I saw a post on here (CM9 discussion thread maybe ? Not 100% certain) bout 3-4 months ago saying someone was working on giving the SGS2 the ability to shoot pictures in RAW. Haven't seen anything further since, and I'm not sure it was in that CM9 thread.

That would be amazing. I was wondering if it was possible to get RAW images from the SGS2 camera. Can't afford a DSLR

That's the thing tho, is it even possible ? Yeah, it would be pretty good. Wonder if that would iron out the various 'artifacts' you sometimes see in images taken with the SGS2 ? (like the red/pink blotch, poor quality in low light, etc, etc). May not even be possible with the hardware no matter what's done with the firmware.

[Q] [Camera S2] Manual shutter speed or Exposure lock (AE lock)?

My hobby is photography and I like doing panorama photos by stitching 5+ normal photos to one panorama. Without manual shutter speed or exposure lock on the camera, I can't do that...
My question is - Is there a way for this on Samsung Galaxy S2?
Sorry but photography on a smartphone camera? Really?
There is a panorama shooting mode in the camera app...

AFAIK there is no option for manual shutter control. And for panorama, it's there in the camera settings.

Sorry if I'm being a "****", but I agree with him. Phones are not for this. If your hobby is really photography, you don't do it with a phone, unless you're a hipster, or you can't afford a good camera. Yes, when you need a quick pic, it's okay, but that's not the real thing :/
Also, ICS should have nice panorama feature, let's just wait for it.
Hello again
I have DSLR, but I'm not that much into photography to bring it everywhere with me...
Here is some samples with my old phones (first from Sony Ericsson K770 3,2MP, others from Samsung Omnia 5MP)
I try the panorama on Galaxy S2 (also other panorama programs), but they DON'T have AE lock, and stitching its not good (for example, try do panorama in dark room with one bright window...)
So, is there hope for some software developing on Android, maybe for ICS?
Hello again, just want to say that I found some kind of solution, if someone other than me is interested
Fast Burst Camera app (in beta for now) have some AE lock and I can take photos for panorama, thats GREAT, but the app can take max resolution of 800x600 ...
Also if there is other program... PLEASE let me know about it, I'm interested in paying for it
no need to pay, use fireworks mode,
stock cam app extends shutter speed to 1 second.
here's my sample

Hello again
I've found the perfect camera APP and its called Camera FV-5 !
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro&feature=search_result
V1.1 supports AE-L (AutoExposure-Lock), but only for ICS devices. However, it's not working on custom ROM's, that's what the developer of the program say'd to me, when I ask him "why does AE-L not working with me". I'm ont Lite'ning V2.6 ROM (ICS 4.0.3 based).
The developer say'd that this future works only ot original ICS releases (for now), it has to do something with the camera driver/apk (I don't understand that much)
Could I flash from somewhere original ICS base on this ROM, the only thing I want is to work AE-L on my phone

I found out how to lock the focus (it's the last option in the Focus menu), but how do you lock the Aperture?
Also, I tried the Exposure Bracketing and took 7 shots, would anyone recommend a free software to make an HDR picture out of these?

good/expensive equipment might give you clearer pictures with higher pixels but it is also not wrong for anyone (including photographers) to use their smart phones for photography, as the matter of fact capturing photos at the right moment is the most important factor of all.
many of my photographer friends enjoy the photo taking capability with today's smart phones for several reasons: 1. it's very handy because people carry their phone on them all the time. 2. Easy-Quick to use 3.picture quality is good enough in most cases.

To improve photos quality

Hi to all,
I would like to know if there are same way to improve camera quality. I can see my photos often are blurry.. a little bit...Although I use the focus with the touch.
Is there any setting, or build.prop modding to improve? Or any other apps...
Thanks a lot

With my previous HTC desire HD pictures quality was very very better than this...
I don't see anything wrong with this picture.
What you can do is try a modded camera.apk that has 100 compression on JPGs instead of 95, or just use a thirdparty app like Procapture.

Macro focus is for closeup shots. Given how far the bottle is away from the phone, it wouldn't be suitable for that particular photo.

Your photo is good... but if you see my crop, is very very poor! I can see too much jpg artifacts
1st. Find out if its Macro or Not. Try Autofocus if its not on.
2nd. Did you buy it as a new phone, or is it 2nd hand? In 2nd hand case it could be that the phone was opened previously for a repair or something, and the lens or the lens cover got dirty.
can someone extract your own camera.apk and share with me? could be my app corrupt...

IMHO the picture quality is very good in this phone its a matter of how well you can play with your settings in there! One suggestion would be that don't take the pictures with auto flash! but if you still looking for other options then I think you should look to the third party app like "Camera Zoom FX" and its on sale at the moment as well!
here is the link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=slide.cameraZoom&hl=en
It has more options plus excellent other settings and added frames etc as well, which you may find useful if you're a picture enthusiastic!

why there is no slow shutter program for andriod ... thats so strage.. it exists for iphone and works great ..

or .. some one cant port a program from .ipa to .apk ??!!!
You can't do a port.
If you want it... just do it, or ask for it to the developer community
It seems to be impossible for moment.

If you are looking for a camera app that allows long exposures, Camera FV-5 allows custom shutter speeds, it has many controls that mimic a dslr experience. I bought the full version, makes me miss my 5DMKII a little less when I am out and about without....

Is this thread still alive? I was found Motion Camera app on market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fingersoft.motioncamera but the result is not good as on iOS https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/slow-shutter-cam/id357404131?mt=8 (if this what anybody here expected for long exposure technique).
I've check camera specification between my phone (SGS3) my friend iPhone 3G. Both have almost same aperture, about 2.6/2.8 (I forgot). The shutter speed, ISO, and Exposure can be customized (both device). So there no reason (I guess) for the app cannot be applied on Android. I've contact the developer and we'll wait for the news.

Yes, it is a lot less grainy.. You will see a big difference. Its a free app, try it, ur not gonna loose anything:laugh:
doesn't seem like you can zoom while recording a video something the Samsung camera does, and the Samsung camera does slow motion videos also.
No touch focus actually autofocus is kibda choppy....
Its mainly another real time photo app...

Camera quality lower on custom roms?

Is this true that on S3, the quality of photos is lower on custom/CM-based roms, than on stock rom?
Are there other elements that don't work / work worse on non-stock roms on S3?
Custom roms is not the correct term. Touchwiz based custom roms, camera is identical
Aosp based custom roms, not so great. Works ok....

What do you mean by "not so great"? Less camera app options or lesser picture quality?
As many or more options. Since samsung didn't share their camera HAL source, aosp camera not quite as good quality as touchwiz camera. Its fine for me though

Is this any better in i9505 with regards to camera HAL? I know it is Snapdragon CPU so in that department it is much better, but what about camera on AOSP?
The camera hal has been back engineered just recently and has been made open source by Paul K. which should have improved the quality of pictures on CyanogenMod 10.2
There still could be bugs but now the team has code that they can work on.

And is there any way to use a TouchWiz apk on CM and use those extra options? I would imagine it is just an app, unless it is a part of the whole UI and impossible to port.

The Touchwiz camera is an app that requires parts of the TouchWiz Framework. Maybe someone could port it to CM but I suppose it would be pretty difficult.
I use the Snap Camera App. It has HDR and other great settings and works like a charm.

HDR with this app work as taking several separate photos (which takes several seconds), or shooting just once (and phone doing all the shots it needs at once) like with TW?

Yes I understand, and I can do HDR shots with my old Desire, too. But the app takes 5-6 separate shots in total, and you have to hold the phone still for about 10 seconds. And on top of that, the moving objects will be all screwed up because of that.
Do you actually see two picture being taken, or does it look like just one from the UI point of view?

Yes you can see that the App takes 2 pictures but it does not take 10 seconds to take a HDR picture. It takes about 2-3 seconds with Snap.
None of the alternatives can replace the touchwiz hdr function. I use camera 360 which has a "hdr effect" mode which is ok but as mentioned, waiting for a 2nd or 3rd photo is a problem

I wonder how the Samsung App is doing it technically? I mean for HDR you need at least 2 pictures with different exposure levels. How can the App do an HDR shot with only one picture?

I suppose it takes several photos, but you just see it as one being taken.
I wonder what is the difference in HDR photographs of moving objects using TW and third-party programs.
I believe the TW camera takes 2 or 3 pictures within a split second of each other. It could also just take 1 picture and post-process the image differently 3 times. After all, pretty much all digital camera effects are post processed.
