Nova, Apex, Trebuchet - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I'm not trying to make a versus thread. I have tried all three and to be completely honest they all basically feel the same to me- I was just wondering if there are any snazzy features in one absent in the other. I am personally using Nova launcher currently but it has stopped working on me several times on AOKP build 32. Also if anyone could give a little input for reliability on either apex or trebuchet as i've been using Nova the longest I believe.

I think apex is the best. It seems to be totally fully featured, as in a few things that come free as opposed to paying for a few extra features on nova (I can't remember exactly what the were)

I installed APEX as soon as I installed AOKP and I havent look elsewhere.

Apex bothered me with its "All, Downloaded, Widgets" app drawer setup, and I didn't see a way to remove the Downloaded tab. So I use Nova.

Apex They are great at responding to e-mails if you have any problems. I was having an issue they gave me a beta version that's not released I gave them feedback and then they pushed the beta to the play store

That part of it is a tad on the weird side, since it is not called that in the drawer

I have to be honest, I used ADW back with CM7 and just kept on using it. Easier to keep backed up even since no ics rom seems to use it so it's not a system app.
As long as I can make folders and stick five apps at the bottom I'm happy.

well it sounds like I need to get more friendly with Apex, but I do agree that trebuchet is a good launcher. Nova has just unfortunately slipped up too many times for my tastes...

Apex ftw!

I've been playing around with apex and got my homescreens how I like them but one thing i've had trouble with is widgets. Several widgets have needed re-sizing and in order for the widget to not be chopped off i have to re-size it to where it takes up more room than it should. I have stock (240) dpi, and I played with the persistent search bar but no dice. It may just be that they aren't being sized correctly in the first place by apex i dunno...

Why i say trebuchet beats them all its because it works the way it should no issue really simple settings and doesn't too much like a custom launcher...

I use Nova and paid for Prime. It's only a little bit of money. I tried Apex and didn't like it as much. I didn't like Trebuchet because I couldn't do anything about the dock. Roll with what you want.

i didn't like Trebuchet launcher. There wasn't really that much customization you could do. Apex was pretty cool IMO but, for some reason i couldn't place down any widgets, so i moved on to Nova Launcher. It works fine for me. I haven't had any problems whatsoever and i can deal with the free version. Just my 2 cents

I like apex it has a little more options to customize things like folders and how they look. It was a little annoying how I couldn't put Widgets down from application drawer but if you long press screen you could place widget down or download apex apk and move it to system apps through root explorer and reboot.

I've been using pure breeze launcher and have been loving it.
The biggest part I like is the kite. Almost any program I'm in I can bring it up and have my most used widgets and shortcuts available. And all I have to do is hit the back button and I'm back where I was.
I especially use it with the xda app. Sometimes during writing a post and I'm not sure about specific directions, I bring up the kite, open the internet, double check info or even download a pic of what I'm talking about, then hit the back arrow and my half written post is still there. I can continue on like I never left.

Sounds like Wave launcher. I mean "kite" functionality. The best part about Wave is that you can use it with any other launcher as a "add-on". Last week was free as Gold app on GetJar. I checked and it's still free. Give it a try.

Wave launcher is awesome! I really think google needs to buy them and put wave launcher in as stock android.
But with the kite it allows you to bring up the app list where you have all your apps. And all you have to do is hit the back button.
It let's you use your launcher app, as an app, when you switch between apps.
Imagine pressing your home button now and being able to check out you home screen, open your app drawer and run a program. And you can press back to get to the previous app you were in before you pressed the home button. Pressing the home button doesn't mean closing out (in a sense) what you were doing.

Maybe you didn't know but with Wave you have ability to bring all your apps to any screen. In Wave settings change Long-press functionality to App Drawer. I set time duration to 1 sec.
But I don't use App Drawer much because I use Gesture Search app with Wave so in 2 sec I could launch any app, game, contact etc. from anywhere.

Can people compare and contrast some of these against touch wiz? Do all widgets work with each?
Can you also comment on how smooth they are and known issues? I'm new to touchwiz coming from sense which I actually liked a lot.
Also if I set one as default how can I undo it later?
ADW Launcher all the way, I've messed with a lot of them and it seemes to be the most bulletproof for me anyways.

As an android noob a few years ago, Launcher Pro was great. Then I moved on to Go Launcher and really liked it. After reading this thread and trying some of these others, I've really taken to Regina Launcher. It has many of the functions that I like (3d animations). But to be honest, we are really lucky to have all of the choices that we have at our disposal. The best part about it is that your homescreens and settings are saved with each launcher. So if you find one you like and set it up to your preferences, you can still swap between launchers and your settings are saved with each. So when I revert from Regina back to Go, it is still the same way that I left it.
I'm a big fan of the Sony Xperia Arc launcher with corners.

It's hard to tell. I would have run them with the intent of measuring battery life.
I felt like Go Launcher HD was pretty resource intense. Nova Launcher definitely runs smoother. I ended up buying the pro version.
Go Launcher HD has best implementation of folders, but runs slower and has less options right now. I think that eventually it may be a really great launcher for tablets. If you want a free launcher with folder support then Go Launcher HD is your best bet right now.
I didn't give Apex a lot of time. It seemed buggier to me.
I hope this helps!
ssLauncher
I've just started using SSLauncher -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher&feature=search_result
I *really* like this, especially on a larger screen like the Nook.
I'd say it's kind of a combo between Launcher 7 and using Simple Text or that program that lets you set pictures of any size as icons (can't remember what it is called) It also supports my favorite widgets on screen, too - - but allows them to be resized at something like half or 1/4 icon size intervals. All this is done natively by the launcher app.
It also comes with templates and has some themes. There is a free version - I'm using the paid version which is $3.00.
I'm getting all the functionality on CM7, btw . . . so fluid resizing, etc is not ICS dependent.
It's a new launcher that I stumbled across while searching for something new at the Play store. I may not use it long on my phone, because it seems to work best with lots of screen to fill up. But I think it's a keeper on the Nook.
I'm using Launcher 7. I love that kind of interface. It looks a lot more clean to me. There's a free and a donate version up on the market.

I ended up using ADW Launcher EX myself, I used Go Launcher EX for a while but I found it still pretty buggy in a lot of ways, if I restarted Go Launcher or the Nook the widgets never would reload correctly and every so often the fonts would just get really really big for no reason.
I use Go Launcher HD , but as soon as my WiFi is fixed, I'm gonna try some different ones.
I use Apex Pro on both my phone and Nook. I used to use Go, but found it too resource intensive (though it does, Imo, have the best notification implementation; nothing else I've tried shows Facebook notification badges).
Tried Launcher 7 but didn't like it as much. I'll probably buy Nova Prime the next time it's on sale.

I used Go with my Droid X and Liberty and loved it. Since this is my first HTC I've been giving sense a try, but the thing that drives me nuts is the home screen only sits vertical, where as Go works either or.
I never did theme mine, the craziest i got was enabling some of the cool page transition graphics. I'm starting to lean toward Go again, esp if i can get the sense clock/weather 4x1 widget. I have to say i love that thing a lot.

Same with me, that's a waste of space. Apex launcher doesn't have that black menu bar. Not sure about other launchers.
I used it in the past but found it "choppier" then other options. ADWLauncher EX is my go-to nowadays. never had a problem with it.
I'm trying it right now. It seems to be the only one that I can find that offers a 5 column app drawer and allows resizable widgets for free.
It seems pretty fast, there is choppiness every now and then but that is usually when I'm running other stuff at the same time.
The biggest downside is the Honeycomb menu bar. I emailed the developer about this issue, hopefully they will take care of it since it is a fairly simple fix. If some of you like it too (except for the menu bar), I'd encourage you to email them and complain. The more complaints the higher the chances of a fix. [email protected]

[Q] Note II Launchers. Which one is the best for the Note II and why.

Hi Folks,
I just got the Note II on Verizon. I've previously owned several other Android devices and I've been using Launcher Pro. But since it hasn't been updated for over a year and I've heard that it force closes all the time on Jelly Bean I'm looking for another alternative.
Which one is the most robust/customizable and works well with the Note II. I don't want to sacrifice performance on the Note II as I really like it's speediness and responsiveness.
Here's the ones I've been considering so far in order of my preference so far.
GO Launcher
Nova
Apex
What do you folks recommend? Please list some pros and cons to the ones you prefer and why you recommend one over the other.
On another side note... Is there any way to force the keyboard to enter a space after you select a word from the predicted text? On my Droid Bionic it would automatically enter a space after I selected a suggested word. There was an option to turn that feature on in the settings but I found no such option on the Note II.
Thanks in advance everyone!
Mitch

Just wondering if anyone on this board is currently using Next Launcher 3D, or SPB?
Anyone use both and care to share their thoughts?

Nova Launcher Prime is an excellent launcher.
Only problem I've been having, I can create a folder and put several apps in it. However, after about three or four apps, when I try to add another app to a folder by dragging the app to the folder, the folder and app simply swap locations! It's absolutely maddening!
I've written to the developers, and they've responded by telling me how to add an app to a folder. I KNOW how to add apps! It isn't WORKING! The app and folder simply change locations!
Other then this one issue (which is kind of a biggy), Nova is bug free and a pleasure to use!

I've used Next Launcher it's buttery smooth. They are able to achieve 60 FPS consistently which is very rare for a launcher. Is it worth $15, hell no! Maybe $5 at most but I have used so many of Go's products which are all free so I figured the $15 went to support continued development.

Folders are for noobz. Take advantage of the tabs I have mine set like this. General, Games, Tools, Media, Misc
Seeing as the "General" tab is first I have allocated it to be for any app that I access all the time.
When Eclair and Froyo were around, I used Launcher Pro Plus. Once Gingerbread was released I was on ADW EX until it was destroyed by Go Launcher EX. But then came along ICS and changed the game, I felt like Apex Pro was the best for a long time. Once Nova and Apex both launched "Extra Tabs" I started the tabs on Apex and it SUCKED so I switched to Nova Prime and I feel like it is the best Launcher experience to date.
P.S. I have tried SPB Shell on my SGS 3 and it was slow and buggy. It felt too bloated for me. If you want to try something completely different, I would recommend using widgets and multi picture livewallpaper. You can create some awesome effects.
There is a video on youtube right here going in to detail on how to do some of the stuff (this is over the top for me) but you can play with it. *Note you don't have to use Go Launcher, have a play*
I hope this helps

This error has nothing to do with Nova. It is most likely because you are running a 3rd party Message app or simply a bad mms.apk install. I would clear the cache files or reinstall your messaging app

Probably getting notifications from both stock sms app and 3rd party.
As far as Next Launcher and SPB they are gimmicky crap in my opinion. They might look cool for a day or two but that wears off and you are stuck with a cheap toy-looking launcher that you spent upwards of 15 bucks on. Get ADW EX or Nova or Apex.

Yeah, the 3rd party message app causes the duplicate unless you disable the notification.
I have played with SO many launchers at this point it makes me dizzy. All the 3D stuff/fancy frills are battery kills. I love the stock launcher, but Nova really takes the cake for me.
Yea I did have 3rd party apps but I uninstalled them for that reason cause of the double notifications....still get them though don't knows what's up don't get me wrong I love nova SPB definitely not worth the price and Next was eh I'd rather use nova or EX...still running Nova right now love the gestures to pull up an app!
