[Q] Swipe to Clear Notification Counts as READ Message - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
As you can see my first post here although I frequently come to xda to fix any problems I have or to browse roms, I love this website! This is the first time that I couldnt find a thread relating to what I am looking for (I hopeI havnt missed it).
At the moment I am using CM 7.1 on my Desire HD.
I was wondering if it is possible that when I swipe to clear a notification (in particular messages, I used GO SMS for text messages and Whatsapp) that it counts as a 'read' message. At the moment it just removes it from the notification bar although the message is still unread.
I hope I made clear what I am trying to get across.
Any help would be grateful. Is what I am looking for even possible?
Thanks!!

I too would like to know the answer to this. I hate having to go into the message application for it to actuallyregister as being read.

Hiding Text Messages

I don't particularly want to have my phone locked and needing a password to get in, but at the same time, there are messages from some people I would feel better that someone who found my Hero couldn't read.
Is there any way to 'hide' messages received from certain contacts?
Did you ever get this sorted? As I am trying to do the same thing.
This apps purports to do what you want:

I've no idea if it works as advertised.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks for suggestion, having looked at it I realised I miss read the original post.
I was trying to stop the first line of the text mesage showing on the lock screen or task bar when it is received. For example, on Winmo there is a checkbox for 'display message on screen', I have it unticked so I have to go into messages to read it.
Dont suppose anyone knows how to do that?
Sorted
Just in case there was anyone else wanting to do the same as me, I found an app on the marketplace called SMS Popup that does it.
Actually Handcent SMS does a better job.

conversations disappear in messaging after 3.14 rom update

there doesnt appear to be anything in search relating to this so here goes.......
.....im getting sick of htc changing so many features and settings on this phone everytime they release an update. ive got another issue now. not mentioning the dozen ive managed to sort myself in the last day or so.
my text messages are now all over the place. if i recieve a message i hit the message icon on the scroll bar and it opens. reply and then close. normal situation. however. when i want to send another message to the same person either by opening their contact info or hitting the message icon and finding the conversation there is no info at all. wtf!!!
if i go to all messages i get a list of all recipients and the last message either sent or recieved but when i click on that person to reply the entire conversation, 1,2 10, 100 messages that are in brackets next to their name are nowhere to be seen. ive tried removing contact pictures, deleting numbers and attaching them to the contact when a message comes in. no luck. been through the messaging settings, cant find anything else to check or uncheck to resolve this situation. ive no contacts on my sim card just the phone.
cheers. i do need to know if its a general thing with this rom or is my phone just playing up? anyone else noticed this? communications is a big part of messaging and as all phones nowadays seem to be able to record and display conversations with each contact i find it hard to believe htc suddenly decided to bin the idea.
anyone got any suggestions as to how i recover this option as i cant be asked to remember the last few messages of every conversation i have. not to mention important information that i cant access if i cant pull up more than one previous message!
I have the new stock Rom 3.14, and I haven't encountered anything like you've described here. What application did you use to restore the backed-up messages after you flashed the ROM?
fixed this. i had installed a cab recently which disables the annoying 'sent message successfully' notification. but this was also causing the above mentioned problem. unistalling the cab means ive got my conversations back and all contacts/messages link properly. see here for all info and further links... http://www.htchd2forum.com/general-htc-hd2-discussion/more-hatred-for-new-3-14-rom-(conversations)/

[Q] Problem with WhatsApp and Missed It!

Hello guys!
I use Missed It! on my lockscreen with a counter for WhatsApp,
and its working fine.
The problem is when i get a message on WhatsApp but I don't read it,
WhatsApp displays to the contact who sent the message that I read it.
It's not a big deal, but it's annoying.
This only appears when I use Missed It!.
I searched on the forums and in google but I didn't find anything.
Is there a solution for this problem?
Same problem.......
The double green checkmark icon does NOT mean the other person read your message. It means the person received it.

Notifications staying after being addressed

I can't believe no one brought up this problem yet, but after searching xda and googling for days I still have not found the answer.
I just switched to android, after years of iPhones I took the plunge and got a galaxy s3.
I assume ex iPhone users nag the most so my apologies in advance but please bear with me.
The S3 is great sofar, even though I am still getting used to it, one thing I can't get over though is:
Why do notifications stay in the notification bar after I already addressed them?
It drives me insane!
Example: if I check my new emails on my laptop or work computer, my s3 still shows I have new mail, same for facebook etc.
There must be a way for this state of the art device to dismiss them automatically. ..right? !
Please tell me I am not crazy and that someone fixed this, I'd be very grateful
Thanks!

As an Android user I also find it annoying. Regarding sms notifications; you must physically open them from the notification bar to get rid of them. Others, like email should disappear if you press "Clear". Facebook is another three-way problem. If you open the app from the icon the notifications remain and the notifications on the browser based Facebook still indicate you have unread posts. If you open the app via the android notifications bar they are sometimes still shown in the app when you "back out"
Frustrating. I keep thinking I'm popular

[Q] SMS/Chat issue

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been asked before but I've searched around and I think the keywords are a little too generic to find what I'm trying to do.
When I'm using the messaging application (SMS) to speak to somebody else on an Android phone it keeps switching between SMS and 'chat'. It flicks between the two and slows the phone down, plus I don't really want delivery notifications or anything like that. I just want to send good old fashioned text messages. I have also found that 'chat' can be quite flakey, I have sent a few 'chat' messages to a friend who received them all 12 hours later. I'm constantly having to tap the menu and press 'Switch to SMS'. Irritating...
I've gone through the settings in the messaging application but I can't find any way to disable 'chat' all together. Am I missing something blindingly obvious here?
Thank you
