[Q] Modem for AOKP? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hey guys got a quick question. My data is very weak running ICS AOKP My build number is: IMM76D but my baseband says I777UCKK6. Is that the correct baseband? My understanding was that the last three numbers and letters should be the same. If there is a better modem for me to use can someone point me in the correct direction?

Here are some modems look in the middle of the op. THEY WILL WORK FOR AOKP

This shoud do fine. THANKS for the quick responce and link!!

Baseband only affects the radio - and the baseband version is fully independent of anything else.
As long as it's a UC modem you're fine. I'm still running UCKH7 (UCKK6 led to high battery drain for me. But others have had great results with it.)

I flashed UCPLC5 with AOKP, and have had pretty good results with it thus far.

Same here, I seem to get better bandwidth/reception with UCPLC5, and have not noticed any extra battery drain in the 4 or so days I've been using it.

[Q][Telus][Modem/Radio] Which is best modem/radio to use with latest CM7 Nightly ROM?

Hey...
Like many, been reading this site for years and years... but now its time I start posting. I have a couple a minor questions that I'm sure some of you guys will have no problems in answering. Thanks in Advance.
I just flashed CM7 Nightly #63 galaxymtd on my telus fascinate 3g+, as well, the TK-Glitch kernel v11. It took me the better part of a day to get it down pat, but its awsome. Thats all I got to say about it. Thanks to everyone who was involved in the development.
I have an odin package. The filename has JL3 in it, so I'm assuming its the JL3 modem. It does work when I used it when I was stock.
The only thing I'm wondering right now is... can I flash the stock modem with this CM7 rom/kern.?
I've been reading about the EC09/EC05 modems... from what I can make out, I can't use those right? because they're for Verizon.
Anyone have any suggestions, know of a guides, info of a modem(s) I can use with my rom/kern. combination? or how I can distinguish between the different modems and if they will work with telus.
Thanks
James
Just to revive this question, I just flashed the latest nightly and glitch's v12 beta. and I agree, hands down amazing. Thank you for all the dev's involved. One thing though is that reception is terrible and I was wondering what modems work as well.
Thanks
Dylan

I too want to know this?
I flashed the telus stock jl3 modem after I tried out CM7 nightly 66. Had no problems sending/receiving text or using wifi/3g
Tried calling myself and my phone rang, but I didn't test the call quality. Flashed back to darkys before recieving any calls, so I can't vouch for it, but I don't imagine it would be any worse/better.
I also flashed the JL3 modem right up until I was using the late 70's nightly's. I had no problems. I also flashed the KC1 modem and found it to be good as well.

[Q] Vibrant on AT&T Qs

Hello everyone! I am brand new to the world of custom roms. Please laugh, but be helpful!
I am an AT&T customer, I received my Vibrant on Friday and have been learning plenty thanks to this site since then. I still have a lot to learn though, and if anyone could answer a few questions I would be very grateful.
I installed my first custom rom today. Bionix 1.3.1. So far it's great. It doesn't have all the Tmo bloatware that came on the stock eclair. I installed this rom because everyone said the GPS was great, it is very stable, good performance and good battery life.
So far, I have not been able to get the GPS working. Is this because I have an ATT Sim in the Vibrant? I am a total noob with this stuff, please don't laugh! I am not sure if the satellites are branded to certain companies or what (fill me in!). I have read that there are apps you can download that can help your GPS, but I am wary until I figure out if the Vibrant is incompatible with ATT satellites.
Can someone please explain in laymens terms what a Kernel is? Bionix came with Voodoo installed. To my understanding, Voodoo helps with audio and video display. But when I try to open the Voodoo app, it says that it is incompatible with my Kernel. How do I get a kernel that will work well with Bionix? (Again, sorry for the noobtalk.)
I'm sure I will have more questions in the coming weeks. Thanks in advance to being such a helpful community (you guys really are from what I have seen here!)
Anyone have some advice
I'd be happy to assist you. All you need to do on your phone is do some GPS fixes. I forgot which ones got my GPS working for my phone but Bionix GPS did not work out of the box. I remember I had to either download a GPSfix or do this
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/07/samsung-vibrant-suffering-gps-issues-quick-fix-available/
I remember the GPS was working great on the Bionix until I switched to different ROMs. You can load any ROM you want but be cautious of what you want out of your phone. Something that looks really nice and productive may give you horrible battery life and GPS.
That's a pretty old article. My phone was made in June 2011. Bionix is supposed to having a working GPS outright. Are you sure this isn't the case?
I remember using it and it worked. But I forgot what I did to the GPS because it was so long ago since I've used Bionix. You can look around for GPS fixes.
Hmm ok. Any advice as far as the Kernel/Voodoo is concerned?
Bali, Bullet, and Overstock are good for battery life and smoothness.
People say Bali is the best but I find that my phone overheats a lot and at times becomes unresponsive. Again, each vibrant is different in how it handles kernels. You have to try some of these yourself to see which one is best for your vibrant.
Has anyone been able to get GPS to work using a Vibrant on ATT's network?

I tried that and it worked. Will test and get back
How do you find out what modem you are using? I can find the Kernel in About phone but the modem is not there.

Happy to help
I don't know about Bionix, I'm using Project V, Bali 1.8.8 kernel, KB5 modem with no issues.
I decided to try Bali 1.8.8 Kernel with KB5 modem.
I am trying to flash these using Odin. I think the KB5 goes in the Phone slot, and Bali goes in the PDA slot? When I click PDA and try to select the Bali ZIP it doesn't show up, it looks like the only file extensions available are .tar .md5 and .smd
What is a .pit, why do I need it? Where can I find one?
I'm trying to use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7152078&postcount=2 but I'm not having much success.
I like to use the thanks button
Managed to flash them using SGS flasher. Still not sure what some of this stuff means. It's fun toying though
In the future, just use Clockworks in ROM Manager to flash your kernels. I find it easier to just install from zip (zip name of your kernel). You will still have the same ROM just a different kernel.
That's exactly what I ended up doing. Battery life is terrible. But I guess I should expect it.
I have a question about voodoo. From their site it says you can get a better image, (less blue screen, not as sharp of a resolution so no halo around text, etc). Do I need to use a specific kernel for this? I thought it was an app but couldnt find it in the app store.

[Q] Signal Strenght Reports Wrong

Hi there.
I got this problem which has been annoying me for quite a while, where the signal strenght given in dbm, is reported wrong. It can only show 4 values:
-89dBm
-95dBm
-101dBm
-107dBm
Even when i am close to a transmitter, it gives me -89dBm, where my previous GS would show -51dBm.
I assume this is only being shown as -89 but in fact i have better signal, but is there a way to fix this?
I found some posts on xda with others having the same problem but no solutions found yet.
ROM, Kernel & Modem changes have no effect, they all show me -89.
Thanks,
Ben
Whick firmware does the phone have now? Because i don't have this problem
I have ran Slim ICS, Hydrog3n ICS and now it is on Resurrection Remix.
All roms gave the same results, the current modem is NELP2, though i have tried like 7 which gave me the same result. Also, now i am running Siyah kernel, but i have ran Fluxi, CM standard kernels etc.
My neighbour's phone which is running WIUI seems to also have the same behaviour as mine.
I'm aware this thread is old as hell. But hey there's no answer to the question, I'm having the exact same problem. Even driving to the tower I still get exactly 89dBm when my other S2 goes around 60dBm

It will be down to your modem version which has been updated at some point by a rom. Go to the modems thread (use search) and try another.

Radio Needed For Cyanogen And Samsung Galaxy S2?

Hello, I've flashed the Cyanogen mod for my Samsung Galaxy S2? I've been using it, it works fine.
I'm wondering, do I need to flash a radio? If so, which one? I've seen the links of radios from the Wiki page of Cyanogen under Support Downloads, just don't known which one to use or if I'm supposed to.
Thanks for your help.
Radio is not changed by CyanogenMod.
If you have no call, sms or data issues then i dont think you need to change

OK, thanks for your help.
I have successfully installed this rom. I think it's the most amazing jelly bean rom for galaxy s2 at the moment. I like its smoothing and quick response. feel a bit warm at the back and the battery is losing 1% at every minute while wifi is on. Over all is great. Cheers!
Actually, I've been experiencing data connection problems. My phone works, but it won't connect to 2g/3g for internet.
Should I try switching radios?
If so, which one is recommended? Or do you just try them at random?
Thanks again
On first boot normally can't get mobile data to work because APN was not configured properly (or the list empty), after a reboot mobile data will work again. If it doesn't, then you have to key in the APN manually.
For radio/modem, since there are no changelog released and nobody know what are the differences among them, it is assumed that the latest one will be better.

first and foremost asking or recomending which ROM/KERNEL/MODEM ,is against XDA rules, since all phones are different due to various reasons , hence if u have a an issue with ur modem u have to try a cpl of them on ur own and see the one suits u the best.
link for the same below.

OK. I'll try a few different radios. I see a list of links in the Cyanogen Wiki page of under Support Downloads.
Thanks for the quick replies!

It sounds like your apn settings are messed up. Try to reboot twice and then try. If that doesn't work, you will have to find the settings and input them manually.

Thanks everyone! The radio did it!
I flashed this radio:
galaxys2.radio-XXKDH-signed
Now, the data, 3G, works great.
I've been experiencing an issue and have read several post about RADIOS on the SGS2.
I flashed my mobile with the nightly 10.2 CM and after that it started to ask me for "SIM network UNLOCK" Which I can't unlocked, thought it was the version issue so I dl a the newest one and same issue, I tried the ICS stable 9.1 and same issue.
I've read something like radios on the CM support part. Which I dunno where is it yet . If I need to flash it and u guys can help me out to pick up the correct one I'll appreciate it. my model of SGS2 is the i777 from AT&T.
May I install NELP on my CM 9.1? how? where can I get the files to do it?

What phone do you have? This is the thread for the i777 S2 variant, and at least one of the modems you mentioned are for the i9100 variant (don't recognize the others you list).
You can only use modems designed for your device, so if you have an i777 see the link directly above your post.

GPS and Modem versions - test

I recently had najor problems with gps reception and locking.
I flashed many different roms in trying to solve it.
I searched the forums and saw many suggestions, all of them spoke about tweaking or using a different gps.conf files.
Tried many of them and nothing helped.
Then I flashed a rom that changed the modem also and what do you know, gps was working again. Good reception and fast locking time.
It also was a sammy based rom and not an aosp/aokp/cm rom.
The thing is that I think the modem was the main solution. Maybe the sammy rom helped too since I did get a response from someone saying that there is a piece of software in sammy roms that is needed by the gps and can not be integrated in the aosp aokp cm roms.
Since then I am kind of reluctant to try another rom, maybe an aosp one with this modem and see if the gps works good.
Maybe a group of people can check this, me included, and report thier results with different modems and roms.
Since I use my gps daily it realy was a difficult time for me when I experienced these problems.
So this topic may become a good guide to people with s2 gps problems.
My problematic modem was xms2 while good ones were xlq6, kh3 and xlph. Also on a friend s2 xls8 worked fine.
A good thing will be to include your location as results may vary according to it.
My location is Israel.
Thanks

It's not the modem, GPS has nothing to do with which modem you use.
It's probably more with the fact you went back to a Sammy based rom instead of aosp/aokp/cm

From my experience with embeded modems they usually contains the gps receiver as well, this is why I believe there is a connection but it can be also be related to the rom.
This is why I asked other users to try it out so we can get more statistics on the issue.
Thanks

I did some testings today and here are my resuls.
It seems tat there ae two problems one is the modem used the other is the rom.
Changing the modem did help a lot on aosp/aokp/cm roms in terms of reception and locking time. It seems though that after dalvik wipe it will take much longer to lock the firsttime, then it is much faster took my device to lock about 17 to 30 seconds while on the first time it took as mch as 2 minutes.
But on these roms it seems that less satellites are viewed and used, they only managed to use 4 or 5 ay most when there where between 7 to 9 satellites visible.
Sammy roms used all or most of the satellites visible, which led to a more accurate locking.
Good modems where KH3, XLPH, XLQ6, XLS8. I believe that KH3 was the best followed by XLPH.
Bad modem XMS2.
ROMS Avatar rom for aosp/aokp/cm based, ROMs4 and vivik for sammy based.
Regards and hope it will be of use for someone.

I believe you have to flash a modem designed for your device specifically.
I suppose you will find it in your device forum.
