i've never done this before and am not sure what to do.
i downloaded the ota files and magic iso. i assume that i open the disc image file? i tried this and it says "can't find the file or the file isn't a cd image file!"

But how did you get it lost???

Renane signed_system to system.img i.e. and try magic iso again.
Don't think folks will provide you their e-mail app for security reasons.
If you got it really messed, flash an ota rom, anyway...
Thanks

What ROM did you install? If the Developer removed Blur from the phone it might not be as simple as re-installing the stock email app.
However, I'm currently running Abysm Extreme 1.1 which has the stock email app removed. All I did was download the standard version of the ROM which includes the old Gingerbread email app, extracted the email.apk, dropped it on my SD Card and installed it.

hope this helps.
I have included all 4 apk with email in their name form system/apps folder.
Good luck

anyone have the newest gtalk with Video chat apk?
wanna get it on my buddy phone. And please only apk and not flash file cause he is not rooted.
Thanks fellas
Nothing Really?
Bump.
Just download any room with it in it. Open the room zip and copy the gtalk file, it will be in /system/app you won't be able to install it if he isn't rooted I don't believe. You can give it a shot though.

i have been doing some research and it doesn't look like there's a way to do it without root.
That's why i brought it over to xda, there has to be a way!

How did you get that to write to /system on an unrooted device? Just curious maybe I can learn something, knowing how linda file manager writes to a locked partition would be very helpful.

There is a thread somewhere on xda with the gtalk apk and its associated .so library file. In the morning when I'm on a computer I'll link you too it or upload them.

Thanks guys the other poster said he could do this without root. The OP stated he wanted an apk because he was trying to install on a non rooted device. These methods all require root, I was just curious how somebody was writing to system without root.

You can't use the new gtalk without root because you need its associated files and those files have to be placed in system folders and the only way to read/write system folders is with root. The apk alone won't work. Especially because it needs to placed in /system/app, not /data/app

[Q] Deodex

Hey Guys,
I'm trying to get the stock contacts dialler and mms app onto my rooted ZTE Skate with cyanogen.
as far as my understand goes, odexed apps cannot be pushed onto the cyanogenmod rom because it is a deodexed rom.
I tried deodexing with xUltimate v2.2.
it gave me a single .apk file which i pushed onto my phone.
it transferred successfully like it always does, but it doesn't appear on my app drawer nor under the relevant folder using a file explorer.
would appreciate if someone can shed some light on my problem...
Thanks in advance,
Mubs
If you place an apk file in the system/app directory and you don't see the icon in your app drawer (even after a reboot), that means the app doesn't work. Have you tried installing the app normally?
thanks for the reply.
yes i have. i just get the message aop not installed.
I've also tried the dialler and mms app too.

Don't know if you did this but, remember that you need to rename the new app to the stock app (Example: "ABCDE web browser.apk" would be need to be renamed to "browser.apk")
Yeah i extracted the apps from the stock rom so all throughout the journey, they've been holding the stock names.
Its strange because I can delete the contacts app that comes with cm and push the same contacts.apk that is present within the cyanogenmod system/app folder.
this app will appear in app manager, and the respected folder within the root directory.
but when i try to run it, i get a process failed error in acore or something like that.
same problem also exists after a reboot.
can anybody help me with this please?

State the exact error.
Ok thats very strange.
pushing contacts.apk that comes with cm7 now seems to work.
i can uninstall and push it back to my hearts content.
I then tried pushing the contacts.apk that i extracted from the stock ZTE skate rom and deodexed with xUltimate v2
and it doesn't appear in the app drawer, antek app manager list, or even under system/app when opened using ES file explorer.
what am i doing wrong?
is this contacts.apk even compatible with CM7?
i read that stock apps can be installed if deodexed, hence the reason why i went this route in the first place.
Thanks again,
Mubs

Did you set the permissions of the app to the same as the one for CM7?
Yes,
when push didn't work.
i transfered the deodexed (and the odexed) .apk from the stock rom onto my sd card and from there onto the sytem/app folder using es file explorer.
I changed the rights so that Owner has read and write privileges, Group has read privileges, and Others have read privileges.
Still no joy I'm afraid.

Ok. Have you tried re-deodexing it (or even just the app separately)?
How would i go about doing that?
do i just run the deodexed .apk through xUltimate again? I'll try that now.

No. You'll have to use both the odex file and app file again.
aah ok.
I'll do that.
I'm fine to push the deodexed .apk to the phone like normal right?
the xUltimate guide suggests i transfer the done_app folder to the sd card and then run a script.
are we sure this app is even compatible with CM7 in the first place?

[Q] WinRAR Error trying to edit ROM files

I'm trying to edit some of the files in the ROM before flashing so I can have my defaults settings in place. I could do this just fine with EVO 4G ROM files, but when I try to open...say...build.prop, it says the archive is corrupt and that there are no files to extract. However, the ROM will flash onto my phone just fine.
Do I need a different version of WinRAR? Different program? Anyone else having that problem? Thanks for any answers.

Update winRAR, or try 7zip. Redownload the file if you still get the error.
Maybe the ROM is signed that will keep you from making changes without extracting it first..
Id have to say use 7zip. Free app that's a 1000 x better for using when doing rom and theme building. IMO of course

7zip does not care if the .zip is signed or not. Don't know if I would agree that its a 1000x better but thats just me. This is why I don't sign my ROMs anymore. Just encase someone wants to delete or add something before they flash.

It doesn't matter if a rom is signed or not. Its just a zip file. With 7zip u should be able to edit what ever you want. You won't be able to view any PNG files unless they are extracted but if you edit the rom or the apk it will usually break the signature which isn't a huge issue. You can always resign an apk or flash a rom without a signature. I can't stand win zip or winrar. They take forever and always have to extract crap. With 7zip its drag and drop and never an issue.
Thanks guys. I'll give 7-zip a try. That must mean that none of the EVO 4G roms I've ran (CM7 and MIUI) were ever signed...

That's for unsigned apk.
This is a re-signed apk, can be installed on unrooted stock ROM or rooted ROM.
Still nothing. Manual is on point, it needs to be put on system partition.
This was downloaded from HTC HUB, so if it get installed after resigned, and you can't see the widget in the widget list, my guess is it may not work for Sense 4.1 lite.

Ahh..ok... nothing much I can do here to help; unless someone know how to make this widget installable on unrooted DX then I can provide total of 11 additional widgets.
I decompiled the APK, removed the shared uid part, compiled it, pushed it to /system/app and the widget didn't show up. I signed it with my own certificate, pushed it to /system/app and still no luck.
Use a flashable zip

There's an app called Aroma File Manager made by Amarullz, it is made to be used from recovery as a flashable zip, you just start it like you flash a zip from sd card. Maybe that can be used if there's a problem making flashable zip.

Sorry, didn't mention it but I used ADB in recovery. I think I've gotten used to it, so I don't say it anymore.
I personally hate flashable ZIPs, I'd rather do it manually.
What about the version code and version name in AndroidManifest.xml
I have edited a few and will let you all know in a while

Need HTC ONE Flashlight APK

I did a search and found an HTC EVO flashlight apk. Installed it on the HTC ONE but the 3 brightness setting doesn't work.
Does anyone have the HTC ONE stock flashlight APK?
My phone is bootloader unlocked, rooted, and running on stock ATT rom. Not considering custom rom at the moment due to some app and software compatibility issues.
Thanks!

Sorry I am total newbie at this. I downloaded the zip file from the dropbox link to my computer. I unzipped it. Inside I see two folders and three individual files but non is with an apk extension.
The two folders are named: Meta-Inf, and Res. The three individual files are AndroidManifest, class.dex, and resources.arsc.
I also tried to put the entire zipfile into my phone's memory and install from there. But since it's a zip I had to open view it with ezfile. Also no luck from there.
Should I just change the zip extension to apk?
Thanks
