[Q] Horizontal scrolling inside an e-mail - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As I didn't find anything related, I wonder if anyone else have come across this, or if it's just my device.
When I open up an e-mail and scroll to the right, this is what happens:
First scroll seems fine, when I drag from right to left using the entire screen area.
On the second scroll, I put my finger on the right side of the screen, and when I start dragging to the left, the image jumps back 1/3 to the right, before moving to the left again.
This problem came right after I upgraded to 4.0.3 (stock I9100XXLPQ) and never happened on 2.3.6.
Tried both native email client and Enhanced Email from the marked. Same issue.
Seems to be related to e-mail clients only, as scrolling horizontally in the native browser and the gallery works just fine. Also dragging left/right in the Nova launcher is very smooth.
Anyone have an idea about what could be the cause to this problem?

Ok let me put this in a nice way. Samsung completely screwed up the scrolling in ICS. So to answer your question: Samsung is the cause of your problem...
Just flash your gingerbread or a good old cm9.
Have a good day :]

Browser scrolling issues

I noticed that sometimes while I scroll through a webpage diagonally or in a circle-motion, the scrolling gets locked to only being able to go EITHER horizontally OR vertically. To get rid of this I simply have to remove my finger and then start scrolling again. Now, this only happens sometimes, and maybe it's related to the specific browser (I'm using stock), but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this? I've only noticed it in the browser, but thats maybe because that's one of the few apps where you actually scroll both up,down, and sideways.
It's not really a major problem, more like a tiny thorn in the otherwise amazing paradise
Oh, and I'm using .14 because despite searching for an update it says I'm fully updated.
Thanks!

you guys having web browsing woes also?

i find when i open a page, i'll occasionally have 2 things happen....
either i'll start to type somewhere, then the keyboard will suddenly disappear and screw up what i'm doing & have to bring up the keyboard again, or....
i'll load a page & click on a link, then either the page will suddenly shift to the top of the webpage and think i clicking on something completely different, or it'll register that i clicked on a link right next to the one i actually did click on.
i wonder if i'm just trying to do things too quickly rather then just sit there patiently & wait till the page is properly loaded. hmm...
--------------
additionally, note webpage related, but i notice this phone is incredibly sensitive. like i'll be holding the phone and a finger may get close to the edge where the search button is & then think i clicked on search & the search menu will pop up, or sometimes i'll be playing a song & have my fingers too close to the edge where the "next" option is and accidentally switch to a different song. maybe i just need a bigger phone for my hands.
The search thing definitely happens to me when i hold it in landscape and wrap my index finger around the top, the case I got helps since the edge sticks up a bit on the corners.
I have no problems to report with the stock browser, but the screen is ultra sensitive...I feel like if you just hover your finger over it, it thinks you clicked something.

My Desire does the same thing (usually right after I've started the browser). Minor annoyance, but still annoying. I think that it might be a "stock browser" issue, because I used Dolphin HD for a while and I don't remember these problems until I got sick of how much Dolphin sucked in general and switched to the stock browser.
NOT THE FIRST PROBLEM WITH BROWSER OR TYPING.

I use Boat browser and have no issue. To be honest with you the last time I used a stock browser was when the Xoom came out. I don't even know what HTC browser looks like. Lol

[Q] Virtual keyboard problem, anyone else having this issue?

I've noticed that when I'm using the on-screen virtual keyboard in landscape mode, with the phone held either straight up and down or overhead (when lying on my back), pressing some of the keys on the far left side pull down the status bar rather than giving me the letter, character, etc. that I'm pressing. Instead, they cause the status bar to drop down and display status messages.
The most common letter at fault is A. The shift key also does this sometimes.
I have to tilt the phone such that the display is pointing slightly upwards rather than being straight on in order to get the A key to work.
It happens when composing SMS messages, Facebook entries, forum entries via any web browser (stock, Dolphin, Boat, Miren): any time i'm using the soft keyboard in landscape mode with the phone held perpendicular to the floor or tilted so the display is facing slightly downward.
I first noticed this on my Samsung Galaxy Ace when it still had the stock Froyo on it, and I got the same problems with stock Gingerbread, CodeROM, VillainROM and others. Now I own a Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro with its stock Gingerbread and I have the same problem on it, so it seems to be a generic Android issue, but ?? Is anyone else having this issue?

[Q] Switching between home screens

Sorry this is such a noobish question to start off with but I'm having trouble finding a feature I stumbled across a few days ago. Obviously to move between home screens you swipe left and right and pressing the home key from the main screen displays all 5 (swiping up from the bottom of the screen also does this).
The display I saw was a minimized view of each page, each a bit larger than when you're viewing all 5 at once, but only one was viewable on screen at a time and you could swipe left or right to see the others. I've no idea how I got in to that and I can't find any combination of controls to get back to it. I also can't see any purpose to it but it was definitely a deliberate feature and not a bug or glitch.
Can anyone shed any light on that please?
I believe that would be a bug.. there are several homescreen bugs I encounterd with my razr but all tolerable for me..
Case 1:
Slightly tilted diagonally homescreen when swiping left and right..
Case 2:
Minimize view (5 displays) also all screen tilted diagonally...
Maybe we can consider your scenario as a 3rd case..
The screen you see when you tap the home button twice (when already at the middle /primary home screen)?

This sounds interesting, but i'm not sure what you want this for?
Is it like when you see all the home screens, but more zoomed in?
For what its worth, i've been hitting the keys, trying to get to something like this, but no luck..
Yeah I can't fathom any purpose for it... The best I can describe it is like viewing a zoomed out version of each page on your home screen. The same widgets and icons are there, you can flick left and right, 1 page displays at a time but it didn't seem like you could do anything useful from that view.
I thought it may have been a deliberate feature but any combination of buttons or gestures won't reproduce it on my RAZR so I guess it was a bug. It seemed completely deliberate though, it wasn't distorted or glitchy... It was somewhat like on samsungs touchwiz (galaxy s II for example) when you can add in widgets and shortcuts from a zoomed out view of each page except all you had was the zoomed out view and no discernible function.
Thanks for the advice though.
I figured it out.
Sometimes, when you are dragging between the homescreens, and press home at the same time, you will get strange zoomed versions of the home screens, and sometimes it was zoomed out, exactly as you describe.
However, i mostly got a heavily zoomed in version or crooked one.
Just try again and again, and you will see a lot of strange things, and eventually the one you describe

Question Gesture navigation bar inconsistent and unreliable

Hey guys,
I got the Zenfone 9 yesterday and I'm already thinking about returning it. Main pain point at the moment is the Asus launcher, or rather the gesture navigation. Swiping left and right to switch between the applications is not working well for me. I'd say only half of the swipes (left or right) are actually changing the app. I'm pretty sure that I'm not too clumsy, since I don't have any problems on my Pixel 5 with the gesture navigation. Like I said, sometimes it works for a couple of swipes in a row, then it just stops changing apps. Then it works again.
I found 1 thread on the asus forums where a user had similar problem with the button navigation, without any real solution.
I also tried a different launcher (Nova and Neo Launcher), which of course suffers from the third party launcher bug (home screen blank for a second or just not registering clicks for a brief moment), so using another launcher is not an option and the problem with the swiping is present there as well.
Anybody else have this problem? Anything I can change?
PS: I had to do a wipe data via bootloader since the phone was stuck in a bootloop upon first boot, so I'm not offf to a good start here with this phone.
Use a case and tell us. Maybe a problem of palm rejection...
Using a case doesn't make a difference. I also have this problem when the phone is just laying on a table and I'm using just one finger to swipe on the bar.
After searching some more, I'm pretty sure that it is a defect. This issue is so obvious on my phone, I'm pretty sure it is a defective unit.
I guess I'll be returning this phone then......
Never had a single navigation bar misbehavior
