[Q] Is my phone standard? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've been jailbreaking iphones since they came out but have switched to android now so I'm a noob again!
I bought a new S2 on ebay (sealed) but I'm not sure it's standard UK, I've attached 2 screen grabs.
Could someone please tell me if my phone is rooted? (the [email protected] is what got me thinking)
In case attachments don't work:
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKH1-CL431225 [email protected] #2
Also:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
And is it possible for me to ugrade to ICS?
I've tried researching here and other websites. Odin is clearly the way to go and I see lots of XXK** and other 5 digit codes which i guess are region/Firmware specific but mine don't seem to match any of these??
Any help much appreciated.

Pretty standard stuff. XEU stands for UK Unbranded. Firmware is an old one though. Follow links in my signature to proceed. ICS has been released though we are still waiting for a unbranded UK version. Enjoy.
Sent from my GT-I9100

Dell is the name of the system on which this kernel was made. It is currently not rooted.
Sent from my GT-I9100

Yeah, Linux formats things as "username"@"computer". Samsung just compile their kernels logged in as root.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA

I looks like you have a standard build.
If you really want to check whether your phone is rooted or not, try downloading the "superuser" app from the market (sorry, "Google Play").
If your phone isn't rooted, it'll tell you.

I have been reading in various places that XEU is a Polish version, is that correct? I'm a bit confused as to whether I have UK or Polish version - should be looking at XEUKH1 or XEUKH1 ??
Thanks

For the CSC part, you should be looking at I9100 XEU KH1; U+K is just a mere coincidence.
XEU is the code of the operator or the code of the "unbranded operator" - in my case I use "TPH" which is the unbranded csc for Portugal.
As for the token KH1:
K stands for the year - 2011 (ICS builds are from 2012 so they're L??)
H stands for the month - 11 or Nov (ICS builds have now been following this, though - e.g. LPQ, LP3, ...)
1 is an incremental number for multiple builds in the same month (also, sometimes letters are used)

Thanks.
So with these in mind for my phone:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
PDA - shows I am using Android version 2.3.4
PHONE - shows I have a phone designed to be used in the UK (XXKG5)??
CSC - shows I have an unbranded european phone??
Is that correct?
So if I upgrade my firmware to a stock UK one then all that would change above is PDA??
But if I upgraded to the Polish version of ICS how would that affect what *#1234#?

corype use
As far as i understand, installing any stock version minded for an EU phone should be the same. All they change is the language, however english should be present always.

I've got the same ROM images, and although I believe the XEU ICS has been released by Sammy yesterday, I'm (still) getting the "Your device does not support firmware upgrade" message from KIES.
I've done a hard reset of the phone, re-installed KIES with the latest version ( repeated on two PCs )...
Is there something funny about these ROM images?
Bought from Phones4U as an O2 Upgrade.
If I have to zap it using Odin, is there a way to save the existing ROM images?

[Q] Which firmware should I use for At&t

Hi All,
Sorry for the noob question, I recently got a SGS2, my first Android device. I'm currently on At&t in the US. I believe the phone is unlocked since it has the yellow triangle on boot up.
The phone currently has :
PDA: I9100XWKE7
Phone: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100XEUKD1
I would like to upgrade the phone to Andriod 2.3.4 and not wipe any data on the phone. Which PDA, Phone, and CSC firmware should I get?
Thanks for your time.

the yellow trianlge means that the phone is rooted! - in other words a custom software is installed in it.
what ROM?
answer---> what would you like? stock looking? - kitchen KH3, Cognition, vilian etc
custom?--->MIUI, CM7
themed?---->litening
and you can continue like this for long time...go to the original android development mate and check the procedure how to flash and how to use CWM i think u may have one installed if there is the yellow triangle...
then check ROM's and atached screenshots - read about thems bugs and problemss and pick one...dont be afraid u can change back or for another one anytime - but i will recomend you back up EFS folder first - there is a topic how to do so in original android thread.
i hope u will find your way
Thanks for the info Hunteres. I think I want to keep my phone stock, so I was wondering which firmware from Intratech's Official i9100 Firmwares thread I should get that would work on At&t. The phone is rooted and does have CWM installed when I bought it. When I upgrade to 2.3.4, do I need to upgrade the Phone: I9100XXKE4 and CSC: I9100XEUKD1 also?
Firmware
Get the KG5 firmware. I have been using that for a few weeks on ATT USA and its perfect. Battery life is also excellent. I have an unlocked from Clove in the UK.

Any rom can be used on any carrier.
If you are getting poor signal or data speed try a different modem, there is also a thread dedicated to getting the correct AT&T apn.

is the KG5 more perfect than the KG3?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
KG3 - HAS VIDEO for Google Voice - This is the only plus - some apps do not work.
KG5 - much better battery life - all apps work - very solid build, no crashes or freezes.

Thanks for all the info. Would KH3 firmware be better than KG5 since it's newer? Do I need to upgrade my current baseband firmware and CSC firmware when I upgrade to a new kernel?

[Q] Looking for the orginal stock firmware that came with my Virgin Mobile UK S2.

Hi,
I'm desperately looking for the stock firmware that came with my phone that I got from Virgin UK back in Novemeber 2011 as I foolishly flashed the Non-UK ICS the other day without making a note of the revision I already had.Kies then didn't recognise my phone. I've installed a CPW (Carphone Warehouse) ROM for now as I know it supports the Virgin network but I know for a fact that wasn't the same one that was originally on the phone. As when it was connected to Kies, I specifically remember there was a lot of X's in the string displayed as well as an XEU at the end (I think). The CPW ROM string doesn't have either. Basically I believe I had some sort of unbranded UK firmware that was also supported by Kies for future downloads but when looking on FUS I can't find anything from the UK except branded fimware and the CPW one.
I've learnt my lesson but would really like my phone back to it's original state before the official UK ICS update becomes available on Monday. So if anybody currently has a unmodified Virgin Mobile from around that time could they please point me in the right direction in terms of the Gingerbread version revision number they currently have?
Thanks in advance guys. I'm new so please have a little patience.
You can use the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google) to determine what firmware came with your phone, then search for same on Samfirmware.com.
Thanks. But as I said, I've already tried searching on FUS. And can't seem to find any of the ones I'm looking for. Also all the Intratech links on the sister thread don't seem to be working anymore. Almost as if the site Multiupload.com has been shut down?
I'm ideally looking for firmwares such as these:
PDA: I9100XWKF3,
PHONE: I9100XXKE7,
CSC: I9100XEUKD1
PDA: I9100XWKI4
PHONE: I9100XXKI1
CSC: I9100XEUKH2
Why these? Because I now know these are what come with Virgin UK contracted phones from around the same time. I finally only found this out a few minutes ago via a Virgin Media forum and seeing what people where posting. And if I'm 100% honest, it's the bottom one that's looking the more "familiar" to me before I started messing with my phone.
Again, thatnks for any help offered. Much appreciated.
Re-read the last 7 words of my post Actually, read the whole thing again. Particular emphasis on the last 7 words.
A simple method would be to wait for Virgin to update the firmware and download via Checkfus .
I doubt if the ICS upgrade on Monday will be any roms bar stock .
In which case even with original firmware Kies has no update for you .
jje
This is original virgin mobile information which i saved before messing around with ics roms. My galaxy S2 is only 3 months old from virgin here in he uk!
Hope It Helps!

Thanks MistahBungle. I have and niether of those packages are listed on the site. JJ yeah I've got the same feeling to be honest. It seems to be the generic European firmware that I had the same as Ezy's. I actuallyy think I've installed this a couple of times via FUS and Odin but always seem to get the "your device cannot update from Kies" message though. Strange as I never had it when it was originally installed. Just "this is the latest firmware". Chaotic! lol
Update: It's worked! I installed Ezy's XEU one last time. I forgot to do a cache wipe before and aftewards on previous tries. It's back to it's original state and no upgrade error message in Kies. Thanks again for helping me out guys.
So JJ, come Monday when UK ICS gets released you recommend not downloading it from anywhere and waiting about 6 months for Virgin to get there act together?

Personally i would not bother as long as i had a copy of old Virgin firmware in case of warranty . I would just install a stock UK firmware with CPW CSC if possible once UK ICS is released if i was of a mind to go down the ICS route .

Ok thanks. I'll bare that in mind as I don't intend to go through all of this ever again. :-\

Need help correcting CSC & Firmware

Background
Back in June/July when I was attending my friend's wedding in the states I bought a GT-i9100 off eBay while I was there (I live in the UK). Came with Gingerbread installed at 2.3.4. I knew there was a 2.3.5 available and possibly even ICS so I tried an OTA update. ~EDIT: I just remembered the other reason I wanted to update was that the screen had a yellow tinge and other some users were saying updating the phone fixed that for them.~ Nothing. Looked around the web, found out you need to do it via KIES and that there was indeed an ICS update for the GS2. Phone wouldn't connect to KIES so I did some more looking around in case there was a known problem but I also came to the realisation that my phone might be from a region where it wasn't released.
It turned out to have originally been bought in Hong Kong (the previous owner left some family photos and company documents on it too). I should have realised sooner when the phone had chinese as a secondary keyboard language. I identified the CSC as ZSKI3 and lo and behold Hong Kong wasn't getting ICS for the GS2.
Did some poking around and got confused by the conflicting or rather inconsistency between guides to change the CSC. Somehow followed followed one guide and put on XWLP7 (I believe this is open Europe. But I think I only flashed the ROM (PDA). I ended up with ICS but there have been minor niggles whilst using it which I think might be caused by something being mismatched between the firmware, kernal and rom.

Problem
I believe I'm suffering some problems with my GS2 because I flashed just the PDA to ICS and now there might be some conflicts going on between it and the firmware/kernal.
I would like to correct the CSC, ROM, firmware and kernal to open Europe or some other open CSC which you believe to be better.
I understand that I got myself into this mess and don't expect you to take the time to give detailed instructions.

Ok, i did very much the same thing as you. Ok probably no. I brought mine oversea not ebay. However i live in Australia. But the phone was stock from asia. I wanted try flash and play with different roms. Blah blah.
What you need to do is have a data cable like one you were trying to use with Kies. Now you need to see if you can get into odin mode ( from an off phone position, hold down vol down + home key while turning on the phone.) This feature as far as i know is for all android phones. And is one feature you cant break, flash or change. ( note, if ya cant get to odin mode, you have yourself a brick, screwed or stuffed or wat word deem appropriate? )
If all above is working. Goto http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 somewhere in the mid of that page is some field you need to put in. Pick your phone model, and the country you are in or want the phone to set in. Down load the file. And follow the odin guide which i am not typing out. You can google it with full pictures And video eye candy.
Good luck.

[Q] Attempted to unbrick after rooting and failed, help?

About a month back maybe two I attempted to root by S2 using several guides on this site. I managed to **** it up and brick the phone, shortly after I managed to unbrick it and flash back what i thought was the correct stock firmware.
At first I noticed several small differences in the OS, the contacts list didn't show up in the phone app. As well as these small differences I also have been experiencing an issue where the phone would just turn off and the only fix would be to remove the battery and reboot.
I have no idea how to go about finding and putting back the correct firmware on to my S2. I looked at several sites that host the many many stock firmwares but was afraid to try incase it screwed up the phone even more. I tried connecting it to Samsungs Kies but that informed me that a factory restore was not compatible with my phone.
I don't really care about having a rooted phone anymore, I just want to get back to the stock firmware with my phone fully working again.

Unless you had to perform JTAG connection or replace motherboard your device was not "bricked". Its likely you simply flashed incorrect kernel/rom resulting it device not booting to system.

So if i download:
United Kingdom (Three/3)
GT-I9100LKAH3G
PDA: I9100XXLPQ
CSC: I9100H3GLP2
Phone: I9100NELP2
For my unlocked S2 which has a EE/T-Mobile sim, I'll be fine?
I've tried the 4.0.3 T-Mobile and 3 4.0.3 and both have errors once installed.
I can't seem to find an unbranned UK 4.0.3 which is what mine was originally I think.
tried looking over here?
If you want unbranded go to sammobile.

[Q] Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i Flashing a stock firmware question/help!

Hello guys. Yes i'm a noob and i have tried desperately to find the info out myself but i'm getting myself SO confused, i hope someone can help me out a bit and clarify a few things for me.
I have a SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE GT-S5830i which is a United Kingdom model phone unlocked to all networks but it was getting very worn and tatty so i went out this morning and purchased a brand new SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE GT-S5830i phone (identical model) however this one came supplied as locked to the o2 network and is o2 branded on all the startup/shutdown screens.
I figured i could simply re-flash a stock firmware to it to lose all of the o2 branding and return it to the standard Samsung startup/shutdown screens (and possibly unlock the phone to all networks during the process but i'm not that bothered about doing that as it doesn't really matter to me)
On the handsets I have gone into SETTINGS> ABOUT PHONE> and the details are as follows:
Model Number: GT-S5830i
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: S5830iXXLK1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #1
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXLK3
...and these details are the same for both the old phone and the new o2 branded one.
Now then, here's where i'm at: when i do things i'm not only doing them to get to the 'end goal' but also to learn and educate myself along the way, but so much of the information out there assumes that you already know what they are talking about or is just too confusing as it doesn't explain enough. I have gotten myself very confused lol.
I want to be able to 'de-brand' the new phone so that it is just like the old one, and to do that i'd like to understand what i am doing a bit more, like the baseband version and build number (XXLK1 and XXLK3 are bpth quoted in the 'About Phone' menu) and i don't understand what file i should be downloading as all i can find is labelled as GT-S5830iXXLK3 so would this be the correct firmware for my handsets as i thought they were listed by Baseband (which is XXLK1 not XXLK3 but the bit in the phone's build number says XXLK3 even though the actual phone's Baseband says XXLK1) can you see why i am confused? lol!
I'd like to be as sure as i can be prior to flashing so i don't make any silly mistakes.
I have:
KIES software,
USB Drivers (i think)
ODIN v3.07 software,
Standard Samsung supplied USB cable,
Windows 7 32bit.
Can anyone help me to understand why the firmware sets are in several split files and help confirm which firmware i do actually need for the baseband type of my two handsets.
I'm also intending to make a backup of each phone prior to flashing so i hopefully do not brick any devices. Maybe i could even read the firmware of one phone and flash to the other? Perhaps i'll just stick to finding a suitable stock firmware and keep it simple
Any help, information, education is all appreciated, and i hope as a noob to the forum i haven't breached any set rules with this post (i don't think i have but you never know!)
Kindest regards,
Drew

Now then, here's where i'm at: when i do things i'm not only doing them to get to the 'end goal' but also to learn and educate myself along the way, but so much of the information out there assumes that you already know what they are talking about or is just too confusing as it doesn't explain enough. read my thread or signature.
I have loaded KIES and got some more information:
On the older SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE GT-S5830i (unlocked to all networks) it says: PDA:LK3 / PHONE: LK1 / CSC: LK1 (BTU)
On the newer SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE GT-S5830i (locked and branded o2) it says: PDA:LK3 / PHONE: LK1 / CSC: LK1 (O2U)
So clearly i can see the difference here between the new phone with it's o2 network branded firmware, and assume that the only thing i need to change over on the new phone is the CSC part, which ODIN looks like it can do by simply adding a new CSC file in.
Anyway, i went to the SamMobile Firmware site and have downloaded:
GT-S5830i - United Kingdom - BTU
PDA: S5830IXXLK3
CSC: S5830IBTULK1
Version: 2.3.6
Date: 2012-11-23
...which gives me a zip file named: S5830IXXLK3_S5830IBTULK1_BTU.zip
Here's where i just got more confused lol... the thread you pointed me to gets a bit confusing as lots of people are posting allsorts on it, but am i right in thinking once i have that file i just downloaded i go into ODIN v3.07 and just add that file into the PDA section and then untick all the boxes? This seems a bit different to some of the other Odin instructions i have read where they say tick certain boexes and do this, do that etc...
This way seems to be involving reflashing the PDA, and PHONE sections maybe? Am i not just wanting to flash CSC parts? I am SO confused now.
Can anyone help clarify a little more? I can't quite see how you make a firmware backup using ODIN before proceeding to actual flashing. I'd like to make a backup first before i do anything

if you want only the UK one, search on sammobile.com, u might find it!
why do you want stock rom?
you could install firmwares of other countries but u "might" face network problems!
backup your imei via galaxy toolbox app if you do so!!
u could flash a custom rom!!
