How did you get Verizon to replace your RAZR with the MAXX?
And you do have to open the phone up in order to do the conversion.

It is almost impossible. I work for verizon and I have the same problem. I want to get my razr exchanged to razr maxx but they would not allow me. Sometimes it is better to be verizon customer that employee when it comes to exceptions. Now I am looking for a cheap broken razr maxx to swap the battery.

The brick and mortar can not do any exceptions usually but if they do exceptions usually it is a brand new phone since they don't carry replacements. Over the phone it is easier than the store but the chance is 1 to 100. In order to make an exception the customer service looks at how long you have been with verizon(preferably 8 years or longer). The payment/credit history and call in rate. For the past 1-2 of you have paid all the bills on time, no credits has been issued(does not matter for what reason). If you don't call verizon quite often. The last but most important is how much you pay. If you pay $300+ per month on your bill. If you meet all those qualifications. You have higher chance of getting an exception. Don't be rude it will not get you anywhere. Be polite and have facts, why it is beneficial for verizon to switch your phone to maxx.

Possible trade for Droix x2

I might trade my Thunderbolt for a Droidx2 tomorrow.. any thoughts? I had the first X and I loved it. I traded it for an incredible for the roms.
Can anyone confirm or deny the following:
x2's camera > TB
x2's video/gaming > TB
4g is a plus but not a dealbreaker for me.
my opinion: i like motoblur over sense (if i don't modify, which is a reason i am considering trading)
any input would be great. i know it is late, especially on the east coast but i am hoping for some quick responses. thanks

Up to you man. The TB is definitely more desirable due to custom ROMs. However, this phone is future proof, and based on the recent acquisition, we might be in good shape. P3's preroot is money debloated...

it is, arguably, a hassle due to the 4g. sometimes you will lose 4g and need to flash a new radio/kernel/rom and no one else will experience the same issue.
has an OTA been released with gingerbread yet?
Yes but it's recommended to use p3s prerooted gingerbread, and other than the 4g the X2 stomps the Thunderbolt

yep, i am going to do it.
just put my TB back to stock and it runs so much better haha. the downside of that is the fact i hate sense and it is a total battery hog.
is netflix available for the x2 stock? or does the x2 need to be rooted with a modded netflix app?

from my X2 roaming the north
After playing around with a Thunderbolt and an X2 i defaulted to the X2, and I must say with all the tweaking I've done it is hands down the best phone I've ever had.
Never owning a TB but having owned the X and now an X2 I like the X2 for its speed but the memory is a little lacking every now and then a game will tell me the memory is low and that it may close unexpectedly. I have always liked the Moto quality for reception and other components and having toyed with a few other HTC phones, locked bootloader and all Moto still gets my bet too.
I came from a Thunderbolt. The lack of roms on the x2 makes me sad considering the large dev support for the tbolt. Honestly, the proformance of a non overclocked cm7 bolt was about the same as the x2 in the real world.

Don't know about the tbolt, but there were so many missed call issues on the fascinate that Samsung sponsored a swap thru vzw for fascinate owners. We got to choose between the x2, the dinc2 or the charge.

I have switched many phones on my Verizon contract and never charged . Why would they charge you , you are still paying for their service .
If flashing custom roms and 4g is important to you, then go for it. The X2 should be getting more dev support soon..hopefully..
Oh and I'm pretty sure the TB's camera is better than the X2's. Consumer Report rated it as the #2 or #4, I can't remember, best cell phone camera. The X was last, and it has the same camera as the X2.

The conventional wisdom is that Verizon allows you to "upgrade" (at the upgrade price) only once every 24 months. While you can trade "upgrades" between various phones on your service contract, you must pay the full retail price of the phone to change phones before being eligible to upgrade.
When I got the X2, I asked if I could trade it for a Samsung Galaxy S2, if that were to be released in the next few months. They said that after 14 days I was stuck with the phone until upgrade time. They said they never resell a used phone, even if returned within the original 14 days. They told me they send them back to Verizon who "refurbishes" them and then they may resell them at a discount online.
So I'm still wondering how you are able to work out these trade deals? Anyone else ever hear of this, other than the Samsung sponsored offer?

Oh. Well yeah, you can do that.
Before trading out for a droid x2 you may want to look into all the audio problems people have reported. I personally have experienced very bad audio skipping while using my x2 and no hacks tips tricks super charges or roms have resolved the problem. I keep my fingers crossed for a solution but if I were you and liked listening to Pandora Slacker or any other audio on my phone I would stay away from the x2 for now

Razr Dev Edition?

http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/29/motorola-announces-razr-developer-edition-with-unlocked-bootload/
So it looks like they want to market a 3rd RAZR, this one with an unlockable bootloader.
It seems Motorola is really being ridiculous with all these refreshes.
Wtf motorola?! Just unlock our current ones.
Gotta say Moto, that is one of the most pathetic moves I have ever seen.
Wait until they release a razr maxx dev edition. I can just see them doing that.

I think Moto's management has some serious lessons to learn.
I was struggling with wether to get a Razr Maxx for a bit more $$.
Now I am not struggling anymore.
I am thinking to move to Galaxy Nexus now.
Guys does GN's radio really work much worse than Moto's one?
I just thought seems the only way we can let them know, is to boycott their stuff.
I do not think Moto is dumb to release a new RAZR model just to unlock the boot loader. They'll make this as an update to existing RAZR owners. Or at least offer a program to ship them your existing RAZR to get one with an unlocked boot loader.

Edit: Well maybe the 2nd half of my previous post is not plausible but the first definitely is.
Wow. That's soooooo ****ty if that's the case. I guess I'll have to do a warranty exchange to get the developer edition. Couldn't they just do a software unlock instead? This is just going to delay updates to EVERYONE.

-Sent from my Droid 2-
any LTE phone is going to have battery issues with the exception of the Maxx... my wife has a RAZR and I have a Nexus and her radio is much better indoors than mine. Out doors its about the same. My battery lasts longer as well through a day of typical use. I usually use mine more. But I personally have gotten 36 hours out of a single charge with toggling LTE/data with the most recent roms that are out for the nexus. Battery is relative to how you use it, a 1750mah battery will give a rezound much the same battery life as a nexus and razr.

Back to the RAZR.

So I started with a RAZR when it was the buy one get one free. Had 7, Verizon offered me a nexus, had 3 of those. Trade the nexus for a htc rezound and a ps3, had 2 rezounds, traded that for a Droid 4, traded the Droid 4 for a RAZR. Biggest circle every of phones for me! Lol. And I might have a gut that wants my razr for a nexus, but I don't think I'll trade.

Post Your RAZR/RAZR Maxx Story.

How did you end up with this phone? What made you choose it? What makes you keep it? Post your story.
I have the Razr Maxx on Verizon Wiress (CDMA). Things I dislike about this phone...
1. The camera, it's no slouch but I got use to the camera on my previous GS2. That has better lense/camera.
2. Slight lag here and there, again I came from a GS2 that used Exynos processor.
3. No HD display BUT I am a big fan of Super Amoled. I just love how the colors pop.
4. Locked boot loaders!! (My Samsung GS2 was so easy to root and flash things on.)
There was even some points I thought of selling my Maxx and getting a GS3. I loved the GS2 but main problem was it had a really horrible wireless radio plus being on Sprint network did not help. I had no intentions in getting a Razr when I walked into the Verizon store. I already liked Samsung, I just needed better service. Had my mind on the Galaxy Nexus. But I loved the build of the slim RAZR. Tried it for a week or so, Ioved it. Got signal in areas I never did with other phones being on other networks. Battery was a big problem, like most Android phones, I said eff it and got the Maxx.
The radio and battery life make up for all the things I dislike about this phone. I just got a case from Seidio and that gives me the new phone feel again lol. I gave up things getting this phone but I've also gained things so it balances out

Had rezound. Battery was terrible. Got talked out of getting a new phone (within 14 days) and instead got the extended battery. Still awful battery, and other problems. Got replacement rezound. That was even worse. Finally they let me exchange, and I got the maxx because I wanted the battery.

also have working Linux 12.04 and all open office full programs
forget to charge one nite and it still runs all day the next...
64 gb SD card - 500hrs video and 1000 songs and still 18 gb. (I have 5 Linux distros for testing also -10gb)
12 games
off air GPS maps for all of northern NY plus Google maps off air redundant

free tether

The main criteria to buy a phone, is it has to be able to works as a phone. Period. Previously, I have RAZR V3xx, before changed to other Nokia phones and the Nexus One. V3xx was a very good phone which did a very good job as a phone; makes and receives calls. It also a very good HSDPA 3G "modem", USB tethered to laptop. Now I have RAZR XT910... and it just as good as the V3xx. I don't care how many cores, benchmark's scores or frames speed, but, if it cannot functioning as a proper phone, than it is worthless to me.
Thank you.

$100 Credit for Upgrade (For Everyone)

https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/ci/documents/detail/2/motorola-jelly-bean-rebate_en-US
Basically, if Motorola doesn't upgrade your 2011 Motorola smartphone to Jelly Bean they will (most likely) give you a $100 credit towards a new phone. Limited details right now but I signed up for alerts. Rumors are X2 will be one of these phones.
So if you are looking to a new phone I would wait a few weeks. I'm probably going to be switching to the Razr Maxx HD (complicated name!) when it comes out and a $100 credit would be amazing!
Opinions? Anyone still use an X2 besides me?
I'm not so sure if it would be worth it. You need to trade in your old phone and the x2 is selling for at least 100 on swappa and other sites so why not choose cash over a gift card?

It's tempting...the $100 plus I do like how strong the build quality of this motorola phone is and the razr's do seem pretty tough as well, but I will probably pass and get something like a samsung note 2 or an htc incredible x that does/will have an unlocked bootloader. Plus I dont want to trade in my X2...rather keep it as a backup or wifi device that my kid can play on.

We're definitely not getting JB. $100 is nice, but it's probably towards only moto devices. Which is fine. Razr HD for me when my upgrade is active.

I'm not so sure if it would be worth it. You need to trade in your old phone and the x2 is selling for at least 100 on swappa and other sites so why not choose cash over a gift card?

How long does the offer last? My upgrade isnt available until April of next year. $100 off a $550 phone is still expensive. I'll probably end up switching from Motorola anyway when the time comes.

Your upgrade should bring it down to $200, plus the $100 off. And since you have moto now, they should honor it well into next year. My upgrade is in March, but I might swing in around January and see if I can get it a month or two early.
Definitely sticking with moto. I've had numerous Samsung devices that I've needed to have replaced. Not a single problem with my DX2, and it takes a serious beating. Moto definitely makes the best physical handsets, period.

I agree about Motorola phones being built well. My x2 is over 8months and still looks new. I had the LG Ally before this and it was a good phone too...it looked brand new when I gave it away it just needed a new battery.

My DX2 also looks like it just came out of the box.
We still have an Ally getting used everyday in our household. It looks a bit worn, but not bad. It even survived a run in with a toilet, lol.
Just a bump with a story I read today
I saw this today in a Mozilla newsgroup and thought folks here would be interested.
Onto the story: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57526994-94/android-users-outraged-over-motorolas-broken-promise/
My X2 has been to the bottom of a local river on fishing/kayaking this year twice ! Never stopped working.....got a little glitch for a bit but kept on ticking. Still looks new also.....they are great devices. It will be hard to give mine back. But
with the work of DZK its made me want a phone capable of full Jelly capabilities.

I got my $100 credit towards the razr HD and it is sick. It is probably the best choice out there from Moto, and it makes the x2 look like a joke.

Has anyone seen a timeline on this? I'm not eligible for an upgrade until January--wouldn't want to miss out on this.
I've had my eyes on the Razr Maxx HD--wouldn't want to miss a free $100

Just to clarify, does the phone have to be returned to VZW in an unrooted state, for them to honor the $100 offer?
