Seperate partitions. But we can flash splash.nb0 from recovery with proper scripting in zip file. I can confirm this works thanks to con247.
An s-off hboot that shows s-on? That would be a s-off stealth hboot correct?

Check your Hboot Version by doing the following:
1. Disable Fastboot under settings -> power
2. Turn off the phone.
3. Hold the volume down button
4. Tap the power button.
That's part of the OTA, and still s-on. Also, without root/s-off it is impossible to flash a new bootloader, soooo, thanks I guess.....

S-On will always be there, it is like that for most/all shipped phones and will be that way until it is rooted.

All that can be said is try both builds out. I've tested out them both pretty extensively and there are significant differences in usability.
