the second core is on demand you can use system tuner to force all cores online to get better performance

He's right (TGamble160 that is) there are some benefits of forcing the second core but it's not the best thing you should do for your device, the second processor is designed to provide loading process but forcing the second core to run all the time can over heat the device and cause damage that can't be repaired.
I actually came here to check out how people felt about the Amaze and to see if it was worth getting but I thought I would throw that bit of information out there because I've already had a device bork out because my neighbor loved the speed and didn't think to turn it off resulting in the burnt out paper weight.

After updating to ICS I noticed that is uses both cores fairly often and seems to be a LOT faster. It's already quick so I dont see a need to force it run both at all times.

Big help...I must say the more I have this phone the more I like it...super fast and smooth...I'm running the new revolution ice and its smooth as butter...

first you must have root....in sytem tuner select cpu option....then boot setting...then force all cpus....works like a dream

if you set system tuner to on demand it does not overheat the phone it still slows the processors when not being used but has them both ready for when they are needed. i keep both online on demand and my phone runs awesome! no overheating and still great battery life. however i set it to performance and the phone is blazing fast but does get warm and battery is gone in a flash.

does setcpu have the same capability as system tuner? I mean forcing the 2nd cpu to run?

Ahh thats where the setting is. I must have overlooked the options last time. Thanks button clicked for ya =)
edit:
Is it also possible to change the min/max of the 2nd core? cpu0 is at 192mhz, while the 2nd core stays at the default 384mhz even with the slider all the way down. thanks.

I am rooting and forcing them both.

Did you read the thread completely? The second core is used when needed. Otherwise single core is used to save battery.

Overclocking 825Mhz attempt

I'm gonna try this on my Mini but I have a question. Can my battery/cpu melt by running 825Mhz or higher than 729Mhz?
I also run 122Mhz as lowest
I've gone 781, thats about all the balls I have to go up to. Device is still perfect.
good luck! let us know how it went

No dude.....if ur CPU is not capable of it, it will go into an infinite loop which can be easily restored by xRecovery, that all.

Yeah :\
Phone went into an infinite loop, but I wiped settings in xRevovery...
i see that the cellphone cpus are the same with the desktop/laptop ones. some can take more heat, some not. mine is stable at max 749. once i go a step up, it will freeze when doing some task. tried 825 and it freezes as soon as i hit apply.
yea... same thing here... when I set 825MHz it frozes few sec later... and phone restarts and works normaly on 720MHz...
I once accidentally set my frequency to 825mhz in SetCPU(damn those sliders) but switched it back to 652 mhz like, instantly, and there was no damage done. =D
Yeah, also tried that. It instantly froze and gave me a bootloop. Mine is stuck @ 710MhZ default setting ^.^
Sent from my X10mini using XDA App
Yours is stuck at 710 mhz? You have to use No-frills Cpu to set or just use SetCPU, you cannot change them through performance settings.

This is false. You should be able to change them directly through CyanogenMod CPU settings..
Mine can pull 748 max, anything higher and it reboots, no bootloop though as always turn set at boot off for testing frequencies

No Sorry, I didn't mean that it really stuck, of course I can change them.. but mine is set at default settings.
I also tried setting it to 768MhZ but gave me frequent reboots. So I just set it to default
Sorry for bad english..
NO NO NO,
it overheats the phone and moreover that speed is unnecessary
Overclocking is logarithmic in terms of overall system speed. Running the clock at 800mhz isn't double the speed of the processor at 400mhz, the advantage gain compared to even 700mhz would be miniscule. The processor would most likely become unstable and result in a much poorer performance than default clock speed.

and later we have to change the phone itself (result of a big hole)
Heres my overclocking results, i used quadrant to benchmark, I'm running 787mHz no problem, is this around normal results ??? would just like to know incase its not performing properly

At 710mHz ("remember on boot" option enabled) the phone works like a charm compared to the factory 600mhz frequency, which is awful - the phone is slow like a running snail!
Over 710mHz when I turn on "remember on boot" option, after a reboot the phone goes to a bootloop, from which I can not escape even with Xrecovery simply because I can not enter the Recovery module at all.
Over 710Mhz even with the "remember on boot" option disabled, to avoid the bootloops after restart, the phone is too unstable and the positive effects from the overclock are much less than its advantages.

Launcher Pro Improves Benchmarks

Soo i happened to change my default launcher to launcher pro instead of sense. The Reslult? most benchmarks i found had a huge improvement, notably cfbench and nenemark. Just thought id pass this along to show those Galaxy SII snobs we can keep up on benchmarks even with a higher resolution
What app did you use to measure? I'd like to try one since I disabled pretty much every non essential package possible and running ADW Ex.
At x33 overclock, I get 13,000+ in CF. I never tried with Sense..

Use CFBench Or Nenamark. Ive had good results too from ANTUTU
I got overall 5163, don't know what that means, don't really care lol. Using CF Bench. Right there with the sensation. About 1300 under the SG2
Im sure over clocking and a fresh reboot would give it a significantly higher score.

btw... once you have a different launcer installed, you can go into TiBu and freeze (i uninstall) alllll the sense stuff... Not some of the frameworks... But in doing this you get a HUGE memory reduction, as well as sell CPU activity.

Nope no widgets. I'll have to try and freeze some more bloat.
Use setcpu, and use scaling performance so that it's truly running at 1.5GHz. Samsung uses "on-demand" speed scaling, so when you test, there's a chance it might be running at less than 1.5 if it hasn't scaled up to 1.5 yet
I'm running stock ROM (only rooted), CWM b4 recovery, and Da_G overclock kernel
Dont just freeze bloat uninstall it! I never freeze it.
i'm running stock everything except i run an installed Launcher. why would mine be higher than some others? does rooting slow it down?
here is my benchmark.
Using GO launcher, 6 home screens, 11 widgets - WidgetLocker Running in background w/ beautiful widgets.
SauROM w/ DaG kernel overclocked - 1.83 ghz - V6 supercharger script 1000+hp
My setCPU is 1.83 on "performance" setting (yes it makes a difference).
*Also, used RomToolboxPro to change i/o scheduler to Deadline and increase SD read write from 128kb to 3072kb...
Here is mine running Saurom with Da G kernal. Clock is at 1566mhz.

Couple things here, and by no means am I an Apple fan to ANY degree, but....
4S is close to year old technology, so comparing it to a brand new superphone like the Note (even the Skyrocket which has been to market for a couple months now) is silly. I generally like Phonedog and was genuinely surprised that guy would even compare the two devices. It sets a really silly precedent because 8 months from now, he'll likely make the same comparison between the Note and the Iphone5 which just might be similarly unfair, in the other direction.
Also, Quadrant is very nearly fraudulent in terms of its usefulness in showing the "actual" speed of a device, in a real-world sense, so I take ANY statement that starts or ends with Quadrant benchmarking with a huge truckload of salt.
Just my take...

[KERNEL] [3.1.10] [[email protected]/OV/BFQ/smartassv2/init.d] Atlantis R2

This is my first kernel build ever (not just for the Nexus 7). Just a starting point for more hacking on the Nexus 7.
Flashable zip package attached.
It should go without saying that anything you do with this package you do at your own risk.
Features
Insecure
init.d support
Overclocked to 1.5GHz
Voltage tweaks at OC clocks
BFQ scheduler
smartassv2 governor
lagfree governor
Made kernel version not suck
Notes
You should root and install busybox into /system/xbin before flashing this kernel. Don't flash this if you don't know what you're doing as I'm too lazy to include n00b instructions.

Smartass v1 was made for single core cpu's. Smartass v2 was made for dual core cpu's, so v2 might work better on a quad core? V2 doesn't really work all that well on my single core cpu for the phone I have.

Exactly right. I actually never really liked smartassv2 in general, but I think it is working out fairly well on the N7, actually.
This is after just a little bit of game time, some regular usage, and some sleep time. I may need to tweak some of the higher clock values so it scales up a bit more gracefully. At any rate, there will be plenty of options to play around with.

So whats the heat production and stability like at 1.5ghz? When you say 1.5ghz, is that like the htc one x where it is actually 1.4ghz but you can go to 1.5ghz when only using one core, or is it all four cores clocked at 1.5 please? Got to admit that a gpu OC would be really nice. This looks great, thanks
any chance of getting some gpu over clocks in then kernal, screw battery life give me mmmhhhzzz!
Is it possible to get scary gov on this? I think it's based on smartassv1 but not really sure. It gives me a good balance between performace and battery. Or perhaps we could make a scaryV2 lol?
Great work for a first Kernel
Is the extra battery drain worth that .2ghz of extra horsepower? Because i've heard it's a perfectly capable device @ 1.3ghz.

Thanks. Naturally, it's a matter of personal preference of course if it is "worth" it to OC any processor. OC'ing the N7 was more of a "because I can" thing than for any practical reason. The CPU is impressive as is.
The N7 is probably the fastest and most responsive mobile device I've ever seen even at stock, mostly thanks to the hardware but also due to Jelly Bean's ability to leverage this kind of raw power.
The actual battery drain between 1.3GHz -> 1.5GHz will all depend on how much time you spend at those higher clock speeds, of course.

Question Standard vs Light performance profile

I haven't seen anyone do a comparison between the two, but what are your experiences so far with this setting?
I am now on light, but it is quite hard to tell since i am not using the phine the dame way. It feels that the battery goes down slower, but I am at the point where i am not sure if it is really so or I just eant it to be. I dont feel the phone performance drop, but I have not done any heavy duty tasks on light
I've done benches comparing the two, the standard gives me a lower single core score and a higher multi core score. But when I switched to the light mode, the single core score went up and the multi core score went down. I've seen someone apparently got some insane high scores with the S23 ultra, as in 1600 single core score and 5400 on the multi, but there wasn't really any kind of revelation how they got it.

I get 1594 on single and 5127 on multi, thats on standard profile.
How the ****? I've done many runs and I've never even had 5k on the multiscore....

This was my latest pass, just few moments ago, with active cooling... Yes it's above the 1.5k and 5k but only now, with additional cooling, and it's not even that much higher. While you're nearing 1.6k and 5.2. I've got a ****ing dud... Cause if no one else has to do anything special and can get those scores consistently and higher, then clearly my phone is a ****ing potatoe...
Just ran another one. Don't know what to tell you :/ I know there is like a hidden code that you could input and generate a system dump and find the CPU bin score but I can't remember it
My man, do you think there's any chance you could find it out for me? I'm really curious but I haven't found anything online for newer samsung phones without having root.

I would be interested to see how this affects the battery life overall in light mode.

Dont be angry this benchmark was a fckn trash with totally random scores.... I got 1200 sometimes at single core... And running again the test right after, with much hotter cpu i get 1400+ score... Next 1300...Next 1500... Its a total random trash.

Yep. With these kinds of benches you have to do 5-10 of them and average the results to find the real number.
