I don't get good 3G at my house and when I'm on edge in get almost full bars. How can I shut off 3G/4g? I did the 4636 thing and selected gsm only but I still see h+. What am I doing wrong ? Is there another way? App?
When change it I just back out by the back button...is there a diffremt way I should do it to save the gsm settings only?

Ok .. sigh... first off... the "bars" you are referring to indicates cell strength(voice calls/SMS) not data speed or strength. I think the atrix shows h+ no matter what as on my nexus it would change to H when using hsdpa and 3g for when on 3g and likewise for edge and even g **edit that's a cyanogen mod**. NOW as for switching to 2g only and disabling 3g it is ( settings> wireless & networks> mobile networks> select network = your choice) no need for *#*#4636#*#*
On another note if your getting slowdown on 3g try a restart... 2g is not going to be any faster.

Besides going through the different setting menus, there are widgets available in the market that will act as a shortcut to the last (or semi-last) preference. I have it configured in Extended Controls

ok...Sigh...
i know what the bars mean. what i am saying is, i get a way better signal at home/work with EDGE. i want to be able to shut off 3g, like i use to be able to on my iphone to save battery, and i jsut dont need the connection at home and work.
i went to the settings, and mobile networks is greyed out? how can i get into that menu?

no matter how many times i go into the 4636 screen and select GSM ONLY it goes right back to GSM/WCDMA
and i am so sick of looking service when it switches over from EDGE to 3g for ONE bar. what am i doing wrong? why cant i get it to STAY on EDGE>..this no service thing is making me wonder if i want to return this phone..

Try the widget call Extended Control and disable it. Good luck

I forgot that I had to unlock my phone for it to work (canada, go figure) maybe thats why mine isn't greyed out.

After selecting 2g only mode, my Atrix still gets 4g speeds...
I am running the same phone under AT&T with 4.5.141. I rooted the phone and enabled the greyed out preference pane to select 2g only. Regardless of if I select 2g only there, and if I use the *#*#4636#*#* code, I can run speedtest and get 4g speeds .... Do I just need to go the cyanogen mod? Are there other preference panes that I need to edit? I am jealous of all of you out there who have successfully whipped their Atrix 4g!

What should my network settings be if I don't have 4G in my area but still want to use 3G and 1X, I know how to change the settings but I'm not sure which one to pick. Under preferred network type it says CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto, but there is not a setting that is CDMA + EvDo and I was under the impression that EvDo was 3G, if this is not correct could someone explain what these things are and what they stand for?
Use CRL auto for just 3g, you will notice better battery life too

That's not a choice, I have CDMA auto (PRL), CDMA only, EvDo only, CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto, and LTE mode

I live in a 3G only area also and I switched to CDMA Auto but my phone never picked up 3G, only 1x
CDMA auto (prl) is the option you should choose in 3g only areas.

So there is a setting burried down in Settings, More settings...Mobile Network. There are two options. CDMA and CDMA/LTE/EVDO. The CDMA option was selected stock. I have changed to the CDMA/LTE/EVDO option. Does this mean I will see/connect to LTE towers as they start lighting up in Atlanta-metro next week?
Or will I have to wait for some push update from Spring/Samsung that adds another connection type (e.g. Wifi, Bluetooth, etc...) to the mix?
The reason I care is that I don't want to root my phone until after I know it will work with LTE so I can ignore the sprint updates after that.
Help?
Was just curious about network settings. Under the hidden menu my prefered network is set to wcdma prefered. Is this the best setting to use? This will still allow lte network correct? Thats what mine is set to default and if I try to change it it goes back to wcdma automatically. If im thinking correctly wont this automatically pick the fastest network available to me? Including lte? I camebto this conclusion because I do get the 4g symbol when Im in the signal area for lte. Also what kind of speeds is everyone getting with LTE? THANKS for the help! Just want to check and make sure this setting isn't preventing me from getting lte speeds.
The menu setting that you see is to only use one of the the technology's and the bands those the technology's uses to connect to the network (e.g. gsm,wcdma)
BTW. None of the l9s have LTE the l9 2 might

I have a one converted to GPE and where I live I get great LTE coverage. However at work its weak and my one is constantly switching between LTE and hspa.
How would I set my phone to only connect to hspa while at work to avoid the constant switching? In setting under network mode there is only options for LTE 3g and 2g.
Does 3g include hspa and if not I've read about a code to enter from dialpad that allows u to set netowkr. I need a method that will allow me to easily switch it depending on where I am.
If anyone knows how to do this any help would be great.
