NVFlash for prime! - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I'm not sure if anyone has posted about this. Pretty sure they haven't. It would appear Asus plans on giving us nvflash! You can find the official post in the official gary key product update thread. Here's the quote,
" 4/27/2012 Update -We are still validating a new firmware release. We are also tracking user reported issues with Tegra 3 games, WiFi Direct and some continued random reboot/lock problems with a few units. Based on current regression testing at HQ, NVIDIA and Google it appears we will need to sway out a few units to pinpoint exact user problems. For the unlocked audience, we have requested a version of NVFlash that works properly for users who unlocked their units."
Very glad to see this! Hopefully nvflash will hit soon!

WHAT IS IT? and How does it differ from what we got?

The big thing I think is that NVFlash allows you to recover bricked units.

Correct, it should allow total recovery even if you get the unrecoverable bootloader error that some peoples units are suffering from.
It should hopefully aid development of native Ubuntu for the Prime also.

This is great for an idiot like myself!
I knew I started drinking at 9am for a reason today!!!
Cheers....

It will also allow for reverting back to stock ROM so that the tablet can be sold to anyone!

Nope.... It wont if u want run version of Nvflash for Prime.

doesn't actually say a fully working version coming just that they have requested it
whoever makes the decision please don't f us all off

Ok now I know this has been asked, but will this allow me to save an entire copy of my OS along with everything else installed, so I can save it to an external device, and if I ever brick it, I can flash it back to the way it was at the last save,
I ask that because I would love to see how the prime runs windows 8 when it is released....

Well sorry but the prime will never be able to run Windows 8 sorry.

I have been waiting patiently for this tool for sometime now, got a rma ticket open eventually and Im considering shipping it back overseas (where I bought it), but after a few reports of packages coming back dented, scratched or deformed, Im a bit hesitent to go ahead. If this tool is near on the horizon, I'll wait it out further. Come on ASUS, nvidia, google make our day!

Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Is it really that hard to just wait a couple weeks?
Well i don't see why we can't start I'm sure someone wants to start playing with it!

The sooner Development starts, the better.
Yes it would be great to have an ICS rom before asus releases the OTA!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Well sure, sooner is better, but you're essentially suggesting that someone should go hack one of the retailer's display models to get something we'll all get in a couple weeks anyway.
I'm sure it's not illegal... I doesn't say ohh hey no rooting the display models.... And how cares... You don't even have to root it to do a system dump as far as I understand... It is just easier for the developers to work with when you dump while rooted...
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I don't see the point of any pre-ICS dev work if Asus is true to their word.
Understandably, we don't have much confidence in that at the moment.
I mean and im sure even if you got caught I'm sure that if you explained to the manager it was for a good cause he would be chill with it its not like they would arrest you for it lol!
Maybe if you stole it or put a penis as a wallpaper you might get thrown out!

True but it is possible and if we can beat asus to their own game it would be awesome!
My 2-yr old nephew is learning how to do a system dump on his own.. he wasn't successful..
Why don't you start with the source code that is available at the ASUS website?
http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_Prime_TF201/#download
We will have it in a couple of weeks, but why not already have people working on rom's and optimizing kernels for it. So when you get, you can start to mod it. This is a chance to get around a 2-3 week head start on making stuff. Do you know how much can be accomplished within that time?

Isnt there a PC virtual emulator for developers of android devices? Like an emulator of device the developer plans on using? I thought Ive seen this somewhere before.
So if someone was to do a system dump on their own Prime, what tools would be needed besides root explorer and razorclaw?

Now we just need ICS, with this root, it will be the best..
And we're living here in Allentown....
Ran out of Thanks...so THANK YOU! now watch the people come flocking back to the Prime that dismissed it at first Today n Jan. 12 will go down in Prime history books.

Yesterday xda members found that the prime had locked bootloader, people bricking their primes with the update, people start asking to ASUS to unlock bootloader.
Today's Asus released an official statement that will release an bootloader unlock tool, ICS official release on jan 12, and then jcase got root...
JCase needs one more prime to do another test:
<jcase> i need someone with a prime, to do one final test of root
<jcase> will release after 1 more
<jcase> will opensoruce after ICS

It's obvious that the update has been pulled. Even some US customers say that they haven't gotten their update yet. The whole thing about Gary saying that it's going live and that they tested Primes and everything is fine apparently turned out to be false if you look around the forums.
It's sensible thing for ASUS to simply stop these updates, since they are making things worse all around.

But the constant reboot when there is a fix is something I want now!

So I contacted my contact at Asus about nvflash and fastboot

I have been working with one guy at Asus since I first got my TF101. He has always been very helpful. I emailed him to find out about fastboot, and if they would release nvflash(I even asked if they would release it to developers if they signed an agreement not to redistribute it and used it for development purposes) and this was his response.. Just figured I'd share it.. I removed his name as I dont want everyone and their mother emailing him. lol
Dear Patrick,
I am not sure about NVFLASH tool since it is really Nvidia’s internal tool and they would want an NDA for that.
Unfortunately we only have the UNLOCK TOOL for now and this was difficult even to get released with the legal terms finally approved recently from our legal team.
As of now, I don’t know if legal team will approve developers to have a copy as it is more complex along with our agreement with Nvidia and getting our legal team to approve of that as well.
Thanks,
XXXXXXXX
So it doesnt look good unless someone at Nvidia leaks it.. or they decide to release it.

yup, that is the correct nvflash for our device. has nothing to do with nvidia, they released the tool with support for tegra 3. its asus not allowing the tool to work(no secure boot key im assuming?).

There are some more improvments that MIUI is pushing out as someone has stated, but for the most part, its not really changing much. Its more under the hood improvments then user improvments. Not saying that they dont or wont make user improvments, its not just not as dramatic as for say android has been know to go through
