HTC One V gets Sense 4.0! - HTC Rezound

Has anyone seen the new HTC One V? Its a low level phone running an S2 Snapdragon at 1GHz and only 512MB RAM and it gets Sense 4.0!
Yet all along HTC was telling people that only their newest top end phones has the horsepower to run Sense 4.0. They've said that Sense 4.0 would only be available on S4 Snapdragons or Tegra3 phones.
I hope some of the devs can get their hands on the ROM from that HTC One V and extract the Sense 4.0 stuff from it. Surely if it runs smoothly on that old hardware it'll run great on our Rezounds.

This has been known for a while, the problem is that the One V doesn't have a 720p screen. The One XL is about the only One series phone with a ROM that can be ported for use on the Rezound.

The One V only gets Sense 3.6. They said it in the official announcement.

Really ? Could swore HTC One V going to MetroPCS with Sense 4.0 letmesee if i can find the article .
Edit: I stand corrected . It is 3.6 .
Even though here says sense 4.0 lol
http://htcpedia.com/news/HTC-One-V-Available-In-India.html?l_page=1&p_page=1
Nvm edit 3: it does have sense 4.0 video included here http://androidandme.com/2012/04/smartphones-2/htc-one-v-video-shows-off-unboxing-and-benchmark-scores/

Powerful hardware has nothing to do with Sense 4.0
They said they were trimming a lot of the fat out of Sense 4.0, which actually makes sense to run 4.0 on a lightweight phone instead of 3.6.

They're only gonna have Sense 4 on their new phones, because they want those to sell more, its a good selling point. Sucks for us, but nice little strategy by HTC, make the best ui they've ever made, and only make it available on brand new phones, meanwhile letting all their old high end phones stick with their "well this is good enough, I guess" software.

Sense is sense in my book.

Htc never said it will only be released on s4 and tegra devices, they said it will be released on the new one series devices as a selling point which makes sense(no pun intended). The one v also has a dumbed down version of sense 4, not the full version the one s/x get.

Like I've said before and others, Sense 4 is strictly a selling point for the One series.
Of course it'll run fine on our phones but that's not HTC's intention, at least right now.

According to the verge, sense 4 from the one v has been ported to other devices. So I guess the one v has sense 4.

Where's the love from HTC???
Anyone else feel frustrated as hell that HTC not only drags their feet on OTA upgrades, but never includes the latest Sense version? Like the Rezound for example, we will get upgraded to ICS, but the Sense stays at 3.6, mean while the new One series debuts with Sense 4.0 which the Rezound should easily run.

Do we? We currently have a hack that is pretty unstable and has a long way to go. (no offense to the devs that have put in a lot of great work) It will come eventually (hopefully sooner as I can't wait to put it on my rezound) but there is nothing like a company produced product (especially after tweaking) that comes from a development organization with all of the source code and knowledge in house. (Let's also not forget the system test group that beats it up for months before release)

maybe the newest update, but I ran the previous one and even setting everything up the way he instructed, I had to pull down the status bar to and back to get any click on the screen to register.
I appreciate what he is doing, but its still a frankenstein port of 3 different phones which usually means there will be some bugs.
Not that I care that much about sense 4, we won't get it because they have said its only for the new phones going forward. Its a business decision.

HTC has never updated Sense on there phones to a new version. Meaning if your phone has Sense 1.0 they would go 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc but you wouldn't see 2.0 on that device.
This is how HTC has always worked so not sure why people are still surprised by it.

Ice cream sandwich 4.0

Next week ice cream sandwich is coming. We will be able to install it on the Legend
without waiting HTC to release it for the Legend ?
How long will take to Cyanogen mod to release ice cream sandwich version?
Htc wont release it for legend, but as for cyanogen, I think as soon as the source for ics is avalible.

Yes but ICS will be compatible for all devices without the necessary manufacture mod for each device.
So we will be able to flash the original rom from Google?
But isn't it just for dual-core devices?

Actually they already developed that and called it "Dalvik" . It's what makes running the same app on completely different devices possible.
Still, for a hyper-visor to work you need a hardware abstraction layer and that brings us back to the problem I mentioned above.
The legend with the pass of the time are old... and I think that Ice Cream Dont Works fine in Legend... unless the legend stay overclocked...
Its My Opinion ^^
but you dont have to destroy our dreams
the legend is a grandpa,no doubt, but it WOULD be nice to even try to bring it to life. and thats the real deal, huh

I bet ice cream will barely run 'normal' on the desire, and that is a 1ghz phone, so where do we stand with our max clocked 806mhz?
I rather see more 2.3 roms with better looks and tweaks etc. then a 4.0 rom
But hey that just my opinion
I actually think 4.0 will run smoother then 2.3 due to the hardware acceleration, I think we have enough of gpu power.. I don't see why it shouldn't work
Google's statement:
If a phone runs 2.3, it will also be able to run 4.0
If only there would be a dev that is up to the job. That's the problem.
Also, if you're considering that everyone who had the Legend from day 1, their 2 year contracts are almost over and I think they would like a new phone as well ^^
There is no phone right now like our old legend. Compact, well built, everything that big ones have, legend has. Desire has the same GPU even.. Legend 2 would be nice..
I doubt they would do that
It's all about bigger screens nowadays (not a bad thing imo) but I have to admit, the Legend has a design that no other phone can compare with. I loved it when I had it in the old days!

Here in Canada, the only North American country who sold the Legend, we have 3 year contracts maximum (minimum, rather). Not saying I have one, but it's probably going to be a crappy feeling when everyone else abandons and you're stuck alone.

I Agree very strongly, my choice in the legend, was about the size, I upgraded from a Sony-Ericsson W595 so size was similar...
My wife got the DHD just after me, and it's TOOOOOOO big, not comfortable in my pocket at all.
If I had to choose a new phone to replace the Legend, it would currently have to be the HTC Rhyme, ok, its a bit bigger then the legend, but it is still smaller then the DHD, and its got some nice specs on it. Only problem is, I believe the Rhyme is only available on the optus network :-(

HTC on ICS

Here is what HTC had to say on ics updates to our devices...
We are excited about the latest update for Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and are currently reviewing its features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. Our goal for Android updates is to give every customer an improved user experience, which means balancing each phone's unique hardware, HTC Sense experience and the Android kernel. While our goal is to upgrade as many of our recent devices as possible, we are committed to maintaining every phone's performance and usability first. Please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans.

What engadget points out is very interesting. some of HTC's Sense features seem to be in ICS to an extent and kinda makes Sense a lil pointless. Less I'm missing something. Right now after going through ICS I'm trying to figure out what I will be missing/losing with Sense. That is beside the Sense app versions like camera, dialer and such which are differ.
Mm idk ICS looks really good as it is , so HTC should go back to stock as much as possible, I wonder if we can layout how we want to use are buttons now ? And if qHD will have nice support in the market finally

i don't think release of ICS is helping HTC at all. after viewing ICS UI, i don't see a reason to use sense anymore. it's starting to loose its selling points. unless they make a major upgrades on sense, HTC's future looks dark.(yes, i will get galaxy nexus soon as they release)

Sense improved on features, usability and appearance and if you watched the keynote last night, that was the same focus for ICS.

weather integration is something they will keep and the animations and just have it be an HTC Sense app and not so much of a sense overlay as in past.
as for the lockscreen, the new one takes a lot from htc sense 3.0 lockscreen im pretty sure and you can access apps form it.
again the more i look at ICS the more i lean toward going senseless as they hit the ball out with this upgrade. always a sense fan but can't imagine what they could do to this to make it better past the weather animation stuff really...
They should go with stock.
It would make updates faster.

If only this would become a reality, would rather have the option of being stock once ICS spreads. I guess it will be once DEVs develop a stock ICS rom
I would like an ICS aosp look with sense features, like the senseless rom im running now. However companies like HTC are all about making their mark on the software so i have a feeling their wont be an official update until theres an ice cream sensewhich..bad pun whoo!
HTC and Sense will never break up. They'll just come up with new ways to sell, they are actually pretty good at that. I just don't think you can have so many companies mass producing so many phones if they all ran vanilla android... it would be silly.
Besides, the sense widgets, weather and facebook integration are enough for me to stay. The facebook app is a resource hogging battery killing machine.. in fact, the android market as a whole is 85% junk... I'm thankful that HTC eliminates the need for at least a few apps.
With that said, I fully expect HTC/Sprint to totally rip us off when they give us ICS on the 3D. It likely won't have anything new for Sense and will be dumbed down.. will have the same Sense UI look.. making it hard to even tell we are even running ICS.
Sure hope CM gets 3D cameras and such working soon!

HTC is going to have to innovate sense to a very deep level to make sense relevant, but in the meantime I wont jump to another device just because it has ICS or its alittle faster, the Nexus Prime im not too hype on, its a SG2 with a dress on. Sense for now is cool but without innovation It will become pointless, P.s the only way I jump to a new device is the GALAXY NOTE on sprint with ICS then im all in. I need that 5.3 with a stylus thats love sorry for the sidetrack at the end of this post

htc sense maybe coming to prime

HTC seems to have launched a tegra3 device (indavur (misspelled on purpose)), and since we are many that waited for htc to make their tegra move, so we could get their "frontend", and now its finally happening.
a leak has seen the www some days ago, and it might be coming to a device near you.
anyways they say its 720p, so im assuming 1366x720 and not 1280x800 like we got, so graphics will probably need resizing but i think solutions exists for that.
anyways, lets hope it appears! (i am personally happy with htc sense, so im eager to get it and already got a flyer here as well)
Thanks, Dexter! Loved your work! Looking forward to seeing your magic on the Prime!
I have an HTC Sensation and I do everything I can to strip as much HTC Sense as I can from it.
Can't wait for CM9 for it.
i would love sense on the prime!

Phone Sense on tablets doesn't make any sense.
Even if someone ports it (not too much of a problem actually) it won't be usable.
The Sense UI doesn't scale well and is fitted to one specific resolution and screen size.
Scaling it up just looks awkward.
People shouldn't get their hopes up, it won't be the thing you expect.
Maybe we can port Tablet Sense from the HTC Vertex (aka. HTC Quattro), but that's still far away.
They actually are announcing a Teg3 tablet (the Vertex, formerly Quattro) on 2/27 at an HTC press conference at MWC. It's supposed to be available in March. That ROM would need a lot less tinkering than one from a phone.
Wow awesome. I love sense. As far as the phone goes, it's probably my next phone if it comes out on Sprint. I'm a tegra3 believer now since my Prime.

Nope, you missunderstood something there. There won't be an option to disable Sense/TouchWiz etc.
OEMs are only forced to include the stock themes, so 3rd party apps can use those themes and look the same on every rom
This has nothing to do with customizations like the Sense UI.
Awhh that's lame they should have to have that option!

you should get HTC Endeavor then, i might just in 6 months time when its launched in europe.
anyways the rom is tegra3 based , and from my experience with previous tegra roms , the tegra platform offers alot of options for porting between devices just like between the different htc platforms.
m_deejay has alot of experience from the htc platform, and im sure the virtouus team might just jump back on the tegra wagon soon.
about this build,
since we got no custom kernel, my options for changing scripts (init.rc) is limited and i will simply try this out on a tegra2 device first.
the framework require a different bootclasspath which i think a hijack script is needed for to fix it, if no custom kernel can be installed?
little OT,
why are blob's available on transformer(1), but not on "prime"? is it the sbk key that blocks kernel compiles?
Sounds like bloatware to me then if it don't run fast or smooth or good, people will try to blame tegra3 for it....they can keep it. Its a good look for phones and some of their Widgets look cool. If anything ill take the Widgets. They can keep the bloat UI.
Ok guys first let me say that swearing has no place on the forum. Second it is well known that Sense needs to have the HTC framework files so it only runs on HTC devices. This is why it is not ported to alot of other devices other then HTC devices.

[Poll] EVO 3D to get Sense 3.6 or Sense 4.0?

Hey guys. I know the HTC EVO 3D has been on the official update list by HTC for Android 4.0. Although they haven't clarified (to my knowledge) whether it will be upgraded to Sense 3.6 or Sense 4.0
Now initially I would have thought it would for sure be Sense 4.0 because we can easily run it, and it would make no sense not to. Then I saw someone post a comment saying saying that a lot of sense 4.0's features rely in the camera and our sensors don't support that. (Sorry I don't remember who posted this)
I thought what they said though was a valid point nonetheless. Anyway I want to know what all of you think about the update and what version you believe it will get (and why) This way we can all discuss and share ideas/information.
EDIT: its confirmed were getting 3.6
3.6 Here, but hope for either. LOL
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.
HTC PR Jeff Gordon said they were giving current devices the Sense 3.6 with Android 4.0 the other day when he was talking. sorry dont have a link.
but beside the point there is no way possible that HTC is going to release Sense 4.0 to anything already out. I was the one you were referring to probably in regards to the sensors and camera.
I watched 99% of their MWC event and it was 90% about the Sense 4.0 camera improvements they have made and how "ImageSense" has a dedicated Image Chip now and that coupled with the f/2.0 lens has allowed them to make all these HUGE strides in their camera area.
So without that image chip hardware and the f/2.0 lens theres no way getting Sense 4.0 on our devices. Least if you did get it on here then you would not have all the features and abilities they claimed to have like the quickness of taking pictures and clarity and such....
kinda sucks but it doesn't b/c now we know they addressed one of the issues some people used to b##ch the most about in regards to the hardware...

Alright that makes sense. It is a little disheartening. You would think they would update it to 4.0 without the extra camera features. Especially when the single core'd One V is getting 4.0. I know we will always get ports eventually, but those won't have 3D capability no matter what.
Thanks for sharing though. I am still going to hope for Sense 4.0 anyway (even though it's just wishful thinking) lol.

take it you just didn't read anything that I wrote above then....smh
My little rant aha
the One V specs?
1GHZ Single Core CPU
512MB of RAM
3.7 in 480x800
3G (no listed 4G compatibility)
And it ships with 4.0 out of the box.
The 3D
1.2 GHZ Dual-Core MSM8260 Proccesor
1GB of Ram
4.3 qHD display
4G and 3G
and will probably get sense 3.6? Kindof messed up. I mean I understand the whole camera aspect of it...but thats not ALL sense 4.0 is about. I mean yes it is a great big portion of it, but not everything.
My reasoning: The One S has a qhd display (same resolution and screen size of our 3d) so that can't be an issue, CPU, GPU, and RAM isn't really an issue.
The One X has a lower quality camera than the other 2 in the One line (although probably still far superior to our phones)
The only problems HTC should have a real tough problem with is 3D support and fixing the camera for our sensors.. which as a huge national company they should have the resources to do that for us the customer.
That being said I understand what sgt.slaughter is saying...I just like to rant
Maybe im making a bigger deal than it is, but its just a little upsetting. I feel like a samsung owner. That one might hurt a couple of you
i hope 4.0

visually 3.6 and 4.0 are not far off at all from what ive seen. The camera stuff was the headline feature of Sense 4.0 and they made it apparent in the event. besides that all thats left that sense 3.6 doesn't have is the beats integration and the dropbox stuff really...the camera is a big enough chunk to not get it when you take a step back and look at it all.
HTC confirmed that all the devices that are going to get ICS will be sense 3.5. Check their Facebook page all the information is there.
I'm just saying theres no reason for us not to get 4.0,HTC said them self they even slim down 4.0 for better performance. I remember when I had the evo 4g and it got gingerbread there was no new improvements on sense besides running gingerbread.

not reading as well....read the actual things that require to get Sense4.0 features they touted and youll see no current phone has the f/2.0 lens nor do they have the dedicated image chip both of which are vital to using Sense4.0 features they touted.
at this point those wanting 4.0 you can just edit the files to say you have 4.0 and you wont know any difference. Only thing possible your missing is dropbox, wifi sync manager, and full integrated beats...
There is a pretty big difference between 3.6 and 4.0. Lockscreen differences, keyboard, system apps like music, animations, and so on. It's more refined. 3.6 is basically 3.5 with ICS.
We will see fully working ports eventually though. Just as we did with the OG EVO and Sense 3.0/3.5.

I could have sworn they said that the Sensation elevate program users were going to get a Sense 4.0 beta, so I would then assume that the Sensation would get Sense 4.0, and therefore, so would we. I certainly hope so! Then again, the original Evo 4G has sense 3.0 ROMs, so i'm sure the wonderful developer community could get a 4.0 one working perfectly on our phones, in fact, there's already one in development!

Well unfortunately not. HTC just said 4.0 ICS not Sense UI. As stated here

haven't flashed either here on my phone so just going off photos here. only real diff looks like the rosie in 3.6 extends to the edges of the screen where it stops short on 4.0 right?

[Q] sense 5

So what's the deal, are we getting jb. 4.2 and sense 5 or what?
No, because you asked
Seriously, no one knows but HTC
And if we were to get sense 5, I more than likely will stay on sense 4+ since its much better

Haha I personally do not like sense 4(+) much at all. I think sense 5 will bring a much needed aesthetic upgrade. We'll just have to see about the function as well. Out of curiosity, what leads you to think sense 5 will be a failure? I'm just wondering if you know something that I may have missed.

I personally do not like the metro look that sense 5 seems to have, gives a windows phone vibe to it
Hopefully it won't be as bad as I think, I might end up liking it but the screenshots I've seen I do not like

It's very rare that HTC device get updated versions of Sense with newer firmware. But it does happen. All you can do is wait and find out......
I dont like sense 4 ... anyway it will be ported from Buttefly or M7 as the image leaks...thats the worst case just we have to wait

Porting it from the butterfly will be a pain, since the resolution is higher.
I've played around with it and its a pain to try and mess around with those pesky m10 files

I'm sure sense 5 will have more to it than the one screenshot that we've all seen. Would be very disappointing if the HOX+ doesn't get it. There's too much pessimism and not enough helpfulness on these forums lately, so I'm better off waiting silently I guess.

Maybe because sony doesn't use the m10 code since that's specific to HTC
Give it a shot, we will need the images from a phone with the same resolution or edit the code so it shrinks the images the right size, and we will need the software from a phone with a similar processor.

It's alot easer to port roms from one sony device to another. Sony favours using the same framework for all devices in the same generation. So the Xperia Z framework prob would of already contained the high res images.

Most probably not, only Buterfly and DNA will get the official upgrade as they have 2G Ram. Sense 5 will be officially out once M7 / Htc One is out which will be true very very soon, targeted for March/april !
Then will it be easy to port those to the OneX+, that should be feasible even if the resolution is not the same.
I hope we'll get Sense 5 because it looks very nice (I've seen some images).
If HTC doesn't release Sense 5 on older devices I'm definitly going to put a rom on my One X+.
well, this is a bit disappointing, it will make me wonder if I am going to remain loyal to HTC or not. I guess I'll just wait and see the news over the next couple of weeks.
We should see more of sense 5 today I believe!
OK, NOW I truly want sense 5, with all of what comes with it.. guess I'll ask my service provider if they do trade ins..
