[Q] (help) How to change the boot logo(splash screen) for ICS-based system? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For GB, i can easily use the app, SGS2-Boot logo to change the boot logo, but after I upgarded to ICS, it didn't work any more.....every time i boot on my phone, the screen shows ''no logo.jpg'' found....and then go to the boot animation....
thx in advance...!

I do search the forum....but only applicable to GB rom....

Are you on stock rom or using a modded one?
You will need to root your phone and follow these steps:
1. Get a boot animation and make sure it's zip name is: bootanimation.zip and put it on your phone memory.
2. Put it (with a Root Explorer) ChangeMount R/W to R/O then Copy the bootanimation.zip to /system/media
3. reboot and enjoy the "new" bootanimation

Change by root

What if I'm only trying to change/remove the first splash screen (usually the one that comes with carrier logo) and leave the boot animation alone.

Next Question
Thanks Cyberboob,
It worked.
Now how can I change the "reboot"/"turn off" animation as well?
Cheers

where put down animation?

Do you mean bootanimation?
Make a backup of the original Bootanimation located on the path /system/media the file it's called bootanimation.zip
Download the animation that you want, on the Mirrors Index we can have some animations made by the users of RR.
Rename the file that you download to bootanimation.zip (in case that the name be different)
Copy the bootanimation.zip to your SD card
Copy the file to the path /system/media, this process need to be made with some file explorer that let you change the permissions from 'Read Only' to 'Read and Write', personally i'm always working with Root Explorer (paid) but if you want, you can use ES File Explorer (free)
Replace the original bootanimation.zip with the one that you download
Reboot and enjoy
Of course, root is needed. It's a bit complicated for noobs. Good Luck.

Then coming from GB after you've changed the logo, you need to restore a jb modem, then restore a jb nandroid backup.

I think you need to go back to GB first, then change the logo using the incredible app.

[GUIDE] Changing your bootanimation for Arc

There are 2 ways you can do it:
1. Buy the boot changing application from the market.
2. Download Root Explorer (a must have for root users). Make sure you enable R/W option. Go to /system/media (this is where your bootanimation file is). You can copy/delete/paste any bootanimation.zip you download to this directory.

So what happens when we delete the original bootanimation.zip?
Will my xperia arc s boot faster? Or will the bootanimation by default be replaced by a sony ericsson text. Or alternative 3. Will my screen go black for the same time as the animation normally shows?

You can also copy a bootanimation.zip (leave it zipped) to /data/local/ and change the permissions: "owner/user: ---, group: rwx, world/everybody: r-x" (chmod 075)
Then you don't have to replace anything. When you delete the file you will get the the old SE boot-animation back.

Probably not. Or maybe below a second. Don't know if you get a black screen or bootloop when you delete the file in the media dir.

So.. I has deleted the original bootanimation.zip on my xperia arc. It doesnt boot any faster. But the animation is gone. Instead there is the sony ericsson text followed by a "Android" animation, lol. Its nice and feels clean but it was not my attention

I figured that the animations would not take much resources. It's not like you are playing a movie or something, more like a gif image.

[Q] Installed Omega Rom - Kitchen files, How to mod?

HI
I installed the Galaxy S3 Omega Rom and downloaded the Omega Kitchen files from the google Play Store
"Omega Files Galaxy S3"
Ok so on my mobile I choose the battery mod and the boot up animation I want. It's a zip file and I download it into my internal card so how do I Install it?
The instruction says "Install the files using your favorite method". and I'm left scratching my head saying to myself how... from where? What do I use to install it?
Please help?
Depending on the kind of file, it differs. If it's a zip file, usually it will be flashed through recovery. If a regular file, then use your root fine manager and replace it with the original file in the corresponding directory

Things you need:
1. Root
2. Root Enabled File Manager
3. New Boot Animation
I always recommend a nandroid or cwm backup of a phone. If you decide to try this be careful that you don't delete or rename the wrong files and I take no responsibility if you do.
1.Using your file manager browse to system > media
2. You will see a file called bootanimation.zip. Copy it out. Browse to your sdcard to the location of your new boot animation
3. Rename your new boot animation to bootanimation.zip if it isn't already
4. Copy the new boot animation to system > media
5. Reboot and Enjoy
If you ever want to change back to stock boot animation delete the bootanimation.zip and repaste the original bootanimation.zip and your set to go

Bootanimation Request

Since Samsung has decided to be non standard and not use a simple bootanimation.zip and instead use their qmg files I have no clue how to change my boot animation. I really just want the stock animation from the Nexus, not a fan of the Samsung one and figured since I am rooted etc. might as well use the Nexus one. No clue if anyone here can actually make them either, just figured I would ask.
Guess it's not possible, too bad, but oh well.
Check here
This is what I used
Oh, nice! I figured it was impossible since Samsung likes to be dumb about certain things.
I was a little confused with his instructions as first but finally got it.
This is exactly what I did step by step:
Navigate to system/media & deleted both bootsamsungloop.qmg and bootsamsung.qmg. and while still in the system/media folder paste the Nexus bootanimation zip here
Next I navigated to system/bin and deleted samsungani and while still in system/bin I renamed bootanimation to samsungani.
Now I did all of this to a ROM zip using 7zip because I prefer it this way but either way will work fine
---------- Post added at 04:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:54 PM ----------
Oh and if you want to get rid of the bootup and power off sounds navigate to system/media/audio/ui and delete the PowerOn.ogg and PowerOff.ogg files. There are four folders in here as well: BST, SPR,VMU & XAS and each of them contain a PowerOn.ogg file. I deleted the one in the SPR folder which removed the sound but since your on Verizon I'm not sure which one you should delete.
ThIs works on the stock/rooted ROM, but it doesnt work with beans ROM for some reason.
Oh good I couldn't get this to work on beans either I thought it was me lol

LOL, it's not just you.
I had a flaming skull boot ani that worked perfect until I flashed beans ROM.
Then it stopped and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I tried would get it working again so I finally gave up.
I'm on bean's ROM and got it working just fine, now have the stock Nexus boot animation.

Did you do anything different than what it says here??
I ask because i follwed these instructions back when i did the root66 thing and it worked perfectly, when I tried the same thing with beans I could never get it to work.
Edit: NVM, I went back and tried all the steps again and now it works just fine.
I must have forgotten one step the second time, although I was almost positive I didn't.

Removing them doesn't hurt a thing (except that you have to reflash if you want to restore them), but there is no advantage whatever to doing that.

Ok if you don't mind telling me EXACTLY step by step what you did. Be precise, I don't mind reading. The more info the better! I had the same issue when I was making my bootanimation for this but it was because I built my animation wrong. Also did you happen to save the original bootanimations?
This ^^^^And/or also, did you delete the Power on/ Power off folders and/or sounds?
RE:
I deleted the system/media bootanimation.zip and bootanimation_sprint.zip as well as the shutdownanimation.zip and shutdownanimation_sprint.zip. Relplaced them both with several different files (at different times, obviously) to make sure it wasn't a problem with just the boot animation I was trying to use. Deleted the power on and off folders from carrier/cust. I did not delete the sounds. I do have another G3 that worse comes to worst, I will root and copy the entire folders and replace them on my g3. Should I delete the sound folders as well? Thanks

Just to cover all bases - did you change permissions? Sorry if it was implied but I don't want to assume anything. Don't delete the sounds, just leave them be because they wont interfere with the bootani. Did you flat out delete the originals without making a backup? Since you tried different bootanis it sounds like its a permission issue but if you did that properly as well I'm not sure. When I messed up my first bootani, I put the originals back, fixed permissions and it booted up with the sprint spark animation again......

Yes i deleted them, foolishly. My permissions are set to "rw--r--r--T", My files are .zip format, i notice some people said extract them, but doesnt that defeat the purpose of the .zip name?
Sorry I'm very new to LG phones after dealing with Samsung so long. I also tried to use rom toolbox to change the boot ani to one of their gallery ones to no avail.
Is there anyway you could copy the entire folder and send it to me as well as the power on/ power off folders?
I dont know of anyway else to fix this

Again just to be sure does it say "644" when you change permissions? What you wrote "rw--r--r--T" Should be "-rw-r--r--T". The "T" isn't truly necessary but if you do select the T it would say 1644. Either 644 or 1644 should work.
I have a backup of the original bootanimations somewhere but my folders have all been altered. As for extracting them.....it has to be a .zip file. bootanimation.zip and bootanimation_sprint.zip. Extracted them would give you folders and a text file but your system only knows to use those two zip files in that exact location with those exact permissions as bootanimations. Also, exactly what bootanimations did you use?

Root browser won't let you change permissions? You either need to update supersu or more likely, try a different browser/file Explorer. I use solid explorer which has a free 14 day trial. Es is free though, try that.
