T-mobile I give up - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Anybody else tired of bad tmo data outside of Wi-Fi? Whatever the speed test says, no ics modem on ics rom gives me usable data no matter how much i think this time i have done it. The only way i get data that lets me use apps and browse is with gb rc4a and blaze modem. Fck tmo and fck att for blocking the 1700 radio. sòooooooooooooooo frustrated. Tried every combo possible rom radio including skyrocket roms with the virus. I think i will get straight talk. Anybody else share my sediments?

at&t is not blocking the 1700 radio frequency, they don't use it, Tmobile wanted to use a different frequency than everybody else , go figure that one out!
I love my note and get awesome speed in at&t, except with the seraphim rom, not sure why.

And yet AT&T have millions of clients.
Anywho, GB is giving me more stable data connections. I'm waiting on a ICS radio that is stable enough before using ICS as my daily driver.

Why don't you just flash the UCLA modem? On every 4.0.3 ROM I've been on I'd always flash it because the ICS one is terrible for me.

I would love to know why that is too. After the iPhone made its way to Verizon, I thought at&t would have been in a really tough spot.

I stick with att because I have multiple phones and love the ease of switching between them with just a Sim card (GSM) . Also I like having the option of using unlocked international phones that ATT does not offer.
att sucks, but so does verizon

AT&T is great when you're in an area that doesn't offer LTE. Their HSPA+ puts Verizons 3G to shame. Only reason I don't have T-Mobile is because I didn't get great reception at home. Swapping phones at will is nice as well.

I am using my note on tmobile and I'm getting great speeds on it. Throughout he day I usually get 6-10mbs download speeds. Sometimes I peak at 12mbs. The upload isn't great. I usually got 1-3mbs on my t989 but only around 100-500kb on the note. No biggie. Still fast for me. Only problem is it hangs occasionally and I have to toggle it on and off to get it working. I'm looking for a workaround for that.

I'm just about ready to give up myself tossing this bad boy up on eBay

I'm going to wait it out myself. I ended up ordering a straightalk att sim and contacted T-Mobile for a seasonal hold on my account. If the T-Mobile note is true or if someone finds a fix, ill just have to wait till that or gs3.

I wonder if they're using a new modem for 1700 band or if its just a new radio and if that will help the early note adapters.

T-Mobile GS2 on At&t I get 10+ mbps.

I unlocked the T-Mobile GS2 and using it on At&t and getting very good speeds like 6-10 mbps.
Can people post their speed on At&t with At&t GS2. Because with Original GS2 I am getting 1-1.2mbps. I'm in New York, Queens.

poor speed here..
2-6 Mbps Miami, FL
About 2-5 in Socal , have never seen it go past my Captivate (HSDPA) yet.
This would probably be a lot more exciting to people on the TSGS2 forum. I can't imagine anyone on AT&T buying a T-Mobile phone just to gain access to AWS which doesn't even exist in Europe or Asia. Besides, the Skyrocket is the same phone but LTE and will pull 15-18MB down so if AT&T'rs wanted a bigger screen they'd get that. It's good that it works on AT&T for you T-Mobile'rs so it's not a door stop after the merger.
I don't have screen shot sorry. But LA, California I have a bug that does not let me test. -__- i will edit later when it works
No the thing is on the original gs2 I get 1- 1.2 mbps and on T-Mobile gs2 I get 6-10 mbps on At&t. That's why I wanted to know what kind of speeds At&t gs2 owners are getting that's all. I'm not suggesting anyone to go get the T mobile version.

It's not. The TSGS2 can get a theoretical 42MB down on T-Mobile using AWS so it's definately going to be faster there. Part of the reason isn't just the phone, T-Mobile's using dual-cell HSPA (link below). On AT&T's bands, it's 21MB down just like the ISGS2 and ASGS2 and AT&T's network's not dual-cell. If he's getting different results it's either because of APN settings being off, incorrect account provisioning, or AT&T's network just being randomly flaky. If OP was getting 1MB down with an ISGS2 something was horribly wrong. I get 3-4MB down in 3G cities and have gotten 10MB down on occasion when traveling in TX but routinely get 6-8MB down in fake-4G cities.

After a good hour on the phone with At&t and the rep "provisioning" my plan for "4G" nothing worked. Went to the at&t store and got a new Sim Card and that allowed me to connect to the "phone" apn.

Taking note back... What a shame...

I finally got the note... The phone is awesome... This is the phone of all phones.... The only thing i dislike is the data service AT&T offers my area... The service kills every thing about this phone is capable of doing.... AT&T doesn't have lte here... But they have the 4g... Which is not consistent enough to even call it 4g.... It picks up 4g and then switches to regular 3g... I won't pay AT&T an extra 20 bucks a month for this service... After half a day with this service, the note will be returned to AT&T and hope Verizon gets it very soon...

Don't take it back. Wait until after your first month and then go to the AT&T store and tell them you want to buy your contract out ($324). Now unlock your Note and use it on any carrier! This is what I am doing. Got my Note for half price ($149) and next month am buying out my contract and using the note on Straight Talk!
$324 + $149 = $473
Have fun with Verizon's 1.5Mbps "3G" network versus AT&T's 7-14Mbps FauxG network.
My company-use Vivid regularly sees 5-7Mbps in my town. My buddy's work Droid RAZR MAXX? 1.3-1.7Mbps.
Have fun with Straight Talk, too. 3.2Mbps max download and pray to all the Gods in the universe that you never have an issue that requires you to call in to customer care.

Sorry to hear. It is a great phone but it would suck if the network is not cutting it where you live. A poor network would take away a lot of the GNote's potential in my view. Hope you get it on another network in the future.

Hey the Note is awesome. Wireless networks fast or slow are amazing, considering what you can do on them. Remember the Zach Morris bricks we use to carry? Besides at&t has 40 or so million smartphone users and over 100 million total data users. It's amazing that the network is as reliable as it is. Is 4G a lost cause ?

What I mean is having our photon unlocked with working 4g? I haven't see any updates ,development, or even a tiny bit of faith just wondering is someone still looking into it ? much appreciated ..
Why is exactly does unlocking the boot loader disable 4g? Would there be any way to to trick the photon into thinking the boot loader is still locked.

Well my cousin, that works at Sprint, basically told me WiMax is just useless at this point. He told me specifically what they are going to do with the towers, but I don't remember. If anyone needs me to I can ask him.

Why would ICS make it easier? Don't think it will.

I am not hodling my breath of having Sprint pushing a working ICS 4G working ROM for us to hack rap tweak. So that we Geeks, can having CM9 work on 4G. EOL means they'll stop selling it.
Doesn't mean we won't get ICS. Moto would not have said Q3 unless Sprint agreed.

I guess technically it doesn't matter since sprint will only support wimax till the end of 2012.
It says wiimax devices sold through 2012 not that there will be no more wiimax after 2012?

Yes but thats what I read in the article. I'll ask my cousin to confirm if this is true or not.

Oh haha I understand then, sprintd a tricky one though! Always changing haha.
And there is hope for 4G! Someone under the name scott (forgot the rest) is very close to fixing 4G on unlocked bootloaders! He has narrowed it down to the specific files needed/causing the problem and seems hes just a few days/weeks away.

His thread over it is in the general section named "custom spf 154_5 bootloader" little misleading but go read it!!

I could have sworn I read WiMax is supported until 2015
Either way - it was a stillborn technology and truly blows.

My real question is about the towers. Are they going to bother putting LTE towers in the same markets at Wimax towers. or Will they hit up other places first before changing over?

I was actually talking to a sprint tech on the phone and he said that they are going to start upgrading all of their towers later this year. And instead of having a tower for 4g, a tower for 3g and a tower for boost mobile, they are switching to a tower that broadcast them all from one tower, and has a better signal.

It is they are going to switch over to lte... so ur photon will never have 4G anyways

T-Mobile Note

http://www.phonedog.com/2012/04/24/...-itself-off-to-the-camera-android-4-0-in-tow/
I am debating returning my note and getting a tmobile one. I just wanted some advice first. Do you think the modem from the tmo version would help us i717 users on tmobile?
That's what im wondering. Did samsung just patch the radio or did they just add a new modem to support the band. I have no idea how these things work, but im hoping its a radio fix that we can just steal.
this will equal cross compatible roms most likely... like the skyrocket and tmobile galaxy sII

Yeah probably. I'm wondering about the modem though
The best thing about this is that maybe they will release the source with the phone so we can have some 4.0 modded goodness.

Question/suggestion for you T-Mobile users. Friend of mine used the radio modems from our note on his skyrocket and said it improved his data speeds. So I suggest* that possibly you guys can take the modems from T-Mobile galaxy s II and try them on the note.
* just a suggestion/idea not sure if anyone tried this yet.

Since tmo doesn't have lte does that mean itll use the exynos processor the international one has?

I don't have any proof, but I bet it will use the same S3 processor as the AT&T version.

Excellent! Now to sell my AT&T Note on CL, pay the early termination fee and use the surplus to buy the T-mobile version of the Note
Sgs3
SG3 would be cool CharlieB but i, like most, bought the Note for the 5.3 screen and S-pen. The SG3 wont change that. Although im sure the specs will be awesome.

I wish... the Exynos seems much better. The S3... well I already have that within my Sensation...

Agreed... I also hate the button config of the AT&T config

Sadly Scyke, i think you're right.
They're probably just keeping the AT&T version and just adding the T-Mobile logo rather than the AT&T one...

Pretty much. And removing the lte
If I was t-mobile, I would use a portion of that 4 billion from the failed merger and bribe Samsung to cram in a Tegra 3 or S4 in the T-mobile version of the Note

The Note 2 or the Note S will have a similar if not one of those processors.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
