I've looked through various threads trying to find an answer to this one:
which is the thinnest available folio case (one which converts to a stand for multiple viewing angles) for the Transformer Prime?
One of the driving factors in getting this tablet over the competition is its thinness, so the slimmest case would be ideal for a lot of people out there to show off how amazing this tablet really is.
So far it seems the slimmest folio cases are (based on my research, please add more to the list):
Moko Slim Cover Case with Stand
MiniSuit Case
Poetic Case
All 3 of which are very similar!
Lets make a comparison of some REAL technical data on the available folio/folding cases out in the market.
Could I ask those of you which own any of these cases to take a measurement of the total thickness of the tablet+case when in closed position?
I'll update this post with the measurements so we can start comparing them, and hopefully we can get a good guide going for this type of case. I'll also add hyperlinks and feature sets, so please chime in with any differing features - eg. magnetic locking, velcrove locking, clip locking, tablet requires to be unhooked from the bottom case clips to go into the 'standing' mode etc.
If you really want a thin case, a folio case isn't what you're looking for!
I have the BluRex case, and like it. I prefer the way it attaches the Transformer Prime to the case, using corner clips, covered in material to protect the screen, to the way other cases have a sleeve, which, once the Prime is inserted, covers up a large portion of the screen.
That being said, any folio case will add more then double to the thickness of the TP. A video reviewer of one of these cases (perhaps the BluRex, don't remember) used nickles to measure the Transformer Prime (4 nickels in thickness) compared to the TP with case on (10 nickels).
I'm waiting for one of the cases in this thread to be released!

Considering the Transformer Prime has Gorilla Glass, I'm not that worried about the screen breaking (although, there have been some people who's screen has cracked).
I'm somewhat worried about scratches, as I've read of people who's TP has a scratch or two on the screen, so I'm getting a screen protector (also hate how much fingerprints show up on the Prime).
I figure with a screen protector, and a thin, snap on clear plastic case to protect the back spun metal aluminum back of the Prime, I should be set.
Sorry... don't have tools to accurately measure the BluRex case.
Check out the Great Shield series as well. Very slim folio very similar to the minisuit or blurex listed above.

Looks exactly like my BleRex case.
I like it, and it's fine for now, but I really think I want a case that's thinner then the BluRex (Great Shield) case.
I wish the BobJGear cases were available, but I guess I have to wait if I want one of those. The other case I've thought about is the GumDrop case. They provide outstanding protection not only for the metal back, but also for the display, but I'm sure they're on the heavier, thicker side.
The thinnest case you can get is most likely the Asus TranSleeve. Not quite a folio though, but there doesn't seem to be any super thin folio cases like the ones for the HP TouchPad or the iPads. I know there's a thread in this subforum where a member is working on prototyping some thin case designs.
This one has been the lightest and slimmest case for me. It's made from microfiber and therefore doesn't add too much bulk to my Prime. It's great for carrying around the tablet without the dock...

The Sikai case is the thinnest folio-style case available for the Transformer Prime. The material of the case is about 2mm thick on each side of the tablet, and another 2mm for the cover so in total it adds about 6mm of thickness to your tablet. When closed the total tablet + case is about 13mm thick.

I bought one of these and it is pretty nice.
Some of its benefits are the thinness I mentioned, the fact that the cover stays closed magnetically, it has a loop to hold a stylus, and the cover props the Prime up into different positions for viewing/typing.
For me the biggest benefit is that it doesn't look like leather of fake leather, it has a nice dark grey (almost black) matte finish and doesn't feel at all slippery in the hand. It also has nice cutouts for all of the Prime's camera and ports, even the reset hole.

I am the creator of the case in the video. (sorry for the constant spinning of the tablet in the video. It was just a teaser of my prototype.)
Thanks for the words of encouragement ShelW. I've been working on the idea since January and have started a small company to that end. I do hope to also make a "smartcover" like cover/stand for the front of the Prime. However, since Theledman spoke up a few weeks ago about the hardshell part of the case. I figured it best to toss my hat in the ring before things took off.
With things moving so quick on the other thread, I haven't had time to troll the rest of the forum. But I'm glad to see that I've got loyal followers spreading the word for me. I'll keep everyone updated on my progress.

I found this little gem for $3.21 on Amazon. The dimensions looked good, I know CaseCrown makes a solid product and for less than $10 with shipping it was worth a try. In my opinion it's very nice fit, quality build and looks a helluva lot better than your average black messenger case.

Instead of just saying "yah it's nice!" I wanted to post some pics and a little review for those interested. Some of the pics aren't the greatest but they still get the idea across. I'm still waiting for my dock to arrive and once it does I'll update this post accordingly.
My needs: I carry my tablet daily and actually do use it for work. Up until now I had been using a very solid neoprene sleeve from BUILT NY (10" hardback "hoodie") but it wasn't terribly convenient to carry or open and remove the tab on the fly. I needed a case that would protect my tablet, allow me to carry a few smaller items (phone, memory wallet, etc) but still gave me easy access to the tablet with as little bulk as possible.

The Fit: The tablet slips in the case nicely without the corners or sides rubbing against the zipper. Overall It's a comfortable fit, not overly snug like forcing it into an iThing case nor is the tablet flopping around inside while I walk. Like most laptop and netbook cases there are elastic straps on the bottom corners and vinyl straps on the top corners for holding the base and the screen in place. The tablet slips under the elastic ones just fine, hopefully with the dock in place it will be a snug fit. I don't plan on getting a folio but there does seem to be enough room to accommidate one if you just wanted a slim carrying case for your folio'd tablet.
There is an odd little padded "flap" along the seam that must serve some purpose for the device this was designed for. I fold it down over the screen for the extra bit of protection. Folding it under the tab does prop it up by a few degrees but doesn't really improve the view of the screen.
The front pouch accomidates my phone (Evo with an Otterbox Commuter case), memory card wallet, keys and a pack of gum pretty well. The Transformer's charging brick does fit but it distends the vinyl to a point where I think it would leave a permanent imprint over time. I haven't tried it yet but the pouch looks big enough to hold a 7" tablet if you really wanted to geek out.
The Quality: CaseCrown makes a solid bag. I've owned two of their products in the past and both times I was quite happy with the build quality for the price. The stitching isn't frayed or loose (no dangly ends or loose threads) and the material itself doesn't feel cheap or chintzy. The zipper pulls, strap rings and buckles on the shoulder strap are metal so I'm not worried about something wearing out or suddenly snapping.
The memory foam padding is a few mm thick and absorbs daily bumps and dings well. I wouldn't toss it out a window or anything but if I happened to drop it on concrete or marble I wouldn't be concerned with the survival of the contents. The front pouch has a thinner layer of padding inside the flap; it's enough to be there but not enough to add any bulk. Assuming you don't put anything too fragile in the pouch it should be enough.
The strap is just over 1" wide and feels like the same webbing they use to make seatbelts. There is an adjustable shoulder pad on the strap but so far the case is light enough that the pad becomes an annoyance. As I mentioned before the buckles and adjusters are metal and feel very solid. I prefer to have messengers like this land just below my hip bone but with the strap at maximum length it lands directly on my hip (6'2" 160lbs, for a frame of reference).
I think the big downside to this is the vinyl outside. It feels thick and looks good but if you manage to puncture or cut it you'll have a permanent hole in your case (short of some E-6000 and a patch kit) which could lead to problems down the road.
The Overall: If this is the style your looking for you won't find a better bag for the money. It's not extremely rugged but I'm not the sort to take my tablet hiking, into combat or around a construction site. Hopefully it's still useful once my dock arrives.

They do have black variations floating around. I have the exact same bag except in black and without the shoulder strap. I originally got it for my netbook a year ago or so. I realized that when I got my tablet that many of my carrying accessories for my netbook would also fit my tablet. Works wonderfully.

Just received it today. The leather and stitching look nice and seem like they are of good quality. The inner padding is soft and so I doubt it would mess up the screen.
It has a few different stand angles and it is pretty sturdy when angled (doesn't fall out of the grooves).
When the tab is angled, the speaker isn't covered at all so there aren't issues with the speaker being blocked.
I really like the look of it since it doesn't cover the bezel like other cases.
The only things I don't like have to do with the tabs that hold the tablet in place. In the very last picture I post you can see the tabs that hold the bottom right and bottom left corner of the tablet in place. You have to pop these out when using the angular stand. It's a pain to pop out because it is a very tight fit. I'll probably just leave the bottom corners out and not held in place. Also, when you close the front cover, the tab that holds the cover closed isn't that tight of a fit so it easily pops off.
Overall, it's a decent case for $15 shipped.

Nice review! I have the same exact case. As stated my only concern with the case is the bottom tabs where the tablet pops out so you can stand it up. Mine are tight as well and it makes me nervous to keep popping it and out. Other than that it seems like an overall nice case.

I'm sure they have the same problem. These cases look identical except the branding. But for 15$ it's not bad. It's a good case for carrying the tab around. I'm looking into a nice sleeve for when I take the tab + dock around.
Someone on another forum said that they successfully loosed up the bottom two tabs with some pliers.

Took my tablet out today and I'm really shocked at the quality of the spinned/brushed finishes. After examining under a bright light I saw several scratches. I was really careful. The tablet itself came into contact with nothing but my hands and the cushion of the laptop bag. Granted it wasn't microfiber but still. I had a Zune HD for 2 years and it had no problems. The back is flawless despite much harsher treatment I've given it over the past year or so such as tossing it in the same pocket with keys. Only the laser etching and plastic is scratched. The brushed aluminum finish is flawless. The screen is close enough. I hate using cases but it looks like in this case I have to or my heart will hurt =(.
I got mine today too, I like how thin it is but those bottom tabs definitively suck. My tab that holds it closed is actually fairly strong but that may wear out, I like the case but I have seen other cases I liked more, but for the price this one is awesome.
I received this case as well and I think it's a total POS. What's worse is that seller totally ignoring my requests or either a replacement or a return. Stay clear, you have been warned.
I recently received this case and had purchased it because I also own a Poetic Case for my TF101. The thing I don't like about this case vs the one for my TF101 is that there is a crease down the front of the flap that covers the screen which isn't there on my TF101 Poetic Case. This causes the tablet to not stay secure or stand up properly in the grooves if you have it laying on any surface that isn't flat (i.e. my lap, bed, or merely holding it).
The case for my TF101 is more sturdy than this one because it doesn't have the grove down the front flap and I was quite used to being able to holding it in my lap when I commute into work or in my hand without it falling out of the grooves everytime.
I also agree with the other comments about the bottom corners being too stiff but I guess others have been able to fix this with pliers. For $15, this will work for now but I hope to find something better in the near future. I do like the minimalistic look in that it doesn't cover the front screen but having it skip out of the grooves is somewhat annoying.

There doesn't appear to be any cutout, from the picture, so unless these are amazingly thin (which would make them somewhat useless for protection), I don't think they'll work with the dock.
But if they're easy to remove and put back on, they'd be suitable to use when the TP is out of the dock.
Has anyone ordered one of these? Just worry 'bout the quality and fit.
I wonder if they protect enough for a fall, has anyone tried this product?
I would actually like to know how is the fit with the prime, i think with such a big skin the long bezel sides won't be well adjusted to the Prime and might be too loose.

No. Based on the images of the green-colored case on Minisuit's site it's obvious that the TPU is too thick to fit into the dock. This being the case, I would have preferred that they fully cover the 'lock-in' slots on either side of the power connector, so they don't fill up with dust.
It seems like Minisuit had some engineer design it who didn't know what all the holes where for. BUT I'll stop complaining. A silicone case for $7 (shipping included) is great!

It is kind of remarkable that a company would go to the trouble of manufacturing these, but NOT bother to even see what the ports and opening actually do, to intelligently decide whether or not they need a cut-out?!?

These appear to be the exact same skins just in a different color, which means that the center of the back is likely to be a little bit loose, just like with the black cases.
Mine shipped today, estimated arrival of 5/8. I'll keep ya posted.

It definitely feels like the same case, however this new one I got seems to fit a little better at the back, with less sag. I'm not sure if it was just a manufacturing difference or what. This case still has the same flimsy feel around the bezel.
My suggestion is to keep looking for another thin silicone case, if you want to give this one a shot it might be worth the 8 bucks though. I'm leaving this minisuit one one for now vs the other one I got off ebay.
Still in the market for a thin non-leather silicone type case. If anyone has seen the HP branded case for the Touchpad, that would be a near perfect case imo, with a magnetic closing mechanism or something.
Edit: After a day or so of use with the minisuit case, I feel like it is basically as good as this skin type case can get without a major overhaul. The back isn't sagging like the original one from ebay did, however the edges are still could be a little tighter (This is where the redesign would come in,) but overall its pretty good. I'm still interested in a slightly thicker version of this, it still doesn't add much protection.
For those interested, a company, BobJ Gear, is coming out soon with a very nice, silicone case for the Transformer Prime.
He's already made cases for the Toshiba Thrive, which gets rave reviews on Amazon, where they are sold.
I was lucky enough to receive one of his prototypes.
This is a tight fitting case, made from food grade silicone, very thick to provide excellent protection! Access to all ports are available. One of the photos below shows you a comparison between the cases soon to be released by BobJ Gear (shown in purple) and the case discussed earlier in this thread (the green case, on top). You'll see there's a noticeable difference in the thickness of the case, and the amount of silicone used to make the case.
This adds a little bit of weight, but provides great protection for the Transformer Prime! Case will also work for the T300, and he's planning to release a case for the T700 down the road!
These should be available end of this month.

Before I begin - yes, I know I'm being ultra-picky. I'm still looking for the "perfect" case, or as close to it as I can get. I don't have a dock so I'm not distinguishing those which also cover that, and I'm not counting sleeves. BobJ is coming out with a silicone case, that works great! (I have a prototype, and he's told me the changes he's implementing, some of which I had recommended)
He's very conscientious about making quality cases, as is obvious from his Amazon reviews on the BobJ Toshiba Thrive cases he sells.
No, it doesn't cover or protect the screen, but if you feel the gorilla glass is sufficient, or if you don't and get a screen protector, it should be an issue.
All ports and openings will be accessible, and it provides excellent protection to the device.
Should be available in one to two weeks, hopefully.

great reviews from people on this board, but to me the way the stitching sticks out on each side is a deal breaker. and there is no way it wont start to stretch out and eventually the prime will have room to wiggle inside.

its a three position case made of high end materials that seems to deserve its own category. only issue is the price, which matches the high end materials.
its a shame marware hasnt come out with their 3 position case for the Prime. great materials, the bottom corner clips are felt on the inside so tbey dont scratch the screen and its half the price of the Noreve (based on ipad prices).

I have been using the Sikai Microfiber style case for a few months now and it hasn't stretched out at all. The material the case is made from isn't stretchy, it is a firm synthetic material similar to the material used in Apple's iPad Smartcover.
The seams are heat sealed as well as stitched. The edges are slightly flexible and are very comfortable in your hand, much nicer than the Prime's somewhat sharp edges.
If you are looking for a thin and light case to protect your Prime, it is one of the best ones available right now.
Ordered from China - I was thinking about importing more for other devices and selling them on if they were good enough, as there's an absence of silicone cases on the market here.
So, it comes in a rather nice plastic sleeve with Sikai all over it, and a very inspirational slogan: "Design originates from life. Specialization achieves quality." All good so far! I'm more impressed than I expected to be. Except with the slogan. It's not inspirational.

So I open up the sleeve. Immediately notice a really acrid rubber smell, even a few feet from the case. It's horrendous. It smells like there's been a friction fire in a condom factory. I've smelled more pleasant things coming out of my cat. You might expect this to be just the new rubber smell, but a rinse off doesn't get rid of it. No, this smell is here to stay. This certainly isn't the food grade material you get on some others. You'd be lucky to live if you ate anything off this.
Not that these things are designed for having lunch off, of course - but there's a trend today away from caustic rubber smells, BPA and parabens, and this doesn't try to follow. I wouldn't want any of the small things in my house chewing on this.
The smell is more bearable after a while. It's probably destroying my nose hairs. Okay, front view.
It looks okay. So some parts of it do take a big nod toward quality. The feel of the case is nice - the textured cover certainly won't be slipping out of your hands, and it's reasonably thick. The logo imprinted inside the case is a nice touch, too - that little extra bit, even though it's basically just a bit of blown rubber, adds to the overall impression of it.
The holes for peripherals, sensors and the cameras are nice, too - there's no spare silicone hanging off the holes, and overall it's really well made.
The back is just as nice. That textured feel is present all the way around. The Sikai logo is nicely imprinted - the detail is good. Overall, having a good feeling about it.
Okay, let's slide in the TF300T...
It goes in easily. Probably slightly too easily - after literally no struggle at all, the pad is in the case. And here's where the problems start.
Although the case fits snugly around the back, with all the holes matching up to the ports and sensors, around the front it's a different story. The front camera holes and sensors don't fit snugly - they're a few mm from the case holes, so that renders the front camera useless. You end up just seeing the ill-fitting case. All around the front of the case, the poor fit is the same:
But the holes fit nicely around the rest of the case: there isn't a mismatched hole, everything fits in and the volume buttons are taken care of nicely. They work very well.
However, leaving it on for a while, the deficiencies become apparent. That smell is back every time you get close to the tablet. Naturally, you may as well forget about using your front camera, too: it fits so poorly that it's entirely obscured by the case unless you hold it down to the glass. And the case starts to pick up the smallest of dust particles - not only that, but they stick to the case like... well, like the bad smell that the case also came with. They're a nightmare to get rid of. You're not cleaning this one in a hurry. And when you do clean it, it's going to get filthy again really quickly.
Alright, this is the black one - and we all know that black things show the dirt more. But the textured cover, while very impressive and grippy, just serves to attract dirt that gets stuck in the textures.
Not a great case - those fundamental flaws are the smell, the way dirt gets lodged in there and the extremely poor fit. "Specialization achieves quality"? It clearly doesn't. I think this is going in the bin - unless I find out a way to shrink it onto the pad, and then spray it with Febreeze every day.
Check this post out. I bought a silicone case off EBay that fits perfectly. Also, no acrid smell either. I have also listed my other purchases for my tablet in this post. The only thing missing is the dock. I just got it the other day from Office Depot. The manager even matched the price Walmart had online. I paid $119 for the dock.

Interesting. I was looking at a folding case instead. Something that's very similar to the first one - does the tablet fit pretty snugly?
Either that or a revolving one. They're just bulky, though. Kinda defeats the point of a thin and light tablet.

Oh yes, It fits the tab perfectly and I'm actually very impressed with it. Now that I've gone and bought a dock, I won't be using it as much as I would like.
I just bought a Poetic leather case for the dock and keyboard. According to the details and the reviews, it's all real leather and not the PU leather a lot of the cases are made of. I'll have it the first or second week of January and post a review for it.
