Upgrade to Maxx now or wait for Fighter? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey all,
My contract is currently up and am having a tough time. I thought I was dead set on the Maxx, but now I'm reading those leaked reports about the Fighter which may be on the way. I'm now deciding if I want to wait it out or go about and get the Maxx.
The only difference it seems is the HD screen. Is it really that big of a difference? Will I be able to notice a whole lot of difference in the screen?
Also, If I upgrade now (Verizon) and the Fighter is released in 30 days, is there anything I can do to swap phones? I thought they had some sort of return policy but not quite sure how long it extends. I'd hate to commit then something newer comes out.
It reminds me of the time I bought my Macbook. Literally 5 days later they released an updated model with better hardware and OS...

Up to you in the end!
I'm a newbie to the RAZR got my MAXX about 3 weeks ago after my LG Revolution sucked balls hard and started rebooting constantly ( great phone and devs just no ram ). I have another upgrade available in Oct. and plan to get what ever is out and Hot then the RAZR is a nice phone but lack of development is well kinda disappointing! There are all these great devs out there but not everyone can work on all the phones at the same time so it's a crap shoot on what comes for these phones! If you get one of the RAZR's root it and be happy dissabling bloat. As for the Droid Fighter looks like another RAZR probably going to have the same locked bootloader so ultimately its up to you but if you only have one upgrade and plan on waiting 2 years till the next hold off as long as you can there will be better phones before long!

As a side note, through Verizon Corporate, the return policy is 14 days. Some authorized retailers have their own return/exchange policies though.
Oh, and even though i LOVE my MAXX, i would wait too. Even though it's all rumors right now, it sounds like pretty amazing phones are on their way.

As is the same answer each time this question is asked about any phone that is more than a day old versus something coming out in the undeterminable future, if you are worried about what will come out tomorrow you will never upgrade.
If you wait till the Fighter comes out, you will kick yourself for not waiting another 45 days for the (insert latest and greatest phone of the week) to come out. If the MAXX meets your current needs, then buy it.

Had the same thought last week, but I bit the bullet and got the MAXX last Friday. I don't regret it at all. The MAXX is an amazing phone.

Farewell :(

I just went out and got the Bionic today, but more importantly I just wanted to thank all of the wonderful and dedicated Eris devs out there. YOU are the reason my eris has lasted this long. I really appreciate everything you have all done, and as soon as I get some money back in my checking since the bionic costs a bit i will send some your way. Thank you everyone, xda has the best community
well that was short lived... i cant stand the bionic and im returning it tomorrow lol. Ill enjoy the eris for another month until the vigor comes out!

what happened??? i've had my bionic for 2 days now and am loving it. i was also loving it that the sales rep actually felt bad for me for having an eris for 2 years, and was floored when i told him that thanks to the devs here, it ran gingerbread very well.
anyway, yes, thanks to the devs and for making the eris a wonderful first android experience!
I just received my Incredible 2 today and I absolutely love it.
Dont say goodbye yet.. Ive had my Incredible 2 for a few monthes now and I still come here, because I still have been flashing new ROMs on my old eris.. been looking for one that runs the best for a phone with no service.

^^this is very usefull now^^
I love my incredible 2, but I just cant stay away from this eris either.. I think Im hooked..

What were your issues with the bionic? Just curious as it had been a possible option for me.
Later Eris
I had fun with the Eris but I am moving to the Incredible 2. Thank you to everybody and good luck if you still have an Eris.
Sorry for the delay guys, the biggest issue I had with the bionic was the headphone jack issue. For anyone who hasn't heard of this, its that the headphone jack caused a squealing noise whenever it was powered on. Ill see if I can find the thread on the Motorola support board in a bit. Since I use my phone for primarily music either local or spotify, this noise issue was a huge deal. I took it back to the store and they gave me a new one. Turns out that one and the display models all made the sounds. So I just returned the device altogether. for everyone else that its working for, I'm glad you're enjoying it. And to all the devs here thank you so much for keeping my Eris running with the best of them

Oh, yeah. I have heard of that issue now that I think about it. That would definitely bug the heck out of me as well. Haha not patient enough to wait for a fix?
Normally I would wait for the fix, but I was too pissed off having just spent 300$ on a new phone that didn't work up to my standards (which aren't too high given I'm still using the eris ) since I have at least a half hour commute if not longer and I usually fill that gap with music, that particular issue was a huge deal for me. So here I am awaiting the vigor or the prime. I'm a fan of HTC tho so it'll probably be the former
Sent from my ERIS-ADR6200 using XDA App
That's quite understandable. I actually would probably do the same thing. That's why I still haven't upgraded and I've been sitting on an upgrade since the beginning of June (Man, it has been a tough 4 months). If I'm going to drop that much on a phone, I want to absolutely love it. Another reason is because I have not had good luck with getting new phones in the past.
Story time: Started out with the chocolate v2 and then the enV touch on my first upgrade and dreaded them both. Even used old phones from friends in between such as the V, enV, and some motorola flip phone. Never getting a dumbphone again. Ever. Finally bought the Eris off someone on craigslist like a year ago and I had never been happier with a phone (even more so once I rooted it ). Even though the Eris isn't the quickest and most glamorous phone out there, it beats all my past ones by a landslide.
I'm also waiting on the vigor and prime to come out, but for me it will probably be the latter
If the vigor comes out on the 20th (or the 13th perhaps?) I dont know how long ill be able to restrain myself from waiting for the prime. I know I only had the bionic for 2 days, but just those 2 days of 4g made me really antsy (4g coverage here is phenomenal). Im hoping we can get a more definitive prediction on the prime before the vigor is released tho.
PS: Ive had an upgrade since March. I know your pain
I'm in the same boat - upgrade available since August, waiting and seeing. I'm going to see what the big, bad Apple is offering starting Tuesday - if they fix their terrible Gmail support, I may go that way. I definitely will not go Prime if it's true that it has a 4.5" display. 4.3" is bad enough - I want something that fits in my pocket.
I may go Bionic - I really want a phone that has a good radio, since I live in a spot with bad coverage, and HTC doesn't seem to make phones with good radios. I think I can live with a mediocre display - I've had the Eris for 21 months, after all.

I also worry about the size of my next phone. One thing to keep in mind is that for ICS, the screen can take up more of the phone's face since the softkey buttons aren't needed. Since I've also had an upgrade for a long time now, I will definitely be getting either the vigor, prime, or droid hd/razr.

I used to worry about that, but it seems like the standard for any high end phone has become at least a 4in screen. I guess I've just accepted it lol

Hmmm, in the same boat - eligible for upgrade again, finally - LOL. Seriously debating to - by locking into another 24 months extension, again - get the "free" INC.2 online via CircuitCity/TigerDirect/CompUSA instead of dealing with Big Red directly as their best direct price is $119 (suppose to be using my last NE2 discount - regular new 2 year price is $149 today ....) and no activation fees - and keep unlimited email & web for smartphone bundle.
If I go with any 4G devices, I will lose UNL data & be capped at 2GB at $30/mo - whereas I get a generous 22% corp. discount for primary FS line & data, so I'm saving quite a bit each month, - DW is on a feature phone (Env3) exempt from data.
Inc.2's bigger 4" screen is just about right and will fit into my pockets, etc. without being bulky - if I go this route although I will miss not having the Eris, getting it rooted & flashing Roms have unleashed its full potential - had people looking over & wondering what I got under "its" skin, etc.
What I've read & understood so far, there're very few returns on the Inc.2 - and virtually no FRU's from Big Red - it's a very good sign so far, 6 months after its launch, so I'm going to chew on it for a while longer during the trip. I just couldn't imagine taking a brand new unrooted, stock smartphone with bloatware on a 10 day trip next week, so I got reasons to hold on to the Eris for a while longer.
Sorry maybe I misunderstood, but why would you have to extend your contract and lose unlimited data?

If I renew/extend with 3G devices like the Incredible 2, yes, I get to keep unlimited email & email for smartphone, grandfathered @ $29.99 /mo. plus 22% corporate discount, which is very nice (or stay with the Eris, etc.)
However, I will lose it if I opt for any 4G LTE devices like the T.bolt as I will need to switch to the 2GB+ data bundle & email plan @ $30 /mo. without corporate discount - including the iPhones.
We got solid 4+ bars 3G GSM coverage at the house (from big "A" & T-Mo) and 2G/borderline 3G from big Red, so ....
Oh that's odd. Is it because of the corporate discount? I kept unlimited data when I used my upgrade to get a bionic. (I've obviously since returned it, but was explicitly told I would keep my unlimited)

[Q] Hot!!!

Hi everyone,
I was the very first at the Verizon store to pick up this bad boy!! I'm concerned though and actually thinking of returning it and waiting on the G-Nex but I love it!! Oh my problem is it gets hot I mean glass and the back are actually hot after a bit of continual use and I'm no gamer or have not watched or download anything to caused such a reaction: 0(
Also the bottom buttons lose light as it is actually gone out as I type. Not minding that much bcuz it actually looks sweet just black but I'm concerned I may have a bad seed. My question would be is the heat something to expect due to the thinnest or should I just swap it out as defective?
Thanks!
Was it plugged it? Every phone I have had gets hot when it stays plugged in.
But really I have yet to have mine get hot. Thunderbolt got warmer even. Also mine is in the defender case so if it gets hot it will get really hot...

I was at a football game yesterday and it got a little toasty there, but every phone I've ever had does it in highly populated areas.
I exchanged it...
Called Verizon and they said to bring it back for a new one. She was so cute, she messed up and said let me swap out the battery then she said oops none to swap out. They still aren't use to that phone.
No it wasn't on the charge plus battery was like gone by the time I left house and entered the store so it was just plain bad. If the heat is a problem with these phone I will diff trade it in for G-Nex if not I have found my new phone )
Thanks for the help!

Yes you have 14 days, and if the Gnex is in stores on the 21st, you can exchange it -$35 restocking fee of course. If it's not in stores you can return it and they probably can direct fulfill it for you. If its web orders only then I'd suggest returning it a few days ahead of time, then your upgrade date will be reset in time.
Edit: You haven't swapped out another device for the RAZR correct? Cause you're only allowed one swap to a different model (ie say bionic to razr, bionic to rezound etc).

No problem man. The RAZR will get ICS as well next year I believe. I can understand wanting it out of the box for sure! Benches are pretty similar from what I've seen so far, and I'm pretty sure every day usage is pretty similar. I just enjoy the physical build of this phone so much that I don't mind waiting for a software update. With 2nd init we should have some have some AOSP loving hopefully! But again even on stock, this phone delivers an enjoyable experience.
The buttons light up ehen it is dark. There is a light sensor at the top left. Cover it and you'll see the buttons light up.

Cool as a cucumber now!!
Just wanted to report received new phone and its cool as cool can be...no heat now at all. So the phone is thin and can handle itself just fine!!
VERY HAPPPPY!!
Well it continues (
Tomorrow I will take back my Razr because it is simple HOT!!! 3g cool, 4g wicked hot, my 2 finger tips still hurt!!! I'm very mad just the thought of them knowingly selling this phone with this defect!! I'm also mad because I actually fell for this phone, I fell hard but now I'll go back to my Fascinate and wait :O(
Too bad because its a smooth fast lil phone the problem seems to be its thinness.
I'm sad!

Rezound .... best decision I have made

When i first got this phone ( right after i found out that htc unlocked boot loader ), I was really upset how developers were turned off from the community. I always thought that any phone's worth is evaluated via developer's support.
Now there are more developers buying this awesome phone every day, making it the ultimate beast that it should have been all along.
I really hope this community continue to appeal the developers. Every day I wake up, I fall more in love with my butter smooth phone with its phenomenal battery life, sound and reception.
In summary, thank you to all the developers that bought our phone and truly unlocking its potential. AND thank you for the maturity of the community to make it more appealing to the developers.
Yeah there is really not a single piece of info that is useful in this post, just wanted to share my happiness.
+1. I like bragging bout the devs n my phone too lol
Yeah, I keep watching the boards and Twitter like a fiend for any updates or scoops about developers and the different projects going on for the Rezound. Pretty excited to see Koush bought a Rezound just recently!
Does anyone have a good list of developers to follow on Twitter that are currently working on the Rezound?

In addition to that -> This phone works on both CDMA and GSM network ---> Best stuff I've ever own
Yup! Better choice than the Galnax for sure! After seeing that sprints version of the galnax is going to have the omap 4470 and power 544 that's like a big FU to the current galnax owners. Also google is offering limited support/stopped support to the cdma galnax. So much for the "Nexus" name now trololl.
The two biggest things I like about this phone compared to the galaxy nexus is the physical buttons and sdcard slot. I can't figure out why people would want to buy a phone now a days without an sdcard slot.
What I currently hate about this phone is the lack of S-OFF ATM my TB has has it. Correct me if I'm wrong I think it took about 5 months for the TB to get that though.
Man I agree 100%.
I was on a waiting list for like 6 months for a galaxy nexus, and when it finally came out I was shocked was a complete piece of crap it was\is.
I hadn't even considered the Rezound until that point, but we have a couple nexus phones on our corporate VZ account and after messing with them I wouldn't own one for anything.
I absolutely love the Rezound and think it's hands down the best phone I have used to date.
I never even looked at the new Nexus, so I didn't look at the specs for it, but the fact that it doesn't have a SD card would have definitely lead me in a way different direct than a Nexus. That is just ridiculous. That and the fact that Samsung phones feel like toys.
Just got my rezound today and it is by far the best phone i have ever owned.
I really agree with all the posts on this thread. I love my Rezound as well. I was waiting for the Gnex, but was bummed when I learned it did not have an MicroSD slot. Then I went to Big Red and compared the Gnex and Rezound. I was really excited when I checked out the Rezound, and turned off with the Gnex because I felt its build quality was poor. I picked up the Rezound and I am completely happy with it. I too hope the developers go crazy supporting this phone, as I am unlocked and rooted.
I also got the Rezound. It's a good phone, and I haven't had any problems with it (besides pink lights). I still find myself pining for the Galaxy Nexus. I really wanted that phone to be the one, but I felt the Rezound was the safer choice. I'll probably get over it when I get some sweet CM9 on this bad girl.
i finally got mine today guys and have already been bragging on Facbook... now what to do with my old Dinc... hmm

I got the thunderbolt on release day, and I am pretty sure Jcase and crew had it S-Off within a month. I remember this because I went through 5 of them within my 30 day return period, and all 2-3 of the 5 were ones I had s-off'd. No way was it 5 months.

haha
There was an issue with the Thunderbolts back at release time...i am trying so hard to remember what it was, that made me replace them. Some were worse than others, but this was when froyo was out. Soon as we got GB they fixed the issue. I just cannot for the life of me remember what the issue was. One had a bad headset that didnt output sound, and my last one, which I still have, works fine except for the sensor to shut the screen off when I am on the phone. I would constantly hang up on people. I tried and tried but verizon would NOT budge on replacing the phone. I finally got pissed off and purchased the Bionic, and later sold that to get the rezound. Should have just gotten the rezound in the first place.
Rezound wise, I think the best buy store I work at just kept getting a bunch of the same bad batch, with messed up screens. The moment I went to another best buy store, I have the now working phone I still have 30+ days later, knock on wood.
One rezound died cause the Best Buy Mobile Rep put the sim card in backwards, and surprisingly the phone still worked, and then the phone stopped booting and kept giving me errors in recovery, and wouldn't RUU. Only thing I can think of was the sim being in backwards fried the MOBO. That was the most perfect rezound I had had. So sad that it died. Perfect screen, and perfectly super dark red capacitive buttons. Now I haz perfect screen and pink buttons haha.
I know people slam apple, only thing I can say tho, is having had 4 different iphones total, and my family having a couple, I never saw a single pixel problem, or had a single phone have any issues. Everyone in my family that has an android phone has had some issue or another. I generally never had any trouble with HTC though, but the thunderbolt was rushed so I wasn't surprised, and the Rezound was a first of it's kind display wise.
Tried out the verizon gnex and ended up returning that pos for this awesome rezound. Best decisiĆ³n I have made electronics wise! The gnex has some serious radio issues that need to be addressed. Couldn't get 4G at all at home and as soon as I activated my rezound..... Behold! 3 4G bars.. Couldn't be happier :-D

I waited a while to upgrade from the OG Droid. The Charge was available at my upgrade (my sister's negative experience ruled out the TB), but I hated the memory pool and there were rumors of the dual core Bionic! Then the Bionic came out to little fanfare and there were rumors of the Galaxy Nexus! I had absolutely decided on the GNex, but delay after delay, after delay... it was the 22nd of November when I said, "F-it" and when to the Verizon store. My wife had a problem with the original RAZR, so wasn't considering the new one, but I thought it would be awesome. I sent AM to play with the Rezound and I played with the Razr... for about a minute. As soon as I saw the Rezound screen, I immediately dropped the Razr from consideration.
I packed it all up on GNex launch day to return it. I spent 5 minutes with the Nexus and went back to work with my Rezound. The guy helping me said I wasn't the first to come in with a Rezound and not exchange it.
The best decision I ever made was returning the POS Nexus for the Rezound.
I love mine. I have another upgrade in march and was thinking about giving the Gnex a 14 day trial run but, I see no need to at this point. I'm just getting another Rezound so my wife can also have one.
Unless there is anything new a awesome out by March 27th but I don't see much talk about anything coming out soon.
With the unlocked bootloader this phone is already the best phone available. I am so happy that I picked it up for a penny during that black friday sale.

Maxx OR something else??

Ok, I have a buddy that works at Verizon and they have an offer to upgrade your phone to 4G even if you still have time on your old phone contract. I take it they're trying to get people to move up to 4G.
Whatever the case, my wife's Dinc2 bricked on her and needs a replacement, Should fork over the the 199 for a Maxx? She basically wants the battery time (don't we all?) Im not a fan of Motorola phones, but the Maxx does have the best battery life out there.
What do you guys think??
I have a moto atrix and looove it. Its been great to me.
But the reason. I would NEVER get a razor is because it has a built in battery. You cant pull it if something freezes or if you get a bootloop. Too scary for me.
I also work at a rogers store and we've seen about 7 or 8 of these come back with hairline cracks in the screen, from either a really small.fall, or literally NOTHING at all.
Personally I'd steer clear, and I'm a moto fan!!
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
Moto designed the phone knowing that it might freeze. Holding volume down and power resets it. You can swap the battery really easy. Not like on iPhone. I can admit that even though it has gorilla glass cracks can happen and often on this phone. But the razr maxx is one of the best Android phones out there. I would strongly suggest maxx.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA Premium App
I went from the Incredible 2 to a Maxx. I don't regret it Its super durable, battery is just amazing. In the unlikely event it freezes, holding the power and volume up (or down I can't remember) will restart it. It worked for me.
tl;dr : Get the Maxx you won't regret it
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
I love my maxx...I used to have the original Razr and probably would be using it still if I didn't get a chance to pick up this maxx for cheap. Battery life is top notch on it, especially if she doesn't use it much she will love it. By far this is the most stable android phone I've ever used. Haven't had a problem with slows downs or freeze ups and I'm still rolling the stock GB OS, once ICS comes out officially it will be even better.
I say go for it, my wife wasn't at all interested in the Razr til I got her one and now she loves it. Sound quality on it is great...
motorola voice quality on some of their models (the RAZR & Defy are two of them) blows everything else away. if you care about voice quality, RAZR is the one to get. Atrix and iPhone 4 are almost, but not quite as good for voice. LG makes one decent phone for voice but i can't remember the model no. right now. Samsung phones are HORRIBLE for voice, stay far away if you like to use phones as phones.
I left the gnex for the maxx, no regrets here. Great phone. ICS real soon. Don't worry about the non removable battery, its not an issue. Hard resets (simulated battery pull) can be done as stated above.
via Razr MAXX
Love my maxx. Don't fall for the hype of it not being good or just about the battery. Go to your local store and just play w one. I am running an ics leak on mine and if its any inclination of how official will be then the RAZR maxx w ics is going to be one of the top phones. Battery life is obviously the selling point...but there are so many more great points about this phone. I have never had a freeze or a restart on gbread on 2 different ics leaks.

Hmm, thats an interesting video but let me tell you something that if you drop your phone into the water, be it any phone, a normal person cannot do it in a techy way like shown in the video and i m sure your wife would not like it, taking apart the parts of any phone to avoid damage due to water. the changes of dropping the phone into the water are minimal unless we dont care. If you really want her to be happy with any phone in the market then it is only MAXX. I have been using razr and i m in love with it to the core. Its slick, very powerful, the best beautiful design phone in the market ever made after original razr and THE DEADLY BATTERY LIFE. That video is actually for those who wants to play with their phone. And with ICS on this, it would be icing the cake. She well love it, buy it. You will not regret it.

The points in this video are only relevant if you are a guy who takes your phone apart to repair. For 99% of smartphone users, the points made in this video are irrelevant. If you have an extended warrantee; phones are not repaired. They are replaced.

I had it get real hot and glitch up once when I was using google NAV screen on for over an hour, had to turn the screen off let it cool and then power cycle it, but then again that was 3 weeks after I got my phone and my phone hadn't been shut off since I got it, now I make it a rule to "power cycle" my phone every other charge and I haven't had a problem since.
At this point, I would wait. The next two months should see some interesting options.
Maxx is tops though for now, if can not. If waiting for the assumed Razr HD, that will probably be end of summer.

Well i am wondering if i should wait or go ahead and get this maxx? Hearing they are going to try to get us ones that are grandfathered in to the unlimited plans to get us out with the upgrade at discounted prices makes me want to go ahead now so i can get locked in. I just hate that their is not many dev support for the maxx due to the locked boot loader. I like the dev support for the Nexus but don't want to take the gamble with the reception issues and data loss issues.
Get the RAZR Maxx no question about it.
I think the dev support will get better once we get ICS officially and dig into bit and get somewhere

No, the points in this video are for anyone interested in build quality and design. This phone was DESIGNED to be unrepairable. It was meant to be tossed and replaced, yet its one of the most expensive phones going. And MOST people (or at least I thought) here on xda were interested in modifying their phones, whether its, rooting, custom firmware etc... and the guy in the video is an elite xda member who knows these phones inside and out, programming, hardware, tthe works. Plus I work at a rogers store, have only been there since January, and have had 7 of them come back with cracked screens. And we've probably only sold about 15. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUUUGE motor fan. But the lockind down of boot loaders, and phones like the razor, I'm slowly, and sadly, losing faith.

Razr Maxx is a fine device, if wanting to avoid soon paying full price to keep unlimited..... for now....

Get G2 now or wait for a newer phone?

What do you guys think? Should I get the G2 now or wait until a new phone comes out such as the S5? I know if I keep waiting newer and better devices will keep appearing, but I want to get the best of the best for a 2 year contract and don't want to be disappointed with a phone that has any big flaws.
As far as I know, the G2 has a few flaws I might be bothered with such as games not playing with good fps, the phone getting hot while playing games, video recording quality issues, lag issues in the web browser, and also unsure if LG will be supporting this phone with timely updates. All of these issues I've heard on this forum.

Well if the S5 is coming in Feb/March/Aprilish like people are saying, thats already 4-6 months into your contract, if it even really comes out. Maybe they will wait until June like previous models, then you are at like 8 months into your contract. Will it have issues? Probably- basically all phones have issues. Are the G2 issues big enough for you to not be happy? Maybe try the phone for 14 days? I have noticed some lag in browsing with chrome. I need to test other browsers to see if there is a better one. I hope LG updates their phone as it's been very well received for the most part.
Phones are outdated so fast these days. I would recommend picking up a G2 for the trial period and see how you like it. There is no harm in that and it may surprise you. If it doesn't, return the phone and keep your upgrade. :good:
Really depends on how bad your current phone is. Current top phones that are in market are LG G2, Note 3, Nexus 5 (not in any particular order). Newer phones that are rumored are S5 and HTC M8, and probably a release date around March or April. If you can wait that long then wait. I jumped from Galaxy Nexus (Vzw), in September to LG G2, simply because it was great looking phone with specs and got for $140 on 2 year contract and I am glad I made that decision, this phone is awesome. Two things I wanted in new phone battery life and speed and this phone does just that.
Yea. I agree with posts above. The newest and best phones are constantly being released so it won't be long for an even better phone to come out. Even if you wait until the s5 comes out an even better phone will be released shortly after. I personally think that the lg g2 is a great phone and I could not be happier with it. This is my first android phone and there is definitely a lot to like about android and the lg g2

Some of the issues may be big enough for me, unless there are solutions to them such as software updates from LG. Mainly lag and gaming fps/heat issues. But I understand no phone is perfect. I can't get the nexus 5 because I'm on Verizon and I don't know if I want to switch because of the service and plan I have with them.
If I do a 14 day trial do I get a full refund of my money if I don't like it or do I have to pat anything? I remember one time one of my family members got a phone with Verizon and soon after returned and we had to pay for the use of service or something.
Also I currently have an HTC Rezound.

I think at this point in the year all of the carriers/manufacturers have their respective big guns out for the holiday shoppers. I really don't expect any other" must haves" to come until sometime first quarter of 2014, so wysiwyg for now.
For me, the time was now, in fact it's been exactly 2yrs; got the og razr the first day, 11/11/11, and moved up to the g2 yesterday (after a lot of research). What did it for me was the Verizon promo that ended yesterday. Got the phone for free and kept my unlimited data? win:win.

Go now and start enjoying. Better phones will always come out. That said I find it hard to believe (phablets aside) any phone in the near future will offer the performance to battery life of the G2. Sure a faster CPU may come out next year, or a phone may have a nicer build/body (HTC), but all around I doubt the Galaxy S5 or new HTC will offer anything of real significance over the G2.

The whole heat issue I think many people misunderstand especially if coming from a lower power phone.
These SoC chips have better GPU than average laptop integrated graphics, high clockspeeds and no room for a heatsink.
It is pushing 2 million pixels to the screen, per rendered frame. Of course its gonna heat up.....as long as it is within SoC thermal limits it is of no concern
I have the G2 and notice none of this game lag or heat issue at all i dunno where you heard this?
I can assure you no phone has better integrated gpu than a laptop.

I don't know how it works on Verizon, but with Sprint any phone you purchase has a period of 14 days where you can return it for a full refund. Sometimes companies may charge an activation fee of like 20-35 bucks. All carriers have a sort of "trial period" where you can return the phone, but they may each bit a little different. You could try calling your nearest Verizon store and ask them, or maybe try chatting with support online, or just calling Verizon's customer service number online.
The gaming lag may be isolated to a specific model, or maybe a user made certain tweaks, etc. Also could be app related and require the app developer to make a tweak for a phone, etc. There are so many factors its hard to say, but personal hands on experience is always best.
Totes go for the G2

Take the plunge!! It's a future proofed phone man. I buy and sell phones where I am on craigslist and so have used about 80 different kinds this year. My favourites up till the G2 were the HTC One, Moto X and Optimus G. However upon using the G2 i experienced a fluidity and power I've yet to see matched. I mean sure every phone has is caveats but if theres one thing I know its that galaxy devices are known for there fair share of Lag. You can fix the G2's problems with some tweaks/roms/ settings changes. I've yet to have an overheating device when i play dead trigger 2 and nova 3 but not all devices are the same right, theres a ton of disimilarities even within the same model. If you got the cash go for it or the Nexus 5
I say now. What else do you need in a smartphone? The screen is fantastic, the battery is better than any standard device, the processor will handle anything for a very long time, and the camera is in the top tier.
What else do we need?
Since you are on Verizon, did you see the deal few days ago on G2? It was Free with 2 year contract.
The G2 is bleeding edge right now. There will always be another device "down the road" so you might as well have the best while you can.

I have had not a single problem with my G2 when gaming in fact it is the best phone I've used for gaming by far. As for heat issues there is none. For some people they say it's get so hot that it burns them but for 99% of people it is barely hot to the touch. I guess it depends on your heat tolerance.

Exactly. I don't need a high end phone but I decided to go with the LG G2 because I think it's a very capable well-rounded device. Since I am also locked into a 2 year contract, I'd expect my phone to last at least for the next 2 years and I think it won't be a problem with the LG G2. Some of the mid-range phones I got previously felt dated 6 months later.
There will always be another phone on the horizon. But the G2 and other newer phones will likely have the same 800 processor as the upcoming ones and none of the "big three" out right now would ever be classified as bad phones. Get one now if you need it, or get one later if you want to wait.
I was in the same boat. I was thinking about waiting for the S5 as well, I had been due for an upgrade since June of 2012. I really had an itch to get a new phone so I took the plunge and got the G2. Some places say the S5 will come out in January, what if it comes out in the summer? It's a roll of the dice. One thing that made the decision easier was that this device has the latest hardware. ..
I'm happy with it so far, love the knock on feature, battery and customization.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm still indecisive and the other issue I'm struggling with is that I don't really need another smartphone cuz the rezound I have has been working good for me. It's just I'd rather have a faster and smoother phone with better battery life and the latest specs. My rezound lags and the battery is terrible, but it's a great phone.
I was aware of the Verizon deal, but didn't go for the deal. One problem for me money-wise is that even if the phone were to be free, I'd have to pay tax on the full price of the phone because I live in California.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
For anyone wondering if they should get a phone, or wait, just buy the phone you want, not because it's the fastest or newest. There will always be new phones announced, and there will always be rumors. If you keep waiting, you'll never upgrade until you have to. That's what happened to me. I was a long time Motorola user, since the first Droid, but I waited and waited, and waited for the first Moto/Google phone, and was severely disappointed. The only good thing that happened because of all the waiting was I got a G2. Glad I pulled the trigger, and I won't be looking back.

How the hell did you keep your unlimited data? My wife wants a G2 now that shes used mine, but can't upgrade because we're grandfathered in. I had to buy mine off ebay for close to full price.

I believe Verizon charges a restocking fee of like $35, but that might be just the 3rd party stores, because I went through Verizon when I exchanged and they didn't charge me an activation fee or a restocking fee. This was through online and over the phone btw.
