Pocket Lint Comparison - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Take a look at the following "article" by Pocketlint in the UK comparing the ipad with the prime.
Very funny read......
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/45050/new-ipad-vs-transformer-prime

1ST: NEW IPAD 3G, lighter weight, better video watching
2ND: PRIME no 3G, heavy, great but missing touch of class
LOL they compare the weight of the prime including the keyboard??
I also like the squeezing in of advertising for apple tv.
"The iPad does claim the win here in the video stakes, though. Its video application is just a lot slicker than Android."
Because android doesn't have choice, and they 4:3 screen is just amazing for widescreen movies.
thanks for the funny read.

Even in death, Steve Jobs is still getting the best blow j** from these fanboy sites!! just too funny!!
P.S. I have the utmost respect for Steve, he was a visionary

This can't be real right?

Actually, I would agree with just about everything they said...from their point of view, that is. There are reasons people buy Ipads, just like there are reasons I prefer an android device like the Prime. I like being able to play any format, and to be able to stream over my network without intermediaries like Itunes and DLNA. They value the simplicity and integration of Itunes and being able to integrate with Apple TV, and they like the added display resolution. I like to have games that look good and run smoothly with a lot of graphical detail, they like a bigger selection and simpler games. I like something heavily customizable, they like simplicity and uniform behavior. I didn't find any of their assertions wrong, just not my point of view.

Comparing the weight of the Prime with the keyboard dock and using that as a negative for the Prime (when by itself it's lighter than the iPad) is a clear sign of bias (or maybe sloppy thinking). If the reviewer wanted to be impartial, he would have tossed in one of the various iPad keyboard dock options and an external battery pack, and included those in the iPad's weight.
I don't consider this an unbiased review by any stretch.

Wow! Lets face it the new iPad, all iPads' for that matter, are the 800lbs gorillas that all other tablets are and will judged buy. They set the standard, for better or worst, simply because they've sold millions of them and people love them. It's fact so don't flame me.
They are not for everyone , me included, and most likely everyone in this forum. But this review was so mismatched that I'm not even going to try and rebut all of it. I will say though if you going to compare products then compare like products.
First I'm pissed my Prime didn't come with the "included keyboard." I thought that cost extra? I'm pretty sure you can buy one for the iPad too. Which one would be easier to throw in the rucksack then? Next is cost. 500$ will buy both of these products and the last I checked you didn't 3G and 32GB of storage for that money on the iPad either. Last point is video. Now I don't know how Apple TV works but I'm pretty sure it's a wireless connection to the iPad to be able to view it on the TV since PL didn't have to "plug it in." Correct me if I'm wrong but could the Prime not do this too? My TV and Windows 7 PCs all have DNLA built in and to this day have of yet to plug any of my Android devices into a PC to get content on or off them or watch stuff on my TV. Samba Fileshare lets all of my Android devices be part of my home network wirelessly. But you know the best part for me? I don't have to install and use that God forshaken **** software iTunes!

Wow looks like yanks like GernBlanston are brainwashed too

It was such a fair review that I had to put my two penny's worth in!!

"The iPad’s extra display resolution does come into play during email. Text is far, far easier to read..."
This was one of the main things that stuck out to me.
Does text look sharper on the iPad? Sure, i'll give you that considering the higher resolution, but I definitely wouldn't say it is "far, far easier to read". I have used both devices and can attest that text and images do look slightly better on the iPad, but the article makes it sound like the iPad display is a gift from God and that the Prime's display doesn't even compare, which is totally inaccurate.
I also didn't agree with comparing the weight of the iPad to the weight of the Prime with the dock. They are so full of it anyways as they claim the weight of the keyboard dock could be the straw the breaks the camel's back when it comes to rucksack weight. If there really is that big of a problem with the weight (which is BS to begin with)... guess what? The keyboard dock comes off!

That's a true display (pun intended) of how Apple can market something and people will consider it amazing in every way.
It's as if people sat around before the iPad3 squinting at the screen and considered reading email an unusable feature on any tablet. As if anyone who looked at their iPad2 said, "You know, if you doubled the pixel density it would make the experience of reading this email so much better!"
Keep in mind the Primes density is 150, the iPad2 is 136 and the 3rd gen iPad is 264.

Yes, we Prime owners are such brainwashed apple fanatics. Whenever I like a device, I run out and buy the competing product. Sorry I suggested that apple might have some attraction for some folks other than me, it must have really hurt your feelings and called for some sort of retaliation.
Seriously, all I did was suggest that Apple had some appealing features...features that I explained didn't win me over due to the Prime's advantages in several areas...and out come the pitchforks. Of course I'm the one who's brainwashed....

Yeah, or when he talks about the ease of sync'ing music and doesn't mention Google Music (or whatever it's called this week) at all.
Nor does he mention how much widgets and 3rd party launchers can customize your user "experience" with the Prime. Methinks the author is an Apple user by preference and doesn't have a clue what advantages Android can bring.

Compare HTC Flyer to HTC Jetstream

So, I have both. And I will share my thoughts.
Inking: A major complaint I had with the Flyer was that the stylus was limited to the Reader app, HTC Notes and the PDF Viewer. The PDF Viewer was kinda clunky because the pen nib was ginormous! However, I could change colors on the pen and highlight functions.
So, the JS doesn't have the Reader app, but I have another option that is just as good with the Moon+ reader. No handwritten notes, but eh. The keyboard is big on the JS, so it is ok. HTC Notes has a new nib that is a crayon. Love it. It also seems the response on the JS kills the Flyer! PDF Viewer is the same, EXCEPT the pen nib is smaller and smoother, which is AWESOME, but I am limited to blue only!
However, I can use the scribe ANYWHERE on the JS! Hands down, I prefer the JS in using the stylus! I just wish that I could change out the ink colors in the PDF Viewer to more than blue....
Widgets on the JS are cool....pretty standard Sense Widgets. Also, the wallpaper scrolls like on Sense 2.0 (like the Evo 4G). Glad to have that back! The default browser is better as well. Actually, all the widgets are better on the JS!
I also prefer the size. I read a lot and I had to zoom a lot with the Flyer.
Regarding video, it does just fine for me. I use Netflix and Crackle and it's all good. I also have some downloaded movies that are good as well.
It feels better in my hand than the other tablets I have tried because of the curve. It feels comfy even if it is heavier. And it is a solid well made tablet. Much like the Flyer's older brother! And believe me, you can see the difference in the real estate between the two!
I am also happy to have a full version of Zinio working on this bad boy!
If you have any questions, just post them! Yeah, I know, I am a girl and with all the reading, I sound like I oughtta just have a Nook. Lol. I want this bad boy rooted, though! I miss my backup and customizing!
Have you tried out the Flyer HC? Just wondering if the benefits you found on the JC are still valid against the Flyer running HC....

Video on the Jetstream is just bizarre. There's no discrete video app. Instead, you have to select videos from the gallery and than an imbedded HTC app gets launched. There's an option in the gallery to select a different default video player but the only one that ever appears as an option is HTC's. It also doesn't support MKV. Neither PlayOn or Plex work on it which will be a deal breaker for people who want Hulu access and to stream their own content. HTC's video implementation's have always sucked. You can live with it on a phone but it's pretty shabby for a $700 tablet considering video is probably one of the top things people do with it. Other than the screwed up video and weight I thought it was extremely well done.
I haven't implemented HC on the Flyer yet, have you? I was wondering the same thing! Wondering primarily about Scribe, and if the stylus works for all apps?
The tablet is great for a student....to be honest, I don't do video...that is what Boxee and the big screen TV are for me....tablets are for reading, research, annotation, and a nice personal assistant....for me, at least.
Its good to know that info, though!
So, tell me (the poor guy who can't buy anything better than a nook color...) is the jetstream good for reading? I like to read books, and I find 7 inch tablets are more "book-like" than a 10 inch...
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
I prefer the larger tablet....I can read the screen better and without my glasses! With the Flyer, I had such a small space and on the ten inch, it.is more.like.a true page size. And when you are zooming, this means a lot. Smaller screen, I had to pan more.
I do like the Flyer for an address book, though. Fits in purse better, not so noticeable....however, typing on this JS is awesome! So easy....almost like a real keyboard. I think when cases come out, I won't have a problem lugging this around, though....
Hope this helps! The Nook is a great device! Totally impressed with how far it has come!
I really liked the Flyer, but it was just too small for me. The Jetstream is the perfect size.
The Pen on the Jetstream can be used to select buttons and tabs, as before with the Flyer you could not do that. This is really a much improved feature as it is just natural to want to use the pen to select if you have the pen in your hand already.
JOHN
The pen on the Honeycomb Flyer is much improved. You can use it on everything, just like the way you use your finger.

Express and Pro doesn't work on Flyer, it looks like it was because of the resolution being lower than typical Honeycomb devices.
Pro is the only version that has option for pressure sensitive pens, and I was told it works for Jetstream, I hope to verify that personally sometime down the road.
Right now I do a lot of sketch on Sketchbook Mobile, since it works like finger but more accurate. I am happier than I was using the crappy HTC Scribble that's for sure.

I for one would like to use a tablet WITH a big screen TV one day (using HDMI). Right now it looks like only Archos is good for videos though. Tegra2 for example is very poor - I also find the quality of the videos is much worse than when I play them on a desktop PC (probably because simpler decoding algorithms). I wonder if this is the same for the chip in Jetstream? On my Transformer when playing avi file I see a strange grid on the picture.
Isn't a video is more of a software question than a hardware. We have Qualcomm dualcore 1,5 here, which can do certain number of megaflops. Thats it. Everythin else depends on installed video player\decoder.

If you want to know the real low-down, find out AFTER you've bought the thing and used it for a couple of weeks. All this geek spec is just fodder for your fixation of Shiny Expensive Objects, and of course for the usual fanboi pillow fights. Lordy, you'd think people would wise up by now.

no you douche it's what i prefer just cause you had a bad experience with a product doesn't mean you can change what other people prefer. You should go whine elsewhere. No its not about the evil apple empire its about how ****ty ios is, its made to be simple for simple people and if that's what you like so be it but coming in and trying to discourage people because you have a different opinion.... now THAT is a typical apple user for you. Flaming & smoking Prime!!!

Jeez, got my new Prime yesterday, from my insurance company, as the old one's screen cracked.
So I rooted it and installed all the apps and customized it just as I wanted it with some mods. After a while the problems started...
1) Screen went black and had to reboot it. That happened at least 10 times. A few times I had to press the ON-button several times before anything happened.
2) The screen just goes nuts with the colors ie. turns pink and blotchy...
and
3) When I connected the dock...smoke rose from the dock and smelled like welding... Ok, I thought there had been some dirt that burned off. Connected again and noticed it wouldn't fit properly, couldn't lock.
As I unconnected it started to smoke again!!!
Stupid as I am, I tried a third time and...BLAM! Small flames came from the dock!!!
Amazingly the tablet itself is OK, except from 1 and 2...
Guess I'll have to call ASUS
Funny, I now have one Prime with a cracked screen that works fine and one Prime with good screen that is a complete mess and could probably burn down my house!
W.Z.
Ouch! Take some pics please.
i really find that hard to believe....
with the amount of voltage and current the prime is able to provide, i highly doubt it is able to create a small fire unless you did something really stupid with it....smokes yes, fire no.....
but please do post some pictures and let us know what asus says

only smoke i smell is bull**** troll
I'll try it later and see what happens...
Can be difficult to take pics, but I can try video.
Hopefully there won't be any flames (or BIG sparks, really) or smoke, as I'm scared it'll damage the tablet...
And I don't think it is "really stupid" to connect the tablet to the dock...
Let's see later what happens :fingers-crossed:
I wonder if I have to contact the insurance company as well, as they got me this crappy one.
W.Z.
once again, with the power coming from the dock and tablet, you shouldn't be getting any flames or a big spark, small one maybe
but then again, im not sure whats inside the prime so i can't be 100% sure on the spark, but flame no... unless you spilled flammable liquid in there... but that will fall under doing something stupid
I guess you have never seen a LIPO battery fire.
...and the strange thing is that it didn't come from the connector, but from the hinge's left side !?
The flame/spark resembled lighting a small match, believe it or not...
W.Z.
Well it certainly wasn't as explosive as in the video...!!!
Funny that's a Finnish video, my fellow citizens experimenting
But yes, guess we all have read about phones and batteries exploding and caught fire.

Hrrm...well, it is freakin' difficult to take a picture with one hand when you're doing something that needs two hands...unless you're a mutant that got three?
Video is easier as I can start recording and then stabilizing the phone/cam on a stand. And no my phone doesn't record to VHS...

I love this thing!

Sorry if this post doesn't really add much but I have to say, I love this device! It is absolutely solid and almost as easy to hold as the n7 with build quality that puts it to shame!
I don't know how anyone can say this thing feels or is cheap feeling at all. The finish on this feels awesome and the device has zero flex in it. I even like the shape! iPad can go to hell. 10 hours of battery life for my usage, an amazing screen and it is faster than any high end android device I've had a chance to use. Samsung and Google hit this thing out of the park.
I really hope whenever my n4 comes in that it can hold up to the example set with the 10.
Only thing I'm worried about is how long I will have to wait for my screen and body protector to come in the mail. Some cases and the mag power connector need to get here fast too.
Anyone else here feel the same?

Mine has pretty bad light bleeding at the top right corner. Noticeable when the screen is dark. The back also creaks a little if I press it...
But I do love this tablet. Samsung makes beautiful devices. Loved the GTab 10.1 and now this. The screen is stunning. I compared viewing a high-res 24mp image (6000x4000) with an Asus TF Infinity and the difference is staggering o.o Don't believe people who say the screen isn't that much better than 1080p. It sure is, providing you have high-res sources.
can't wait to get mine this Wednesday

Loving mine already have it unlocked, CWM and Rooted just waiting for some AOKP.
stop with all the praises..lol i have too many tablets already. i want a nexus 10 ;(
i have a feeling i will get one soon. either that or microsoft surface.
I love mine....I can't understand the neg reviews either. The screen is absolutely gorgeous!
My only probs are that we need more quality tablet apps, and I wish the battery was a bit higher capacity.
After owning the orig Verizon moto Xoom, the orig Transformer, and Nex 7... I have to say this is a joy to use

The negative reviews was basically Engadget and PCmag, the rest were positive but also mentioned the ipad 4 being superior. I have a few theories as to why this tablet is betting some hate despite the specifications and excellent Samsung manufacturing and design. I truly believe these theories to be quite accurate as well. The hate I believe stems from three camps. The Samsung haters(there are a lot including Engadget), the Infinity owners, and the ipad 3/4 owners.
The Samsung hater theory is self explanatory.
The Asus owners are basically trying to justify how crappy their tablet runs by emphasizing the few minor features that the infinity has over the Nexus 10.
The ipad 3/4 owners are the same as the infinity owners except their tablet runs great but they are still insecure and throw some hate at the Nexus 10 because they are jealous that their retina display got beat and how much thinner/lighther, less expensive, the Nexus 10 is. They also are hating on how cool it runs compared to the literally scorching ipad 3.
Basically player hating.
the screen is just beautiful and colors are not washed out like nexus 7.. didnt notice any light bleed, as long as I dont notice any bleed in my day to day use, I dont care if there is any.. I plan to use this to occasionally watch movies stored in my desktop.. for browsing or lugging around the house, nexus 7 will do..will wait for aokp build and root it..want to enjoy pure android a lil before I load custom rom..
Just got mine in...still setting it up but so far so good. The screen is absolutely amazing and the swipe keys work good as well. I can already say without a doubt that it does not suffer from the stuttering seen on the tf700. Love it love it love it

Same here. This is my first Android device, and I can honestly say I'm blown away by how much more open it is.
haven't put it down since pulling it out of the box on Friday. Screen is amazing and it runs flawlessly. The only reason I'm even going to root is install AdFree and have full access to Root Explorer, other than that I see no need to mess w/ custom Roms, it has all I want and need!

It is indeed a thing of great beauty. :victory:
This is the experience I was expecting when I bought my Prime last year. This runs circles around the Prime and I agree with Tomatoes8 on his N10 hate theories. Can't imagine the tablet experience being much better than this. Also, the boot time blew my mind compared to the Prime. I would imagine with updates etc that the N10 will only get better.

Official Water-Cooled Nexus 10 Thread

Sorry to get your hopes up by the title, but I have not built this. It's merely an idea I had. I'm picturing the tablet on the front of a small custom-built case, with a small power supply, water-cooled CPU/GPU/memory, overclocked to hell, full-sized wireless keyboard and mouse, maybe a little tube amp built-in, and a USB/SD card reader hub built into the side. Who wants to sacrifice their tablet in the name of awesomeness? :fingers-crossed:
Any other ideas or Photoshop renderings are welcome!
Why? You just described a desktop computer...

Thats a really good idea man! How bout a liquid nitrogen one?!?!?! Or rather, how bout we build a fridge just for the nexus 10?!?!
I like my N10 to be portable... lol
You can get portable fridges

I can't tell if the OP is serious or if he's trying to troll all of us.

In all seriousness... the N10 is supposed to be a portable device. The mods your describing simply dont belong in a portable device. Blow your money on a really nice desktop computer and put the Android emulator from the SDK on it if you really want something like this.
Is it similar to a desktop computer? Yes
Is it practical? No
Is it portable? No
Would it still be pretty awesome? Yes:good:
Got a nice computer already, built it myself (not from scratch). My degree is in electrical engineering so I still would like to see someone build this. Sorry to blow your minds with such a ridiculous concept.
I think it would be more practical and doable , to make a case with a build in cooling fan in the back where it would help to keep the nexus 10 from thermal throttling, and power it thru the micro USB.

Looks to me like a phase change cooling system, which *can* be used for normal running but is not really practical or the safest thing to do. It is supposed to be for benchmark runs but is kinda pointless now days since anyone doing extreme benchmarking has an easier time going the LN2 route and anyone going for a world record is pretty much always sponsored by a company and given liquid helium
I think this idea for a large and bulky custom cooling solution is completely pointless on this tablet. I am all for extreme overclocking and was a world record holder myself at one time (in PC's, not Android stuff). However the problem is that even with an extreme water cooling setup these processors probably wont do very well overclocking and at best would hit *MAYBE* 2.5GHz tops. The processors architecture needs to be more refined before we will see any decent headroom on these things. Right now the final products just have far too much of a range of quality, which shows that there are problems needing to be sorted out in the architecture and process node. And even if you managed to get this thing cooled really well, I suspect (as others do too) that part of the issue with the throttling is not just temperature but also TDP limit being upheld. So you would have to hack the firmware to remove this limiting so that both the CPU and GPU could run at their full speed properly. It would be interesting to see done but would take far too much work to do and also cost a lot of money. Reasonably I could see the case and cooling setup costing 2x what the entire tablet cost.

It's not helium, it's nitrogen.
The N10 is big enough as it is and that image of the PC is actually kinda meh.
Reason:
ZALMAN HDD cooler - OLD.
8000 card - OLD
Prolly a E8k/Q9k prolly so it's also old.

The WRT54GS is the dead giveaway of how old that photo is.
yea I see that modem, has anyone watercooled a portable device?, it would be silly, I was thinking use the screen for a netbook with intel 3000, it would be cheaper than buying a mac retina
