How do you calibrate the touchscreen in ics?
the calibration.ini trick does not seem to work

Do the calibration through CWM. Run the "echo ..." command here after an "adb shell".

no such directory as /sys/devices/platform/tegra_touch on ics

I know. Which is why I suggested doing it using CWM. See post #2, above, again.

I *did* read that - but I have only the faintest conception
of what an adb shell is. I don't particularly want to go to
the trouble of installing the sdk for which I have no need.
That's why I *hoped* the simpler way in the original post
might work.

FYI: I don't think you need to install the entire SDK just to run ADB. The adb executable (and, its libraries) alone should suffice--it does on Linux.

There is a simpler method now. Go through that post again. I've got a zip file there which you can flash using CWM.

that's great. There's a warning about which kernels work but
I assume that the kernel in ics is OK, right?
Edit: sorry, you meant the CWM kernel so that's OK
Edit2: and it works fine - many thanks

coby 1125 ics touch screen calibrate
Could any of you please help. I upgraded the coby from gb to ics using the various techniques listed. I was eventually successful, however, I can't really use it because the touchscreen seems to be backwards, and mirrored. If I'm not mistaken, it seems calibrated for the 8127, where mine is 1127 10" widescreen. the "about" displays it as Model# mid8127, o.s. ver 4.0.3. I can't use any aps to correct since no file manager is present, and it is next to impossible to type through get jar. I couldn't follow the directions on this thread keenly, so please explain step by step. Though I got ics to work, somehow, I'm a rookie, and don't understand tech stuff that much. I have access to ubuntu 12.04, and windows, so I can connect the tablet, which I have done, but I don't understand how to use abd, nor cwmmanger. I tried, but got confused, though I was on windows 7. Please give me the steps in plain terms how I may use ts_calibrate, or any other method to c orrect the touch issue. If there were a way to access the start menu or file responsible and edit that. Such was the case on another tablet of mine the wm mid8650, where a similair issue occured installing uberoid. I had to edit for the 8" screen vs the primary 7"
Thanks!

You should talk to the guys who created the ICS for your tablet. They're the ones who'll be able to help you.

The steps in this thread are specific to a) the Tegra 2 Harmony-based tablets manufactured by Malata (eg. the ViewSonic gTablet) and b) to the stock or stock-derived kernels for those tablets.

I see, missed that. Thanks anyway, but the version is initially from coby germany i presume, but I may have picked mine up from a thread link, and since I've visited many souces, I'm not sure. I could contact coby germany, but not sure how forthcoming they would be. Thanks anyway! I think this needs to be done on sd card some how.

Thank you, rajeevvp!!!! Flashing the zip file through CWM has definitely made touch sensitivity miles better. Working great now!!!

UTILITY: SuperNooter 0.1 - Root your NC + Superuser

In addition to enabling ADB, SuperNooter will also mount the NC /system partition and copy over Superuser.apk and the su binary. This means you do not need z4root! You should see Superuser in your Extras/App Drawer after booting from the SD card.
Tested with WinImage under Windows and dd under Ubuntu.

Thanks for making things even easier!

Do we just write this to the sdcard like nooter? Install it like nooter? Do we need to wipe anything if we are previously rooted with nooter? Any adb commands needed?
A little more info and/or a tutorial would be really helpful

Yup...do exactly what you did with nooker only use this image. Same steps.
Ok but do we need to wipe anything if we already used nooter? I don't want to brick my NC. Who is going to be the first to try it out? I would but I don't know anything about programing so if I messed it up I would be screwed
You can use supernooter on top of an existing nooter to gain Superuser. I would not try it if you already have Superuser (why would anyone?).
Mistar Muffin...you are the man!!!!
Just picked up a NC today and have been prepping for the past couple days...and pleasantly surprised that the steps have diminished with this.
Thank you!!!

OK. The other utility Mistar Muffin created does not "brick" devices.
(1) I've yet to see a NC truly bricked. Only people who crap their pants when things don't go perfect.
(2) The script that is having problems is not Mistar Muffin's script. It is one that someone else (rboatright) created for people who run Winblowz and it is only based on Mistar Muffin's script.
Seriously folks... You REALLY need to watch the tone here and at a minimum, get your facts straight.

Setting me straight? LOL I simply asked if it is safe. I didn't need setting straight all you had to do was say yes its safe and that you didn't write the program people are having problems with. The other thread you started has people in it that are getting "bricked" devices. I didn't know you didn't write the particular program that was causing this. I was not implying you were doing anything wrong I just don't want a "bricked" device.

Novarider, I think that it's just the frustration of people coming on the forum and making posts with big bold red letters that say "YOU BRICKED MY NC!!!" and the like... As many others (including myself) have already stated, it's very difficult to brick a NC. I've yet to do it and I've done some VERY off-the-wall stuff with mine. My personal frustration comes from those two things.
So, sorry if you felt wrongly persecuted by my post. It wasn't directed only at you but at others who have screamed, yelled and lamented about one thing or another "bricking" their NC.
Friends?
Fair enough.
I have a question about this Utility. If I install this will I be able to gain access to the data folder so I can drop some apks into it with root explorer? I would like to be able to use a different keyboard and I was reading I need to be able to rename a keyboard and drop it there for it to work.
I had used adb to install superuser but it didn't do anything once installed so I deleted it

This should do it since the script installs Superuser and Root Explorer can perform the functions mentioned (you may need to hit the button on the top of the program for R/W). As with any mod - proceed with caution or find a step by step to guide you.

I got the droid-x multi-touch keyboard working a few days ago but that was several resets ago as well. Things didn't go exactly perfect for me and there were several reboots where I didn't have a keyboard at all. I can't remember the exact steps I took but, I eventually side-loaded the droid-x keyboard and it worked. I'll tinker more tonight on that. It's beer-thirty now though!

[Q] How to root my tablet without computer? Not a noob Q..

Mine is a froyo 2.2.1 device (ViewSonice VB730), I tried z4root, instant root, DPRoot, and many many many rooting apk but it is not working, some of them are FC or some of them are stucking in "attempting to apply root"
I tried to use SuperOneClick but since I can't find a suitable driver for it, so when I use "adb devices", the list is empty.
I also checked out about some article about how to manually root a devices with PC, seems I have to copy the necessary file first to /data then run the exploit. Since I dont have the driver, I tried to do it with Terminal Emulator and tried to grand access right of /data but failed.
cd /data/
$ ls
ls: can't open '.' : Permission denied
$ chmod 777/data
chmod: /data. Operation not permitted
What should I do
Still no one answer this..
Sorry, I cant help you. Just interested in the right answers.
Not sure but if you can find a copy of Z4Root it might work on Froyo

I heard about this method before, but the main problem is I can't find the suitable driver for the device so I am not able to perform any action related to the adb.. can you tell me which one you have choosen which one for your Creative ZiiO 7"? Thanks a lot!
few days a pump
I'm going to say I have the same problem with the VB730. I wish to root this thing but can't seem to make it work (in spite of hours and hours of work). Programs I've tried:
Z4 Root
Universal Androot
Instant Root
SuperOneClick
I've also attempted to do it by hand. No dice. I have installed File Expert which allows me to see all the files including the system files, however, I cannot write to these files nor change them without at least temporary root access.
After looking around though, I think the problem seems to be the same as the Creative ZiiO tablet in that there is no driver available for the USB debugging and even once you get those files, the Android system files aren't in normal places so you'd have to figure out a workaround for it.
I tried following the guide here and I believe this would work but for the problem of the USB driver. I wrote to ViewSonic asking for a solution to get my USB Debugging to work but they have no idea what to do it seems. Or they just don't care enough to figure it out.
I tried using the PID, VID and MI for the ZiiO as per the guide (despite it being for a different vendor and product) which got the driver to install and recognize the VB730 as an Android device (when first installed, it came up with a bad parameter but I restarted the device, reinstalled the driver and the problem disappeared) but I am unsure where to make and put the adb_usb.ini file as there isn't a ".android" file located on the VB730 (there IS a ".android_secure" folder on the write-able portion though). So, when checking for devices through ADB I get a readout that says no devices are connected.
Anyone have any ideas on what else I (we) could try? Thanks both for the help already given and any still to come!

Finally!!! A method to regain root access for .21 WITHOUT Unlocking

I have not seen it posted here but wolf849 has put together a guide to downgrade so you can downgrade, root then upgrade to .21 all without the need for root access or unlocking.
I linked below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628
Thanks! I stupidly updated to .21 right away when I first got my prime and regretted it ever since. Finally I can get some use out of this!
Man this is GREAT news.
Even a noob like me has down graded from .21 down to .15
Used Vipor Mod to reroot - Thank you Vipor Boy
Intalled OTA Rootkeeper and backed up my root
reinstalled the .21 updated
restored root!!!!
Thank You Wolf

It worked! Downgraded to .15 from .21 and have now managed to install SuperUser and SU binary. Waiting for OTA Rootkeeper to install before upgrading to .21 again.
Finally I can fix some of the bugs that I've had to put up with due to Asus' incompetence, such as the bad I/O performance and shocking web browser performance.
Awesome, I've been looking for a solution for a good while. I'm glad this is confirmed. Hopefully someone will update the reference guide to link it to wolf's guide!

Well, we want the following blob, as it has the exploit that allows us to gain root.
WW 9.4.2.15 - MD5: 55122257B30E9376DF463F3C1A8BA702 - (or zip)
That's the "world wide" version, I'm not sure which firmware locale you should have as you're Canadian? Check you "About tablet" section with your tab settings and see which firmware you have installed.
There's threads around which tell you how to extract blobs from the firmwares on Asus' website, so if you need a different version to the world wide blob, you could extract your own.
Just follow his method 2, I did and it was very easy as long as you have adb set-up.

Yes, that's correct. However I would recommend ensuring you use the blob for your region. The one Wolf links to is the WW (world wide) version.
A little help for Android noob, please. I read that I need ADB enabled.
What is that? I looked on Google Play, and there is no app specifically named ADB.
Is that the checkmark "Allow USB Debugging" listed under Developer Options?
Do I also need to install something similar on my Win7 PC.
If I can figure out this ADB stuff, I think I'm good to go.
Thanks,
bob
Edit: Will we be able to use this same technique when they come out with their new update....or is it better to wait till that arrives?

ADB is a tool that comes with the Android SDK, so you need to install the SDK onto your laptop and install the SDK Tools and Platform Tools. Then edit your path variable so that your command line know's where to find the adb executable. You might also have to install Java development kit, I'm not sure if the Android SDK manager moans if you don't have it installed.
There's easier ways of using ADB, by just downloading the .dll and .exe and referencing them via command line but I always recommend having a full SDK tool install and learning about ADB as it's a god send.

Like I said, go to "About Tablet" in your tablet settings and there's something called a "Build Number". Mine says IML74K.WW_epad-9.4.2.21-20120323 - the initials stipulate which region firmware you have, in my case "WW" aka World Wide.
If anyone can locate a US blob please let me know, I've been searching on the forums for a .15 US blob to no avail and no luck at all.

Double Power DOPO M975 Root Help

I recently recieved a Double Power M975 9" tablet as a gift. I have been unable to find any information regarding rooting this tablet.
I am not a total n00b, but rooting is not my forte. I can follow instructions and make logical connections well enough to do a root, but I am honestly at a loss for how to root this thing.
I don't know what all information is required for someone smarter than I to figure it out and relay the steps, but here's the basic info of the Tablet.
Double Power M975 (aka DOPO)
Android Version 4.04
Kernel 3.08+ (also says [email protected] #99, dunno if that's important)
Build Number A9 v01b
Internal Storage is 0.98Gb, with NAND Flash of 5.27Gb, and I have a 32Gb Micro SD card in it.
9" Screen
If anyone knows how to root this thing, or if you need more info, please let me know below.
Thanks in advance.

I'm actually surprised there isn't more info or already a guide for this specific tablet, as it's available at Walmart and online, it's cheap and is the best option in its price range for size and the fact that is has Google Play pre installed. It's not a powerhouse, to be sure, but it has been around long enough that I thought someone would know how to root it already. I just wish I knew enough about rooting Android to figure it out myself.

I'm still not having any luck finding any info on rooting this specific device, or even generic root for 4.04.

Was in the same boat as you, so did some poking around the past few days. Just managed to root my Double Power M-975.
First problem was getting ADB drivers installed for the tablet. I found baudi's pdf that did it for me (attached below). Followed that, until the actual rooting at the end. To root, I used SferaDev's Root Rk29 Toolkit (also attached).
Hope this works for you too!

DUDE!!! Thank you so much! It totally worked!
For anyone who reads this, know that the linked .pdf is out of date. The majority of it is still valid, however the adb_usb.ini file does not exist. You will have to manually create it in the listed location (make sure to remove the .txt extension and make it an .ini) and the sdk manager file does not exist. You can access the sdk manager through eclipse.exe in the Eclipse folder.

You must have downloaded the ADT Bundle. I did too the first time.
On the Android SDK website if you click "Download for other platforms" then under "SDK tools only" select the zip file for windows you will get the package referred to in the pdf.
I also had to go into device manager and manually update the driver via the method described in the pdf.
The more you know...
Okay so how come I'm the only one not having any luck with this? I'm new to the whole rooting thing BTW...

I was having problems with loading Android ADB USB drivers on my computer by way of methods found for this post but found that USB drivers loaded correctly when I installed PDAnet+ for the computer. So if you are having problems installing Android ADB USB drivers give pdanet+ a try

Hi, I know u posted a while back. I tried this on my M975, but my PC doesn't install the driver; it says incorrect line on INI file . Would u be willing to post your INI so I can see if we got the same format? Also, could u please explain how u used the root kit to actually root? Thnx.
Hey all.
I have a DOPO EM63 7" tab, and I'd like to share how I rooted it. I figure most of the DOPO devices will be the same.
1.) Install JDK, Android SDK (the zip file {choose download for other platforms}) and do everything else in steps 1-12 from the pdf in this thread.
2.) Go here (xda link) and do steps 2-11
3.) Laugh about how easy it was.
If anyone can't look at the pdf and other thread, I can post full steps.
It works. Out of every method I've tried, this one worked.
I have to add, some steps are outdated (ie. Step 7 from the link: just click "Root" on the pc screen)
And yes, the program is in Chinese - but it is easily understood (everything you need is in English)
Also, I don't know if the Moborobo program is necessary (seeing as we have drivers already) but it doesn't hurt to use it anyway.

I get to the step where I press root on the comp while it's open on my computer, an the program crashes and I fail to get root.....any clue?
EDIT: For those of you with a DOPO em63. It took a lot of research and digging, but I found an app called RootGenius. Very simple program, I ran it and it worked.
Here is the post, it's here on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/gen...uble-power-em63-7-4-2-2-t2811412/post54045765.

That's awesome! I actually cracked mine (a single tear rolls down my cheek) but a relative gave me hers, which is an identical model (tear dries up instantly), so I'll try this as soon as I can. Will let you all know what happens.
I'll check my build, too.
Thanks for the info!
EDIT: Please make that your signature ("Oh happy day!"). That would make me very happy.

[Q] Rooting an SH-02E

Anyone know how to root a Sharp SH-02E (ICS 4.0.4)? Even a temporary root is fine, I only want to install a particular apk in /system/app.
Many thanks.
I am looking for the Sharp Aquos Zeta root also, not for me but for my friend
I'll subscribe here and repost if I find something somewhere else.

Tried and failed.
There's a discussion on a Japanese BBS that I think is onto something. Unfortunately there's a stupid rule here that means I can't post a link to it. The page title is '【ROM焼き】docomo AQUOS PHONE ZETA SH-02E root1' and it should be the top result on Google for 'sh-02e root'. The fun starts at post 75.
If we can just get ROOT and Custom Recovery on this device - it simply becomes the most powerful and advanced communicator in the world.. However no root - no life..
Two things:
Any luck with a custom recovery yet?
And can anyone dump the kernel and stock rom?
Happy to give it a crack...

it is currently impossible to upgrade this phone out of Japan.
i am still on 01.00.03
I have a sh203 and I would like to root my phone also

Arrgh, this is so frustrating. You look on the 2ch thread and you can see they've done it. Temp root, MIYABI permanent root, they've done it all. The instructions aren't too hard to follow but I cannot for the life of me find the password (キーワード) required to download the files from axfc.net. If I had those files I could root the phone and post a guide here in English. For goodness sake it's staring me right there in the face and there's not a thing I can do about it. And of course because this is XDA, I can't even post you a link to the thread. It's the same thread title as earlier. You want to start from post 542 onwards, if you want a try yourself.

yes , please guide me how to root the phone permantly , thanks a lot !!
OK I've made some progress. I've got a temporary root, and am three hex numbers away from a full root. You'll need
The Sharp USB drivers, that are on Sharp's developer site.
ADB, as usual
The guide itself, which I can't like to. Post 672 on the 2ch thread.
The extra files, likewise. Post 680.
.
It's well written and pretty straightforward. Only minimal use of Google Translate will be necessary.
In the guide you'll find three lines of the form
Code:
./acdbwritevalue <address> <value>
where <address> and <value> are hexadecimal numbers.
The problem is that the guide is written for build number 01.00.05, the latest one. Unfortunetely I'm stuck on 01.00.03, so while the <value> numbers are the same, the <address> numbers are differrent, and I need to find the right ones. If you're on 01.00.05 feel free to go through the guide and share your results. Alternatively, if you know how to force the phone to update without being in Japan on Docomo, please share that too.

Thanks a lot. Luckily I came to Japan for Vacation and was able to find someone else to lend me a Usim card to update. DoCoMo are worse than Motorola, Apple and ATT when it comes to restricting your phone. Hell, I can't even use the native FM function without DoCoMo. How can Sharp expect to come out of the hole of bankruptcy when doing this sort of business? Look at the crappy Samsung company. Awful phones that everyone buys because they decided to be "untied" to companies at the beginning and for that reason they owned the market.
If Japan is really serious into getting its technological market back, better start uncopying the USA practice of enslaving their phones and tablets to telecomunication companies.
It's a shame that the best phone right now, the Sharp Aquos Zeta Sh-02e, with its awesome new screen and specs, is going to the trash as if it was a failure, just because they don't make deals with companies outside Japan.
16MPixel CAMERA!!! IGZO ultra clear screen!!! Quad Core!! 2gb Ram!! all the specs of all the other phones plus like 30 that none of them have!! A total shame, Sharp!
Find it carefully and you will find a good guy have written a script for temp root, I used the script to have my SH-02E rooted.
And, as far as I can read the topic, the unlock file is for NAND crack and may write to recovery area.
I don't test that coz of warranty, the reason I want to root is to put some message backup back(something like LINE) and remote control (VNC server for example)
And, yes, you can find the temp root solution for both 1.0.4 and 1.0.5, but no 1.0.3, good luck!
Do you have some files for rooting sh02e 1.00.04

Hi rotalume
thanks for the note... can i ask a favor? i really need some help to install the SH-02E driver in windows.
tried to download the file from sharp's web, but after executing the install exe file, a bundle of unreadable signs come out, and i check my device manager, there is not SH-02E USB handler or SH-02E modem. I just want to make use of Helium (backup) to extract / restore apps and data...
thank you for your help in advance.
P.S. I guess to get the temp root script pushed to SH-02E, this driver is essential as well.
thanks again

The one you've installed is not ADB Driver, check ADB driver at developer site(I'm to young to post a link )
File name will be given as this form : usb_driver_SHARP_r6.10.zip
Download and extract, then install the driver by device manager.
And, I've used Carbon before but in vain coz of ADB driver(the author had told me), I don't know if this issue has been solved.
For the files, sorry guys, I've found someone at other forums has used them for commercial purpose(it's a shame that ppl of my country is included), so the best I can give is to tell you the clue.
You can post your question and I will do my best, but no file will be provided atm.

I was able to find and download that driver by just selecting the name you wrote and making a search on Googl. It was the very first result. thanks a lot. Although I would love the name of the script or the title of the page you downloaded it from.
Thanks a lot.
