New Primes Including Keyboard - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

When I was looking at Primes in Taipei, the Guanghua dealers told me that the new ones were all bundled with the keyboard dock.
The box they came in was the same size as the old tablet-only box, graphics changed slightly to reflect both, with the same serial number on both the tablet and the dock.
List price was the same as the old separate pieces, though negotiable as always. Everything was C3 production. Has anyone else seen this, esp. outside Taiwan?

Nope, at least amazon.de lists/sells the 64gb version without a dock. I'd post a link but ...
And i also don't think they are starting to offer the 32gb+dock at the same price of the old 32gb sans dock. The dock costs 100€ bundled and 150€ standalone, that would be at least 20% off. Given that the tfp is still the only* tegra3/ics tablet you can buy in europe i doubt such a big drop.
*) maybe not, if so, please show me which tablet/ where to buy it

Ever heard of the Asus easteregg?

^Hmmm so why do i have 64 GB??
To the OP, this is old news since November last year and the rest just another rumour.
To add a little to heresy: I think you can unlock the em(sleeeep)mc and it will quadruple its size. You get 512 GB and it will triple its speed. It's the so called Asus easteregg in the Prime. LOL
Edit: XDA no fun delay !

I saw most 32gb versions in Europe bundeld with the dock, for the exact same price as the 64gb version without dock... this is quite confusing... but well...

@ slowatsch
You are right, two models,
32 GB & dock = 64 GB no dock
It's as simple as that.
The op doesn't seem to have made a minimal research, so he doesn't know what he is talking about.
As you stated you have seen also 32 GB with no dock which makes me wonder Didn't Asus say they would release the 32 GB with dock only ?
Well, nothing worldchanging though, so let's get rid of this ------- MODS !! ----

You missed one word in the title: New Accessories NOT coming
ASUS has no intent of releasing accessories that reduce dock sales. This is a fraud and untrue just like everyone else selling vapor on the internet.
If you buy these you are VERY naive, because no one in the WORLD has ever demoed one of these items. Selling these items is a 1st class fraud.
ROFLMFAO.
Well the power adapters are already available so why not other accessories?

No, I am not bitter whatsoever. I refuse to accept the lies.
ASUS is completely unprofessional in their TF101 accessory manufacturing and consumer marketing, except AC adapters & cables. I prefer not to give a list of examples why and waste my time.
Accessories to not fall off the assembly line. There are manufacturing dates, based on a business process, and either availability dates or delays and problems. However, ASUS is acting unprofessional because they provide no availability dates nor mention of delays on the items mentioned by the OP.
It is easy to understand delays and problems since we are dealing with a new OS, e.g. Android v3.x and new host functionality. But, ASUS has no excuse whatsoever to say nothing. Especially since other tablet manufacturers are currently shipping equivalent components on the same Android OS levels.
The fact official ASUS resellers are selling these components without any factual ETA dates is fraud, plain and simple. You do not have to be bitter nor upset to recognize this fact. ASUS makes the choice to be unprofessional, or not.
Again, good luck with your pre-order.

Sorry I do not mean to offend. I agree the tablet works great. My complaint is for selling vapor without dates from ASUS, no matter if it is amazon.de.
I also agree there is no rush (especially with pre-order sales) because I expect, if the USB host and SD accessories are released with the *next* version of the tablet (Tegra 3), they will still work with our version tablets.
The first series of EEE PC had some internal redesigns that significantly effected compatibility of *internal* mini-PCIe components. The *external* TF101 components are a different case. I would be shocked if ASUS modified the design of their 40 pin proprietary cables.
In case no one noticed on amazon.de, the SD accessory has a picture showing it includes a USB host port, same price as USB host accessory.

Do you have some problem with people wanting other accessories? You like your dock. We get it. I want to watch movies when I'm wrenching in the garage, and the Display Stand takes up less space, and I don't want another $150 worth of fragile equipment sitting near all my power tools. You seem to think I should have to use the keyboard dock, whether I want to use the keyboard and touchpad, or not.

I highly recommend you get the ipad2. At least there you won't have the option at all since apple only update once in a blue moon.
Jesus christ, people whine about everything. Just get ipad 2 and get it over with. There, you won't ever have to think about update, since apple rolls out an update a year or something. Asus, on the other hand, rolls out a major update a month, and we still get people like you whining nonstop.

If you're not gonna buy the dock, why don't buy another tablet instead? Just wondering

I might choose not to use the Asus keyboard/dock. I already have other keyboard options that should work. If there was another Kal-el / quad processor tablet available, even the Archos G9, I'd consider that. If the Prime ships for $500 I'll try it and see if I really need the keyboard/dock (with USB...)
I hope that answers your question.

Because if I need to write something on the tablet I will use Swype. It is almost as fast as a keyboard for me (and I'm a fast typer).
For anything that needs a keyboard to write with I have my desktop computer.
I just have no need for a dock, that is not the way I want to use the Prime.
And really no other tablet competes with the Prime yet.
But sadly it seems they don't sell it separately with the 32GB version at least here in Germany.
I have just preordered my Asus Transformer Prime at Amazon.com. Pricing $492.00
I am so looking forward to it. Now I have to figure out what to do with the Transformer version 1.

OH BOY here we go again. Hopefully this release will not generate the volume of posts that the current TF generated with people having 5-6 orders pending and cancelling them as one shipped of vendors cancelling orders when they could not get product.
I am more interested to see if it is going to be rootable. Doesn't really matter to me as I wouldn't trade my TF101 for the world.
not sure if i'm willing to spend another $200 to upgrade my 16GB to the new 32GB version. this thing is perfect right now. also, i don't get why they won't make a 16GB model considering that majority loves the $399 price point.
Yeah, the only thing my tf101 doesn't do satisfactorily is play mkv's. I don't have the disposable income to get the new one just for that, when the alternate is running them through handbrake.
That and no root, which I require for VPN and SMB, I can wait.
They sure are sexy tho!

Tech device like thse are like cars, their value deperciate quickly, as new thing constantly comes out.
So what else is new?
In searching on Acer A510, looks like scuttlebutt from EU blogs is that A510 will sell for €399 in EU and £370 for UK. Price in USD should be same as EUR. Asus TP300 should be priced same. Both will have a tough time competing against iPad 2 at price parity. Don't expect a big marketing push for these models. These are what you call placeholders.
Per Acer press release, A510 will have a 9.8Ah battery for 50% improvement over previous gen. A500/100 had poor battery life. 3.7V also means USB charging is likely doable. OTOH, buh-bye full USB port...
Battery capacity:
A500: 3.26Ah * 7.4V = 24.1 Whr
A100: 1.53Ah * 7.4V = 11.3 Whr
A200: 3.26Ah * 7.4V = 24.1 Whr
A510: 9.80Ah * 3.7V = 36.3 Whr
Re: Prime price cut - Doubt it. More likely is Prime will continue w/ limited availability until new models are intro'ed.
Re: Goog el-cheapo tab - Verge rumor sez $199, which sounds more reasonable. Will probably have OMAP 4430 like Fire/Nook. Hopefully 1280x800. Probably 1GB/8GB RAM/flash.
Geek Qs: Unlocked bootloader? GED w/ direct updates from Goog? Since it's Goog, bet on working GPS. Helps with location-based ads.
Larger implication: Will other vendors be happy? Then again, it's not like there's much action going on in the 7" front. But if Goog lowballs the 7" market, no one will want to step in. How can you compete with a $200 official Google tablet? For better or worse, Goog will have to carry its own ball from now on--at least for the 7".
How would a lowball 7" Goog tab affect the 10" market? Calling all Nostradami...
My magic 8-ball sez it depends on how much enthusiasm Goog can whip up w/ Jelly. In terms of buzz, ICS is clearly buzzed out. 5 months post-launch, and adoption = 0.0000001%. Sales is about excitement first, price second. I don't see too many excited Android peeps here.
And it's not just about the home team. If Win8 tabs hit a home run come fall, Goog will have to carry its own bucket regardless. So might as well start now.

Asus is playing real dumb. Soon as Samsung and other companies put out their high end tablets they will be easy to buy because they know how to release a product and have it available. Who's gonna be searching all over for an Asus when you walk into any electronics store and buy a Samsung/Acer, etc??? If Asus wanted more business they should have flooded the market with their Prime since it is right now the only tegra tablet available, but the dumbo's made it almost impossible to get, even after 3 months on the market. They need to go back to business 101.

Who knows why Asus didnt decide to flood the market with the prime... Maybe the prime was pressured to be released when it wasnt ready yet. Maybe Asus wanted to know how the prime is going to be accepted at its state when released. Maybe they wanted to make the prime a limited edition. Maybe they wanted to leave room for the Pad 300 and Infinity series. Maybe they'll drop the price 100 dollars when the infinity series comes out, like what apple did with Ipad2 and the new Ipad... Who knows... only Asus knows..
Why didn't asus flood the market? Because the ones that didn't sell by the time others put out T3's will gather dust or be sold for very little profit. Would you want to be the store that has a large inventory off first generation Transformers (or like generation tablet's)?
I still think Tegra 3 supply has been limited. I think the best sign of that supply improving will be actual stock of other Tegra 3 devices hitting the street. So far, there's been lots of talk bit nothing actually shipping.

HTC One X, One S to launch on April 5 in the U.K.
Posted: 3 days ago, 09:50, by Nick T.
First the good news: we have an update regarding the HTC One S and HTC One X release dates. Both smartphones are expected to hit the shelves on April 5. Now the not-so-good news: word comes from sources in the U.K., meaning that the U.S. release dates for the two smartphones may vary. The April 5 release date for the Tegra 3 powered HTC One X comes from U.K. carrier O2, which spilled the beans in a tweet this morning. Meanwhile, online retailer Phones4u is already accepting pre-orders for the HTC One S with shipping expected to begin on that very same day.

[Q] GPS-gate: fixed?

Hi all!
I just bought a Transformer Prime... and I find that I have a GPS-broken one (I know, it's not really broken, but it doesn't work).
I have read that Asus is branding an external GPS unit to fix the problem, but I'm not sure if they will send it to me here in Spain. In adition, is there any review of the external GPS? Is it compatible with charging/dock?
The newer Primes, have the GPS problem fixed or they are still broken? I don't know which would be better: if trying to buy a new Prime from another store or wait until the newer tablets without that kind of problem...
Thanks in advance
It has good reviews from the users who got it so far, but it's not compatible with the dock (in fact, it replaces it). ASUS should send it in Spain; AFAIK only Italy, Greece and Iceland are left out.
I don't think it will be fixed in a future Prime review, since the problem seems to be the aluminum backing.
Thanks cm0901.
I don't remember where I read it, but I have supposed that the newer Primes have the problem solved...
I think I will retrieve my money back and wait until a new Asus tablet (without GPS problem) are available.
Thanks a lot
The lower cost model of the Transformer the TF300 is already out and its full plastic, that means not as sturdy and thin as the TP but the GPS works
See the thread and/or google for more info on it. Or use the dongle. Hope they start shipping in europe soon...
clouds5 I already know this tablet, but some questions:
Is it launched and on sale? I can't found it on Spain :-(
The differences between Prime and Pad300 are ony the internal ROM size (16 vs 32), the aluminum/plastic cover?
On the Asus specs the TP is promoted with "SuperIPS+" screen specifically, and the Pad300 only as "IPS"... laziness or a real difference between screens?

Real difference, means that the Prime's screen can reach more brightness level in SuperIPS+ mode. TF300 lacks the flash led for the camera as well
If it was available, possibly I would change my TP for a 300, but it's not available on Spain (or maybe worldwide, I don't know).
I will take the Asus-solution... I don't think that I will need to use GPS and keyboard at the same time... I hope so
I've also just bought a Prime and apparently there is really a GPS problem. However, after installing the GPS status app, I could find 6 satellites. My One X is much faster finding them though.

You could find 100s for all that it matters. It won't keep a lock while moving.
So far I have used an external GPS, namely a QST QUARTZ 1000 by bluetooth with no problem and today I have received the kit from Asus GPS dongle and runs smoothly, almost like the aforementioned bluetooth GPS.
sure some primes are ok, i think mine is. just been out for a drive and testing with and without the asus dongle and very little difference. both locked in a timely fashion and tracked well.

[Q] Best TF201 Replacement

Well, I may have hit the jackpot last night. My wife said she would like to have a tablet for doing simple stuff like checking her email and lite web surfing without having to haul out her laptop. She then suggests that she really likes my Prime and maybe she could use that and I could get a new one
...Ding, ding, ding, ding....jackpot! Of course I'm having a charging issue with it at the moment so all of this depends on making that work...but thats a separate issue.
The thing is now I have to decide what to get for me to replace the prime and I actually really like my prime. What I love about the prime largely comes from the keyboard dock. Besides the physical keyboard which is a must for me:
1. Extra battery in the dock
2. SD card slot in the dock.
3. USB port in the dock. I use all kinds of things here. USB flash drives, USB wired ethernet, external hard drives, USB input devices, and even multiple devices at the same time with a USB mini hub.
By Prime is unlocked and running Hairy Bean 2.3.1. So I want somthing new that gives me all that functionality I get from the ASUS keyboard dock, is running at least Android 4.2 out of the box, and has the potential to root, unlock and custom ROM later (probably after the warranty expires).
Ideas?

Ideas?

I wouldn't touch Asus tablets again after the mess they made of the Prime.
I know you want a dock so this doesn't really apply but if I was buying a new tablet any time soon I would probably get the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. The specs look great and I like the s-pen and the multitasking.

I suggest Nexus 10, but it has no dock as far as i know.
the only tablets with propitiatory docks are:
1. asus transformer series
2. iPad (BT though)
3. Microsoft surface (LAGGY)
4. Windows tablets (e.g. the lenovo yoga, dell XPS, sony ,etc)
personally, i would get
ONE: Asus PadFone just cause its technically the only tablet you can make 2/3G calls with
(and the asus padfone has 3 "transformable" states [phone --> tablet --> laptop/ultrabook)
PRICE: 1000
TWO Razer Edge PRO, its windows based, and we're android users, but that I7 core and dedicated grpahics is just amazing
PRICE: 1000-3000
I believe HP has just announced a new android tablet with a detachable keyboard as well. I think it is sporting a tegra 4 chip.

Not the TF700?
woot.com (and its various woot-ettes) have been running sales on TF300s and TF700s of late. They only do one item per day, but they have like ten thousand sites now, so you might get lucky.

Thanks for all the replies. I was looking hard at the HP with Android and the Tegra 4. Specs wise it looks really good. But....my wife ended up deciding she wanted a Windows based tablet. Not RT but a full Windows. So she ended up buying an HP Envy X2 which is really pretty nice (though a bit pricey at $619 on Amazon). I actually kind of like the thing though...she doesn't much like it now that she has it. Doesn't like Windows 8 at all even though we had been over it using a Surface Pro I have for work. Soooooo, today I downloaded Stardock's Start 8 which puts the Windows 7 start menu back where it belongs and lets you start directly to the desktop where most of her work is anyway. Basically I made it look as much like Windows 7 as I could without actually installing Windows 7.
Oh well. Looks like I'm sticking with my Prime for the foreseeable future. Which actually isn't a bad thing. I've got the latest and greatest from flumpster on there (HB 2.31) and it really works better than ever...actually it works the way Asus should have made it work in the first place. So, not a bad thing at all other than that I spent $619 on something my wife doesn't really like (hope she likes it better when she gets home today and sees how I Windows 7ized it for her).

How can you call a $600 tablet a "replacement" for a tf201? You can buy three tf201s for that and have a lot of change left over. I hate it when people compare the advantages of a $600 item with one that can be had for well under $200. Would you talk about Jaguars when looking for a Chevy replacement?

It depends if you was comparing a brand new Chevy to a Jaguar coming to the end of its life cycle.
I hate it when people make analogies and try to make it suit their need. Do you think the Prime was under $200 when brand new?

BS. A 1960's Jag is still worth far more than a Chevy that's being "replaced". (Obviosly the Chevy isn't new either.) And anyone who paid the original price for a tf201 has probably replaced it long ago. There are new 10" tab;ets hitting the market regularly that sell for under $300.
But personally, I'm perfectly happy with my tf201. It is running Android 4.3, gets very good battery life and has an Antu benchmark of 14,562. You'd have a hard time finding a brand new tablet for under $400 that could match those specs.

Are you still trying to make that analogy work ?
I paid original price for the tf201 and still have it and so do many others. There has been nothing until now that has really made me want to upgrade.
When people replace things it doesn't have to be the same value as what the old one is worth. I'm pretty sure he can spend what he wants.

Agree completely. Comparing what I could pay now for a two year old item with what a brand new one costs, doesn't make any sense. You basically have to compare what I originally paid for the Prime, new VS what I would pay today to get a similar new item. I just pulled up my Amazon.Com order for when I originally got my Prime to refresh my memory. Here was what was on it:
Prime: $474.99
Keyboard dock: $110.86
Case: $17.95
32GB Micro SD: $19.49
Shipping: $15.96
Total: $639.25 and I remember thinking I was getting a reasonably good deal at the time.
Take out the SD card and the case and it comes out to $601.81, or about the same price we paid for my Wife's new HP machine which came with the keyboard as standard. Everyone can decide for themselves if they like Windows 8. Hardware wise the Envy X2 is way faster than the Prime and it gets better battery life (similar configuration to the prime with a battery in both the tablet part and the keyboard).
But performance comparisons are not fair either. Of course the brand new Atom out performs the two year old Tegra 3. If I were buying an Android tablet today, I'd be looking for a Tegra 4 or similar,
Here is another way the analogy brakes down. Forget about an old Jag vs an old chevy. A better example is that I just bought a new 2013 Nissan truck. Now those have not changed all that much since introduced in 2005. I could probably buy two or three 2005's for what I paid for the 2013, but hey, I wanted a new one.
One final place where the analogy brakes down. A 1960's Jag qualifies as a "classic"/"vintage" where an outdated piece of computing hardware counts as "land fill" in pretty much everyone's book.
By the way, the whole purpose of this thread was not how much a prime or a windows tablet costs. The Idea was to find a newer, faster, better tablet that would also have all the features I like about the prime. Just saying.
PS: Flumpster, thanks for all your work on HB. It is because of you that the Prime is still relevant at all rather than (as I mentioned above) "land fill". It is also because of you and HB that I don't fee bad about hanging onto the Prime for a while.
