[HELP] Softbricked S2 and can't fix. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've basically soft bricked my phone and haven't got a clue how to fix it. I've read everything and tried everything and still can't get it working with my knowledge.
I tried to flash resurrection v1.0 but phone just hung on the GSII startup screen and froze. I've tried different kernels so that i can flash from external SD card but whenever i try this, it always says bad file (no matter what file i try use to flash). When i try flash from the internal SD card, it says its all successful (for the resurrection 1.0) but i'm back to where i started.
I think i need to flash the firmware using odin but i can't find the right files. Anyone got any ideas how to fix this issue? I've been playing around with it for 10 hours roughly now.
The original kernel i used when i flashed to resurrection 9.4 was for XWKI4.
Thanks.

download this and extract, you get three files
load pda, modem and csc
also load pit in the pit tab, uncheck repartition and flash with odin 1.85

I'm not sure that guy (Kaffee4Eck) knows what he's talking about anyways. In another thread, he also suggested an I9100G user to flash Siyah kernel.

Right i've got it back working with 2.3.4 i think it is, however i still don't want to give in to getting resurrection 1.0.
Are there any steps i'm missing which causes it to hang on GSII startup then restart into the stock kernel? Tried flashing the old bootloader as well which didn't help.

If you're having trouble flashing a custom ROM, first place to start would be the thread for that particular custom ROM.
All custom ROMs should have detailed installation instructions. Make sure you are following them to the letter.
If you are flashing kernels, you must make sure you flash a kernel meant for your phone, and meant for your build. Hang on boot screen usually means you have a file not compatible with your build of Android. Could be kernel, but could also be another system file.

I have been searching, its what im currently doing now but everyone seems to have got it working or have completely different problems to me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
Literally followed it step for step, there isn't much to it. When i did 9.4 it had the same steps and that all worked fine, so i must be missing something pretty damn important here.

So when you say:

what do you mean by restart into the stock kernel? This part of the sentence doesn't make sense.
Are you saying it is hanging on the boot logo for a very long time, then it boots normally, but you are not on the new ROM?

Sorry, what i was trying to say was the galaxy s 2 logo shows for about 5 seconds then the phone restarts itself into recovery mode (which is the new kernel included with the resurrection 1.0 flash).

And now this sentence doesn't make sense.
So when it restarts into recovery, it is stock recovery instead of CWM recovery? Is that what you mean?
Stock recovery will only have like 4 or 5 line entries, with no options to back up/restore. CWM recovery will have substantially more options.
EDIT to add: BTW - did you see under the "Rom Installation (please don`t miss any step! )" section... there is text that says: "NOTE: İF YOU WANT FLASH SOMETHİNG FROM CWM RECOVERY FİRST YOU MUST İNSTALL CWM.ZİP FROM STOCK RECOVERY MOD(APPLY UPDATE FROM EXTERNAL STORAGE AND CHOOSE CWM.ZİP AND İNSTALL)
AND NOW TOUCH RECOVERY MODE WİLL APPEAR THAN YOU CAN FLASH ZİP FİLES"
---------- Post added at 03:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:11 PM ----------
Also, you seem to be mixing up the terms kernel and recovery. They are NOT the same. You should read up on what those two terms actually mean.

"So when it restarts into recovery, it is stock recovery instead of CWM recovery? Is that what you mean?"
Yeah thats what i meant sorry, been a long day lol. I don't really get what the last bit means..
"NOTE: İF YOU WANT FLASH SOMETHİNG FROM CWM RECOVERY FİRST YOU MUST İNSTALL CWM.ZİP FROM STOCK RECOVERY MOD(APPLY UPDATE FROM EXTERNAL STORAGE AND CHOOSE CWM.ZİP AND İNSTALL)

So... You know there's also a video guide on installation in that thread too, right? I've never installed this ROM, so I've about reached the limit of how far I can help you if you don't understand that last bit, as you say.

Indeed, i've watched it several times. Thats what i don't get. Everything looks the same, yet i'm the one with the problem lol.
I basically go into custom recovery, install the 3 things (rom, and both gapps), clear the cache and dalvik cache yet it goes freezes on logo then restarts into stock recovery.

[Q] Galaxy S2 I9100 ICS

Hello!
I've recently flashed the ICS OS onto my galaxy s2. However it seems to be a UK version as I cannot agree to the software update agreement along with the time won't update automatically. It seems to be a little glitchy on my phone as well...
Is there anyway I can revert back to the old gingerbread?
Thanks,
Yes its buggy, its an alpha and not really daily driver quality
How to get back to gingerbread: see here
Ya I've tried that link, I went to the link for files under the BELL (Canada) network. And there aren't any .tar files in the downloader. It's cache, factoryfs, and modem then zImage. When I flashed ICS there were .tars.
Any more ideas?

*sigh* Download the bell firmware, its a .exe, after you run it, it will extract into a .tar
To quote the thread "If the package only contains one .tar archive then it will have everything, pda+phone+csc, in the one file."
Just shove it into "PDA".
Pleases read the thread.. and flash the bootloaders first, then flash the rom.
Thank you very much. <3
Gotta love noobs....
So saying though, I've reflashed the older bootloader firmware on mine and I'll be stuffed if I can get past a bootloop....
Flashed the KP8 firmware on to test but wanted to go back to older rom...
Tried my stock rom, a few other stock roms and finally went back to KP8..
It was the only one that worked...
Will play around as time permits but doing backshift can REALLY knock you about..

Yeh, I know right, im in a bored/good mood so I have patience!
I know that one, worked a double then a nightshift once, I was dead to the world.
I recognise your avatar, did you ever have a HTC hermies, or a blueangle?
As far as the getting back to GB, you should be fine doing;
1) Odin flash old bootloaders
2) Odin flash firmware
Can you get into CWM recovery? Maybe flash something via zip, white cache/data/etc?
Otherwises thats just weird, I have seen peoples phones do weird things after flashing the ICS leaks, like someones refusing to run CM7, even after flashing back old bootloaders and double flashing the CM7 zip.
Im staying away myself, for the time being, however tempted I am
Yep, Hermies it was.....
As I say, I'll kick this puppy hard and make it do what I want or destroy it in the process... Don't like not being able to do as I want... Got a whole heap of roms to flash using cwm and thanks to chainfire I have a kernel that is rooted and has cwm.
Good idea not to try just yet, could be a harsh learning curve..
For reference, I have a chinese made international sgsII with original firmware XWKG1, might be model specific but who knows....
Take out your exteral sd and make sure you flash your old modem back.

These uppity electronic devices, cant let them get the better of us!
I am sure there will be some combo of flashes and hand waving that will give it a good kick in the head.
As long as its a i9100 it shouldn't make a difference, still weird though.
Ok, fixed it good...
You need to flash with ODIN 6 times...
!st I flashed stock rom, I had a full screen of red error messages, ignore them. I then flashed cf-root over the top. I got into recovery by holding down up volume, home button and power until sgs logo appeared then released power. Held in other buttons until recovery menu appeared...
I then cleared cache, dalvik cache and then went into mounts and formatted everything (remove your sd card or it will be wiped too).
Flash stock with Odin a second time, the cf-root a 2nd time. Repeat above steps but also in advanced fix permissions.... Also do a full wipe of data..
Flash with ODIN a 3rd time, 1st stock then cf-root... You should be back up and running... Now flash away with whatever rom you please and leave KP8 alone until its easier to fix...
Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense and its possible I did a few steps more than I needed but I just got home after a lovely night at work and REALLY need sleep...
Cheers, hope this helps....
Thats just mental, glad you got it working though

guys i need some help .. i flashed 4.0.3 on my SGS2 ..as we know the rom is quite buggy so i tried going back to 2.3.6. Here is what happens..
I flashed stock GB using odin .. phone boots but takes me to the 'emergency dial' screen with a finger constantly telling me to touch the android... at the same time i'm getting thousands of FC messages.
I've tried restoring backups of my GB rom, the one i was using before flashing ICS but all the backups fail..saying 'system.img' file not found
I've tried flashing 2 differnet roms using odin but the same happens. .. i'm forced to only flash the laggy buggy ICS rom but i want to go back to GB
A step by step guide will be much appreciated.

Thats for i9000, I dont know if it will work with i9100, and may have bricked your phone.
Should have just used standard odin
Can you get into download mode?
Do you have a backup of the stock or another rom that you can then revert back to stock from?
Just curious as to what the issue is, ICS is running fine for me, only issue is the video codecs which I knew about. Maybe a reflash would help if its glitchy?

Ok, so you have bootloader from gingerbread back on your phone?
If you had flashed i9000 bootloaders onto your i9100 you would have bricked, you haven't, we are all good.
Now you just need to fix the FC'ing, what stock rom are you flashing?

Phone stuck on Galaxy SII logo in boot

Hi there, I'm panicking right now.
I just rooted my phone using a tutorial online and it was no problem and everything worked fine after that.
Then I used another tutorial to flash my ROM to CM7 and that's when I started to have problems.
I booted into ClockworkMod Recovery (holding volume up + home + power) and wiped data and chache partition, then I select "Install zip from sdcard" and chose CM7 zip file which I had put on to my sd card, I get a message that installation was successful.
But now I can't access my phone, it's stuck at the Samsung Galaxy SII logo.
I have wiped data again and used Odin to flash a stock ROM on to my phone but it doesn't work.
I need help guys.
EDIT: This post doesn't matter now, there is a new reply at page 3 with new problems.
Did you use a .pit file a repartition when you flashed a stock ROM with ODIN again? What do you mean the phone doesn't work? Does it bootloop or still stuck on the startup logo?

Well the phone did bootloop at one time and I fixed that by flashing a stock ROM on the phone with Odin, did not use a PIT file.
Now the phone is just stuck on the white Galaxy SII logo and I was hoping that flashing the phone again with stock ROM would also fix that.
I did not use a PIT file for that either.
Please reflash with a stock ROM that contains DBDATA and use a .pit file for repartitioning... That should fix your phone!

@OP Download this package : http://hotfile.com/dl/130600047/b70801e/I9100XXKI3.rar.html
And then, in ODIN, put :
.PIT -> PIT
CODE -> PDA
MODEM -> PHONE
CSC -> CSC
Toggle repartition, and those 2 standard ticks. DO NOT TICK ANYTHING ELSE.
That WILL fix your phone Bootloops means that you soft bricked it. Flashing a new ROM + PIT always fixes a bootlooped device.

Is that bad?
The amount of bad advice in this thread is shocking.
Do you actually have an I9100?
My first thought from your original post is that you didn't flash twice in succession, and the flash you did do was practically instant.
Regarding your last post, status 7 is usually when you're trying to flash something not meant for your device.

I was seriously going to stay up all night trying to fix this and skip school tomorrow...
But I still want a custom ROM
Is there a better way than booting into ClockworkMod Recovery and installing zip file from sd card?
Also, any idea about why all this would happen to me? I got all the tutorials on an Icelandic forum where a person with the same phone did exactly what I was going to do and it worked perfectly for him, and I have gone over the steps many times, I did not screw up.
How to flash CM7
1) Flash a kernel with CWM, CF-root will do
2) Download CM7 zip and put it in your internalSD card
3) Boot into CWM
4) Flash CM7 zip
5) Reboot into CWM
6) Flash CM7 zip again
7) wipe cache/data/dalvik cache
6) reboot and wait for upto 10min for it to boot.
You HAVE to flash the CM7 zip twice.
Also you NEVER need to use the .pit, also never tick repartition, a bad flash with repartition ticked is a one way street to hardbrick land.

Don't panic dude, it happens sometimes Keeping cool is the key to fixing your phone without making it worse than it already is... I can't count the times this has happened to me already, and there ain't nuffin like a good 'ole repartitioning to set things straight (and show the damn contraption who's boss around these here parts.. I hate those stupid machines to whom nobody has ever taught that Man's genius INVARIABLY always triumphs over dumb and inert matter.. )
(although I almost never flash the whole ROM back on : most times flashing the .PIT file and rebooting the device does the trick -unless it's an installed app which caused the trouble in the first place, in which case you're better off starting over from scratch than wasting time trying to debug the problem)
N.B : don't forget to flash the "old bootloader" too, AFTER you've flashed the PIT and rebooted the device (or at least rebooted the recovvery, to check that it boots off a valid partition), I've noticed the new one can give a lot of weird and unpredictable behaviors when used in conjunction with root and a CMx ROM.

My phone is really starting to annoy me now.
I put a stock ROM on the phone and then flashed CF-Root and when I boot up in CWM and select something it just displays the loading sign and then I hit the power button and I'm back on the main menu of CMW, doesn't matter what I select it only displays the loading sign and it doesn't go away.
It really sucks, I had put all the CM9 files on the SDcard and was ready to go.
EDIT: Never mind guys, finally got it to work Thanks for your help!

I was going to ask : have you flashed the CM rom twice, and flashed the google apps pack BEFORE even rebooting the phone ? It's almost always mandatory to do this precise sequence, the installation routine of the CM ROM is not quite perfect -far from it, actually..

Bricked ICS after root attempt

So this is me second Galaxy Note. My first one came with Gingerbread and I had no problems rooting that phone. That phone broke and I got sent a new one because my old phone was still under warranty. So I'm trying to find a way to root this phone and everything I keep seeing on how to root it is the same method that I used on Gingerbread, however, my phone came from AT&T with ICS 4.0.4 pre-isntalled. I didn't think that the old way to root it would work but I can't find anything that doesn't involve loading a custom image so I tried using the pda.tar root method and now my phone is bricked, stuck at the splash screen and it won't turn back on. I can get it back into download mode, but I do not want to put a leaked ICS rom back onto the phone. Call me crazy but I think there are differences between the stock ICS ROM and the leaked versions.
The leaked version is actually where my problems came from on my other phone, after having put that on there AT&T tried forcing an update to my phone while I was talking to tech support about an issue and that thing is completely bricked. According to their guy the leaked version had a different kernel that the stock ICS ROM and that's where the problem came from and why my phone was replaced under warranty.
Does anyone have good news for me on this thing?
Read the root information in the "note everything " thread , and find the big green arrow .
Notes have been added to the root method , and are found there also ...
Read them twice and you'll see the battery pull fix you need ..
The problem you have is a script being loaded after root that won't allow recovery to stick ...
The fix is easy ...just read the info in the notes .....g
I will check that out, thank you!

And no....your not bricked .....not Even close ....g

That's of no help... I can't get my phone into any recovery, stock or CWM. Seems like he was using a different rooting method than me. I've only ever loaded the one file pda.tar and what he's looking at seems like it wants to load CWM using Odin? I'm so confused, I'm sorry. Thanks for your help so far.
Root is gained by pushing the recovery in DL mode ...
Then the battery trick after that ....
If no download mode exists .....that's a problem .g
Don't think he has the script issue. That was on Canadian Notes that took the OTA update. He is boot looped from the sounds of it.
Gubment Cheeze
Still have DL mode, I've tried running pda.tar again which gave me CWM. I pulled the battery out, still the same problem.
I guess I could try CM9, is there a stable build on that yet? I know I should probably do the research looking for it, but it has to do with this thread in a way.
If you're boot looped but have recovery and dl mode then you can flash a ROM through recovery or Odin back to stock and start over.

---------- Post added at 01:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:36 PM ----------
..root and custom recovery are 2 different things completely. If you're just going to flash a ROM then you don't need to root. You just need a custom recovery. If you want to keep your stock ROM and attain root, then you need to flash the su binaries zip in a custom recovery.

OK..so when you said this^^^, you meant what? Can you get into recovery at all? Cwm or stock 3e? If not then you can't flash a ROM. You can use Odin to flash back to stock and start over.

I just used Odin to get me back to the stock Gingerbread ROM. Then I ran Odin again to get root on the phone using the pda.tar. Before this gave me CWM. I cannot get my phone into any recovery mode at all, CWM or stock. I went back into Odin and loaded a CWM using PDA and I still can't access a recovery menu.
What happens when you try to flash the cwm tar through Odin? Does it say successful and then reboot your phone? How are you trying to enter cwm recovery?
Gubment Cheeze
---------- Post added at 03:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:49 PM ----------
Also, I'm not aware of any Odin root tar that you're talking about. You flash cwm through Odin and then install su binaries zip to attain root.
Gubment Cheeze
I'm confused ...
If you Odin flashed the GB.tar, and it completed successfully, then you "in fact " have a 3e recovery, as it's included in the .tar image .
Volume up, volume down , and power button being pushed together will open this version of recovery.
The restore won't complete without it ....
If you have a working GB rom ....then Odin push the recovery and done ....g
When I try to flash CWM through Odin it all goes as expected till I try to get into recovery. I've pushed and held VLup, VLdn, Pwr and I've tried VLup plus power. The phone does nothing, just vibrates over and over again until I let go and then it shuts off. The phone boots no problem into GB, the problem after that is that the phone still thinks it has some remenance of ICS on it. A whole lot of google processes don't work and it tries telling me that it's still in power save mode that I know for sure isn't in the GB ROM. I can restart the phone and attempt recovery and I still get nothing. I've even tried updating the firmware with Kies and that gets me nowhere either. Even after I've got GB back onto the phone I've tried flashing a couple different CWM from Odin with no better result.
The fact that I'm booting into GB shows that Odin is working. I'll be looking into Odin to see if it will wipe the phone clean without going into recovery. Otherwise I have a worthless device and I have to send in my old phone and I know I can get working again....
Both volume up and down plus power. After first vibration, release power, but continue to hold the volume buttons. If that doesn't work, download an app from the play store like Flapps PowerTool to get into recovery.
Gubment Cheeze
I had a similar issue (stuck on the Samsung logo) the other day when I tried to root ICS. I solved it by entering download mode and flashing one of the leaked ICS ROMS using Odin. Once I had done that, I downloaded the full ATT official ICS ROM and using Kies, updated manually.
Good luck.
That's good advice I'll have to try out and I'll let you guys know what happens. Thank you again!

What will happen, is you will see a recovery called 3e...
and then we can start all over again to root your phone...g....:good:

Galaxy S iii won't boot, stuck on logo screen, can't enter recovery.

I have a rooted Australian Galaxy s iii i9300 running stock android 4.0.4 and Siyah Kernel V.1.5.3, both of which I flashed about 3 weeks ago.
My phone has been running perfectly, last night before going to bed I plugged my phone into the charger as usual. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary with it, I didn't alter any settings or install anything new and it has been weeks since I've flashed anything. I woke up this morning to see my phone stuck on the 'Galaxy S iii' logo screen as if it had automatically rebooted itself during the night and got stuck. I've tried removing the battery and turning it back on several times but it just keeps getting stuck on the logo screen. I can't enter clockwork recovery mod but I can still enter download mode.
Is my phone bricked?
How did this happen when I didn't even do anything?
What should I do?
Should I try re-flashing the stock ics rom?
Re-root
Try re-rooting it with Odin (from Download Mode), then you might be able to go into Recovery Mode.
Have you recently installed any app? Coz there must be a reason for this to happen.
If the above comment does not work, next step would be to order a jig to force it into download mode.

Did you flash the Stock Rom via Odin with 1 part file? You should try it with 3 part File Stock Rom and flash via Odin.

Thanks for the reply. Where can I find the 3 part file version of the stock Rom? Can you point me in the direction of a tutorial for flashing 3 part files with Odin? I'm only familiar with flashing a single tar file.
Seems as if this becomes a common problem, since this is like the 1001st thread about a S3 shutting down while on charge and not being able to reboot.

Really? I did a quick search before posting this, sorry for the repost. Did anyone come up with a solution in previous threads?
I've searched and searched but I still can't find the 3 file firmware. I don't even know what I'm looking for really. Can someone please link me to a 3 part Rom compatible with my phone?
While my search for similar problems before creating this thread yielded very few results, I have since found the other threads Ch0ka was referring to by searching 'There is no PIT partition'. It seems that if flashing a three part file and repartitioning with Odin doesn't work, the general consensus is that I'll have to send it to a service center for repair. Haven't I voided the warranty on my phone by rooting it? will they be able to tell I've rooted it or is it damaged beyond that point? I really can't afford to be paying for repairs right now.
I'm so upset, I still don't understand how my phone could just brick itself overnight! Could someone please give me some advice?

Entered Clockwork recovery mod.
Updated Kernel to Siyah from SD
Rebooted
Phone updated ( update i used to always click away, might be JB s3 update)
Now my phone boots, shows purple siyah picture, shows bootanimation, asks for simcard pin and reboots again.
this loop takes forever.
I cannot get into clockwork mod anymore.
I can get into download mode (down+home+power)
I am very scared that i ruined my phone :crying: :crying:
Is there hope that i can fix this? or like it is really low chance
rerooting didnt bring clockwork mod back.
installed clockwork mod via odin, but also didnt help.
I would really like to revert the (down+home+power) menu to pre root. because than factory reset is available.
is that possible? please help desperate person who is in need of working phone by tomorrow morning :crying: :crying:

Thanks for replying. My problem is that I don't know what to look for. How do I know which one has 3 files? Which one do I need? Please help me revive my semi-bricked Wifi Tab

I'm not new to installing custom ROMs, I've been doing it for several years to many phones and to my Galaxy Tab P7510.
But, I'm in a spot that I haven't been able to recover, I'm hoping you can help.
Facts: Running TWRP and Infamous AOKP ROM.
Here's what happened. Last night I was using my Tab and it went black. I mean it just shut down. Turned off. So, I just power it on. It starts the boot process and I can see the boot animation for Infamous ROM. There's a spinning circle of dots during boot so I know it's booting. After about a minute or so the circle stops spinning. Not good. It's frozen. I let it sit for at least a half hour thinking I'm being patient. No go. Try several more times, same result.
Ok, time to go into TWRP and reflash the ROM. I hold the power and volume down. When the screen pops up (is this the boot loader?) I choose recovery, not download mode. I see the Infamous Logo for TWRP (Infamous has it's own branded version of TWRP) and get ready to flash. But, wait! It freezes too. It never gets into recovery. Just sits there. I try again. Same thing. I let it sit for a while and eventually it just reboots the Tab.
Ok, I figure that something in recovery or the OS has been fried. I need to do an Odin to get TWRP or CWM flashed. I boot the Tab into Download mode. I connect the TAB to my PC. The PC chirps letting me know it's connected. (I have the Samsung drivers already installed). I download CWM tar file. I then download the latest Odin, v4.44.
Now, here's where I'm stuck. Odin doesn't see a Tab connected. The Tab sits in "Downloading..." mode. I've reinstalled the Samsung drivers just to be safe. Same result.
What can I do next to fix this?
More info: I can see the "Samsung Device" toast message appear when connected. I also see "Samsung Android Device" in Device Manager. I also see "Connected! Press the [Start] button on Odin3" on the Tab's screen. This leads me to believe that the device is properly connected to the PC. So, why doesn't Odin see it?
Update:
While I couldn't get ODIN 4.xx to work, I downloaded Odin 3.07 and was able to put CyanogenMod on the Tab. I was able to successfully install Infamous 1.9.1 from within CyanogenMod. But, when I tried to clear Dalvik the Tab just hung. Reboot into recovery. I try to clear cache and the Tab hangs. I reinstall Infamous and reboot. In the middle of the reboot while the boot animation is showing it hangs. Time after time it hangs.
I think there's something seriously wrong with the hardware and I'll never be able to get this thing revived. Maybe it's time to go tablet shopping... Sigh, sad times, the Tab was like a good friend.

You could always try to go a bit further back in software and use a stock rom, as well as repartition using .pit file as trying to pile custom rom on custom rom with all the kernel and boot image variations is eventually asking for trouble. Lots of people have lots of differing results with this tab which can be "random" to say the very least but at least with Odin and repartition you can be fairly certain that everything has been set back to zero. My best results on this tab have always been with Odin 1.3 tho others will say otherwise. Remember seeing you posting a lot a couple of years back I think...

Ok, I think we're getting somewhere. However, formatting data or SD card just hung. I just went down the list and formatted everything. It seemed to work. Everything is clear and not the other formats work just fine. CWM works fine all around.
That's the good news. The bad news is that I now have a Tab with a recovery that works fine but no Android OS and no zip file on the SD card to install. How do I get a file onto the Tab to flash? I know that TWRP let's me flash from an external card (at least I've done this on a phone) but I have CWM on the phone and not TWRP. How do I access a zip file to flash?

OK.. So you formatted the system..if you didn't. Your ROM is still there.. If you did, than grab a ROM in ( .tar ) format to flash with Odin.. You could grab the stock 4.0.4 firmware from Sammobile or search around for one. Make sure the ROM has a kernel with it or is compatible with the kernel you have now.. I've never grabbed one from Sammobile but I would imagine that the kernel file is in the download with the stock firmware file.. Or flash a different kernel then the ROM that matches up.. Just remember Odin needs a tar file..

Thanks for being so helpful. I've watched both videos. I think I know how to do this. I just can't find the tar file. The big DOWNLOAD button described in the video no longer exists. It points me to the SamMobile site instead.
I go to SamMobile (I've registered) and I put in my tablet information and about 5 screens later I get to a download page. But, in the end I get to download a ZIP file, not a TAR file. I'm about ready to throw in the towel. At least for tonight. I'm so close I can taste it, I just wish it wasn't so hard to find the tar file.

I gotta thank you again. I just couldn't go to bed yet. I think I'm on to something. I downloaded that ZIP file anyway from SamMobile. Took 30 minutes for only a 400 meg file. Turns out the TAR file's inside the zip file, which I was hoping. I'm flashing it now.
Edit: It booted into Original TouchWiz. Woohoo. The Samsung logo felt like an old friend.
Again, thanks for your help! I'm indebted to you and hopefully I can pay it forward.
As Promised..
Here ya go...stock 4.0.4 with directions... http://wikiclouded.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-p7510-official-firmware-android-4-0-nluk/ ...Go Get Wiki With It...sorry, couldn't help myself... don't judge me its late..lmao. @TabGuy

Files from SamMobile are hosted on a download site in zip format, download it and unzip with winrar, 7zip, whatever.
tar.md5 file that you get goes in PDA in Odin, .pit file goes in PIT, leave the default options in Odin checked and make sure to check partition as well if you are using .pit file (in your case you should do this as it really will be spring clean).
Kernel is, of course, contained within the tar.md5 rom file.
Edit - I'm working nights and have just clocked off.... Put in this post above then noticed that xda premium hadn't updated and you had subsequently posted that you had succeeded....
Good for you! Long life to your 10.1

Unzip the zip file. The tar file is inside.
Edit: oh wait nvm. Didn't notice there was another page. Silly me.

First let me thank everyone for the help. My Tab is back on Ice Cream Sandwich and TouchWiz
Now, the search continues. I looked at all the sticky posts about how to root and flash CWM. I've watched all the videos to refresh my memory on how to do it. I'm ready to go BUT all of the links to the downloads need are broken. They've decayed due to neglect. I imagine that the OPs have gone on to other tablets.
So, where do I go to get the files necessary to root and flash a new recovery? This time I'll make sure I save them on my PC for sure!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Twrp recovery... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833136 .. Use the dd method..Bam you have a recovery..But make sure you have the ROM you want to flash already on the tab/w all the files you need( gapps ).. This way if something goes side ways after booting to recovery you have a ROM/gapps to get back...Always have a backup plan... I try to..and it helps. ............Scratch this... I'm an idiot...forgot you're not rooted..

Yeah, getting rooted is where I'm stuck. I could only find CWM v4.0.0.4. Then I found a Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.ZIP file and installed it. But, alas, I have no root. At least I can't get root access in File Manager HD. I do have a SuperUser app installed which normally means root but I can't install a rom either.
I'm just stuck now. I guess this what happens when support for a product decays. It's very hard to find the right files anymore. I wish I'd have saved them when I did this the first time.
If anyone has access to the proper CWM and Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip file for the P7510 (wifi) I'd be very happy if I could borrow them
If I can't get them then I guess I'm going tablet shopping for a new tablet. I can't live on ICS and TouchWiz.

I know this all sounds easy. And it was the first time I did this. However, the links in all the tutorials are broken. I can't get the right files to get rooted. Once I'm rooted I'll be on my way. I just can't get there. I know it sounds insanely simple but it's not.
