Looks great but I don't like that the camera sticks out from the rest of the body. I hated that on my incredible and I like that the rezound fixed it.

Using both cores?

In my system monitor app it shows two cores but the second one is greyed out and says its 100% idle the whole time. Does the os not use both cores? Or is the app possibly wrong?

It means it's not being used. The second core is used as more of an 'overflow' core.

Oh OK.. so do you think dual core isn't really necessary? Do any apps benefit from it yet?

Dual core isn't "necessary" but yeah you will see pretty nice gains when both cores are used on the OS level. Also when more appps/programs are coded for multithreading we will enjoy the extra core. I mean alot of windows 7 phones are still single core and there's like no lag that I've heard about, same applies for iOS. Yes I know each OS has it perks and cons, but with this level of hardware on Android devices we shouldn't have any transitional/UI lag. Hoping that ICS will address this issue finally.

Hmm. I don't think GB is designed truly for dual core, not sure if it fully utilizes the extra core.

that was my understanding. Gingerbread wasn't written to run on two cores, just the one. Hence the reason why until we get ICS, the Nexus will be a "faster" phone as it will actually utilize both cores.
we just need Mango (Windows Mobile 7.5) then we kick it into TURBO speed!... w00t
hahahahhaha
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
My understanding of this is that Android at the system level (ie, the underlying linux) is SMP capable and active. Distinct apps will run on each core as the OS sees fit.
What isn't dual core about android is the application layer. A given app cannot multi-thread and use two cores. That comes with Honeycomb +
TL;DR - You get some benefit from Dual Core now - you will get more later.

Since we're waiting on an ICS or CM9 drop...

I figured this might be fun. I just upgraded my desktop tonight...

i've been using JoelZ's unofficial cm9 all day and if you don't mind not having a camera, it has the potential to be a great daily.
Meh, I need 4G for a daily driver, hence why it feels like development had slowed to a crawl for me.
Anyway, just picked up the AMD FX 8-core for my MAME/media center arcade cabinet. Wonder how high I can clock it with my air cooling setup.

Same. Have had some wifi connectivity issues but other than that everything works. Battery life sucks but that will get better as development progresses. Facebook sync not working is bugging me but I'm assuming that's on FB's side, they need to pick up the slack. I can live without a camera for a short time but since my girlfriend lives in another state currently, camera for video chat is a must.

I understand that it is miles behind the Intel Core iX series, but the fact that I'm using it for emulation in an old arcade machine and the price I paid makes it more then justifiable. Got the CPU, a good motherboard, a Cooler Master radiator, and 2 huge fans for it, all for around $250. I'm using the hard drives, DVD ROM drive, power supply, and old ati x1300 from my old computer (the ASUS motherboard decided to crap its own BIOS out).
Don't ask me why I'm still using an x1300, unless you can find me a true ATI HD 4xxx, I need it to display the 15khz horizontal refresh the arcade monitor needs to sync.

fallen in the apple's trap.
come on! this looks like every modern phone has to look like! big screen, thin frames, speaker at the top and buttons at the bottom. Still talking about rounded corners? what do the manufactures have to do then? square phones with sharp edges?
Wtf???? Looks like iphone? Where?

No the front of the phone actually looks like an iphone... I'm serious like how the bezel around the screen cuts straight down instead of having some trim showing, and the corners are rounded in the exact same way the iphone is. The front is also shaped the same, just blown bigger 150% or so....

Confirmed to be a fan-designed render, not an official render.
More phablets incoming but I think it is a little late for HTC as Samsung really got it right with Note and incoming Note 2 for this form factor
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
This phone DOES look great, and I may be beating a dead horse here, but phablets are just kind've ridiculous. I have a 4.3 Inch Thunderbolt, and I have to stretch my fingers a bit as it is to reach from one side to the other one handed. phablets are impractical for non-business situations
not official
There is no official rendering yet

I think this has to be the best display I have seen on a phone. My One X is a beautiful display but it is too saturated especially in the reds. It makes peoples faces appear way too rosy. I am surprised by how tinted the Nexus screen is though. That is WAAAY to warm! What's really crazy is how much a difference in visible screen is present with the lack of on screen buttons. It's even more sad is that the phones are basically the same size so there is no rhyme or reason to use on screen buttons especially with how our capacitive buttons completely blend in.
Wow I know I shouldn't be bumping old threads, but this really puts the whole NAVBAR debate down the drain for me. I like having the option of having the on-screen keys, but looking at a phone the same screen size and seeing how much is actually cut off with on-screen buttons just seals the deal for me. Long live the OG!
Yeah, I was using the nav bar on my OG for a while, but missed that extra bit of screen area, so I switched back. Not a big fan of the placement of the two outside capacitive buttons on the OG either though. The LMT Launcher app is a godsend.
Wow. There is definitely a major difference there. LMT launcher makes it all the more tempting to do the N4 conversion, though. Basically makes the OG a BETTER N4. LOL

Go for Nexus 4 bro, great phone.
Meizu MX 4 core is the only 4 inch quad core in market.. Others start from 4.7-6 inches
My opinion - go and buy a big screen device.. Trust me you wil fall in love.. Later you will realise WTF was I doing with a small screen!!..my XP is so small compared to my S3.. I love my S3's display... Get a device with in 4.3-4.7 its not that big as u r thinking...this is the big screen era. Don't fall behind line Apple..
