Make sure you close all terminal windows and reset the computer. I was having this problem too and simply restarting the computer and phone seemed to solve their inability to talk to each other.
Also, I was having the same problem of it hanging on "waiting for device" before I even got to do the wire trick. Oddly enough, it seemed to be related to the kernel I was using (SebastianFMs OC based off the latest ICS kernel). As soon as I tried using an earlier ICS kernel before I tried again, all the sudden it was detecting my phone correctly and would go on to the wire trick part immediately.

I've tried this already. still nothing:/
It won't even charge. I've tried 3 different computers, usb cords and still nothing, I'm trying to reflash my Boot.img and my recovery.img through the PH98IMG.zip method, but I can't seem to get either of them working. I'm running GB, and all the PH98IMG.zip files i've found are all for ICS.

Real quick, when you say it won't charge. Do you mean if you plug it into a wall it won't charge, even when turned off?

Pull out the battery entirely, connect the phone to the computer, and turn on the phone. You should be able to get to HBOOT via USB power. Does this work?

Think this is the one you want

It's going to be ok, just take a deep breath and calm down. If you're stressed out, take a break and put your feet up. Panic and stress are the only thing that will brick a rezound. Anything else can be fixed, besides of course hardware failure, and that's not your issue.

I'm not really stressed out, I mean i switched back my Droid 4 while the Rezound is down so i have a working phone, I just want to get my rezound up an running again...
What do you think could be causing this if it's not hardware failure?

Honestly I'm concerned that your phone doesn't see power or respond to USB at all anymore. Is it possible that you've broken the little tab inside the port on your phone, or is it possible that some piece of debris is shorting out the contacts in there?
you say its still possible to get to HBOOT, which means if you can remove your SDCARD and put a PH98IMG.zip file on it with the correct boot.img you can get it booting again - but I'm concerned that the USB port is damaged and therefore the phone may be useless once the battery is depleted.

Technically you can, it's just a huge pain in the ass, I've done it before. You have to pull the battery out at like a 45 degree angle but make sure there's enough pressure on it so it still makes contact, then slide out the sdcard with your fingernail and get the sdcard. Place the battery back in, get a card reader and put it on there, then reverse the process.

I just looked at usb port, and it's perfect, i blew some compressed air so it's clean.
And yeah i can get into hboot, but im having a problem flashing a PH98IMG.zip, it keeps saying "Parsing" when it finds the file, and it doesn't flash the boot.img
And I'm not worried about the battery depleting, I have a Thunder Bolt to charge the battery. But the fact that my pc won't detect my phone is worrying me.

Yeah it sounds like something is definitely wrong with the phone... has me wondering if the USB issue and the hanging on "parsing" are related by a common malfunction or failure of the device.
Either that, or the PH98IMG.zip file you have on there is bad? I suppose that is entirely possible too... Or if somehow the installed kernel became corrupt, I could see the phone behaving the way it is.
I would try re-downloading another kernel as a PH98IMG.zip file, putting it on the SDCARD and trying all over again with a completely new download. Don't use the one you've been using, just to eliminate a bad PH98IMG.zip as the possible culprit.

If it has a broken usb/charging port, hell yes I'd definitely try for an exchange first on the basis that a critical part failed. If they give you grief over the damaged screen then definitely do an insurance claim on it, assuming you got insurance on it..

[Q] New Evo 3D bricked after 6 hours? Seriously?

OK so I did the HTCDev unlock perfectly fine, then flashed the Leedroid rom (using cwm) and the kernel (using fastboot), it loaded up and was working great until I made a phone call! Within about 2 minutes of the call it cut out completely (had about 70-75% battery), and I mean it literally just completely shut off and now it won't turn back on. I have done battery pulls, tried a different battery, plugging into charger (but light doesn't even come on!). What is going on?
Sounds like leedroid is your problem

Weird... Have u tried vol down+power?
What you could try, take the SD card out and use either another phone or sd adaptor and place on it the PG86IMG.zip file (you can find this in one of the root threads)..........try the volume-down, power button method to see if it boots into recovery.........if this works, then it will read the .zip file.
---------- Post added at 08:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:33 AM ----------
of course, after placing the .zip file on the card, put back into your phone before trying to boot into recovery.

Yes I tried placing the file on the memory card, no dice. And no I don't get a red light when plugging into charger. It's as if the ROM or whatever the issue is, has completely destroyed it.

Sounds like a hardware issue. How long did you have it before unlocking it? Did you even make sure that the phone ran a few days before screwing around with installing a ROM and Kernel?
Would you buy a new car and not break it in before replacing the factory parts with aftermarket parts?

Used it for about an hour as stock, but that is irrelevant. I wasn't "screwing around" either, I have flashed many phones in my time and always follow the guides provided to completion. The car analogy isn't anything like this, rooting or installing a ROM wouldn't cause a hardware issue any different to a stock ROM would.

That is halfway correct. But you said in your original post that you installed a kernel. The kernel is what runs the hardware. If the kernel is set to run the phone out of spec, this could cause hardware issues.
Did you change the max CPU? What about undervolting?

If you installed the ROM and Kernel, you were running it when you made the phone call and the phone went dead. Leeroids kernel, even though he is an excellent developer and I am not saying anything bad about him or his work, changes cpu and undervolting settings which could cause issues with the phone. I am not saying that that is what caused your issue, but it could have been your phone not playing nice with the kernel.
only other thing I would try is leave the battery out for an hour and try again...........but you've probably been down that road.
Yep... sounds to me like a hardware failure. Shiat! :-/

That is very true, I was just hoping that the kernel "boot up" so to speak could be avoided by opening fastboot and flashing a stock rom back. But as you stated perhaps the undervolting has messed something up. Thank you very much for your insight and help.

Define bricked for us. "Bricked" generally means that you can't get it to turn on at all. If you are getting bootloops or whatever, you still have hope!
Can you get to the boot loader? If so, have no fear. The path to redemption is probably going to be simple.

Usb/charging port fried after failed S-off attempt

Just throwing it out there. As the title states. I attempted the S-off, failed a couple of times, more than likely due to my timing on the wire trick. Then my computer was unable to find device anymore. Long story short, I got my rom to reboot, however the phone will not connect to computer or charge. Tried Pc, Mac, different usb cords. Wiped, reinstalled rom, pulled battery, etc..
This is a risk that I took, and I take full responsibility for that. But just beware that this could affect your hardware and not just your software too, which makes sense because you are messing with the hardware. I am def in the minority here, but I thought I would share. But something to think about. The phone now still functions but I have to take out the battery to charge, and I can't push any files to the phone.
ive never heard of anyone's usb port getting fried with the s-off method but i guess it's possible since your basically grounding your device out.
I know it won't help you with fastboot, but you can still do ADB over wireless. Look for instructions on how to enable it via terminal, or just go the the store and find a widget or app to enable it. At least with functional ADB, you can still push files to your phone using wifi tether or if they are on the same wireless network.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on my original Rezound, while I was doing all sorts of fastboot stuff to completely wipe it and prepare it to be shipped back to Verizon. In the end, it shipped back to them in a state where it would ONLY boot to hboot, because it had no /boot or /system or /data or /recovery partitions or anything. I don't really know what happened, but before I could run the RUU to complete the job, the USB connection just stopped working and it wouldn't charge. Exactly the same situation, except it was on its way back to Verizon anyway with a dead screen so I didn't bother to investigate any further.

Or else inadvertantly touched the wrong terminals ? Just trying to figure out how it could happen.
lack of usb function was a product of a corrupted misc image on the HTC Desire. It is possible the same thing happened here so that is being tested. It is worth looking into as a last resort before sending it back.
Yes I was using an insulated wire. I placed the wire exactly where the pictures show. I'm really not sure what happened. But at least I have a backup phone.

Another nice option for transferring files is SSHDroidPro used with something like WinSCP.
I know you tried wiping your rom, but did you try an RUU? On the off chance it is a corrupted partition that might be able to fix it. Worth a try anyway.

My ReZound and it's constant problems

This phone has gotten me wanting to quit technology altogether. I have had so many problems with mine, I can't even explain how irritated I am and how good an iPhone sounds to me. Phone rejects all usb connections, can't stay on for more than half an hour (If I can get it to boot fully) I don't even know what to do anymore. I know I could probably get it RUU'd, only thing is that I can't lock its bootloader anymore. And also broke my root. Superuser and su are still there, but superuser can't gain root access, neither can anything else. Tried factory resetting and reflashing my rom, but that didn't work for more than 10 minutes. Honestly if I could, I would torch this phone and leave it in a ditch, unless someone has a way for me to RUU without needing to lock the bootloader, because I'm pretty sure that's the only way I can do it.
I'm on CleanRom 4.[one version before the newest]

Wow...I've had no real problems with mine at all, except for some weirdness with recovery and Boot Manager yesterday. But I finally managed to clear those up. This has been a great phone for me. I don't intend to assume user error, but it's always a possibility...but don't give up and go to the iCrap...Android is still WAY better. Hopefully someone in the community can get ya straightened out.

Warranty it. But that sounds like a cluster**** of user error.

The only reason why there's any problems is because none of my cables connect to my phone anymore. My stock one broke and so now I'm using the standard usb cables that every other phone has. usb connection has never worked since the switch. Also my phone was working fine till it decided to randomly reboot into death.

what he said. were these problems there when it was stock unrooted? doubt it.

I don't blame you for blaming me, but the truth is I really don't think this is my fault. I have almost bricked my phone due to a batched RUU Flash, but it still worked fine after I got it out of the loop. And this all started happening recently. I dunno what to think.

...are you using a data cable? Not all micro-USB cables work you know.

Is there a difference? I've tried at least 6 different cables, brand-new out of the box to older used for other phone. I know I can connect older phones with the same cable, so I'm pretty sure it's a data cable.

the cable for the og droid should be a data usb cable, so try taht one. i know that we sell cables that actually don't work for sending data in my store, but come with a travel charger.
idk man, it sounds like you may have f'ed it up somehow. why can't you unlock it again? try RUU'ing the newest leak maybe?

I know I had a feeling it was totally F'ed but I didn't want to quit. I use every cable and I thought it might be my SD card maybe? just maybe? and don't I need to be locked to run RUU's?

To run the exe, yes. But if you S-Off, it won't matter. It may be worth it.
FWIW, I know the 4G issue that occurs after flashing a radio is resolved by running the RUU then doing an hboot factory reset...maybe give that a shot?

Can't S-OFF if I can't connect my phone to my computer.
The vzw corporate just agreed with me that the battery life is ****ty and sent me a gnex which ill be happy with since the battery is better and it has miui roms which I like
what i would reccomend doing is flashing the latest ruu.
to do this take out your microSD and put it in a sd card adapter and put the ruu onto the sd card and then run it, and then do an hboot factory reset

What was the process you went through to get this done?
I would definitly say you should warranty replace it. Dont know why you cant use a data cable to connect to pc, I use em all the time, sounds like a hardware issue with that. Unless you can data connect while in Recovery or in Hboot I would say just replace with warranty.
Just tell them about the heat issue....and bad battery life...they sent me another rezound and I complained again and now they sent me the nexus....I know im going to be happy with that phone...I can just smell it

no, the specs aren't ****tier. however, the actual phone itself is ****tier. the pentile amoled screen with oversaturated colors, the terrible radio that gives awful 4g reception and awful 4g speeds when compared to a rezound. you act like we don't have the developers...really? have you ever been to the development subsection? either way, go enjoy your nexus. i'll continue to enjoy my customized rezound, thanks to our many developers.

[Q] Touch works but screen doesnt...

I'm in a bit of a bind. Tried searching for people with similar issues on the EVO LTE but couldn't fine one. It seems that my screen doesnt work anymore, but the touches still work; I.E. i can unlock the phone by muscle memory alone even though the screen remains black. I tested this as soon as i got home from work by plugging it into my monitor via MHL. MHL seems to work okay and it displays everything on the monitor but when i try to go to recovery to wipe everything, the phone doesn't seem to display anything via MHL (assuming because no drivers or whatnot are loaded in recovery)
This all began when my stereo bluetooth headset (LG HBS700) was low on battery and I turned it off. I soon went to check the battery level of my phone only to find out the screen wasn't turning on. Normally I give things the benefit of the doubt, so i assume it's just something that can be wiped away, so to speak. I hope so at least. Can anyone give me any insight as to if this is fixable or not?
Thanks in advance
U need to take it back and get a new one man. I'm thinking maybe a spike in voltage shorted the display out. Are u wanting to keep it for s-off possibilities?
U could use adb tools to flash back or run an RUU if S-ON. But I really don't think it will fix anything. I'm not a pro-technical apple genius or anything, thank god, but I'm fairly certain u have full blown hardware failure.

Thanks, Yeah i think i'll do the RUU thing. didn't think something like a voltage issue could come up. I keep my devices cradled like a baby and have never had one go bad on me hardware-wise.
Thanks again
So what happened? U run RUU?
