[poll] What launcher are you using - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello everybody,
Since the stock launcher can't hide app's, i have to look for another launcher.
I tried Laucher Pro, but that doesn't look like the stock launcher.
Next i tried Nova launcher, it was almost perfect, only the app and settings icon are next to each other, which is a bummer
There are others i didn't try yet.
So what launcher is everybody using.
And more important why that launcher, and not an other one?

I use ADW ex
None of the others seem to work right with tablets (unless I am missing one).

What is Stock launcher? I searched the market but can't find it!

It it possible to modify the stock launcher so that apps can be hidden?

I use Go Launcher on my Phone, amazing launcher, sadly the HD (tablet) version is nowhere near as good as the Phone version yet. It is in Beta version tho, and they are working fast on it, but for the time being is meh.
Tried almost all other Launchers that you posted there, and there was always something that I really hated from them, and most of them lagged badly when the Prime was in Eco Mode (Stock one does not lag at all, even with Live Wallpapers)
I found out that the one with best Performance in Eco Mode, and allowed to have better transition effects and such was ADW Launcher EX, Stock is still faster, and Im not 100% happy with the App drawer from ADW (Stock one rocks) but since I organized everything using the "HUBS philosophy" I rarely access the App drawer anymore
Some Widgets do not scroll correctly in ADW, if this happens to you, be sure to scroll using 2 fingers and not one (Not sure if it is a bug or feature). This does not happen with all scrollable widgets tho.

I love SPB Shell 3D and it works perfectly on both the TF101 and TF201.
Why I use it,
up to 16 home screens,
drag and drop to rearrange the home screens,
I like and use the specialized widgets ship with the launcher (wish they'd open up the API for those)
Carousel to move quickly from one home screen to a "far away" screen
It's not quite as customizable as ADW but I very much like the look and feel. The only real downside is the $15 price tag, and no free/trial version.

I've used sob mobile shell 3d on prime. I tested it out it is a really good launcher. I love the carousel and the customized widget pages they have that comes with the launcher. then add in the fact you can easily swap or move the different screens around is an added bonus. its a launcher like no other. I may eventually buy it down the road.
has it had any recent updates or does it get updated alot?

Its the stock launcher but much much more improved

Like the ICS stock browser? Then you shall use "ICS Browser+"
If you like the original ICS stock browser is ICS Browser+ proberly the best browser out the there. Its look like and work like the original browser but adds many handy extra functions. Notice that you can make panel quick controllers with up to three rings and edit them all, as you like !
If you haved use Dolphin Browser you proberly used some plug-ins . I was only missing Dolphin Google Translate plug-in. but with ICS Browser + I instead use Web Translator Pro. Just mark text and touch "share". Then you share with Web Translator and immediately you have the site in a new language.
By PC Magazine selected as one of "The 10 Tastiest Apps for Ice Cream Sandwich" Based on the stock ICS browser, this browser adds many handy extra functions:
* Auto text reflow after pinch to zoom * Option to create extra quick controls (with easy to use quick controls editor. Add up to 3 rings, with extra controls like bookmark page, close other tabs, share etc etc) * Possibility to set the User Agent string * Fine tune quick controls behavior * Option to use volume keys for scrolling * Home button on action bar for tablets * Gesture support. More and more functions will be added along the way.

And it has happened.. Good bye Launcherproplus

Didn't think the day would be here but with ADW EX Launcher I am not looking back. Every once in a while i will load a new launcher to see what is out there and I have always gone back to LPP.... This time it is different.
ADW Ex features the following...
-faster
-less buggy - whenever loading a new app i would have to restart lpp to see it in app draw. LPP would also get stuck in a funny view when going from landscape to portrait.
-the ability to have my livewallpaper as the drawer background with options to change font color of icons.
-multiple draw options
- swipe gestures, especially to bring up hidden dock bar that holds 7 icons.
-super large icons for the main dock bar
-just runs better and I believe takes up less memory then LPP.
Found an app, which i think is a rip off of LPP, it is called Colorize widgets, and it basically has all the LPP widgets, for all other launchers. With this I have all but one function missing from LPP...
Only thing missing is scrolling main dock to add more icons, and swipe gestures on dock icons to open up other applications.
I had a separate scroll dock in LPP for important direct dial icons... Instead I loaded folder organizer and made a special label with those contacts. Then I just put the label icon in my main dock and set it to LIST view with ICON and TEXT. So now when I click on the icon i get a nice big list to click on to call my important contacts.
There are still a few bugs with ADW especially with the Streak, but they will probably be ironed out in the next few days because it effects other larger devices...
not sure what is taking Fredrico C to come out with better features or that new re-written Launcherpro.. but this is now my primary option.
Its a cat and mouse game between the two giant launchers
Same thing happened with me after discovering ADW Ex!! Installed it, loved it and it was bye bye Launcher Pro Plus!! The only thing I really miss about LPP are the LP Widgets and the scrolling dock. Colorize is nice, but I still prefer the LP widgets over it.
Scrolling main dock and gesture shortcut dock icons for the win....
I wont be going back. I have found some alternatives that work for me to compensate.

I had tried the ADW free before, and I still went back to LPP. In fact, I have tried many of the free launchers out there, and LPP is the only one I found that I wanted to pay for. I still go back to it.
I haven't tried the pay version of ADW yet. How big are the differences between ADW free and pay?
My favorite thing in LP is being able to hide things from the drawer, such as things i have on my home screens. I tried adw and didnt see anywhere to do the same.

If you still didn't try Go Launcher, Do it!
It has most of the ADW and LPP features and then some, for free.
Love the ability to organize app drawer in folders and the built-in task killer and history.
I am skeptical about the go team. Who are they and how do they make money? Are they chinese spies stealing data from our phones?

Or you could try VLTlauncher... it's still in beta, but that doesn't matter cuz it's free and downloadable if you search for it within XDA. VLTlauncher is a launcher based on ADWlauncher Ex optimised for the Streak.

So these launchers seem to be more for editable drawer, correct? Ive got go, pro launcher, and adw and to me they feel less snappy than zeam. Most of the themes also seem to be icon packs more than anything. None of the themes I tried really feel to be extensively customized to feel different than stock launcher theme. Any suggestions for custom themes?

So fast and smooth that it makes you wondering why google can't get a better launcher. Maybe ICS will be the answer...
ADW EX is the best for our tab. Day and night difference when compared to stock launcher
I am in the same boat as everybody else and I agree with everything everybody has already said.

Related question, does anyone have insight on free version of ADW? It seems to do most of the same stuff, just curious if there are features on the paid version that would be must-haves.
Differences between ADW.Launcher and ADWLauncher EX
ADWLauncher EX is based on the ADW.Launcher opensource core with a lot of new additions and improvements, like for example:
-5 different app drawer styles/behaviors
---3D Nexus One like application drawer
---2 different plain vertical drawer styles, the "old one" and a new fast and smooth one
---2 different Iphone-like horizontal application drawers, a traditional paginated one and a new one with continuous fling
-Different desktop transitions: new animations while navigating through your desktop screens. Try them all, they're crazy!!!
-New Icons configurations/look and feel: Tweak your desktop icons, change its sizes, add coloured backgrounds, change font size, color, etc!
-New fast presets mode: Quickly change the whole desktop configuration by 1 click!
-Editable desktop icons for applications, shortcuts and folders!
-Lots of code improvements
-More, more more to come!!
thats straight from the market hope this helps
Thanks, I did read that on the market. I guess my question was more related to actual use and experience, but I guess I will just go ahead and try the free version, and if it doesn't do enough of what I want I will buy the pro version. I just didn't want to spend a lot of time working on it just to have to do it all over again if I upgrade.
I totally agree.. ADW EX is definitely the way to go here. I haven't found anything that even compares. It's good on my Droid X but when they ported it to the tablet they added so many nice touches!

I guess I'm alone in thinking that adw is trash but oh well. Prior to using trebuchet on the ics kang I used SPB shell 3d. Its 15$ but its completely worth it, imo. Go launcher isn't tablet ready yet and probably won't be for awhile. Or you just flash the ics kang and be done with it (and save the money)
I have both AdwEx and SPB Shell on my tab. I like adw way better. SPB shell looks good but I think it compromises productivity for the look.
Just purchased ADW EX after reading through this thread, liking it so far , very quick and responsive. I'll be sticking with it for a little while.
i use go launcher just because i can make folders in app drawer. i find i gets super cluttered when you have 20+ games all the **** Samsung apps and Google apps you suddenly start to see three pages of apps. i never find what i just downloaded if i want to try some new app/game, so its nice to putt all games in one folder all productivity apps in one etc.
so far non of the other launcher have this feautere. oh and iphone like uninstall, just hold down on an app and click red x to uninstall. brilliant.

[Q] Smoothest Launcher for SGS II?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm still forced to use good old Launcher Pro on my SGS II. Reason being that it's the smoothest launcher I've tried - in a sense that it's the most responsive to swiping screens. Also, its calendar widget is very nice, same as in Go Launcher.
I admit I'm a bit over-sensitive to even slightest lag. Even a several millisecond delay when swiping screens or opening the app drawer pisses me off.
My personal experience:
Go Launcher Pro - best customization, worst response. Heavy and sluggish. After deep sleep, there's a huge delay when swiping screens, until screens are cached. Until they are, it feels slllllloooowwww. Same on my Nook Tablet - horrific delays after deep sleep.
TouchWiz launcher - pretty damn fast and responsive, but even TW 4.5 has very limited customization. Also, when using multiple widgets, I start noticing an FPS drop in swiping from widget-heavy screens. For example MIUI Clock (from market) - swiping to and from the screen with it will always have noticable frame-skip.
Zeam Launcher - very smooth, but same frame skip problem as TW launcher. Unfortunatelly, very little customization.
Launcher Pro - fastest, lag-free swiping. Sadly, an abandoned project and missing lots of customization that'd be nice for modern ROMs.
Nova Launcher for ICS - fast and smooth, but still FCs every once in a while, lack customization. It's in beta, obviously.
ADW Launcher - haven't tested it for a while, but I remember not-so-great swiping response and lacking customization that I wanted.
What's your experience like? What do you recommend?

Where do you get that LauncherPro is an abandoned project? Yeah, it hasn't been updated in quite some time (May 2011, I think), but the forums on their website looks active, and it's still available in the market? I'm just curious, as I use LP, and I'd hate to see development on it stop.

Development on it has stopped a long time ago. Last update was simply to add transition effects.
Francisco has moved on to music app and other things. His "representatives" (whatever that means) kept telling everyone on the forums that development is not dead, he simply hasn't touched the code for past, oh, year or so. So yeah. It's as dead as it gets.
Forums are active mostly because people are asking when development will continue, begging for updates.
I find ADW Launcher EX to be smooth, and its far better than normal ADW.

This. Been using GoEx for a couple of months now. Have tried other launchers (incl Touchwiz), but keep coming back to GoEx for the reasons Mariosraptor mentioned.
I flipflop between LPP and adw Ex. Given up GO, I found it sluggish and I hate the home icon on the dock.
adw>LPP for customisation, LPP>adw for speed. If LPP had more gesture actions and we could resize dock icons it'd be perfect for me, but development is deader than a dodo.
Haven't installed/used TW for 6 months.

I like ADW Launcher EX as well... But the thing I REALLY like about LPP over ADW is the scrollable dock, allowing for 10 more shortcuts. If ADW had that, I would move over in a heartbeat.
Was a launcher pro plus user but go launcher is what I prefer due to its widgets, the Facebook and twitter ones are useful for quick updates. Calendar widget is good as well.
I find the supported decant not as smooth as launcher pro but no big issue.
ADW ex is also good use it on my tablet and its fast and customisable.

the only thing that annoys me with ADW EX is that you can not have folders in your app screens like go launcher. yes i know you can have them on your desktop but not really the point is it and makes the app screen full of apps...specially if you have over one hundred...or the feature is there and i do not know how to work it? any ideas from someone to correct me please

Fair enough - but then you have to remember what each of the icons' gestures launches. It won't display it, right? I still prefer the scrolling dock.
EDIT: also, in LPP, you can add gestures to each of the possible 15 icons in the deck as well. Leading to a whopping potential 30 shortcuts, just in the dock. I don't use the swipe gestures though; 15 total dock shortcuts suffices for me for now.
Personally, i prefer and use 360 Launcher from XDA, that is surely the most customizable, fast, smooth and easy to use launcher ever seen!

Definitely Go Launcher for me. Highly customisable and zero lag.
Of you have lag on wakeup, maybe try a different kernel and governor etc.

It has got a nice group/folder feature for the homescreen.

i used go launcher till a few hours ago and it's laggy as hell once you add widgets etc. it's widgets were nice though. launcher pro is dead now with the author claiming something new is coming out to (i assume) get people to buy the old version
i'm using my old pure messenger for fbook and sms widgets. gmail now includes a decent full screen widget. i just need a decent scrollable calendar one.
Found SS launcher the other day and I'm hooked. Man, it is so different I love it. Can even add things below the screen and scroll vertically on a page. It lags a bit sometimes but with updates it will get better.

+1. Bought the pro version, ridiculously customisable, have hardly scratched the surface yet. Had some bootloops and lag, but they seem to have disappeared today.
My current setup with it is intensely boring, but I'm into lists at the mo, and my battery time is huge.
Only downside is centring widgets - a PITA.

+1. Bought the pro version, ridiculously customisable, have hardly scratched the surface yet. Had some bootloops and lag, but they seem to have disappeared today.
My current setup with it is intensely boring, but I'm into lists at the mo, and my battery time is huge.

Nice! I did notice it on the desktop thread earlier. The beauty of it are the endless possibilities.
As for widgets, yeah they can be tricky to centre. Sometimes they are a bit small as well so I drag half to the next page, enlarge then centre. I have a few hidden out of view like the power and music widgets.

They are only compatible with ics.

Nova allows you to resize widgets on the ics beta. Works quite well too.

after changing the density to 160 (from 240) there was something up with all the stock launchers (mentioned in the subject). some wouldn't allow the resize option at all, another did but i couldn't move widgets to the top or sides. there was this big border where i couldn't have any shortcuts or widgets.
h/w acceleration...
So, I don't get is Go Launcher h/w accelerated? If not which are?
go definetely isn't. zeam feels like it is but has no scrolling support so not worth looking at.
ok, trying nova again. for some reason it works properly now i've installed it off the market.
Zeam is too simple and minimalistic for me, I really like the "TSF Shell" but it's not complete yet, a lot of things to do... and it's EXPENSIVE... But it has H/W acceleration and it has a lot of interesting functions... just watch on youtube. It's nice and smooth!
Didn't try NOVA because I'm still on GingerBread (LA4), and as far as I know it's only for ICS...
I wonder why GO developers are ignoring H/W acceleration =(
me too. go launcher with hw accel would be worth a go again. at this point, anything without that isn't worth looking at IMO. far too laggy in comparison. nova now (even with 7 screens full of widgets) is nice and fast. like the stock samsung browser

Best launcher to use for Tab S

Hey guys. Just wondering what launchers you have rocking on your Tab S.
I currently have Nova Launcher and Smart Launcher Pro. Both are very light on memory and I can zip through everything without a lag on my Tab S.
Any others?

I've been running Nova. It's pretty much my go to and I like it, but I'm looking for other options as well.
Works well and nice and smooth.
Nova is always my goto as well.

What grid size do you all use on Nova? I always have it looking weird where I have too many icons or they are too far apart.
Go Launcher Ex is far more feature packed than Nova and has cooler animations and themes. Additionally it seems to make whites whiter which means your browser will have more contrast and you can turn brightness down. It also has an extensive list of custom widgets. In addition when holding the tablet in landscape mode the icon dock goes vertical on the right side which is very handy because you can scroll through icons with your thumb.
Go Launcher bothers me. I've tried it on other tablets. It looks nice and does lots of things but there are so many addons that I feel I'm being sucked into something (not quite sure what). I like Nova or for simplicity CM's Trebuchet.

Chinese mind control ☺
I use NEXT launcher which is made by the go launcher team. I'm sure it's a system hog but I like the themes from Magic4works. I also like 3d mode on my phone. I do use Xprivacy to block personal information though.
Nova is my go too also very smooth experience and no lag on my note 3 and my g pad 8.3

(In robotic voice) Must download another addon...
I'm loving Lightning Launcher Extreme. It takes a bit to learn and get used to, but it's the *most* flexible and customizable launcher I've seen, and I went through about a dozen in the last year or so.
The trick to LL is to remember that it's a tree, and that all the branches are containers and all the leaves are single objects, and that all properties are inherited from the parent.
Each container is essentially a separate desktop that can have it's own size and grid, so my desktop can be a 10x16 grid, and my launcher bar can take up a 10x1 space, but internally be a 9x1 space.
Each container is individually zoomable and scrollable, unless you tell it not to be.
Containers and objects both can be unpinned from the grid and moved, rotated, skewed, and scaled with subpixel precision. This includes widget!
LL can also designate a desktop as the lock screen... so you can customize that as well.
As a topper, the Extreme edition allows scripting in JS with a few launcher specific extensions.
As mentioned, it took a bit to figure out, but my home screen is *exactly* how I want it.
Go Launcher is horrible. Are you being serious? I'm running Nova currently, but I've used, and purchased, the premium version of every launcher that's been out for longer than a year. I just get tires of the layout, or the interface, or something, so I go through all of them, shortly after I remember why I didn't like it, and I always end up back using Nova. It seems like the market has been flooded with new launchers over the last 6-12 months, too many to give them all a try so I'm trying to figure out which one to use next. On my Galaxy S5, I'm using Buzz Launcher, which is pretty cool because you can download entire homepacks, or screens, that other people have designed and all the widgets, icons, layouts, backgrounds, etc install automatically and since it supports 9 screens, I could n have a new look on my phone everyday. Unfortunately, it doesn't support landscape very well. I might go with Next Launcher next. I kind of miss the 3D effects it has. I always like to show it to friends who have an iPhone.
Any of you tried TSF launcher?

If you have tried all of the launchers and you have not like any of them then maybe it isn't go launcher that is horrible but rather your expectations of a launcher. It sounds like you have like a relatively simple and straightforward launcher with a clean interface. With that in mind I'm not sure why you keep looking.

Really? I've used Nova and Go and prefer Go quite clearly. Better screen contrast, better widgets, better animations, better themes, vertical dock in landscape. Go is constantly updated and improved whereas Nova doesn't seem to have significantly improved in years.
Please list for us the ways that Go Launcher sucks, what you prefer and specifically why it is superior.
Buzz is cool but almost too much for my tastes.

I love TSF Shell on my S5, but for tablets, I prefer more simplicity for some reason. Therefore Apex is my daily launcher since it's customizations seem to meet my needs best. For some reason I've always had trouble with slight lag with Nova, especially with the dock.
Nova Launcher is by far the best launcher to use. So plain but customizable. You can do pretty much what you want with it. Not a fan of go launcher its bulky, and tries to force there cheesy widgets on me. Just my 2 cents.
On my S5, I use Go Launcher (for now) because I like to always change. For this tablet I still don't know what I want to use, I tried go launcher, nova, TSF but I haven't found the one yet. For now, I'm using the stock launcher for lack of a better choice .
