GS2 wont charge due to liquid damage.... what to do. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey.
My girlfriends little brother spilt liquid all over her phone. Now it works but it will not charge, i gave her my battery and if worked fine but refuses to charge. Due to working different hours i cannot use my phone to charge her battery.
Sent it back and they knew it was from liquid damage so they gave it straight back.
What can i do? Buy a new board of ebay or something?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

you might get away with just replacing the USB board, which is a really quick easy change...
you could also go on ebay and get the Anker battery and charger set which includes two 1900mah batteries (same dimensions as the stock 1600mah)
1 charger for the battery
It costs about $20 and means you can charge 1 battery, use the other...

Oh awesome might look into that battery thing.
And i thought of the usb board replacement to but where can i get one?

such a cheap fix, it's worth trying that before replacing the whole main board which is $$ whereas the battery idea is quick, and the batteries are just flat out handy... especially because you can charge them outside of the phone... i believe you can use the charger on your Nexus too... it's a cool adaptable charger. so for less than $30 you can get the batteries, charger and the usb board shipped to you... which i think is a way better idea than trying to get a main board.
PS... thanks button haha

Does anyone make a charger doc with spot for spare battery?

If I decide the keep the EVO 3D, I'll probably want a spare battery and a charger for the spare battery. I'd consider something like this if it had a spot for a spare battery. I don't want the extended XL batter since I keep my phone in my pants.
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/bd2-crdhev3d.htm - anyone know of something like this but with a spare battery charging spot?

Like a few others I have found (and tested) these and It seems to be the best choice. I does include a USB port for dual charging. They cost more but its well worth it:

Thanks, I was thinking about just getting an OEM battery but what I'm looking for ideally is a single cradle that I can just dock my phone in but also have a spare battery charging in.
Here you go:
http://www.obostore.com/-Discount-for-htcdopod-evo-3d_c144.html
Have the original one for the OG EVO (about a year now,) worked pretty good....it is on my wifes desk at her work now.
thanks for the link
I found one at the Kidigi site a few weeks ago. It isn't out yet, but I emailed the company and they say it should be available at the end of July.
I saw another model on eBay and a few other sites, but the spare battery charger holds the battery horizontally, which takes up more space on your desk. It looks like the Kidigi cradle holds the spare battery vertically, saving some real estate.
Apologies for not posting a link to it. I joined a few years ago when I had a problem with a different phone but haven't posted enough to be permitted to post links yet. Anyone interested can find the cradle I'm referring to by searching for the manufacturer's name, Kidigi.
I still wish the official HTC dock with the MHL adapter-compatibility also had a spare battery charger, though.

got those ones and they last about the same as the stock battery

Too Good To Be True?.... (Battery+Charger)

http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommer...sung-Galaxy-S-II-Battery-(2)-%2b-Dock-Charger
This site (which has been mentioned on this forum for USBJigs, is offering 2 OEM Style batteries PLUS an external charger for $20? I would love to pounce on this offer..
EDIT: yea i just ordered it... i figured for 20$ if its a bust im not out much.
I was thinking actual Samsung batteries, but OEM "style" has me questioning.
i bought it, i figured for 20$ i would give it a shot, ill update the thread when i get it so everyone knows if it was a good buy or not. but i also wanted a jig (my main reason for looking there) so worst case scenario i just spent $26 on a usb jig and battery charger. (26 after adding jig)
I was really thinking about picking up one of those too. Report back when you get yours and let us know how it is. Is the jig for the sgs2 the same as the captivate one?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure. There were links for different phones on that site, I just clicked ours and these accessaries were showing.
The batteries will work however you will not be able to plug in the USB cable. Doing so will cause endless boot loops. Its a known issue when using i9100 batteries.

guess that's the catch then...
Those are Chinese generic batteries that are available on eBay and elsewhere. I had a set and charger for the Captivate, purchased for less than half what that seller is asking. They did work, but nowhere near as well as the OEM battery despite having the same nominal capacity rating. The charger was also really weak at 300mA? or so and took hours to charge (USB is 500mA). They were good when I needed a few extra hours in a pinch, but that's about it.
Swapping batteries also can throw your battery stats off.
I have no experience with the USB boot loops etc.
Speaking of made in China batteries for the I9100 I just got one in the mail. Seems to be working fine with no reboots, hope it stays that way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317993
And there's apps for having separate battery stats in case you have different sized batteries.

thoughts on this cheap $3 battery charger?

i've got some OEM batteries already and i just need to find a charger for them instead of swapping them into my phone to charge them...
will this suffice?

From what I can tell with the battery plugged in it slow charges at 300-350ma where as with usb cables it charges at 800ma. I would not expect it to charge a battery in less than 12 hours if it was near dead. But sure it will work with either the international or at&t version. Remember though, you get what you pay for.
Edit: I have bought various items from China, different vendors. A usb hub I bought bit the dust after a few months use.. It was about $4 too. Just don't expect to use it on a daily basis and have it last very long.
good point, i'll stick to oem i guess
it's not like it's a **** load more money...
what do you think of this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-SAM...ccessories&hash=item41621fcfa4#ht_2631wt_1080
also note: the item is in S.Korea which makes me think it's the real deal OEM
I am pretty sure that is only the charger though so beware. I bought one and it clearly stated extra battery included was oem as well

Pay little more than the cheap wall charger and get this one. It not too expensive, its Samsung OEM shipped from S. Korea. The only thing is that it does not come with AC adapter but you can use the one that came with the phone.

That looks like the charger that comes with the Hyperion battery you can get from Amazon. It does charge slow--I think it takes about 6-7 hours to charge from empty. I didn't mind, though, as it would charge while I was doing other stuff and when the light changed from red to green, I'd just slap another dead battery on there for charging.

Awesome deal

3 batteries and wall charger, so convenient I have one charging all the time and put one in my wallet when I leave the house never worry about dead batteries again

Bought the same pack from a different seller a couple months ago. I think I paid about $10. Regardless price can't be beat.
Pros:
Pretty good life, roughly 75% of OEM.
Cons:
Charger has since crapped out, one of the pins broke off inside.
Batteries wouldn't charge in phone, gave message "battery disconnected" on screen
One of batteries died on, wouldn't charge.
Overall a good deal so long as your charger doesn't crap out like mine did. I've had this same charger come with almost every cheap battery pack ive bought for different phones. It's the exact some one except the size of the battery slot changes for each battery. This is the first one i've had crap out so i'd say its a fluke.

I have this charger and Anker batteries. No problems so far. http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Upgrade-2700mAh-SGH-I717-GT-N7000/dp/B006BHQWX0/ref=pd_sim_cps_1
I've had so many chargers like these, you need to make sure you slide the battery in gently so that the pins for charging won't break, it's a pain but it will make it last forever

How much did you pay for yours, $30?
I have this one as well.
I have the same pack and I purchase from the same listing at Amazon. It allows me the added assurance of battery power.
CONS:
The batteries wear down faster than the OEM battery that comes with the phone
Something else to carry so you need to have them in your pocket or a traveling container of some sort to carry them with you.
PROS:
Fast swap with a fresh full charged battery.
I love the charger has an USB port where you can plug your micro usb cable in and change the battery in the phone at the same time that you charge one in the dock.
It was worth the buy for me. I'm always looking for more ways to accent my device experience.

Wow very nice deal.... ima have to get me a kit for emergencies...

Did you find yourself ignoring the Spare Battery Charger

Did anyone purchase a spare battery charger and find themselves still plugging their phone in most of the time, forgetting their charger at home, not wanting to take off case and rebooting phone every time, etc? And find themselves only using it for emergency purposes?

i bought a universal battery charger because i was tired of wasting money on a new charger everytime i get a new phone. also, i carry a few devices so all i needed was one. i got mine on ebay for about $15. pict in link below

No not really. Taking the time to swap batteries is still better than waiting for the phone to charge.

I have the Anker battery set and charger too. Day to day at home or the office I rarely use them but I do a fair bit of traveling each month and in planes, trains, and automobiles they come in handy.
And yes it's a PITA to take off my case. Especially since I switched from the cheap one piece TPU/Pleather case to the two piece Rubber/Pleather with separate silver trim AVOC case.

I'm the opposite. I haven't plugged my phone into it's charger for months now. Always have the extra battery fully charged
