CPU limit ? - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hey guys I know this was already asked but still i didn't found an answer . Is there anyway to incrase your CPU limit . Mine it's at 729 . If i set it to 747+ it will block and reboot . So is there a way to incrase it ?
I'm using Kernel roq XIII+ .

The cpu in this phone is what I believe to be an Arm v6 Adreno GPU. The max overclock we can get on the phone (whilst stable 100% of the time) is around 748mHz. I've seen people with 806mHz at certain times using Rom and kernal mixups, like once when I used PerfectPeso and Francos Kernal. Weird occasions...
I'd say max for speed and so on, go 100mHz or around that for lowest, and 728mHz for highest clocks.

Dont underclock below 448MHz. All frequencies below that have the same voltage so its pointless as power consumption will be same. If you clock too low, it'll take more time to come out of sleep. And don't overclock above 748Mhz. If you consistently clock above 748, there is a high chance for kernel panics. I know a guy who did so and now even 748 isn't very stable for him.

That is not totally correct. 122 MHz uses a lower voltage than 245-480.

You mean in the same manner LG chose to use crappy default kernels with defective touchscreen driver, or a crappy GB firmware, yes? Sorry but what LG does or not does is simply irrelevant.
And I did not tell anyone to use 122 MHz, but it is possible and at least with screen off can't hurt. If you don't like it don't use it! But don't act like you knew better.

I use 480-748 with no problems on my current rom (Lupo's CM9 test), if your phone is unstable or simply reboots then you may wanna try another rom/kernel
With popdog's Oxygen rom (version 2.5 at least) I also had no problems with the same range.

See what CPU we have it's one 600 very stable. if you are clocking it more it will heat up that's why it reboots and some time it freezes. I would suggest you you to use it at 600 or you can go little upper side. But if you really want to over clock it high then it has some issues. There are extreme heat. battery drain. reboots. hang. it can break you sound and VGA chip...so do it wisely. in 600 LG P500 is very good.

Every combination will be different. Some CPU will handle higher clock speeds than others. The manufacturer only lets it pass inspection if it exceeds their minimum specs. That means there will be some that can handle more.
You will find out with use.
Your kernel and governor will also make a difference. So will the rom depending on the tweaks used.
Do you really need to clock it faster than that? The faster you go, the hotter you go, which shortens the life of the chip. Heat is the enemy.

Will underclocking CPU save battery?

I had my S2 set to 1.6GHZ and noticed very little battery drop compared to 1.2ghz (stock) so now I am just wondering if it would help me save battery if I set it to 800mhz?
Anyone know if this will help?
And for some reason SETcpu only detects the S2 as 1 core. So hopefully thats just an error and I hope I really have a dual core phone.

Changing CPU speeds will not help you save battery. Undervoltaging (UV) will, however. UV only works on certain kernels, and you MUST know what you're doing before attempting to overclock and undervoltage simultaneously. Read up OC/UV guides around the forum to know more and the recommended speed/voltage pairings.

of course underclocking will give you a bit more battery life. even if you don't undervolt.
underclocking it to 800 simply forbids the processor to go up to 1 or 1.2ghz and it doesn't need as much power as in the higher states.
a normal desktop cpu also gets hotter if its overclocked with its stock voltage. But if you crank up the voltage too, to keep it stable it will get even hotter.

Well, Nordic hardware has done some tests. Undervolting CPU and GPU will not save your batterylife significantly.

Actually it shouldn't. A faster speed allows the CPU to finish the task faster and then go to sleep...

That may be true, but higher frequencies have a higher power draw, the phone at lower speeds should be able to manage with whatever the task is, assuming it's not a extensive app. If you're not a power user you don't need the phone to be clocked at the max freq, you can lower it and you see minor changes in battery life. With dual cores task are handled must better so 1.2ghz+ shouldn't really be needed, TouchWiz can't be as bad as Sense, where you actually need it to be clocked higher.
Oh man, Undervolting is OK but why would you Underclock a CPU? Now don't tell me it's too fast, don't need that speed in real world, you won't notice any difference and etc..If you are gonna Underclock it why did you purchase it on the first place?

For me I think underclocking + undervolting does indeed save battery life.
What I mean is that in my sig '1.6Ghz - 1325 mV' an at '800Mhz -950 mV' you see a difference of 375mV which I think can save your battery life for a couple of good minutes + 800Mhz is enough for my needs along with playing games (Only a tad slower at loading).
That's not necessary true. Yes at a higher frequency the task would complete faster but at the same time the processor with use more current and or increased voltage at the same time. That's why cpu's level up and down. Otherwise why not have the CPU set at 200Mhz-1200Mhz instead of 200-400-800-1000-1200Mhz.

Also why would you underclock + undervolt the phone? Because it saves battery and you won't find any noticeable performance gains between 800 MHz and 1.6 GHz.

I have tried a crap ton of different undervolting setting, but none work
Also the profiles in set cpu don't seem to work for me. I have a few of them set and it always sits on the top one I need some guidence with both please!

Undervolting is a delicate process. It takes time to find the max undervolt that is stable. With that being said, try undervolting everything by the lowest amount which is -25mv. Check to see if that is stable. If so proceed to go further. Remember lower freq will typically undervolt farther than higher frequencies.
As far as profiles go your probably not using the priority values right. The higher priority is what determines which profile setcpu uses. So for instance if you want a safeguard against overheating, you could set the profile for when the cpu goes above 55C to throttle the processor way down. If you set this profile to 100(max) it will overide all other profiles at 98, 99, 75, 50...etc. Also this may be obvious to some but be sure to tick(enable) the profiles button. If thats not ticked then it doesnt matter how many profiles you have set up. It simply wont use them.

When I was on alien rom, I tried 25 on all and it restarted after like a minute. What worked for me was 25 25,50,50,75,75,100 fromm bottom to top. I tried it with cm7 and total no go lol
Lemme tryi 25 on all and see what I get and I didn't know that. They all werent working, so I set them all to 100 lmao, I understand that now

Aparently its been running 125,125,50,75,75,75,75bottom to top cm7 with 1.3 kernel.

Glad your getting some results. If it restarts even once it means at least one of your undervolted freq isn't stable. With your settings I would wager its in the uper freq considering your undervolt in the lower freq isn't too extreme. You might try decreasing the undervolt for your upper freq to -50 -50 -50 starting at the top. Might help to stabilize bc higher freq just require more voltage. If that proves to be stable continue trying to reduce the lower freq as much as possible. Mainly bc if you set your profiles right(screen off is the most important really) your phone will spend the majority of its time on the 200mhz freq. well my battery was draining mad quick so I am not overclocking It anymore unless I want to show off or play games lol, lost 20% in one hour. Now its stable and undervolted

First off, regarding SetCpu and over / undercloking, dev has said it'll only underclock/overclock ONE core at a time. It's a bug and he's working on it from what I understand. If both cores are needed to be in use at the same time, no over / underclocking will be applied. Secondly, profiles work as they should in SetCpu, so that's a problem on your end. Third, the undervolting can't be more than 100mv differnce between jumps. See screen shot.

Yea Im skeptical about not setcpu not having support for dual cores... Did some searching on the net and couldnt find anything to support that. As far as not the tegra 2 not being able to do over 100mv jumps. That's not true. My lowest frequency is 600mv (-150) and my next frequency is at 750mv. That's a 150mv difference right there... And I'm completely stable. Its entirely dependent on your processor. They are all different and respond differently to undervolting. You just have to find what works for you. Generally though the lesser the jumps in voltage will give you more stability.
a good kernal helps too im useing faux123 v2.0 0C1.3 its undervolts quite well

yes battery life can be improved significant also with the overclocked kernal you need higher voltages to remain stable.
Just to make sure you know you need to have a custom kernel flashed such as faux's kernel to do either of these things.
As for values it really is a by phone thing some people will be able to drop voltages quite a buy while other can't drop at all typically though at lower clock speed voltage can be drop much more on my phone at 1000mhz it has a 50mV drop but at 216 its a 275mV drop

Okay, I understand you. At this moment I have the 1.3 kernel from faux. I know some people said that certain voltages can crash your phone, so I wanted to make sure I had help before I messed something up.

Use SetCPU. A good way to undervolt is to decrease all clock speeds by 25mV to start. Play around with your phone and games to see if anything freezes up. Then keep lowering 25mV at a time until you start seeing instability, then put it back up 25mV to where it is stable and you should be pretty good.

Quick tip: Before you start messing with voltage settings go to SetCPU's main screen and press Menu>Safe Mode Instructions>Extract Zip.
I hardly ever see this mentioned, but if for any reason you select "Set at Boot" when testing out settings and get stuck in a bootloop, flashing the zip that is extracted will put you in "Safe Mode" and none of your settings will be applied, allowing you to correct the unstable ones.
Thank you all for your help. I have the voltage clocked at 1125mv from 1200mv (1200mhz) mv and 500mv from 750mv (216mhz). Everything seems to be running smoothly, but haven't been able to run an appropriate test for battery life yet.

Overclocking Problem

hey guys.
i have been wondering about this problem for a long time, and i could not find a solution to it. Thus, i wanted to ask you guys about it. The max i can overclock my phone to is 748. whenever i try to raise it to about 768 or 787, the phone will freeze and restart. is it due to the hardware limitations of my phone? or isit due to some software limitations?
Please help.

Hi. I'm still using Gingerbread stock rom 2.3.3 but with latest franco's kernel. My max. clock is 710Mhz. Anything above that, my phone will get freeze very often. Is there any recommendation on what should i set for my min. clock as well as the Governor?

I use the performance gov. and it's worked well.

I use stock 2.3.3 v20g + franco kernel and set max clock at 729Mhz, sometimes it freeze, but normally work fine (with any gov).
Each CPU is a little different. My OV is stable at 600 with smartassv2 but once I step it up to 729 the phone will randomly freeze or reboot.
Sometimes you get a good cpu that can be OCed a bit, and sometimes you get one that can go no further then stock. If you can OC then consider yourself lucky.
Whenever you try to increase the max frequency beyond a certain limit the CPU can not handle that and tells the kernel about that and kernel starts to Panic... (reboots or freeze)
For example My phone remains stable upto 768 MHz (usually i keep it at 748Mhz....)
but if i increase it to beyond 806 MHz it starts to panic...

Has differences on hardware, already tried with 2 differents P500, one could overclock to 768 Mhz, the other can reach 800Mhz without freeze.

Since all the p500 have same hardware, they can be OC to same max frequency if they have same software config...
806! never freezes but she gets warm! can get over 40 celcius

Mind you i only get about 16 hours of battery life LOL

Dude keep it around 652 and interactive otherwise UR Battery will drain fast
depends on ur ROM+kernel combo.
on oxygen v1.1 i smoothly ran on 480-768 and battery lasted around 2 days with average use.
Now on Cm7 nightly, equally smooth at 729-480 and battery is awesome too..
Overclock
Ohhh!!! lucky guys.. my phone only accepts 672Mhz at max or anything above that value leads to rebooting or freezing.
Rom: Cyanogenmod 9 (Android 4.0.3)[BETA4]
Kernal: Franco Kernal - 4
OC: 480/672 Max
I get 748MHz completely stable when pushing "performance" governor with franco #4.
But irrespective, this is not about bragging...one would see LITTLE real life difference (save for frying the CPU faster) going above 672MHz. Don't just look at synthetic benchmarks...feel your phone.
Oh...and it was mentioned multiple times that 600->806MHz uses the same voltage hence the same power consumption for Sidestep CPUs.
I am running max CPU @ 729 and it has been running smooth for days with no freeze/reboots, I also noticed having the Governer on Performance has helped my battery life and such, i havent noticed the phone getting any warmer whatsoever so no problems with heat, Also I am using a LG-P504 Optimus One which Ive heard is the final release for this phone, so maybe its more stable than the pervious versions.
My p500 can handle 768 max. With some kernels 787mhz. But i am running 245-710 with miui v4: lol:

Yea mine can handle that too but it drains my battery faster I've noticed. So now I run Max @ around 720 which seems quite stable!! Only time I use the nitrous feature also is with playing more top end games which I otherwise wouldn't be able to play without really low fps.

Im using cyanogenmod nightly 7.2.0 build 34 on 748 mhz with any governer and it's working very well.OC also depends on ROM's.each ROM has different capabilities to OC...

Yes u can safely over clock it upto 748 MHz. But over clocking the phone has its disadvantages. So I'd recommend overclocking while playing games whereas keeping it on 600/480 at other times

Yes you can UC and OC this ROM, but as you were told it has disadvantages:
Heating, to mention one. Instability?
If you are using some OC application (e.g. setCPU and similar) that supports profiles, you can enable different frequencies for different cases (screen off, charging etc) so if you're on 729MHz and temperature gets above, say 45degrees, profile can enable something like 600MHz and so on.
I've found through trial and error (actually more error than trial ) that is it not such a good idea to OC this phone beyond 729-748MHz, and it is really dumb to OC beyond it + enable "start on boot" option
So, just in case you finger "accidentally slides" to higher frequency ranges, better have either an "undo settings" flashable file or a recent nand backup...
To make long story short: no real benefit below 300MHz (I had lots of freezes with lower freqs), not much gain above 729MHz (unless you need desperately something to heat the room in the winter ).

i think stable o.c for our optimus 1 is ranges from 320 up to below 700..
by the way im asking it becoz i will use it everyday..
maybe thats all i think.. hehe

Basically there's not much difference between voltages at 320/480 Mhz. So you can use any of them while among the higher ranges 729 is much more stable than 748.What I mean to say is-take your pick

by the way, if i overclock it up to 729? it will make my battery much weaker?
and i think if i use wifi or play it will make my unit hotter? something like feeling something in the back? im just curious )

Over clocking above 700Mhz will always produce more heat than normal...and let me say-while playing games or using internet-you will really feel the heat Battery falls much faster...Do not allow increase of temperature above 40°C or it can seriously harm health of battery
PS-Heat can be decreased by opening back cover and exposing to a fan or something.Personally I overclock upto 748Mhz (mostly 729)

In the thread it's recommended that, as it is unstable, you shouldn't overclock it and stay the way it is
I don't know if mileage will differ from one phone to another, but mine's set to 320-768. I've kept it that way for the longest time, even before trying out 4WISEMONKEYS. So far so good. If I set it to any other 700-something MHz that's when I feel the heat.
