APP for managing contacts - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Im having issues trying to clean up my contacts Ive got many doubles and I want to clean up my phone and SIM contacts its Ive tried before to delete them but they never seem to delete from my contacts.
EDIT: NVM fixed it

For those of us that might be having the same problem, would you mind enlightening us on how you fixed it?

Do it from a PC. Yes it is painful but it only has to be done once. I do not recommend using SIM contacts for a very simple reason. Many people today have email and phones plus IM etc datafilled with their contacts. Only phone numbers are supported on the SIM and even that has a limit of 1 number per contact. so if you have a contact with 4 phone numbers, that will be 4 contacts on your SIM and in your device when you import them.
I know this is the way it worked for GSM long ago and I don't think this has changed.
Best workaround is sync to Google. If you want a local copy after cleaning things up on a PC, export you contacts to your external SD card...

I cleared the data from contacts and contact storage from manage applications and then I synced my google contacts

There is app to delete duplicate contacts ..sorry I forgot the name...but its very effective...and also just like others stated always use google to sysnc contacts...this way when getting new phones...its easier and you wont have duplicates...

Trying to get contacts off the phone onto my gmail account

So I need to format the phone so I can apply the update. My contacts on my phone aren't online in my gmail. I need to save them there so I can then sync them back after I reformat the phone.
I have tried getting this to work on the phone and it is a no go. I can't get it to sync online and save the contacts. Anyone know how to get this to work?
there are several ways of doing this.
* use contact2sim pro and copy phone contacts to sim. then format phone and import contacts from sim to phone.
* convert all ur phone contacts to google contacts in phone and sync with gmail.
* mybackup pro does sumthing similar. though i dint try this. u can give it a shot. cheers
contact2sim work the same as the pro version. I just want to back the contacts up and then back onto the phone after I format.
How would I go about converting my contacts on my phone to google contacts?
Thanks in advance.

Anybody help with that?
Yep, I second that question. In fact, instead of having 1 set of contacts for Google, and one set for my Outlook contacts I would like them to be merged.
The same with the calendars. Everything I change in Outlook I would like to have reflected on my gmail account, without the need of a 3rd part application on the PC.

Duplicate Contacts & Unable to Delete them!

Hey!
My friend just bought a Samsung Galaxy S2, and soon he faced a weird problem; All contacts had 3 duplicates(four numbers total/contact)!
I tried to batch delete them with Samsung's contacts app, but for some reason, they weren't gone! I also tried Go Contacts, but the problem still existed.
The phone is completely stock.
Any help appreciated!
I had a similar problem. I backed everything up/synced to Google contacts. Then I removed the duplicates in Google (on a PC), then synced the contacts back to the phone.
You can merge contacts in Google which should take care of many of the duplicates, but for some reason it isn't perfect & there will be some (there might be a lot) you'll have to delete manually.
I don't see any reason why you can't do this with a phone running stock.
Thanks. I will tell him. I also wondered how can this problem exist on a completely stock phone.
you wont have duplicates in google not i would think anyway .. on ur ph u would prolly be seeing Ph contacts sim contacts and google contacts.. just delete ph and sim contacts, best to stick with google ones as each time u buy new ph first thing u can do is log into ur google account and have them back in minutes..
pretty sure there is a checkbox on which one u want to use , make sure all 3 are not checked maybe..
pretty sure if you go into one of the menus there is an option of which contacts to display, i usually pick sim only and that fixes it

[Q] Weird problem - contacts keep multiplying

Dad had a weird problem with his Samsung Galaxy - all the contacts duplicated numerous times so that sometimes there were 15-20 of each and it didn't matter if they were stored on the Sim card or in the phone.
Carphone Warehouse told him it was faulty and caused by water damage even though it had never got wet and everything else works fine, so he bought a HTC Sensation XL put the sim card in and then the exact same thing happened, so he sent that phone back and got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus which he's had a week, and guess what? it's happened again
All the contacts have been deleted off the sim card so its blank and Dad only entered 6 or 7 contact details into the phone, then today all of a sudden there are multiple copies of some of the contacts - any ideas what the cause is or for a cure? Dad is on Orange pay monthly and has already had a replacement sim card in case the first was faulty.
Cheers
Perhaps it could be synced Google Contacts?
Or any other kind of contact syncs?
Any kind of backup (Titanium Backup, MyBackup, etc?) that would restore the numbers?
Did he/you install any apps before this happening? Any contact/phone/sms/dialer apps perhaps?
No he hasn't synced with Google Contacts apart from when its forced on the Nexus, but he has no contacts to sync anyway as he dosen't use a computer, his only contacts are what he's manually entered. He hasn't downloaded any apps at all, and uses the phone as it come out the box - he only has it cause he likes the big touchscreen and he can see it ok, he dosen't use any features apart from calls, texts, email and the camera.
Hmm, sounds very weird indeed.
You said you tried both getting a replacement SIM card and a brand new phone, but not at the same time?
I would suggest doing a factory reset and a SIM card wipe (or even a replacement if easily possible) at the same time, and then try and enter 1 NEW phonenumber (not one that's been in the phone/SIM card before) and leave it for the amount of time that it took before it began multiplying the numbers before, to see if it does it again.
If it doesn't, try and enter some of the old numbers into the phone, and so on.
If it does multiply, then I don't know what's wrong.

Contacts you manually enter are automatically set to sync with Google contacts. What I think is happening is you keep resetting the phone and he enters in the contacts before all the Google contacts from the previous times are being restored therefore all the multiples are being synced together. So let the phone sit after a restore. The multiples should show up after a little bit. Go through and delete the duplicates and see if they come back.

Cheers I think you may have solved the problem
I logged into Dads google account online and found his contacts and there were 529 with loads of duplicates (40 or 50 of some), so I deleted the lot, turned off autobackup to google and sync on his phone and did a factory reset - he now has no contacts on the sim card, in the phone or stored with google so hopefully when he re-enters them they won't duplicate, I'll give it a few days then see what happens if I let it back-up and sync, but I've a feeling its sorted it.

[Q] 100s of duplicate Phone Contacts that are not the same as regular contacts

My phone dialer has some contacts repeated literally 100 times. They are not that way in the Contacts app, just the phone. Just ran a dedupe app that did find some in my Contacts, but didn't touch the phone contacts list. I did not realize they are two different lists, which makes no sense.
Would appreciate a hint as to getting rid of all the dupes, and especially if there is something I can do to make the phone contacts and "regular" contacts the same database.
Use Google account to sync your contacts and remove them from your sim card/phone internal storage.
The stock dialer app does not store contacts. Are you sure you aren't looking at the call history?

Well, now I'm really confused. Ran a de-dupe app, following which my dialer Contacts was empty, but desktop Contacts fine. Now my desktop contacts do seem to be the same as the phone, though it has 29 instances of the same person, whom I never call. I have a Google account with Contacts, but it has some that are not on my phone and the other way around. Also, when I look at Google Contacts at Google.com the right side shows no duplicates, but the left side scrolls though dozens to a few hundred of the same entry.
So, phone and Google not syncing, and Thunderbird is totally different from them both. Sure would loke to get all three the same.

Maybe you were restoring contacts from a backup app causing one to show up then google synced the one that it had before making the total 2. Then it just went exponentially higher as it went on. As in it would go from 1 each to 2 each to 4 each to 8 each etc
Check you contacts in your Gmail account.i bet that's where all the duplicates are.
there are lots of free apps in the market to delete duplicate contacts.
please try 1 of them..
Hope helps

Google Contacts, Oh My
Dove back into this today. At Google, I don't have all that many duplicate contacts (though some posters report as many as 25K; up to 2K of the same contact), but have several thousand totally empty Contact Groups! The groups are actually a person's name, anywhere from 8 to 30 times. So their name is a group name, not really a contact, and that is what is showing up on my dialer Contacts list because not a one of them actually has a phone number.
Postings at Google and all over the internet *****ing about his since 2009. No prevention, no way to clean them out. All I can find is to delete the empty folders one at a tine (no mass delete, no way to tag multiple groups); 00 times would take forever, and I guess would have to repeat weekly.
I've tried all the merging / de-dupe stuff, and they are for duplicate contacts, not duplicate groups, unless someone knows an app that would. If I could batch delete them on my phone, perhaps that would also wipe them out at Google.
Resolved!
Found two fixes (but don't know about prevention or reoccurance). There is a popular utility that deletes all groups. The text at the site where available says that it deletes all groups, cannot skip any. So the first fix: download my one group with contacts to a CSV file, delete everything, then recreate the group, empty, and bring back the CSV data. However, I found that the utility did delete everything except the group "My Contacts", which seems to be the standard group, created by GMail, which was left untouched. So the utility deletes all customer-created groups, but not the one created by Google, which is what I wanted anyway.
So here is the utility: http://blog.scrappydog.com/2009/01/deleting-4000-gmail-groups-or-repairing.html
Thanks to all.
Fixed!
Thought I posted this, but doesn't seem to be showing up, so I want to close this out with a solution for others to find. If this is a duplicate, my apologies.
For customer created groups, 1) download to a CSV file, 2) run the utility found below to delete all custom groups, then 3) make the group again and copy back the CSV file.
Here is the utility: http://blog.scrappydog.com/2009/01/deleting-4000-gmail-groups-or-repairing.html
However I wanted to keep the Google standard My Contacts, so I did the above. But after running the utility I found that it does not touch the My Contacts group (I assume Google prevents it from every being deleted), so I did not need the CSV file, just the utility to get rid of my 600 empty groups.

Instead of using a import/restore app for your contacts, you could always sync it to your google acct and it will automatically restore once you sign in during initial google setup...
this is late for my problem now all contacts are together and about 2800 i want to deletenone phone numbers contacts like whatsup and skype numbuzz and facebook my real contacts are 260 how i get them please i need answer not advise im in problem now

I have similar problem where all my contacts have been duplicated and then there are contacts with no phone no.'s. Isnt there a way to group the accounts or delete duplications?
-Phone > contacts > visible contacts > Show all
-Export all your contacts to a .csv file. (on the sd card)
-Delete all contacts: phone, sim, Google and others (tango, Whatsapp etc.)
-Log in to your Google account and import your contacts from that csv file you created. I suggest doing this on a pc.
Now, in Google, you can manage your contacts by editing, merging or marking all and deleting duplicates (if there're any)
Your phone will automatically sync all your refined Google contacts and of course Tango, Whatsapp, Viber etc. will get that contact list and everything will be synced and perfectly set up.
Then it's up to you what contacts you want to have in the contact list and whether you only want to show "phone numbers only"
Saving contacts on phone or sim card is a bit old school
I'd like to recommend, like y2quila suggested, using Google for contacts because it's reliable and painless. It's also a great time saver, especially when changing phones or in case you lose your phone or sim card. All you have to do is logging in to your Google account and voila

If your contacts are already on Google then log in to your account and mange them by marking all and deleting duplicates. If they're not on Google I suggest doing so by exporting them to a file on sd card or pc and then importing them in Google and doing as suggested.

this's what i did
i view all contacts together and then upload them to google account then locate contacts.google.com and there i edit them so i start search in my contacts for example i seach ( @yahoo ) and delete all ( @hotmail ) and delete all etc etc then for facebook contacts i hade to chose them one by one you can see them names without numbers i also select them manualy
but after all i have a problem with whatsup messenger when installing i get error about android.acore.proccess crached and after a too many retries i get it installed and even so after installed i get every 15 sec the error message so i think ur problem is def than mine so i hope u get help
and another thing managing the contacts from contacts.google.com is easier becuase when ur done deleteing non numbers accounts select them all and from option menu click on find duplicates and then remove them or search google play store for duplicate remover
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=duplicate+contacts&c=apps
