[Q] Deleting Stock wallpapers, permission ? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, first I used the search but it return no results.
I updated my Xperia Ray to ICS yesterday, then rooted it.
Now I want to remove some of the built in wallpapers like "a_tree_palms" and others ugly ones located in system/etc/customization/content/ [etc...]. After trying to set permission to read/write (using FX Explorer with the root permission addon) I wasn't able to delete them, in fact they seems to be recreated the next second after deleted !
How can I remove them permanently, what kind of permission I need, I'm careful with that because of a bootloop last time I changed permission to system files so I ask before now...
Thanks for your help.
Edit : what a noob I am ! Solved problem, thanks for helping me...

How did you do it? trying to do it on my tablet.

Try another explorer such as root explorer or ES file explorer. Just for ES you will have to go to settings and activate root explorer and mount system as r/w

Yeh I have got both root explorer and es explorer. but where abouts is the files saved?
Thanks

:fingers-crossed: Seriously I wanna remove those stock wallpapers and live wallpapers... They suck!! :silly:

total commander also has root capabilities. for live wallpapers you can just remove the .apk in the system/app folder

What's the best file manager with root enabled? (possibly free )
Sent from my MB525
for me is file expert
File Expert does the job for me
I like Astro. It has all the usual tools of any file manager, and it remembers the settings of each folder like windows explorer in PC.
No root mode for both of them or do I need glasses?
Sent from my MB525
Ooops sorry FE doesn't have root access as yet.
You can probably manually give Astro root permissions, but it does not ask for them by itself. Instead, it just states 'insufficient permissions'.
I myself prefer Root Explorer. It's basic, but because of that, not cluttered with features I do not need in a file manager.
I've been using Super Manager.
The free version gives you root explorer capabilities, including R/W.
Some features are locked down unless you pay, such as the ability to directly open/edit files in the root explorer function but a quick'n'dirty workaround is to copy the file in question to the SD card, edit it to your hearts content and paste it back over the original.
Same as above - super manager seems ok

I've just started using super manager as i needed to instal apps to the system/app file and couldn't do it with File Expert. Quite like SM now and it does what i need.
Root explorer is great! I use the paid version for all my tasks, but I will try super manager as it seems to have many followers!
i also use root explorer, try the free version, i went for the paid one. it's very easy too use
I have tried out a couple(ES, FE Astro) but I really like Super Manager after having used it.
The amount of options and tweaks and the free root access combined with a solid ui makes it an easy choice for me.
For those that dont know.
ES File Explorer (free) works just fine with root. Here is a trick. I just stumbled upon it while trying to mess with it.
Settings -> Home Directory
change home directory to be "\" instead of "\sdcard\"...
waaalaa, it's there....i was able to edit a file, didnt try saving it.
give it a shot and let us know..

If you tried saving it, you'd have seen ESFE pop up an error message. Its root capabilities only work on a couple of custom ROMs.
the best file manager is the ADB shell
but super manager is OK too.

Best Filemanager

You just like root manager because it can mount in root modus but i think when it could not do that(i mean root modus), it would not even on the 10th place ... there is one positiv aspect of root manager, when you use dropbox you dont need a secound explorer

i use eFile i woulr recommend it to every one, because of the first page when you open the manager i also used astro, but if you play with the setting in astro you get 3 or 4 new apps in your drawer ;(
I prefer Root Explorer. Only this app can set permissions for system files.

That is the reason why i wrote "Root Explorer (dont vote just becouse of the root)" because you must use this app to edit your root there are no other apps that can do that!
But my question is which is the best File Manger. And i must say i have also Root explorer but i never set the permisions to write(delete) in the root files. and i recommend that to everyone if you delete something wrong you need to restore your whole system so you shold always have a back up before doing such a stupid thing

File Expert here, mainly due to the ability to serve my files via wireless (http server or ftp server) with one touch
Root Explorer is the most professional and usefulness

[Q] How to turn off shutter sound on CM9

I'm using the nightly build (2012-04-05) of CyanogenMod 9 and I wanted to know if it is possible to turn of the shutter sound when focusing or taking a picture?
The only way I found to turn off the shutter sound is to put the ringtone and notification volume to silent. Is there another way?
In theory, you could possibly create silent tone, rename it what shutter sound file is on the phone & swap the files. But I'm not sure if the is possible.
An easy solution that I know works is to find another camera app that allows you to disable the sound. Camera ZOOM works for that. There may be others
It is illegal in some locations. No I'm not doing creep shots . I just find it annoying. Seems like a novelty on a digital camera

You can off the camera and video sounds in cm 9 by going through the following simple steps.
1.You have to install root explorer or Es file explorer.(you need to R/W data on phone SD card.
2.Then go to system/media/audio/ui/
3.Find the Camera_click.ogg and rename it as Camera_click.ogg.off
4.Rename the following files also same as the step3

ES does find it. There are two options for browsing as root you have to enable. One is to allow root privileges and the other is to enable actually browsing /system folders. And then a third option to mount /system as writeable.
I'm not a huge fan of ES though..missing some features I like in Root Explorer. Root Browser looks promising though as well. Nice find.

I have no problem with using ES File Explorer accessing any root directory.
I was looking at Solid Explorer recommended earlier in the thread when I came across X-plore. I downloaded it and I'm quite impressed.

[Q] Why can't I copy/paste apk to system/app? ("permission denied")

I have a rooted Verizon GS4 and am trying to install an apk as a system app using ES File Explorer. I have root enabled in ES but when I copy the apk from my sd card so system/app I get "permission denied". What am I missing?

Did you grant read write privileges?
Edit:
Nevermind they changed up the layout and settings I do see what youre talking about tho. Its gotta be something witb ESFM because I can paste something to system with root explorer no problem..

I believe so. Root Explorer is "on" and Mount R/W permission is set as Path/ =RO, /persdata/absolute=RW, /system=RW, /firmware-mdm=RO.
Does that sound right?
OK, I went ahead and bought "Root Explorer" and was able to copy the Calendar apk into the system/app folder. But I still can't get it to install. system/app is mounted as R/W but when I tap on the apk and run "install" it says "application not installed" every time. Any ideas why? FWIW, the apk is "SecCalendar_NAmerica_SPen.apk" and should be the apk for the stock Calendar app.

The not installing is normal, see what permissions another system app has, apply the same.to the one youre copying. Reboot and it should work.

OK, I'm now stumped. I've changed permissions and "owner" so it's identical to all other .apk's in the system/app folder. But after rebooting it still isn't installed. It looks right in the system/app folder, but the application is not in my app drawer. (No icon, widget, etc.) Any other ideas?
I know this is old but I'm having the same problem. The file is Read Only and I can't figure out how to change the path so that I can copy it to system/app.
Thank you

[Q] App location?

I want to edit one of my apks (specifically Clash of Clans) and I can't find it's location on my phone. I have ES File Explorer and I have still have trouble locating it. My phone is the Galaxy S4 and there is no data/app folder or system/app folder so I have no clue where it is. If anyone could help me that would be great, thank you.

Applications that don't come bundled with the ROM are installed in /data/app (not data/app - even though your file explorer may hide the leading slash).
You can't read /data/app without root permissions. That's probably your problem.

Eh, my device is rooted and I still couldn't find /data/app even with root permissions enabled. All I did instead was send a copy app and that seemed to work (ES File Explorer to Dropbox). Thank you though.
How do I change the root permissions?
