...
Copying files in ES manager to SD happened very slowly too, about 1 mb / sek.
wtf ????
Hi what are you using to do the back up have you tried this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.app.managerfree&hl=en

Actually i made backup via TWRP, on internal memory. I think sd reader broken...
Thanks.
Oh sorry dude I misunderstood you,That does sound like a very slow transfer speed have you tried another sd card just to rule it out

2, to specify a location for the backup, quite simple
