What on earth?
On your Sprint Evo 3D, you're trying to use
- Clear WiMax 4G (not Sprint's)
- on the Boost Mobile network
- with a Comcast modem
- to play video games
This makes absolutely no sense -- slow down, son! What exactly are you trying to do here?
If you mean you just want to get your 4G hotspot working (regardless of provider), you obviously shouldn't use the built in Sprint hotspot (even the hacked one). You're going to have to screw around with Wifi Tether for Root (google it) or Barnacle, potentially in ad-hoc mode. Some tools (including the official hotspot tool) and some tethering modes pretty much tell the WiMax tower to assign a new IP to the broadcast, effectively giving your computer or laptop a distinct IP from the phone. This is why they don't work, and it's also how the company finds out. Clear probably sees this secondary IP request produced by the tethering app, notes that it isn't the IP configuration you set up with them (or paid for), and blocks your service.
Your solution? Get the phone working again, then use a different form of tethering or a different mode. Ad-hoc mode (Barnacle) and wired tether (PDANet) are practically guaranteed to work, unless Clear has a way of sniffing packets for routing protocols.

So what im running is HTC evo 3d on Boost Mobile and i added a Clear account its fast but when i tether it wont let me gives the error ? ive read your suggestions/instructions and im a bit lost so any more help you can provide is cool! PLEASE ADVISE! thanks

just use barnicle tether or wifi tether
they work fine with phones running on clear.
I know thats not a seamless integration but you can try custom roms as well....
I usually just use wifi tether it seems to be better for "boosted" phones
esp the ones i get on clear

well thanks for the help but i am running custom thats all ill run! im on Steal25 now and ive used the android tether before and it just seems not to like me ive always had better success with the hacked sprint hotspot! but i am desperate as if i cant get it fixed then its no purpose to have the clear account as i got comcast at home but when on the go i'm N THE NEED FOR SPEED! also as far as Barnacles it's always worked great but i guess i forgot about it Either Way i am glad for the responses and input to this problem
PS
can you tell me what you connected your phone to clear as ??? mine is labeled a intel handheld device ? and when i hit the page it says something about INTEL??? please advise

The Sprint WiFi tether does not work with 4G (clear). You'll need to use WiFi tether or the others. Wi-Fi tether works great and it's free. Check the boxes that say MSS clamping and routing fix (something like that).

Internet Sharing Wifi Data?

Is it possible to use ICS with wifi connection instead of cellular connection? Would be useful for a makeshift wireless adapter if your regular NIC or wireless NIC fails.
It seems that even if I have a wifi connection already going and then I launch ICS and connect, it still tries to dial out and use the cellular connection. You would think if it can share cellular data it could share wifi data just as easily but maybe im missing something.
Back in the early days of WiFi internet sharing the private interface was changed to WiFi with a manual registry edit. It might be possible to change the public interface to USB instead of defaulting too the cellular radio. It would probably take a fair amount of troubleshooting, but I'd think it would be possible. I think the entries were at HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing. Might be a starting point...
Search for WMWifiRouter
WiFiRouter
WiFiRouter works by making your ppc into a virtual access point. Then you can share the internet through it.
Last time I looked however, the author had withdrawn the program from circulation at version 0.91. There must be some problems with it because the author indicated that he would release a new version once he ironed out some bugs. If it is not back in distribution yet, you might be still able to find it on a torrent site. If not, PM me and I will send you the cab. Some of the cab collections at ppcgeeks ftp have it inside too. One good collection to check is Alex's.
I have used it and it works.

wmwifirouter is not what he's looking for. That is still using your phones internet. He wants to see how he could use the phone as a Network card, using the wifi connection, as oppossed to the sprintpcs connection.
I too would be very interested in this happening, if anyone knows of a way please tell.
ok, but why ??
Why would you actually want to do this anyway ??? I will look into it but it makes no sense when a USB WiFi dongle is $30 or so and does not run your phone down to use it, why would you want to use your phone as a very expensive USB WiFi card ??? Maybe I am missing some golden benefit ????
I dont get it either, but he did say in an emergency if your wifi went out.
Thank you for the responses.
Yes, it would be useful if your wireless nic went out (or regular nic for that matter) just to have something to use for the moment. Or maybe you brought your computer to a friends house and hes out of ports or you dont want to run 50ft cable to his kitchen table
But the titan has wireless, it has internet sharing, why doesnt the wireless show up in the list of available networks? I'm not saying its an all important feature but it would be yet another cool thing your phone could do.
i looking to use my mogul as a wifi access point (sharing Spint Vision thru wifi)
i tryed the procedure to mod the registry to enable it but i cant get it to work.
anyone know the exact procedure for the mogul
btw i also checked out WMWifiRouter...looks like it's no longer free
I also wanna know
Look the idea is simple. So where is the phone ICS telling it to use the celluar line and not allowing the option of the wifi?
Pls any one contact me. Its a cool feature for a phone

I bought software called Walking Hotspot, which essentially turns my Mogul/Titan into something like a Mifi, sharing my cellular data with my laptop. Otherwise known as tethering.
I only use it for emergencies because I am not sure if Sprint can tell that I am tethering. I believe if Sprint detects unauthorized tethering they will charge 4 cents per kilobyte of data .. which is very harsh!

What's the trick to tethering?

I am wondering what the magic trick is to tethering?? I have tried literally every wireless/wired tether app out there and nothing is consistent. To get it to connect to my desktop wirelessly, I have to enable it, then connect on my desktop, then disable it, disconnect on my desktop, then enable and connect again. This is every single time. Web pages load about the same as my ATT dsl, downloads are a LITTLE faster, and other third-party programs (Skype, Halo 2, etc.) magically stop for no reason at random times, all this while my phone is just sitting on my desk next to my desktop and I haven't touched a thing, not to mention I do frequent speed tests right after these programs quit and I am still getting 11mbps-16mbps down......WAYYYYY faster than my horrible ATT dsl, which tops out at about 5.10mbps down.
I really really really want to dump my DSL and just tether from my phone to save $20/mo, but this is incredibly frustrating......wondering what the magic trick is to get it to work more solidly?
BTW, my Thunderbolt is running LiquidSmooth AOSP 3.0 ROM and my desktop is a Dell XPS 8100, Intel i7 processor with 2.8Ghz and 8gb of RAM, if that helps.

I don't know why you are trying to "connect to my desktop wirelessly"... Does your desktop have a wireless network card ? If not, you have to use USB tethering to provide 'net access to the desktop from your phone's data connection.

Yup, brand new Asus Wireless-N USB Adapter.
I don't know about wireless, but I use wired tethering via PDAnet. its very stable and I don't have any problems with it except one. occassionally, after a few hours(or if I use 1GB+ of data), it will then get really slow. ill have to temporarily turn off the phone's radio & then back on and everything returns to normal.
I do however feel it is an issue with the Thunderbolt as I have done the same thing with a Bionic and the Bionic never has the issue.
I use Wifi Tether v3.1-beta6. All I had to do to get it to connect was go under settings and be sure routing fix is checked. Connects to my laptop instantly and I get full 4g speeds.

No "trick" needed. Pay Verizon for tethering, and use the app they provide. Works just fine, no hassles.

Totally uncalled for. Troll elsewhere Mike. According to Block C provisions Verizon is required to allow us unlimited LTE data AND access to all apps *Even ones that allow tethering* They're trying to dodge a bullet claiming "Network Management" as the reasoning behind data caps and tether blocking.
Now as per the OP- I use default USB tethering built into CM7 and have had decent connection speeds / pings on 3g and 4g and I can watch Netflix / play Rift / connect to Vent / whatever without random disconnects. I'd go ahead and assume your wifi card on the computer just isn't playing nice with the wifi tethering and try a USB option before ripping your hair out in frustration.

First, you're wrong. You've stated something as fact which has not been decided. If you believe your interpretaton of the Block C restrictions is correct, get the FCC to do something about it, or successfully sue Verizon. Until you do that, tethering without paying for the feature is a violation of the contract you agreed to when you signed up for service.
Also, the rules put in place say nothing about providing such service at no cost. Verizon does not prohibit tethering, they just charge you for it. They allow unlimited usage, they just charge for it. Where's the violation?
Now stop ripping off legitimate tethering users (by stealing bandwidth which should be available to them) and VZW. Your rationalization of theft simply shows that you are a reprobate.
So back on topic of the op, i had some issues with the 605.5 base roms, but not older 605.0 and 605.3 based. I checked for the tetherguard.apk and haven't see it in any of the roms i've been trying. If you're using a sense based and having issues, try an older base rom, worked for me.

What rom are you using and having success with? I'm currently on BAMF Forever 1.0.9 and at times its fine and other times my speed tests show 12-13mbps on my desktop I'm tethering too, yet many simple web pages won't load.
And what is Tetherguard?

under setup-method, i manually selected soft-ap. most phones need an access point-style connection, iphones and ipads can do ad-hoc but not any other phones, and my laptop had problems with ad-hoc on occasion.
* radios should be 0906 or newer. mine are super stable... both 3g, 4g and wifi!
* wifi tether 3.0 beta 6
* device-progile -> thunderbolt
* setup-method -> softap
check the following
* wifi driver reload
* mms clamping
* routing fix
then... UNCHECK disable wake lock
bam, should be good. also, delete the wireless network from your computer. network sharing -> wireless networks -> find and remove. then reconnect, should be good to goooo

Hotspot problems - Cannot use hotspot from laptp

I have full 3G signal on my Samsung Galaxy S2, and I can easily use the browser on the phone to browse, as well as I am connected to Skype.
However the hotspot I am creating does not work for my laptop.
- My computer is connecting and gets an ip
- The android phone is still working
- I can create Open network or WPA2 PSK, yet none do any difference
- Even if I receive an ip address on the laptop, it still wont let me browse. It wont even let me browse on ip's, so its not even a DNS error.
I am out of options at the moment and I cant figure out what to do from here. I cant seem to find any solution anywhere, so XDA is my best hope.
And I even tested this from 2 different computers. One running Win XP another Win 7. None of them were able to connect (past) the hotspot.

There's some weird behavior on the native hotspot function. Are you using WPA2 encryption? Does it work with no encryption? (this is typical)
I read somewhere if you are using WPA2 encryption, and use an 8 digit password (must be digits - no letters, and has to be 8 long, exactly), then it will work.
did it ever work before? Is it possible that your carrier blocks tethering? Does usb tethering work?
It did not work with: no encryption either
However I will try now to see if it will work with WPA2 and 8 digits only.
Do you know of any app that allows me to fine tune the hotspot settings on the phone? I want to select more options than the two it gives me at the moment.
EDIT: Haha this is so insanely stupid. I am talking to Orange UK at the moment and apparently they have BLOCKED tethering!!! I am already paying for a 500MB package on my subscription but this does not include tethering. I have to pay another 4£ for 500MB which will be specifically for tethering. WTF! They are selling the same product twice????
EDIT 2: They are telling me that this is an Android block installed by Orange. Question is how I can get around this and use my existing 500MB. Does anyone know how this can be solved?

Wi-Fi Hotspot Solution for Noobs (Connectify+SeventhGate)

Trying to make my notebook a wifi hotspot for my Evo 3D but taking down by the unfriendly Connectify.
It just kept obataining IP address and sometimes it got connected but couldn't open any page due to network error.
I'm just a noob and don't wanna dealing with something advanced like wpa_suppliment blah blah blah. Till then, I found SeventhGate after googling hard.
The steps are so easy like abc. Yeah, that's noob's way. Here are the steps:
1. Install Connectify on your notebook.
2. Activate your notebook network connection (LAN, dial-up modem, etc.) and its wifi.
3. Run Connectify, fill out "Hotspot Name" and "Password" and also choose "Internet" connection mode.
4. Click "Start Hotspot" on Connectify and then just stop it.
5. Download SeventhGate at http://seventhgate.codeplex.com/releases/view/81960 and install it.
6. Run SeventhGate, choose the active "Network Connections" (or one of them if you have more than 1 internet connection) which you want to share via wifi
7. Fill out "Network Name", "Password" (min. 8 characters), and "Clients limit"
8. Click "Start"
9. Activate your Evo 3D wifi, connect to the "Network Name" you've made before and enter the password
10.Happy browsing! with your droid and notebook at once with only one internet connection!
Note:
- If you ask me why I don't uninstall Connectify?
+ Because sometimes SeventhGate can't recognize any active network connection eventhough you've already activated it.
When this occurs, close SeventhGate, run Connectify, "Start Hotspot", after that stop it.
Re-run SeventhGate and the active network connections are available again on the menu.
I don't know why, at least it works.

So, this thread is about setting up a wifi hotspot on a notebook so you can connect your phone to it? But, cool solution non the less, I guess.

I had problems connecting with "open" network type in connectify. I use the secure "WPA-P2SK" to share using connectify and it works fine om my PC at least.
And there is "Intel My WiFi technology" which works too provided you have a supported hardware.
in that case..you can mhotspot dude..it is PORTABLE

Re-run SeventhGate and the active network connections are available again on the menu.
I don't know why, at least it works.

I am able to connect my Android device with the Hotspot created by following your instructions. But I am still unable to browse on the device (using custom ROM SGS3).
Any help is appreciated.

[Q] misbehaved epic 4g, banned for mismatched ip

I'm a new member here, although I've spent weeks browsing for a remedy. My phone is my primary (only) internet access. Samsung Epic 4g, sphD700 2.3.6GINGERBREAD FC09 With root access via clockworkmod 5.0.2.7. Stock (fc09deoBML) ROM.
My trouble is, I don't have internet service other than the tethered hotspot via 4g mobile broadband. There are wifi networks nearby, all locked or out of range. Close enough for system apps the scan wifi at will in the middle of browsing. That causes 4g (wiMAX?) To disconnect, then my ip changes and i get banned from the servers that i use. Is there an app to block wifi and ping 4g to keep it from idling? A script to change timeout, or even disable it? I've got wifi buddy now, that says scans are disabled, but they're not. I bought ROM toolbox today, but it doesn't work properly on my phone with cwm recovery that I've got. I have android sdk tools on my pc, and odin3, but don't really have a clue...it seems like I'm the only one to ever make this complaint too.
Hopefully I'm wrong and someone has been over this and can shed some light!
Thanks for reading.
