Good news from the ICS ATT SGSII front (Better news for Skyrocket) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

RootzWiki has broken news that they have a leaked official 4.0 for the ATT SGSII Skyrocket.
Interesting fact: build date is March 14.
Good news for us... I can only hope so. Just wanted to share this little tidbit with the SGSII world.

The skyrocket isn't anything like our I777. This doesn't help at all.

Don't hate just to hate.

just how I said a months ago, Skyrocket and Vivid are getting ICS before the i777, the source release helped but still not a fully functional.

And we're already aware the ****rocket got an ICS leak that was useless to us. Thus this thread is useless because it's redundant - the OP is yet another person who broke the XDA rules and posted without searching. The ****rocket ICS leak has already been discussed numerous times in other threads, it is NOT news and does NOT justify creating yet another new thread so that you can get "omg I have my own thread on XDA!!!" cred.
We're about a week out of kernel sources, and we already have ICS in a better state than that leak. The only things that remain are polishing and NFC, and the polishing part would be required even if we'd gotten official ICS at the same time as the I9100 - it simply takes time to do a proper kernel on a new source base for a completely new Android base.
NFC may require an official I777 ICS release, or maybe just a bit of hacking to get the M250S/K stuff working on I777. If I can get the M250 stuff working on I777, there's a good chance I can get it working on CM9 at that point too.

Redundant thread is redundant.
Closed thread is closed.

Froyo is out!!! Can we fix little problems now with DEV ROMS?

Just as the title says...Can we now?
Which problems? This build is the same ED01 build we found a few days ago.
Doubt it will make a huge difference. Its nearly the same as EC01.

He's just asking a simple question. No need to answer that way.
Yes, it IS true that there probably isn't MUCH of a difference between this and EC01...
However, this is what I was waiting on to update my ROM, personally, so I will be doing this in the next few days. As for what other developers would like to do, that is a personal choice, they may simply not see any reason to and won't.
So besides those like me who make the choice to do anything with it, you probably won't see anything happen. Just keep in mind that just because it is official doesn't really make it any better than what we have at this moment. I haven't explored it yet, but that is my opinion on the matter.

When the OP cannot understand simple forum rules I see no reason to censor comments made towards him *edit* unless the intention is to "flame" said user.
This is a question, not a ROM or anything being DEVELOPED and it has no place here.
Now say if this were asked in Q and A I would see your reasoning at being a little harsh.

also most people want aosp,cm fixes and this will not help them, the stuff they want fixed is tied to tw which had been stated hundreds of times.
SC2.9.2 Voodoo Eclipse
Something to that effect (Touchwiz source doesn't help AOSP so much) should honestly be stickied to the top of the development forum, although I doubt that would help that much anyway with the type of people who post these threads...
People don't remember how long it took for JT to even get a good Eclair AOSP build working. I think it's somewhat clear that Samsung's releases are not terribly useful for AOSP ROMs.

Sorry I just think it's a little rude to post this in the Development forum is exclamation points and CAPS!!! It came off very "ugh why do these dev roms have so many problems can we just get them fixed? GAWD!"...to me. I am not a developer but I am very aware that it is not nearly as simple to do what they do as some people seem to think. Maybe I over reacted a little, but that type of attitude pisses me off.

Dont want an official release if it's going to be as bad as the sgs2 ICS ;-)

What about my comment would suggest I don't think Samsung should do an official release? I'm just fed up with the whining. What's the point? It doesn't get us any closer to working camera drivers, and it's just mucking up the forum (which wouldn't be such a big deal if the mods would occasionally delete nonsense threads like this....).
BTW- for others thinking maybe Samsung reads these forums: they don't. XDA is (well, it was...) for power-users and devs. We are a tiny fraction of the customer base, and (if you know anything about the business) pretty unimportant. This isn't an insult; it's honesty.
Also, if you want a reason to be angry at Samsung, consider the way the workers in the factories are treated. You think Samsung treats you bad? Try being one of the young women that build the components in the factories, or the people who live nearby and can't drink the water from their own well... You've got it pretty good. You'll get ICS, stop whining on XDA. (BTW- this is directed at the OP, not Jay).

Wait, slack isn't it Apple factory who has it THAT bad? I'm pretty sure all the news headlines were directing it at apple. Samsung does treat it's people a bit better compared to apple.
I don't see how the release can be any different? I thought ICS was supposed to be, "one general OS for all devices" which mean's only minor changes need to be made to adjust to the platform it will be installed on as they already have all the official driver's ahead of time before release. Problem is they pamper the new devices and focus on them that they leave devices like GTab, in the dark.
I've quit anticipating the ICS release with Samsung's horrible "Survival of the fittest" stunt they pulled on which will and will not get the ICS update, no compensation pack was offered aswell despite their promise.

Is ics almost here?

I just went to check whether an update is released (I was bored) and It said "an update is available for your phone, but the servers are busy." What do you guys think this means? There's a thread on this for the skyrocket too...

This thread is useful for two reasons.
1. Samsung hasn't officially released a date yet and there really hasn't been a word on a Google search as to whether or not ICS has been released for the AT&T Galaxy S2.
2. Not everyone prefers the modified versions of the ROM, and though there is bloat on the AT&T versions, not everyone's incredibly satisfied with the custom ROM's (I am personally, but yeah, not everyone's down for the custom ROM's).
3. If the official ICS did come out, it can provide something or another to make the current custom ROM's better, such as the ability to get Google Wallet (or ISIS) working, for example.
I appreciate that this is a forum for developers, but that still doesn't allow us to flame every new thread that comes on here that's not created by one of the elite or something or another >.>

Dude. When ICS hits it hits. And if u can't find anything on Google about ics release dates or possible release dates u aren't searching right. Either way when it does drop u go right ahead and flash that buggy bloated OS. I'll stick with my AOKP.

Oh you're right about this being a developers forum but you're completely wrong about the assumptions that only "elite" members can post. You're about as wrong as humanly possible. We only yell at people for threads like these because it does NOT help any developer in any way and this question gets asked over and over again all in separate threads which bog down the forums an leave less room for the more legitimate questions/ posts. And once you've been on here a while you usually know when you should post a thread or when you shouldn't. I've created a total of 2 threads and only one of them was a thread asking a question (the other was for a pair of cm7 themes) and I made sure it hadn't been asked before. Understand a little better?

I am with you on how this i777 should behave and tone down but you list 3 reasons that I think useless, or should I say "non-productive", here's why
1. If you google/search and find nothing, you MUST think, I mean automatically think, that it is either NOT NOW or NEVER happen. Just like when you search a word and it isn't in the dictionary, you should automatically know that the word is not exist or not being defined yet.
2. custom ROM is for who love to flash, if ones don't want to flash, why would they come here in first place? Moreover, if AT&T decide to release their OFFICIAL ICS for this i777, the owners would get the update automatically, right? Then why stop here anyway
3. If the official ICS did come out? if so, then search/google in step one already yield some results.

Do YOU think we'll get ICS 4.1 "Jelly Bean"?

Hello,
Simple question:
Do you think we guys with our evo'S will ever get the 4.1-Android "the official way"?
idk what you guys have it with "official", our devs work hard to give us unofficial stuff and i think we should appreciate that more.
i'd love to see a JB unofficial (if even) for our htc evo 3d gsm.
No.

Sprints already given up on the 3D, I'm going to say no.
Nope, we will never ever see an official JB Update.
Short answer....absolutely not
At this point we will be lucky to see ICS 4.0.
A 4.1 JB Official release is a pipe dream, not going to happen.
Lord, not another one of these "do you guys think we'll get," threads.

I see ICS on my 3devo every day, thanks to the developers. ;-)
I don't think we'll see an official JB OTA, but I really hope we see an ICS OTA and source release. If we get the updated kernel source, XDA will produce a JB daily driver.
there have been over 15 threads in this one section on the same question in the last 3 days. hmmmm interesting.
ICS and JB seem to be similar to each other that ud hope it could just be upgraded without much work... but you forget that most of us are now running Sense 3.6 and that would have to be worked on as well. given that only this device a few others even have sense 3.6 the answer is clearly that ..
it will never occur.
im sure project butter and even 90 percent JB roms will be made... if anyones working on it, hope they speak up
Well hopefully everyone that's thinking of creating another thread like this will be able to comprehend the answer is "NO" (In Our Opinion), and be able to resist. Cuz seriously, these type threads just clutter things up for everyone, and help no-one.
No offense to OP.

No debating that fact, this was just a simple post about something relevant to the device being FINALLY made available. If I thought it would be responsible for some development breakthrough, I would have put it in the dev forum..no wait, that's for development..so I is just a general piece of information...but wait it's in general..
The ongoing problem, not just here, but rampant everywhere, is people feel empowered to be jerks because they have some grand illusion of themselves being elite. The post was general information, in the general section, for the specific device, there was no need for the snarky remarks. It's just another shining example of how much things have changed around here, and not for the better.
Last time I checked, XDA didn't have a rule that stated that only information deemed relevant to MotoMudder77 and Nick281051 may be posted in the General Section. To Phalanx7621's point, many people are looking upward and onward to JB, but it is going to be awhile before we see a fully stable JB build, as many of the ICS build still have quirks. Maybe this can help, maybe it won't, but how about we leave it up to the actual rom developers to decide.
Red5 can you just lock this thread before it get's out of hand. Thanks.

I know right. Kernels are never really CRITICAL unless there is a bad driver incompatibility or something of that nature. Look at something like my old Atrix, the ICS builds are still struggling due to a lack of drivers.
Actually this is very useful. Although we know it's there we can finally see the brickbug in the flesh. It's often useful to do a full source tree compare to see if there is anything 'interesting' left out between i9000 and i777.

Maybe this can help, maybe it won't, but how about we leave it up to the actual rom developers to decide.
Red5 can you just lock this thread before it get's out of hand. Thanks.

What quirks does ics have? We only needed i9100 source. This will lead to no "developmental breakthrough"

I agree with OP, this is information relevant to our device and so belongs in the general section. If someone feels it isn't, be civil about it. Politely state your opinion and leave the thread. There's no reason to carry a bad attitude about it.

Yeah, it was only useful to figure out whether UCLE5 was dangerous.
Some users determined that the hard way for us.

The bad blood of some of the posters is an awful ingredient for a good community.
The elitism is discouraging and the arrogance poisoning.
You know that if a thread seems useless to you, why post and give it relevance? Let it die and it will truly reach irrelevance. There's no further point for a thread that went to oblivion (aka page 5+).
To me it reeks of immaturity and arrogance, and a huge lack of perspective on the world, internet forums and life in general.
This could have little to no value to most/all devs, but what's the need to state it over and over again. This thread has few insightful responses and they come from real devs like Entropy.
If you have never developed a single non-trivial program, how can you be so fast to judge a source code that you won't even download, read or understand? As Entropy stated, at least this gives us some insight on the brick f--k up. Too bad we could not gather it non-empirically.
}
Sorry for the rant.
