who has tested out and successfully used their Wifi Direct Feature on Prime? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

just like the title states. you know the .21 update made this feature available to us. yet, many reported at first not being able to get it to work. I haven't seen anyone mention this subject since then. I can't get it to work or might not be activating it properly.
if someone got it working, what exactly did you do? do both devices need to have Wifi Direct or only one device(official description from wifi direct says only one device is needed but just checking)? this feature can be very useful for file transferring. etc.. So if no one has not gotten this working, then this issue needs to be brought up to Asus(which I have already mentioned to Gary).

I haven't been able to figure it out either. I turn it on in the TFP settings, then try to connect to my Nexus but when I turn it on in the Nexus settings, it then turns off on the TFP. Vice versa when I go to turn it back on in the Nexus settings the TFP turns off. Half baked inplementation or something..

the most i have had happen is that a buddies nexus phone recognized that my tab was avaliable for connection, but from what i understand, there is a software (developer not manufacturer) issue that hasn't been addressed yet to manage that ad-hoc connection.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA

it might be safe to say no one here has really gotten it to work or had enough interest in it to try. thing is Gary told me his works just fine. He said they were trying to recreate the issue but I'm not sure if they were able to or not. I also feel like it was never fully implemented or something is missing in the software. According to the official advertising for it, its supposed to be seamless and easy to activate and use with other devices. i cant get it to work at all really. Based on what I've seen that this technology/feature is capable of, this is something i really want to work. It could make things alot easier and more efficient.

WiFi Direct really only works between two WiFi Direct devices.. it's kind of like Bluetooth but uses an adhoc like connection.
But now that you mention it - I just realised my Nexus also does WiFi Direct... sooo...
Give me a few minutes and I'll see if I can make this do anything useful.
BRB...
Short version - they added the WiFi Direct API, but no actual support for it - unlike in Bada which has a client built into the OS.
In theory, if someone writes an app that supports WiFi Direct connections for file sharing and printing, it will do something useful.. right now.. not so much.
There is, however a Demo WiFiDi app set...

Wifi Direct
I have a Galaxy Tab 7.7 and a Galaxy Note. Wifi direct is available on these devices, and it works brilliantly - I can move a 800mb short film between the devices in about 60 seconds, mp3 files are near instantaneous. I have tried both with the Prime, but the devices fail to handover the connection to completness, eventhough the prime is recognised. On the samsung devices, you get a confirmation of connection, or in file managers and app you get an additional 'send to' option of 'wifi', then you select the target device, accept on the receiving unit and off it goes. what is needed is for Asus to write the pairing part of the handover. Question though is can a prime 'see' a prime. I dont have two so cannot check!

My SGS2 has wifi direct I can connect it with my prime for a short period and then the prime turns off wifi direct. It doesnt stay connected long enough for me to test anything.

Nope. As far as I can tell, there's nothing in the way of status or connection management or reporting on the Prime for WiFi Direct. The few videos I've seen of it working are on Samsung devices - so it looks like Samsung went the extra mile to include it in the system and make it useful.

I was in the Transformer forum and they just received an update a day or 2 ago. Here I'd the change log someone posted for the TF101:
9.2.1.21 Change log:
1. Improved system stability
2. Updated Email App
3. Updated App Backup App
4. Updated MyLibrary App
5. Added WiFi Direct Support
6. Added unzipping functionality to File Manager
7. Added ability to revert to last working state in the browser
I'm wondering if Asus added what we need to get WiFi Direct working and it will come to us in our next update. I have to wait for the updated ROM for my Transformer so I can't check it for myself.

i had to return my first one due to pic quality. neither that one or new one has functioning wifi direct. i emailed asus, and they said sounds like faulty wifi hardware and i should rma it back. if it truly is faulty, i have best buy replacement protection. tablets were different SN lines, so im wondering what i should do. it seems nobody can get theirs working.

I tried wifi direct as well with ICS 4.0.4 on E4GT which i believe, isn't Samsung's "psuedo" wifi direct seen previously in the 2.4+ builds.
The E4GT can see the prime when it scans. When it tries to connect, the Prime user should be notified, asked to accept the connection, and then both devices "handshake" and stay connected.
When I try to connect, the E4GT just states it's waiting for Prime to connect. No connect here for me in previous testing (although I'm on .15 now so this is irrevelant). Just speaking from previous experience. Prime needs some sort of notification. Seems like libraries are on prime just no connection handshake or connection implementation.
Btw, Prime never sees my E4GT, just vice versa.
Ask Gary what device he had success with? I'd love someone to chime in who has 2 primes....phree perhaps? Erusman?

When I was trying the Wifi direct transfer on the TF300, I can't found the transfer icon of wifi direct, the choose icon only ' blue tooth, gmail, webstorage...' that without wifi direct.
I really don't know how to send the file from TF300 to S2 without the wifi direct icon.
conversely, S2 send the file to TF300, the status was holding in transfer, after they recognized.
I sent an email asking the wifi problem to Asus, but they replied that the problem transfer to other department already, and give me notice when future information'. The email over 10 days, I don't believe they have future information in shortly.
I also used an USB to linking both S2 and TF300, but TF300 seems can't recognize the S2, not any device was found.
Now, I only through the PC to make them communication which is TF300, S2 and PC linking together, then using the PC control file transfer. But it is not convenience.

I have a Prime (with most recent .28 update), and my son a TF300 - and they "see" each other. Both devices go through the connection process of "inviting" and "accepting", but as has been stated - there is no option to send files via wifi even though they are supposedly connected.

ASUS only added the WiFi Direct baseline in the ICS .21. It did not had any settings to be made such 'connect to' OR send an invite to the surrounding WiFi devices also waiting for an Ad-Hoc connection. My Laptop keeps on waiting for other devices to connect. And why shouldn't it? There's nothing one can do on TFP then to simply Turn ON and OFF WiFi direct.
Somebody needs to make a WiFi Ad-Hoc Manager UI or APP from where different devices can see each other and send-receive direct connection requests.
Big leap to ICS .28 with just 'inviting' and 'accepting' and not able to send files. ASUS could have updated their ROM for full functionality. They are playing version by version !
Unfortunately, there is no market app available for the same to date.

Application for Bluetooth PAN tethering -- now for charity

The ad revenue from this app has passed the $25 mark -- what it cost me to register with Google to put the app in the market. As promised, any revenue the app earns from that point forward will be added to my annual donation to the Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, Massachusetts -- a no-kill shelter.
Thanks from me and thanks from the kittens and puppies.
----------
I've written a widget to establish a PAN connection between the Nook a phone. It grabs the first networking-capable device it finds in the list of pairings. A couple of things to note:
There is an application. All it will do is show you what device, if any, it can connect to. It has to turn on Bluetooth to get the list, but it will politely ask you before doing so.
The widget will turn on Bluetooth, but it isn't so polite. For the life of me, I can't find a code snippet nor can I think of one that will start the polite activity (or any activity) from a widget that doesn't directly involve a button press. If anyone has such a snippet, I'd love to see it. I know its possible because the Bluetooth GPS widget does it. Fixed!
The widget, of course, requires root.
I do send a Toast when the process is complete, but toast from my widget isn't reliable. I need to figure that out, too... advice is welcome. Fixed!
Still to do: Monitor the connection and reflect the status in the widget. Fixed!
If nothing else, it's prettier than a GSCript script. Once it's stable and complete, I'll stick it in the marketplace.
Note... You must be running CM7 and you must have already paired the phone before you can use this....
Apr-13: New version with better Bluetooth device state management.
Apr-17: Added connection monitoring, polite Bluetooth enabling
Note: The pop-up to grant superuser access is asynchronous, so there may be a timing window on first use where state is not correctly monitored. I'll try to work that out, but in the meantime, all subsequent uses should work.
The icon will display a yellow LED during the connection process and a green one once the connection is going.
If a connection could not be established, the LED may go briefly green, then turn off. The challenge is that the only way I can monitor the connection is with "pand -l" or "ifconfig bnep0" and if the connection is gone, the attempt to read the result from those commands simply hangs. So, I start a thread and then periodically run "pand -l". A different thread monitors the first and, if it looks stuck, I kill the process and turn off the LED. But, until I can be sure it's really stuck and not just taking time to answer, the LED will be green. Fixed!
Obviously, once the connection is broken, the LED will go off.
Since I have the LED, I've taken out most of the toast, though some still comes from the OS.
Apr-19 Fixed the widget graphics so the LED turns off instead of disappearing. Fixed the green-before-failed connection status issue. Added a proper toggle -- if the connection is off, tapping the widget turns it on and if the connection is on, tapping the widget turns it off.
Apr-20 The official version is now in the Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=earlmagnus.nctether
May-27 Fixed a null pointer issue discovered by Ophbalance
As always, feedback is welcome.
Could you accomplish the blue tooth polite toggle with a conditional method?
Check blue tooth status,
if off, direct user to settings-> blue tooth
I know thats not as cool as a nice button press
Downloadin ur app now!
One other oddness...
... Android doesn't seem to think the tethered connection is worthy of note. If you start the browser after being connected, you'll be told you have no connection. Pages will load perfectly well, anyway.

I'm pretty sure it's because Android does not natively have bluetooth DUN capabilities, at least input-wise; it's based on functions within custom kernels, and therefore the system does not recognize it as a connection capable of fueling GApps.
But I could be completely wrong / that information could be outdated; this is from my research into Bluetooth DUN for my Nook when I first got it a while ago, and I'm not much of a developer. I'd more call myself someone who likes dabbling with code, and watching everything break.
But back to this post's point: thank you so much, you are a god. I've been looking for an easier way to do this for so damn long.
Kudos, sir. Kudos.
This is very promising! Now, what is the feasibility of adding Bluetooth DUN support? A number of phones out there (to include Blackberries) do not support PAN. I've done a lot of googling and have come across one resource, which may or may not be useful: https://github.com/wertarbyte/android_vendor_cyanogen/blob/omni-tether/prebuilt/common/bin/tether
The "pand" binary is included with the CM7 ROM, but "dund" is not. How much effort would be involved in adding this functionality?
Thanks in advance and appreciate any guidance..
exactly what i was looking for.
Thanks a lot for this. Will be installing and tethering to my iphone via mywii
I will report back with results.

DUN is in a whole different ballpark. I don't know what's involved.
Thanks, folks, for trying it out. I have an idea for monitoring connection status, but other than some POC work, I probably won't get to it before the weekend.
It doesn't work for me, it says tethering then tethered and then starts tethring again and this goes on quite sm time and then the internet doesn't work, i really needed this:-(
am running pherimod 5.3 and trying to tether with sony erricsion's k530i which has bluetooth networking.

Does the application show the the phone and its BT address?
Is there a particular app you have to start on the phone before you begin tethering and, if so, does it show status if a link is established?
EDIT: Also... have you used the phone for tethering before with a laptop? Do you know tethering should work?
For the life of me, I can't think of anything that would make it loop through connection attempts other than mashing the widget repeatedly.

Yes phone and address are both shown, i start tethring by taping the widget and as for the status i see nothng xcpt bluetooth icon, which shows that both the devices are connected. But am trying this with a gprs connection. i havent tried 3g yet, will that be any different?
Yes the phone has bluetooth tethring, the pc suite has a module for bluetooth internet.
I've attached a new version in the OP. Have a try.
I've improved managing the Bluetooth device. Final state of the connection still isn't reported... that will have to wait.
I would remove the widget and uninstall the old app before installing the new version.
Hm... pand --nodetach doesn't do what I hoped it would in a --connect context... So much for that idea.
I'm trying to use this app to tether my nook to my moto Droid. When I tap the widget it says there's no paired PAN device. I've tethered these two before using the pand command, so I know it's possible. Am I doing something wrong? The droid and nook are "paired but not connected", but every Bluetooth device has said that.

They were probably paired while the droid wasn't advertising the profile. I rely on the list of paired devices knowing which is the network provider.
Try this:
- Remove the Droid from the list of paired devices on the Nook
- Enable visibility on the Droid
- Get the Droid ready for a PAN connection
- Then, from the Nook, initiate pairing
That should ensure the Nook sees the Droid can provide a network connection.
Now I just need my phone to just advertise the bluetooth network without having to run wifi tether.

Nothing WiFi related will help you.
My WinMo 6.5 phone just shows a list of nearly a dozen profiles it supports, PAN being one of them. My suggesting about getting the phone ready for PAN before pairing came from my experience setting up my Ubuntu system as a tethering client. Both that and the Nook recognized the PAN profile when I did that.
The only app I could find that supports bluetooth tethering and is reliable on my HTC Hero is wifi tether set up in bluetooth mode. I have been using it for over a year with my netbook.
What would make the bluetooth tethering the cat's ass would be to not to have to start anything on the phone, for the connection to always be available so i could just wip out the nook and be able to use the data connection.

[Q] Lockups when using Bluetooth tethering on ICS Prime

I haven't had much problems using WIFI/BT concurrently, but then again I haven't use those two simultaneous very often so I can't really comment. But I do get lockups/sleep of death which requires holding the power button to initiate a reboot when I Bluetooth tether the Prime to my Sensation. I have comb through much of the Prime forums (especially the wifi/bt fallout thread) and did several searches but haven't found any posts describing a similar problem (may have just used the wrong keywords, if so please direct me to the right one thanks).
This is the only major problem I've experienced since I first received my Prime and has not changed with any update (.11, .11.1, .13). I don't not have random reboots or WIFI/BT fallout as far as I know and WIFI and GPS are weak but working (Wifi improved after .13). No diminished battery life after .13 update. BC batch from hhgregg.
So I was just curious if anyone has experienced a similar problem or is this solely unique to me? Or could this be just another symptoms of the WIFI/BT fallout?
How to reproduce:
1. Settings > Tethering & portable hotspot > Bluetooth tethering checked on phone
2. Phone and Prime paired
3. Go on Prime and manually connect to phone (Tethering... should appear on phone status bar and Tethering.... should appear on Prime after couple of minutes
4. Wait about 45 minutes
- wifi, autosync, etc are all off on prime on my latest test
- my wifi on the phone are off as well with only my mobile net on
- but these settings doesn't matter b/c it happened before with different setting (just wanted to eliminate as many variables as I can)
I had no issues Bluetooth tethering from my Atrix to my prime. Worked flawlessly just like wifi tethering. I use wireless tether app, then go in options and set it on B/t tethering. Works great. It might be that built in one you using causing issues.
thanks
damn it I was afraid of that.....hmmm now to decide whether I should pay shipping for RMA or shipping for exchange or learn to live with it SIGH
UPDATE:
.14 patch seems to have fixed the problem

[Q] Bluetooth Tethering

Hi folks,
Has anyone had much luck with tethering an Internet connection using bluetooth (not wifi)
I've tried tethering from my HTC Desire HD (ICS 4.0.4) to my Archos 101 G9 (ICS 4.0.4), after pairing I can get the tablet to connect and use the Internet connection, but after a minute the bluetooth connection drops out.
Has anyone else noticed a similar problem?
I've found a few threads on the Asus Transformer section with a very similar issue but they seems to have been fixed by a recent firmware update from Asus.
no tethering by BT with ICS
use the wifi

I have a 101 G9 Turbo 8GB version I bought off Sellout.Woot back in March. I installed a rom off XDA but I don't remember which one! It was one of the 3.2.80 versions though. After some trial and error I have been able to tether my tablet to my Nokia E71 through bluetooth DUN using the command line. It isn't the easiest to do but its usable.
it works good when tethering from Asus transformer to my archos g9 101 but the speed isnt the best.

Works for me!
It works outstandingly for me:
Phone: Verizon XV6900 (aka HTC Touch - CDMA EVDO rev A, no wifi), WinMo 6.1 running Internet Sharing utility.
Archos 80, "Staples Special" (1 Ghz/512 MB RAM/7 GB storage - listed as 4GB, go figure), ICS, FW 4.0.6
How I did it:
1. BT pair the phone and tablet (duh ;-)
2. Make sure they are connected - tap the phone device name in the Android BT settings list so it shows connected
3. Start ICS ("Internet Connection Sharing" - they had that acronym long before any Google Android existed ;-) on the WinMo phone, tap its "Connect" soft key.
4. Android settings: "More.../Tethering & portable hotspot/Bluetooth tethering" check marked (yeah, I thought that meant the Archos would share its connection - dunno about that, but it is working in the opposite direction for me - go figure).
I streamed a TunedIn radio stream for several hours this way at a hotel recently (good thing I have the "unlimited" data plan grandfathered, but looks like I only used about 20MB, picking 40Kbps stream).
YMMV

It does work because the two bluetooth device are connected and if the second support being used as a modem...it will default into that Internet Sharing profile.
I don't think your step 3 & 4 is necessery. I've used Archos 80 with Nokia C3 and other Android Tablets. It seems to more work with Bluetooth 3.0 devices.
Instead of 3 & 4 above ...you should go to Bluetooth, find the paired and connected device and click on the Setting icon....you will see a check box there which checked by default "Use this to connect to the internet"
I dont get the Blutooth tethering to work...
HTC HD Mini (WinMo 6.5) and G9 101 1,5GHz 8GB (ICS 4.0.7 Stock)
Pairing is no problem.
But starting ICS it tells me that a NAP network is required and the G9 does not support that...
I did exactly like rokkywoof described, but :-(
Does anybody have it running with that combination (WinMo 6.5 and G9 ICS 407)?
Thanks,
Marti

Cool - you are correct that step 4 is not needed (probably explains why I was so surprised by my "misunderstanding" of the Archos' tethering setting - no misunderstanding at all since, instead, that BT setting you point out is what must be setting the Archos to tether off a device such as my phone).
However, step 3, on my XV6900 phone at least, is most definitely needed. Unless the phone is running that ICS app, it has no way to share its data network connection for Internet access - it will not run it automatically. Good thing, too, or it would run the battery down in no time.

If my acronym lookup is correct, "NAP" means Network Access Point, and that should be what your phone connects to in order to share that connection with the Archos (tethering). The G9 really should not "care" how your phone connects to a data network, or did the G9 throw that message? If so, that would seem to indicate the G9 is trying to share a mobile data connection it does not have (assuming no 3G USB device plugged into the USB port on the back of the G9), so maybe you need to unset the Archos tethering setting that my step 4 specifies, as
nashi20002003 pointed out in correcting my instructions. I have found now that I only need to go as far as step 3 (contrary to nashi20002003's other "correction" - I have to respectfully disagree with that part in that I must manually run ICS on the phone ).
Have you ever had the ICS (assuming you meant WinMo Internet Connection Sharing, as I did - not Android version, Ice Cream Sandwich) utility to work for any other device? Do you get data connections (web, email, etc) now with the phone when using it by itself?
Back to the phone setting, my ICS window shows 2 dropdown text boxes. One is "PC Connection" with choices of USB or Bluetooth PAN, the latter being what I use with the Archos. The other dropdown box is "Network Connection", and my only choice is "Data Network Connect", which is my Verizon 3G connection.
I would guess your phone has some variant of GSM technology such as my T-Mobile Dell Streak 5. It has an Access Point specified (epc.tmobile.com) under its Android Settings/Wireless & network settings/Mobile networks/Access Point Names. I would think that is what your NAP refers to, and it needs to be set and active for a data connection for your phone to share. Maybe your ICS setup needs a configuration item set for that which is equivalent to my "Data Network Connect" mentioned in the preceding paragraph? ICS has a path to those settings in its menu on the bottom right via the "Connection Settings" option, but that is too complex for me to step through right now - especially since I have not touched it for a couple years (thinking it "just worked" as installed, and likely I never "touched" it) .
HTH - share more info, and ask any further questions you might have to see if we can work through this.
@rokkywoof:
sorry for the delay, I was on a short trip this weekend
Thanks a lot for your reply and your help.
I could not get the g9 to use the internet connection of my phone via bluetooth.
I am using the internet with my phone (3g connection) with no problem.
I never used the InternetConnectionUtility on my phone with another device.
I can pair my phone with the g9 via bluetooth.
My ICS setting on the phone shows the same 2 dropdown boxes and under "PC-Connection" I choose "Bluetooth PAN" as you do and under "Network connection" I choose "Internet GPRS" (thats my normal internet connection, I assume). I click connect (bottom left) and the phone then tells me that it cant connect to a NAP network.
I think I have to tell the phone Bluetooth that it should provide something like a "Modem-Profile" and the g9 that it has to use the paired phone as the internet-connection. But I am not able to find these two items anywhere...
I already looked through Bluetooth settings (bottom right in ICS onPhone) but was not successful in finding any valuable items or settings.
If you have any further ideas I would very much appreciate your help!
Thanks so far,
Marti

A further "Go Figure" on the Staples Special is that the CPU is actually 1.2 Ghz. Go figure. Finally go weigh it. Spec says 475g, actual 525g. I think they added a metal plate to the back to stop your finger from causing the swirlies. I also believe that TI recently quit making OMAP 4430 in 1 Ghz, but my guess is the literature was already produced. Maybe they stopped making 4 GB storage too!

sorry for the delay, I was on a short trip this weekend
Thanks a lot for your reply and your help.
I could not get the g9 to use the internet connection of my phone via bluetooth.
I am using the internet with my phone (3g connection) with no problem.
I never used the InternetConnectionUtility on my phone with another device.

At this point, all I can suggest is focus on getting your phone's ICS to work. Are there any other settings for Network Connection than "Internet GPRS"? If so, you might want to try them to see if that gets any better results (or at least informative messages that might provide any useful clues).
Do you (or a willing friend) have any other devices with Bluetooth that can network via PAN? If so, see what results you get with them.
As for the G9 settings, when I go to the Bluetooth settings, the phone, in my list of paired devices, has a settings button (the same 3 horizontal lines with "blips" on them as used for the main overall Archos settings button image, only smaller), and when I tap that, it shows a "Profiles" section with option for "internet access" that takes a check mark to activate - do you see that on your G9? Even so, if the phone is throwing that NAP error, I doubt that will make any difference, but at least see if it is available.
BTW, I updated to the 4.0.7 "firmware", so that makes no difference on my G9 80.

Ah - Staples not catching up with all of the Archos updates might explain some, but not all, of the discrepancies.
The current Staples description only states "OMAP 4 ARM CORTEXTM dual-core A9" without specifying which TI processor. My tablet's info shows 4460, but not speed, and Archos' site specs for the 80 state still state 1Ghz, and, for the TURBO, "from 1.2GHz to 1.5GHz (at start of 2012)". Did you actually measure the speed with some utility?
I just weighed mine on a food scale, and it is just under 470 grams, so about the 465 that Archos specifies for this model, and a lot less than the 1.4 pounds (635g) the Staples listing has. No plate in mine? Not seeing the screen "warp" issues.
Also, Staples specifies 8.9" sceen, but my measurement is about 7.9" (which makes sense as the visible part of an 8" inch screen as specified on the Archos site, and what this model is listed at "everywhere".
Lesson: don't take Staples' specs at face value!
Was there ever a 4GB internal storage variant?
Yes. Sorry for oversight. I only meant to say what I said for step 4. Step 3 is phone dependent. I had to do that on my old windows phone and the old 5IT. With g9 with Motorola zoom and nokia c3 I did not have to do anything else. Cheers!

Hmmmm.... my Phones ICS works like a charm as the Internet-Access for a DELL-Notebook via Bluetooth. I paired the devices, started ICS on the phone and told the notebook to use this connection for network access.
That is what I am missing on the g9: I have the settings button for my phone on the g9 bluetooth menu as well as you have it. But when I click it, I only have 2 items to choose:
1. Rename the paired device name (thats my phone)
2. Unpair devices
A "profile" item does not exist :-(
(I do not know the exact notation because I use a german g9)
BTW, I am on 4.0.7 firmware as well...
Thanks again for your time in helping me out,
Marti

Ah - so the phone is proven to work with ICS - good data point.
That, along with the facts that ICS is throwing the missing NAP message, and the G9 not showing an Internet connection option for the pairing with the phone, suggest the possibility that the pairing went the "wrong way" - i.e., the phone is looking to the G9 for services instead of the other way around.
Try this:
1. Unpair the devices.
2. Start ICS on the phone. See if it will "connect" - if not, ok.
3. Make the phone BT visible.
4. Initiate pairing from the G9.
5. Now see if the G9 has an internet connection option for the phone BT.
If not, I am totally stumped.
If so, try it (start ICS connection if it would not start in step 2)!
Good luck!

Sorry to say a lot of phones are not working with this bluetooth tethering built into HOneycomb and ICS. You will need to use Android Pdanet for tablet in combination with it's associate phone app. Unfortunately that's only available on Android. Not Symbian or Windows. Even the Nokia phones which worked fine with the Archos Bluetooth Tethering App on Gen8, are not working with the ICS Builtin version. For a while I had thought Archos did not include this option until one day I noticed I can pair my tablet with a Motorolla Zoom. Then I a couple of phones I knew worked with BT Tethering in Gen8 and they did not work with my G9 tablet. But I tried Nokia C2 and it worked. I looke into finding what profile was needed on the phone side beside DUN or PAN...but I did not find what mande the difference between the Nokia C2 and Nokia E71. E71 worked fine with Archos BT Tethering on Gen 8. So did Nokia 5230 Nuron. But both would not work with G9. The only I've come up with is the BT version of the phone. Both C2 and Zoom have BT 3.0 Tried my Samsung Exhibit II but it would not work. Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G and HTC Amaze 4G and they work.
I think old phones with BT version less than 2.1 won't work. Not sure why.
you can follow some of the discussions I've had with another Archos member here
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=64440
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=57219&hilit=+Tethering
I have an old Nokia E71 myself and the rooted 4.0.6 firmware on my 101g9 tablet. In the bluetooth options on the tablet for my phone all I get are the options to rename or unpair the phone. No other options at all.
I know the E71 has the DUN profile in it. I CAN successfully use the dun profile but I have to use the command line to do it all. BUT you have to have rooted your tablet as you wont be able to use some of the commands otherwise.
You have to bind the channel the phone is using for DUN (switches between 2 and 4 oddly enough on my phone) to /dev/rfcomm then start ppp manually from the command line.
Some programs will NOT recognize the active ppp connection as a valid internet connection. The standard browser will work just fine though. I use Opera Mini for browsing to help keep my data usage down while using the tethering.

Wifi Direct on .28

Hi Everyone
How to send a file from prime by wifi direct to galaxy s2 or from s2 to prime?
Both devices recognized each other but when I want to share a file by ez file explorer or quickpic nothing hapends (s2 once again is searching devices but can't find it
I've read that the problem is ICS, it has API for wifi direct but no app for data sharing
Thx for answer
But on .21 I couldn't even find my galaxy s2 via Wifi direct. On .28 I found it and even I connectet this two devices.
On s2 (ICS) there is an optin in share settings (send via Wifi direct) but in Prime isn't.
Maybe this is a problem...
Really? I've been able to connect my devices but no option for file sharing, both on prime and GS2.Which rom are you running on galaxy? Where you have found this option?
Go to esfile explorer or quickpic...share option and there is option Wifi direct but when I push this it says - 0 devices. I press search for devices. It finds my Prime...cennecting but then nothing happends
I'm on stock ICS 4.0.3 XXLPQ
I've tried both with quickpic and es (and stock gallery, root explorer) but no option for wifi sharing..
I'm running cyanogen 9 05062012
Hi I can confirm that wifi direct does work since latest firmware but does not seem to be fully functional,as mentioned maybe requires a wifi share app.
Have tested with Prime and Galaxy S3 both stock. When i say work ,I can send from S3 to Prime no problem but can't send from Prime to S3 as no wifi direct share icon appears in any apps drop down share menu .Gallery ,quickpic etc same as yourself.
All i did was turn wifi direct on on both and scanned both devices fond each other then option to connect appeared on both devices. Tried from Prime first to send a pic from gallery but as stated no share appeared. So tried same from S3 worked a treat with pics and a 1080hd clip received on Prime.
I was thinking maybe on prime going though the my net app but haven't tested it yet to see if the options built into it.
Ive been working with the android development kit trying to get Wifi-Direct functionality on the prime. There is certainly more functionality in .28 than there was in .21, but there is still not a complete Wifi-Direct implementation stack.
There is a WifiDirectDemo app in the r14 and r15 ADK packages which hooks into the Wifi-Direct APIs to manage connections with peers, and send/receive fails. It works great on my GS3, I can connect to peers and send files, the TF201 will accept the connection, but cannot receive the files.
If I run the demo app on the TF201, it can list peers, but will not connect to them.
If I create a connection from the GS3 to the TF201, then run the WifiDirectDemo app on the TF201, it lists the established connection to the GS3, but will not let me send anything because it hangs on "Connecting to socket" or "Waiting for socket connection" or something along those lines.
This indicates to me that ASUS has not fully implemented the whole Wifi-Direct stack, only partially.

[Q] Bluetooth Tethering using stock ICS

I'm experiencing something weird tethering my Nexus S to my TF Prime in order for the tablet to use the phones internet connection.
I have ICS on both devices, and last week paired them up, marked the Nexus to share its internet connection, and everything worked fine and I updated facebook and twitter to my hearts content.
This week however, when I connect the devices, the Transformer Prime constantly shows "No Internet Connection". The phone can be used to surf, so its net connection is intact, and in the Tether settings it says "sharing the Internet connection with 1 device", so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the phone.
However the Prime still shows "No Internet Connection". I was wondering if there was any fix this issue. I can't find reference to this anywhere else in the forums.
Ideally I don't really want to use other apps to do this, since I already know they aren't necessary as I was connected and working fine last week. I only want to know what I have to do to make it work as it did before... can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!
