Just bought my second Prime from Bestbuy... and.. - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Just bought a Prime from Local BB here in Yakima, WA. Four just arrived today in stock. 32GB grey. After a failed pre order prime BX serial. (see my open prime thread in sig) This was a C2. No Light bleed. WIFI works excellent. Only thing that didnt work was GPS. However, I was expecting this. (Not using this for traveling only bedtime / couch surf)
WIFI range on this thing matched with my kids iPad 2! I was able to get WIFI in areas where my BX never did. Plus i am actually pulling my full bandwidth. 30mbs / 5mbs. I tested every area of my house right along side my kids iPad 2. Same results! I am totally amazed and very happy!!
Modded prime with working GPS will be mounted permenant in my vehicle.
New C2 from BB with its sleekness will be my bedtime / couch toy!

good news to hear then. Congrats.

good for you I was lucky and got a perfect one in january. Its such a great device^^ i have no idea why you would get an ipad over this.
have fun.

How can I know which one I have is that the serial number mine start with c3 is that good

There havent been any significant differences between the serial numbers. So you're good
There have been cases with other devices where they actually improved as new batches came out, but the primes have been consistantly good from the beginning. Even though this forum suggests otherwise. But you will only see the people with problems making posts so its really misleading.

Nope. Working fine on this C2! I been streaming .mkv's in Diceplayer with my bluetooth headset. Audio is in sync! Can't believe it!!! I am freakin happy. Does not have the bluetooth fallout issue whatsoever.

While I was opening this thread, I was really hoping it all worked out. I was worried it could turn into another .....well you know.
This is great news! Glad to read Asus is working out some bugs!
Enjoy my friend....

Thanks! If I can marry this prime right now I would. (However, I don't think WA allows you to marry an electronic device. )
I was a little apprehensive on laying down another $540 for a tablet. But everything worked out fine. Going to buy the black tie protection as well. I should be all set.

yes he is serious but lets not get into that never ending debate. before we have to pull the poll up showing over 80% of prime owners are happy with their device. over 400 prime owners in xda voted that way. And Asus and CNet interview statement showing less than 1% of primes are defective/have been returned.
I do admit, there are some units with issues though Smile.
its a tired debate. for the most part, majority is past that and most primes seem to be performing fine one way or another.

sorry forgot to add "according to ASUS RMA numbers" And thats about the only thing we can rely on if we are talking facts. But yeah lets burry this discussion.
as i said you will only see the people complaining in these forums... Go to an [insert random manufacturer] forum and you will find people complaining big time. If you hang around here all day and read every whine post you will get the feeling that every 2nd prime is broken There are units with issues as there always are when a new product gets released. That and people are just crazy sometimes. Look at ipad3 it got a little hot after playing some intense game for 3 hours and people start running back to the shop with it...
They should have touched my old old overclocked Celeron which was running at 90° C all his life.

Well I just received mine today and im happy wifi is strong gps locked fast and maps works great I did not try BT and really I don't care too much about it mmhhh well if I'm getting the keyboard probably I should lol
Is it normal that the battery last a little more than 5 hours with really heavy use almost straight use gaming downloading apps games browsing the web, taking some pictures etc...... Is my first cycle FYI thanks

I am happy to hear your newest Prime is working so well. Did you get an identical one or did you change the color? I'm guessing 32g with the 540 price tag. I was keeping up with your GPS mod thread and I'm guessing you must be very excited to have a brand spanking new Prime that you can start something else on. Just kidding. I finally have my 6 week RMA adventure coming to an end and Asus is sending me a C30 unit delivering Friday by FedEx. Their doing an advance RMA for me and I am grateful for that. I'll do a thorough test on the weekend and let you all know

Just got a new C30 from Amazon today. I will be waiting on my refund from my BCO that sat in RMA for over a month before Asus offered me a refund.
I didn't have problems with wifi on the last one but this one is certainly at the same speeds as my laptop (very close to the router). GPS was non existent until I tried a GPS fix (Transformer Prime Test Build 2 - Google Specific No-SSL v3.1), GPS is still a work in progress, but I have hope (even if I have to mod it externally).
Very happy with this prime. The feedback you can't hardly feel but at least it doesn't rattle like my last one.

I have a c30 just received today so far so great ,I'm confused what exactly is the gps issue I want try it tomorrow so k.want to know to compare since today I just locked gps up and tried a navigation and seems to work great thanks

Get and Try app in market "GPS test" You can see how many birds are in view. I want to correct myself in original post. I said GPS didn't work as expected. It does work on this C2 tablet. However not very well. I get some birds in view. When I pull up google maps. It puts me like two or three houses down from where I actually live (indoors). Of course my phone is accurate within like 12feet (indoors). I haven't tried outdoors with this c2 yet.
Let us know about the C3.

OK I downloaded but don't know how use it if you have me more instruction I'm happy to help and let y'all know how works in my C30
Is there any way to take screen shot on an unrooted transformer prime
Nor sure is what you looking for but, in views it was 10-14 in use 8-12
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-2

You can take a screen shot by holding volume down & power at the same time. If you had a GPS problem yours would say 0 like mine.. and not change even outside clear view of the sky. I just use bluetooth2GPS between my Nexus though if I need it on the Prime so its no biggie to me personally but it sounds like yours is fine

may want to try square trade? I dont know much about square trade but I know enough about the geeksquad (used to work there) not to get black tie, it might also be cheaper.

Chances Of Getting A Propper Prime?

I'm hearing nothing but problems. I hear the majority of primes have some form of defect. It seems to me that ASUS screwed up pretty royally with there launch.
I'm in canada and i have a preorder on some small time website. Whats the story? is it only these first few that have defects?
I doubt i would be able to return it to my retailer so im really worried about getting a defected model.
Most things are some small issues so worst that happens is you keep it for a few weeks until stocks fill up and can exchange
My hunch is that the first batch of Primes were defective. ASUS halted the shipment to Canada and delayed the shipment to the US so they could examine existing Prime inventory and correct the wifi problem. They likely had to open each prime to fix it, which likely caused new problems which seen reported here like the Prime screens bleeding light, and looseness, and markings on the basel.
Hopefully those who are waiting in pre-order hell will be the lucky ones who will get the next new batch of Primes fresh off the conveyor belt with the wifi problem fixed.
That's my hunch.

screen bleeding, bad wifi, something else.. lol (not dead pixel, could care less)
plus a couple of peoples are just crapping out on them. those issues would bug the crap out of me.
and i couldn't return it to my provider, but could i return it to ASUS?
If your retailer had them in stock you could return it to them if not have to go through asus
As for issues don't worry many people have perfect tablets some just got unlucky Asus will sort it all out

tell you what. my prime is perfect. not a problem at all.
Mines not. My gamestop prime has horrid wifi screen bleeding and no gps... It actually just rebooted after freezing while viewing this very thread... I just want the tablet to work... I hope gamestop will exchange it with a version thatcomes in jan or feb... Im not even a room over and i am between -70 and -80 on wifi analyzer.... Awful.... But i am willing to wait if it means i can get working prime
kinda makes me glad I didn't get a prime now. after going 4 tfs I wondered if asus could do better with their second Gen tablet... doesn't seem like they've done much qc this go round either.
guess I'll be getting another Sammy when they get released.
I've been using mine all day long, haven't noticed any problems with mine, no screen bleed...wifi works good for my situation, only thing I can see wrong is it looks like I may have one dead pixel but it doesn't bother me enough..plus if it does bother me ill just wait a little but for fresher models
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I'm actually glad I ordered my 64 GB now... once I accepted the fact that I wasn't going to get it before Christmas, I am glad and hopeful that some of these initial problems might be ironed out & better quality control put in place, in the next few weeks before I'm expected to receive mine; the rush to push the product out before the holidays being over now.

My Prime is working great. Everything works well including wi-fi and GPS.
No bleeding, battery is great and no lagginess whatsoever, no matter what I am doing.
I doubt "the majority" have problems. It's just that people are more likely to post their problems with their Primes (in the hopes to get them fixed) than others whose Primes are working well.
It's certainly not a clean launch by any means. But to say the majority of Primes are defective is a jumping to conclusions.
If your unit is defective, return it for a new one.
Just got to open mine today for Christmas, although it arrived from Newegg 2 days ago. I also got the docking station. Knock on wood, mine seem to be working just fine so far.
heh...mine was working flawlessly...that is until I charged it to 100% and powered it off. It now will not turn on so I guess I got a nice shiny cutting board for Christmas.

Not to make light of the situation, but it probably would make a good cutting board - did you see the video of that guy cutting apples on the screen? You would need to make sure the juices don't ruin the circuit board, though.

Yup, just there is but it did nothing when I pushed it. The only life in the unit is a green LED when the charger's plugged into the wall. It doesn't even show up on my PC when I plug it in. Good and truly dead it seems.
At least I got a couple of hours out of it before it died. Other than the whole catastrophic power failure thing it was a real pleasure to use...except maybe for the vibration...it also seemed a little busted.

Every new tablet had it's issue. Look at all the early threads for each tablet. Some people had issues, some people didn't. Your choice whether you want to venture down that road or wait. But what I have seen is that the later models, it has taken longer to get root because the development had the earlier models.

this thread isnt about whether or not tablets normally come out with issues, its about whether i should take a chance, its about if theres a chance of defects in the later models.

WooHOO for my new C2 serial! So far :)

Well...... I was lucky enough to get my hands on "another" Prime today at my local Gamestop, C2 serial which is the newest ive seen. They had only 2 in stock. This is my 3rd Prime btw. My previous was a C1. My C1 worked fairly well aside from the GPS which i got nada. My Prime before the C1 did pick up a few Sats with GPS after about 30 secs, but nothing special. And some reboots here and there of course on all previous serials of mine. I ended up returning my C1 the other night & sold my keyboard dock to a lucky guy on Craigslist.
Well.... It took less than 24hrs to have withdraw . Using my Samsung series 9 ultrabook was just not the same, seemed like... well just a laptop lol. Even though the Prime is not a laptop it just seems to add so much more value for the price in my book. Unless you need it for work then a laptop would prob be a logical choice. Anyway my GF said she even knew id be hunting one down in a few days hahaha. It must be a sickness
So i picked it up today and the cool thing is the ones from GameStop come with about $20 bucks worth of free games! Shadow Gun, Sonic CD, Riptide, Monster Madness, Sleepy Jack and a few others.
So to the good stuff! I tried to let the rush settle and let it stay in the plastic for a few hours. Couldn't resist, ripped it open. First things downloaded were Wifi Anyalyzer, Speed test & GPS test. And i am very very happy so far.
"WIFI"-in my living room is just as good as in my office where the router is. Speed test is showing almost similar results. Compared to before with my others i would get inconsistent speeds & usually half the speed while in my Living Room.
"GPS"- Whoa, now this will require further testing but... It picks up 9-12 Sats in about 10 secs! And always locks onto about 8 of them with really good accuracy. This is tested inside in my living room. Tried this at least 10 times with similar results. Its working almost too good currently, sketchy scratching my head sketchy lol! I will test it in my truck when i go to pick up my GF at 4pm today. I am not one for really caring if the GPS works or not but testing it on the Prime almost seems like a must for some reason. If you are in the group of people who have had two Primes or more lol.
I have a C2 serial as stated. Still says "GPS" on the box and was still shipped with HC. I have not upgraded yet. But man i am happy again. I haven't given up on the Prime yet.
"SCREEN BLEED" As far as screen bleed. Good way to check is in a dark room on the boot screen. It has minor, very minor light peaking through by the bottom. But honestly i think its about as good as its gonna get. Not anything you would notice unless you were looking for it really really hard.
Just to add icing on the cake i went over to my local HHGregg by my mall just to see if they had any keyboard docks for the hell of it. Low and behold they had one! Even though it said sold out online. Got if for $143 bucks too! They also had one Prime in stock. Didn't ask the serial though. So for those of you braves multiple return'ers it might be worth it to give the C2 a shot.
VERY VERY HAPPY TP OWNER " AT THE MOMENT"
Let us know if you have the same results after ICS and all the f/w updates.
Happy to see an example of a TFP operating as advertised.
Will do! I'm going for the gold and gonna update to ICS right away. Soon as i get home after picking my GF up in about a half hour i will do the famous OTA update.
I am gonna test out the GPS as well while in car. Its a bit surreal, even though my other Primes worked fairly well. Never this good, i wasn't expecting the GPS to work but hey i'm not complaining.
Now i am sure once i upgrade to ICS there will be a few hiccups being its software related. But for now ive never been happy since i got my first Prime before i was unaware of the lingering problems on some of them.
I didn't give up!
A side note my other Primes didn't come with all these "Free" games that i was gonna pay for. Double win for me today so far!
my C2XX had no GPS, light bleed, and wifi was working, but not great.
No software freezes, random boots .11 in Europe..
Glad yours working.. Hoping for a replacement soon
I thought I saw a post explaining that ASUS has not changed anything in the manufacturing process as of yet...so the C2 would essentially be the same as the C1; luck of the draw.

That's correct. No difference in hardware, yet, between any of the series. BOKAS, C1, C2 all the same.

well assuming yours is working perfectly - please somehow just tell ASUS to make them all like yours I wanted to buy one since november but becuase of these problems I'm just without a tablet as at the time being nothing comes close to a properly working TFP.
Good to hear your C2 is working good. However, some with C2 serials are still reporting problems. I do want to buy another prime. But I think I will wait for C3 serials or longer. Soon as we get more owners with positive feedback from future versions. Of course first thing I would want to do is open one up to see what kind of changes they have made to the hardware.
Are you able to run Sonic CD on your prime? I think I downloaded that game upon first receiving my Prime back in January and I had to cancel the install and refund my money because it took forever to install. I had noticed then the game was getting a lot of low star ratings on the Android market from others experiencing problems with getting the game to work.
Agreed, luck of the draw.
Picked up a C2 from Gamestop on Friday, its my third one. Previous ones had GPS/WiFi issues, and one had screen bleed.
On the new C2 the GPS is working great!!! WiFi is also working great and no screen bleed!
Also agreed that it is luck of the draw. A quick update on the GPS i wasn't able to use it much being i was on the run and my battery was about to die being it was out of the box fresh with only a 5% charge.
But the few minutes i was able to test it in a "moving" vehicle i was getting 2-5 Sats in view, but zero being "in use"
Again this is on the out of the box with no GPS or Wifi OTA. I am doing that now as we speak.
As far as someone asking about the installation of Sonic CD. It is taking alot of time to download for some reason. I currently have it downloading for 5 mins and its only on file 3 of 8 at 28%. "EDIT" I let it finish and it does currently work on my Prime on HC. I will let you know if it does with ICS.
I will let you know how my C2 is after the ICS upgrade.
In the mean time who's got a C3? Kidding lol

I got my TP (C2 Serial #) from Gamestop last week as well... everything has been working perfectly! Have you upgraded to ICS yet?
I have to think that these serials do not mean a thing honestly. I have only owned one TF Prime...the current one I own right now. It is a C1 serial, and I have never had issues with the wifi and my GPS works pretty solidly outside. Indoors the GPS does not work, but the thing is that neither does my Garmin! I think it is all about where you are located AND what type of dwelling you reside in.
It may just *seem* it is better (aka: placebo effect)
Info about C2OK***
I bought a C2OK*** in New York last week.
It had HC and updated via OTA to .14 (in New York)
Back to Germany WIFI was not working at all !
Flashed DE.11 and WIFI is fine and nearly (or exactly) same as my Galaxy S.
GPS is not working (only sometimes a few birds but no In Use)
WIFI + BT (Youtube + BT headphones) causes dramatic fallouts and finally stop of streaming
(Just as an Info)
Interesting. Watching this for updates on c2s.
So far the C2's have the same hit or miss factor as all of them. Doesn't seem to be anything to write home about.
Mine is crap. Screen not stuck on properly, 5 reboots in 3h, WiFi slower than previous 4 (yes, 4, I'm on the 5th prime now). Lightbleed, which is made worse by the fact that glass moves about. So there you go. Same QA issues as with previous models.
Sent throught the wormhole from my CoinInserted Sensation OG.
Doesn't that just mean when it was manufactured? I doubt anything changed.
IMO until supply surpasses demand Asus will never be able to really produce or QA them as well since they are being rushed out the door so quickly.
I agree hit or miss. I have a C2 and must say everything works great so far. This is my second one from gamestop.

4th Prime received, C1, another dud

I really don't know where the 1% figure comes from. Just received my Prime, Amazon, C1 serial. I am on my 4th attempt to get a good one. Same thing. Bad bleeing (even worse than previous ones), weak WiFi (4mps should be at least 15mps), WiFi drops with BT (drops from 4mps to 200kps).
I'm going to have to return this one to the store and order a new one again. 5th attempt. This is getting old.
If the stock is low maybe they resend devices that other returned? (is it posibble?)

Rumor is, they're removing BT, WIFI, and a screen from the marketing specs, so you're really expecting too much for them to be working.

The spex on the 700 series look great, but after seeing two botched TF launches in one year, I'll be damned if I buy another Asus tablet without plenty of satisfied user testimonials upfront.

Whenever I get a tablet that works. Mathematically, since there is only "1% of defective units", my changes are looking better and better
I got my new prime today. Now its also a C1 and surprisingly everythings works fine. Even GPS works! The only problem now is that I got two freezes and reboots today, but this may be related to the restore from Titanium to the new unit.
No 6 and counting. This one has infamous WiFi speed drop. Maybe no 7 will be good :-D

First off, I think it's an awesome tablet, nice screen, damn quick, and custom rom running, it's great BUT as we know wifi/gps issues. I'm not jumping ship to the iPad because personally I think i'll probably end drowning than be saved, but let's not turn into ipad vs prime and whatnot.
I pretty much have 1 day left to return the prime to the store and I'm not 100% sure what to do, although I feel like I'll probably end up sticking with it as I'm not entirely convinced the TF700 will be that huge of a difference.
GPS: Nonexistent, couldn't get a lock at all:
Bluetooth: I tried sending some photos from my nexus while streaming pandora on the prime and it seemed ok but when accessing a page on tapatalk it felt like it was slower. I don't have a bluetooth mouse, or headset to test it better.
WiFi
I'm not exactly sure if my tablet is suffering from the WiFi weakness.
Here is the scenario:
I have two ap's at home on 2 different channels. One on first floor and one in basement.
I was pretty much right in the middle of them and I ran WiFi analyzer on both my galaxy nexus and the prime and to my surprise both had very similar dbm and both had very similar speed test results.
My galaxy nexus was averaging at about -80 dbm
My prime was averaging at about -70 dbm or so.....
My laptop was no surprise better.
BUT at work:
I'm using a tenants AP, it's a bit strange. (I work as security and yes they gave me permission and the key to use it)
Galaxy Nexus will average at about -89 dbm and it will have enough WiFi bars showing in blue and i will be able to use the connection and browse around.
Prime will average at about -80 dbm but it will not catch a connection for me to browse, the first and/or second bar will either stay gray or it will just drop the connection completely.
Meanwhile my laptop is fine. There is an occasional drop of connection on both nexus and laptop but I feel like the AP is to blame.
But then why isn't the prime getting a lock enough for me to browse even though dbm is better?
Any ideas? Is this a keeper?
Down the road I'm planning to get a dock for it aswell but not sure any issue would really affect my experience there.
Just return it if you are unsure then if you have regrets you can buy another

Return it! This thing is just a ticking time bomb, and all Asus does is say hang in there, a fix is coming, meanwhile your 30 days are up in smoke and you have no choice but to keep it.
I wouldn't feel this way if the first Prime I bought didn't have a washed out screen along with all the other defects. Upon contacting Asus they basically told me to return it, so I did. I got a C2O model, champaign color, 64gb. It had gorgeous, vibrant colors, no light bleed, GPS that worked somewhat, wifi that was acceptable but still had the wifi/bluetooth problem.
Eight days later I was at a Chicago Rush game so my daughter could get her Spirit award for cheer. I was sitting in my seat, wiped my screen off because I wanted to record the event and noticed when the light shined on my screen what looked like very fine scratches on the black bezel. Upon further examination I noticed if I rotated my prime the scratches had a rainbow effect. In my head I went OH NO!, I am a jeweler and know what rainbow flash means, stress cracks.
This occurs all the time in gemstones, they get stressed during cutting or mining and the stress can get much worse or break, and thats whats happening to a lot of peoples Primes, while docked. Stress is causing their screens to break, which Asus chalks up to user abuse, BS. I treat my "Toys" with care, I don't have a lot of money to blow on thi stuff so it needs to last. I sold my First gen Ipad a month ago to help pay for this thing.
Good luck in whatever you decide, I know I loved my Prime but, man, I would be pissed at myself for seeing all the warning signs and not taking heed.
I'd return this one. Gary says something is coming in a couple of weeks....repair parts are arriving at ASUS....
I'd give ASUS about a month, first to see what the surprise is, and to give ASUS a chance to get any "changes" into inventory. Then buy your new one.
If you saw nothing truly wrong with your unit just keep it. I've had mines since 12/22 and had no issues at all. One of the first ones. All it took was my 1 purchase to get a great unit. Nothing will be better on Android or comparable till around end of June at the earliest.

I have also had mine since christmas (BCOKAS serial) and honestly.. I have had nothing to complain about. It has gotten wifi everywhere I have wanted it to, the gps is there when I am outside (not that id ever use my tablet for gps), and the screen is b-e-a-utiful and SUPER bright. I bought the keyboard dock to go along with it, and the battery life is outstanding. I can use this baby all day and still have some battery life left when I go to bed.
In the end, though, it comes down to personal preference. ASUS has made a statement that there are repair parts coming... so worst comes to worse you can send it in to them.
Return it.
Either for exchange where hopefully you will get an additional amount of time to play with it and decide, or for cash.
If for cash you may have to wait a while for another to show up if you decide you can't live without it, or you can buy something less stressful.
I have finally decided that without the right software and ability to take handwritten notes properly that I don't care how cool, amazing and sexy the hardware is (and oh boy is it gorgeous hardware, especially with (then without, then with, etc) the keyboard dock. It just doesn't work regarding my use cases and specific needs.
Damn shame.
I can't say I didn't expect these responses. But ill admit it's a rough choice. If asus gets new parts I'm hoping they won't their customers in the dark.
I was quite shocked at the results from wifi range on phone and tablet and I think I'm kind of lucky.
Mine is a C10K serial. I'm not exactly how top notch the wifi is suppose to be so I don't have much to compare to but when comparing to my phone that gets great wifi reception, results are almost identical which simply makes me believe its fine.
If the screen cracks, well I bought warranty for a reason. Ultimate decision will probably be tomorrow morning and ill see how I feel when I pick it up
You're running a custom rom, so you unlocked the bootloader, voided warranty.
Are you sure returning the Prime is actually still an option?

Let me ask you if they'll know or check :-D
I never noticed a problem with the TFP WiFi when I had one. Granted, I wasn't comparing side by side with another device - I was just using the TFP, and WiFI signal never bothered me.
Totally ignoring the comparison with your Nexus, does the WiFi connection cause you trouble? If so, return it. If not, keep it and enjoy.

I've heard that the serial number is uploaded to them when you unlock.

Not sure what you mean by this. When you unlock, your serial number gets marked in their system and your warranty is forever lost.

The serial number is for that specific tablet. If i return it to the store, and the store accepts. It is no longer my concern as they accepted it in the way it was.
If i decided to get another one, new serial.
If i keep it and it gets damaged somehow, and i get warranty replacement = new serial.
see what i mean?

Oh yeah. For some reason I was thinking you would be sending it to ASUS. My apologies. Yeah, the store will have no idea.

Last day tomorrow.....I still don't know, was on hold for 30 minutes with asus and nobody ever answered, will try again tomorrow.
I finally got one on number 6 that gets good WiFi I'm not letting this go but Bluetooth does drop WiFi down from 18mb/s same room as router Bluetooth takes it down to 3-4mb/s. So I go from 18mb/s down to 3 or 4mb/s with Bluetooth. I don't use Bluetooth that much though.

[Q] New TF201 Stock

I am currently looking to buy a TPrime but obviously after reading all the issues I'm a little hesitant.
I have been reading through Gary Keys posts and wanted to know if anyone knew about any recent batches of TPrimes that have had the issues (wifi/BT/GPS/reboots) resolved.
I am in WA, Australia.
Should I be looking for a later batch model or should I just wait for the infinity? (I'm not too bothered about full HD screen though, I just want all the hardware working as it should...)
I have searched for this info but couldnt find an sufficient answer.
Thanks in advance.
Aside from maybe being more precisely assembled, nothing much has changed for quite some time with the TF201. Some are good, some are not. Sort of reminds me of Alpha Romeo cars. Great to look at and if you get a good one, its a keeper. I was lucky. I have a C1 that is a keeper. The latest firmware improved it. The GPS works. The Wi-fi is great. Minimal screen bleed. Stock browser infrequently crashes.

So you think I should be looking for a C1 model revision? Is there any indication of the model number on the box so I can check before I purchase?
Thanks for the advice mate!
There are C3s now in the market. There is a sticker in the box that says the serial number, just take a look at it
I picked a random one when i bought mine, C2 SN and it works perfectly, GPS is indeed a bit weaker than other devices but it works good.
All in all no issues and loving my device.
I just want now my .21 update!! (Not rolled out yet for Germany models )
Awesome
It would be great if Gary Key would throw some official thoughts on this. I PM'd him but I guess he must be busy at the moment...
So the later the C revision, the better...
Mixed results for me in the last couple days with C2s.
I got a C2 two nights ago that had a backlight problem at the lower left. It was unusually bright from the corner and diagonal up to the top center. That left side, probably 40% of the screen, was like that till I gave it to a coworker and the same area went dark. If I flexed it a little, it would flicker back and forth. Returned that one ASAP.
Drove 20 miles to the next nearest store with stock replacement. This second C2 is good from what I can see this evening.

Bougth one for my girlfriend week ago and in the serial number reads "C3". It came with ICS .15 firmware out of the box. Havent noticed any hardware flaws. After the latest update I uninstalled Flash, cleared all data from default Browser and installed flash back. I havent noticed any freezing since then when browsing internet.
Id say go ahead and get this awesome device.
Anymore thoughts on this?
Thanks guys
Like others have said, mine works as good as it will ever be, but not perfectly. I am now at terms with it haha.
If I had to do it again I would rebuy my prime. For me its just the OCD in me that wants EVERYTHING to work so GPS bothers me.
As far as screen bleed, I had a little and fixed it. Then it came back again, I probably opened my prime too many times hehe.

Has anyone else received one of the newer units?
I have read on amazon about a couple of people buying in the last 10 days and have no issues with wifi, gps or backlight.

I've got a c2 and everything seems to working beautifully granted i havent tried anything with gps as i never use it, it just eats battery as far as im concerned.
Just make sure you get one from a store with a good returns policy. I plan to buy another one, just to use till the Infinity comes out and then i'll return/sell it. I live in South Africa, so they're ridiculously overpriced here. Buying from the UK and could probably sell it for more here after using it a bit...
I'm in western Australia and there are a couple of stores that I should be able to return to. I just want to be as sure as I can about the later revisions being better than the earlier ones

Update from my previous post, my second C2 has no apparent flaws. I have yet to try BT with WiFi but that's not a priority for me. WiFi and GPS work fine. I have postponed updating to the latest firmware so I'll see if performance changes. Happy with this one
I agree with the suggestion to buy from a shop you can easily exchange or return it to if something is wrong. The only gotcha is actual stock. They're in short supply still. I had to drive out of my way about 50 miles round trip (understated in my previous post). The next one in stock was 180 mile round trip here in SoCal (to Victorville).

I've had mine for about 2 weeks and like you, I was hesitant because the junk you see posted on this forum but I'm glad I went ahead with it. I love my tfp! No problems with it so far. wifi works great, GPS worked well too when i tried it, but I doubt I'll use that much really.

Got one from Amazon last Friday and it was a C2 serial, I had hoped it would be C3!! Slight light bleed, GPS non existent and WiFi range not great at all. Never tested the BT and WiFi together but decided to return it today. I may go into PC World and buy one of them if they have a good returns policy when I get my refund from Amazon. The ones in my local PS World have a C3 serial number, at least the display model. Checked the GPS on it as well and did not work :-(
Cheers,
M
Really?
Well that scuppers the idea about c2/3 models then....

I got a C2 serial Prime in Brisbane, Australia last week. Wifi is perfect, bluetooth works great, but GPS is non-existant. I have applied all known GPS fixes and still zero sat signal.

Same deal with the one I got from Amazon in the UK last week :-( Have you applied the .21 update? Is the WiFI draining the battery quicker now??
Cheers,
M
