[STOCK][ODIN][GB][Bell] To revert back to stock for OTA ICS in May (hopefully...) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Good morning!
These are Odin-flashable .tars of the stock Bell system, boot, recovery, and radios and can be used to revert to stock for he upcoming OTA update of Ice Cream Sandwich. I've been using DAGr8's ICS alpha 2 for a while now and have found that some Canadian-specific apps will not install, and although his ROM is excellent, I'd like to try the stock Bell ICS when it comes out.
Files Available
NB: All files are zipped to save space. Please extract the .tar before flashing via Odin.
pda-odin-bell-stock.zip - This .tar contains stock system.img.ext4, stock recovery.img, and stock boot.img and can be used to mostly restore your Note to stock by flashing it via Odin's pda option. However, flashing this .tar via Odin will increase your flash counter so if you're interested in resetting the counter, check out the next file.
pda-odin-bell-stock-system-boot.zip - This .tar contains the stock system.img.ext4 and stock boot.img and can be used to assist in resetting your flash counter using braway's method. Flash it via Odin's pda option. The recovery.img has been removed to preserve CWM if you've already flashed it to your phone. Once your flash counter has been reset, you can then return recovery to stock via this method using just the recovery.img file in the archive here.
phone-odin-bell-stock-radio.zip - This .tar contains the stock Bell modem/radio and is flashed via Odin's phone option. Not working correctly. Working on fix. My apologies.
Bell-Modem-CWM.zip - This .zip is made by pterry30 from the modem/radio files in my .tar and works perfectly. Just flash via Clockworkmod recovery. I'll keep working on a way to get the Odin .tar to work though.
SkyDrive Folder containing all Bell Files - All above Bell files can now be found in this SkyDrive folder. Provider changed since my public DropBox links keep being suspended to due to excessive bandwidth traffic.
The stock Bell kernel can be obtained from this thread thanks to Da_G. Flash via Odin's pda option.
Disclaimer
I am in no way responsible for any damages caused to your Note by anything you flashed. These files are provided as is to help Bell Note owners return to stock after whatever they've done to their phones.
History
These stock files were pulled from two different Bell Notes so we could get everything we were looking for unmodified. marshals pulled the system.img.ext4, boot.img, and radio files from his Note after replacing recovery with CWM. I pulled the recovery.img and flash counter data from my Note after flashing a rooted AT&T kernel. The files were then prepared in an Ubuntu Virualbox into .tar, then checked in Odin for errors by loading them into the program. No errors were reported. These files have not yet been flashed to a Note as I'm still playing with DAGr8's ICS alpha 2 and only have the one device.
Special Thanks
marshals for pulling the system.img.ext4, boot.img, and radios from his Note.
braway for taking my constant questions and providing much needed guidance in my first developer-ish project as well as for the flash counter reset.
Da_G for the stock Bell kernel, instructions on using Odin, and indirectly showing me how to use the Linux terminal.
pterry30 for packaging the stock modem/radio files into a CWM-flashable .zip.
Please post your experiences with these stock Bell files below and if you have any questions, I'll do my best to help. Enjoy!!

The easiest way to do it for me on att note was to just flash the bootloader and flash a GB ROM in ClockWork Recovery

Sounds easy enough, but would that allow us Bell Note owners to get OTA updates from Bell?

Great thread!......Would like to see a thread like this for our Telus i717D Note's !

If you know at least one person with an unmodified Telus Note, I would be more than happy to do the same for you. Two people would be better, but we can get most from one.

I can provide the telus stock recovery, stock modem and stock kernel, all cwm zips

I have a stock rom that is rooted, I am working on removing the root to make a totally stock odin flash, Braway is helping me out with that.

Just PM me a link to these files and I'll see what I can do about making them Odin-flashable. Would love to be able to make it easier for people to revert back to stock if they want. Also, if you need any help with the stock system.img, don't hesitate to ask.

This helps a lot thanks!

I do not know how more people have not said thanks to this!! This is amazing, thank you so much for your contributions. God bless.

Just wondering if the stock Bell radios above are the same ones as in your original thread? I carrier unlocked my phone after I rooted it. Don't know if that might have had any bearing on why I couldn't get the radios to flash with Odin. Everything else flashed back to stock and has been working fine - great work as I said before! And for all I know, I may still have the stock radios already on my Note. I can't say whether anything that I may have flashed in rooting/unrooting it would have replaced them and I'm not sure how to check. Anyone know?
Looking forward to OTA ICS soon, thanks again!

Will we need a 0 flash count, and stock recovery for the OTA update?

Its shocking that the stock image of the Telus Galaxy Note isn't anywhere on this site. Kinda has me worried ... Where are all the Canadian developers?

I understand that a thread like this just needs to be done, but I'm having trouble understanding why people would do this?
I mean, if you're switching back then you're obviously rooted and you probably like to use custom roms, why not wait till someone comes out with a solid, stable, better custom version of ics based on the official release?
Unless you're trying to resell or don't trust the rom's security integrity, why not wait?

I did it as a safety net for myself in case I messed something up. Additionally, the ROMs available currently are all based off AT&T software, and I wanted the option to return to Bell stock to get ICS OTA when it is released. I've been using DAGr8's ICS alpha II on my Note for a while now, but today I returned to stock because I was having too many FC's, too much lag, and problems downloading some Canadian specific apps. His ROM was excellent, but based off leaked AT&T code.
I guess I did this for my own benefit and for those who wish to return to stock at any given time. If you don't want or need it, you don't have to use it, but some people are very appreciative to have these files and I am happy to have helped them.

Damn, I just bought my TELUS Note a couple of days ago. First thing I did was root it and restore most of my apps from my Desire Z Titanium backup. I do have a CWM backup right after I rooted it, though. Would that help?

I've made the stock firmware for Bell that was originally on here (search). From my experience making that and the subsequently making Telus and Rogers stock firmware with files from other people, I know that if you flash one of the big three's firmware on a Bell Note, the model reported by the software is that of the owners firmware. Can confirm it as when I flashed the Telus firmware on my Bell Note, it reported it as an i717D (Telus' variant). I assume it will be the same in your case.

Rooting GS3 UK T-Mobile...

Hi All,
Please forgive me, I had an iPhone for the last 5 years and it was jailbroken each firmware update.
I just made the android jump (love it!) and i've come to root... and i'm stumped!
I got Odin... But then knowing which firmware/kernal/thingy to use is confusing me badly.
I'm GS3 GT-I93000, T-Mobile in the UK...
Can anyone just point me in the right direction? I just want to be able to enable to added features of things such as Avast Anti-Theft (GPS auto on) which require rooting!
Thanks!

The T-Mobile, UK Version has looked bootloader from what I have been told.
there are plenty of rooting video guides in the general section (to many to link just search) . Or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 is probably the easiest way to root with the best guide.
If you are still stuck after looking through those just message back here and I will try to help the best I can.

Heard a few of my friends complaining that it did, but then again they probably where doing it wrong and had a USB connected or the phone turned on or something lol.
In the end I rooted it using the first method replied in this post, worked like a charm. Doesn't seem to have any kind of branded or locked bootloader from what I can tell, and root apps are working as they should.
A further question.. on my old iPhone, if I jailbroke it and update the firmware, it reversed the jailbreak.
I want to update the firmware on my GS3 to the latest, will it undo the root? Will I have to re-install root apps etc?
Or will the device stay rooted once i've upgrade?
Many thanks for your help, you guys/gals are a friendly bunch of clever-cloggs.
Here is a link to cwm flashable stock Roms, lg8 is what you want, you can flash these in recovery. I advise after flashing that you upgrade your modem to lh1 which is latest for uk and fixed some issues. Link also supplied

All matters regarding root etc, how to reset flash counter and return to stock for warranty can be found in i9300/General/stickies
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but whats the significance of this ROM?
Here's my device so far...
Stock ROM (never flashed anything custom) which I rooted using the above method.
I want to update to the latest firmware for the i9300, still stock though as I haven't found a feature in a custom ROM worth messing with it for me.
Then I was just going to re-root (if I needed to).
Does the ROM you posted mean that I won't have to re-root? And it will stay rooted?
And the modem thing... I don't understand.
I'm sorry to be a pain!
Thank you for your help,
the Rom listed are flashable through recovery, and there are a choice of odexed and deodexed stock Roms. Odex is the standard Rom, and Odex basically helps load apps a bit quicker, but has some drawbacks also. I could spend hours trying to fill you in but reading all the links and information I have supplied you with is the easier option
Unless you want to return the favor and spend the next few days explaining the mysteries of Windows to me, then I may consider some mutual spoon feeding
So.. to answer my question, does flashing through recov mean you do not have to re-root the device?
I wonder why the modem update is seperate? You would think they would include such things in the firmware update.
I'm a wizz on windows - fire away! haha.
I do genuinely appreciate your advice and help.
So.. to answer my question, does flashing through recov mean you do not have to re-root the device?
Yes if its not rooted .
Modems are part of firmware but can also be flashed as a separate item .
jje
JJE - My device is rooted though, which I explained
Also, the recov flashable firmware posted above lists this..
"Firmware info:
•Base Firmware: I9300XXBLG9 (4.0.4)
•Region Asia
•Country: Singapore
•Carrier: Unbranded
•Build Date: 30 July 2012
•Modem: DXLG2
•CSC: OLBBLG2
•Change List: 928452"
BLG8 has a version for Europe/UK.. but not BLG9...
Will I have to install the older one?
flash lg8 as I said, ...... lg9 is the Asian version. The modem was a separate ota update to remedy some problems.
I'm on uk Orange/t mobile so all is good
At op to your original Q... all you have to do is stay on your firmware unless you cant wait for the update to be released in the uk, then you can download the latest firmware either from xda or sammobile.com and flash with odin. Now if you stay on your firmware sometimes it will not update properly through kies because of root. In that case go on sammobile and download the firmware for your phone and flash with odin. You will lose root but you already have cf root on your computer so just root again.

I have no idea where to start

So my note is originally Bell, unlocked and using it on Telus. It's rooted and running a custom rom.
When I first rooted my Bell note, I flashed a wrong think and my phone became AT&T.
So now I want to go back to stock so I can receive the ICS update but I have no idea witch recovery and image to flash.
Do I restore to Bell (the original rom), Telus (my carrier) or AT&T(the wrong flash)?
Will the Kies method restore my Note to stock ICS since it got released today for all Canadian carriers?
I'm so confused.
Thanks.

[Q] About Battery Life, Rooting and OTA, And Kies Updates.

Hello All,
I do not post on XDA (Silent reader haha) This would be my first thread.
Anyways, I have a couple of questions that I could not seem to find solid answers to.
I'm on Stock Jellybean I9300XXDLIH. I plan on rooting using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root (the one that keeps stock recovery)
Q1.) If I root using that, then later if I want to restore my phone to TOTAL stock to keep warranty, will I be safe by using TriangleAway and then flashing Stock firmware (Of the same region) using Odin? Are these 2 steps enough? Some people have got that tiny red exclamation mark, something about a new bootloader.. has that issue been resolved?
Q2.) I have heard that OTA updates are not a good idea after rooting. However I want to use Kies to update my firmware, after rooting and using TriangleAway. Is this a problem?
Q3.) I think we are getting a 4.1.2 update soon with premium suite .. around this month. Is it better to wait for that update before I root?
Q4.) If it is wise to root now, can somebody please link me to a guide that tells me what it is safe to remove from stock rom? I have downloaded a debloat tool from a guide, but I opened the .BAT file with a text editor, read the commands and saw that it removed too many things for my liking, some of them I would want to keep..
Q5.) Does the Stock Kernel support overclocking/Underclocking/Undervolting? (I am guessing not, being hopeful Interested in underclocking and undervolting.) Are there any drawbacks to using a Kernel like Siyah's in terms of battery life and stability? Does the Stock rom at least support underclocking by itself? On my Old galaxy mini it did..
Thank you, sorry for the long post or if the questions seem repeated (Spent loads of time searching!)
Anyone?

Q1.) If I root using that, then later if I want to restore my phone to TOTAL stock to keep warranty, will I be safe by using TriangleAway and then flashing Stock firmware (Of the same region) using Odin? Are these 2 steps enough? Some people have got that tiny red exclamation mark, something about a new bootloader.. has that issue been resolved?

Yes you can do that. You can find many guides here. Some members have made video tutorials Gore's third too.
I never had any issue with triangle away.
Q2.) I have heard that OTA updates are not a good idea after rooting. However I want to use Kies to update my firmware, after rooting and using TriangleAway. Is this a problem?

If you root then your phones binary counter will increase and phone will show in modified state. You will not be able to use ota upgrades. But I don't miss kies a bit because I got so much more with little secrifise. Also there are better options for backing up your phone then kies.

If that's what you want. But there are many custom roms already have 4.1.2 and they are much better then stock rom for battery, speed and smoothness. I could never convince myself go back to stock rom after trying some of custom rooms with lots of additional features.

You might want to search forum or YouTube for video tutorials. I learn that way.

Stock kernel do not support these. I use siyah and it's best in my opinion and experience.

I am not sure about this issue because I never faced this one. I purchased S3 last month and Isince then I have been flashing custom roms. I already tried 15-20 roms. Never had any issue.
All you had to do is completely follow instructions and make sure rom/mod/app is compatible with your phone model
Why do you want to update via Kies? I think Kies will only work if you keep your device pure. Also, you can update/flash official firmware with Odin/Mobile odin. That's what I do. Most of the people here do not use kies for upgrading firmware but they download stock samsung firmware from http://www.sammobile.com and flash it with Odin. It take 30 secs, as simple as that.
Thank you for your time.
I already know about Odin and Samfirmware, it's just that this is an expensive phone and don't want to use any unofficial software apart from Root.. for now.
There is no way to know unless you try it yourself. Nobody here can assure you that some process or rom or mod will definitely work on your phone.
This is kind of you-are-responsible-for-your-act forum.

[Q] N3bula

I hope i am posting this in the correct location. I finally rooted my Verizon Samsung note 2. I am on 4.1.2 rooted with "casual". I have root access with super user and twrp installed. I am dying to use the new N3bula with note 3 functions. In the directions it says before flashing this r.o.m. you must use Mj9 official from (beantown) using odin, then flash the N3bula using twrp. Im confused on exactly the steps for this? specifically because i thought there was a post or 2 that says not to use odin once your rooted? Please someone help me , im drowning in newbness. Thanks so much. IF possible can you send me to the correct how to achieve my goal? or a quick how to. Thanks so much.
from beanstown
Hey, I believe this post should've been posted in the N3bula section because it's directly related to that ROM. I do know what you're asking about though because i've been waiting for this ROM for forever! Try downloading this from beanstown (it should be the third link in his post mentioning something about firmwares) and flashing it via ODIN. Be very careful with odin though, it does change some very important things internally on your phone.

'no need to use Odin once rooted' means not use Odin to flash roms. (there's always and exception to something and not flashing roms through odin was to protect people from causing major problems) there is a file to be flashed in odin in beans thread on the 4.3 update, i believe third link. ill post a link soon as possible. until then look at adams thread about dont flash with odin, or something like that. busy flashing stuffs
