why some eBay generic batteries suck... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So I recieved one of those ebay generic batteries with the Black and white leabel yesterday.
it was marked 2600 mAh rating.
I peeled back the label to see whats underneath. Much to my surprise there was no casing! Its just a thin plastic frame around the outside. The cell inside did not even take up all the space. there was 1/8" X 1" thick strip of foam along the length.
I'm not gonna rip open my OEM battery but damn...I'm sure the Samsung isnt like that!
So after a full charge, the battery life was pretty dismal. 2 hrs of light use, no games, brought it down to 60%. then i went to sleep. in the morning it dropped to 33%. from that point i went down to zero after 1 hr of web browsing, sitting on my desk.
i'll upload pics later
EDIT: just slapped in the 2nd fully charged battery. its down to 87%. i took like 3 photos and nothing else. FAIL

not all generic batteries are suck!
i bet your generic battery is lighter in weight?
Anker battery weight the same as oem samsung battery.
i havnt used oem samsung battery after i got my Anker batteries.

I should specify ebay ones. Yeah i ordered a pair of ankers and a charger this morning. I however did see some nice looking battery cases with 3500mAh ratings, kind of like an external sleeve/backing.
however this makes the phone even longer and thicker, but not as gross looking as the 5000mAh double sized batteries. sadly, they are in the $45 range
EDIT: like this

i wouldn't buy from here tho. seems sketchy

why should they not capitalize on people who look at only price and not quality? they sell crap because people buy it, and they know that you wont pay to ship it back to China for a refund. See they can ship to the US for nothing our postal service delivers it and we get the increased postal rates. Now if you purchased from a real American business you would have a better quality battery because American sellers cant get away with that crap.

I don't find the logic in such a stereotypical post.
I bought similar...from a US seller...shipped from the US. ...same result...crap batteries
Seller did refund half of the purchase price and told me to keep the batteries.

HHHUMMMM you spend $10 and .....
complain it is a piece of crap, not sure if you know you get what you pay for in this world. Continue to go cheap and you get cheap at some point you have to spend money for quality. Not saying the most expensive is the best, but do your research and buy the best bang for the buck vice the cheapest for the buck.

go look at this freaking loser review on amazon. he spent 14.99$ for 2 batteries and charger, that is like 5$ for each item. And he get pissed off cus the charger takes too long to charge compare to samsung charger.
that is like getting a kia and get pissed off cus it' not as smooth or as comfortable compare to Mercedes!

That, and his second battery was defective? Don't be overly biased here.

I have 2 Anker batteries and they seem comparable to my OEM's. No better, no worse. Hopefully in time they will still perform.

They aren't even broken in yet.
In the end, they will still suck, but hopefully not that bad. I wouldn't try to use your camera with flash on using an aftermarket battery though
EDIT: Also some gentleman was selling OEM note batteries, wall charger adapter, and a USB cable for 20$ shipping on eBay. I picked one up, it's perfect, and a steal of a deal.

well ive been trying to cylcle them a few time turning EVERYTHING on and maxing brightness etc.
still. felt like i opened a big bag of chips and finding it only half full. Im curious if others found the same thing in "better" batteries?
EDIT: I fully knew i wouldnt be getting the full rated mAh as i just wanted cheap, backup batteries. I've bought many of these before, but never opened them till now.

These batteries have since been retired. Do yourselves a favor, buy the "Anker" brand batteries. Theyare as good as oem and cheap too. Under $20 for two including a stand alone charger with usb output and 600mA.

Andida 1600mAh vs. Seidio Innocell 2600mAh battery

So there's a phone. The T-Mobile G1. Its battery life sucks, so people have made extended batteries for it. There are two which seem to be most highly praised at XDA, the 1600mAh Andida one on Ebay, and the 2600mAh Seidio Innocell.
What i'm wondering is: which one is better for the money? i wouldn't mind the thicker back, in fact i ordered the Seidio one from Amazon and it arrived today. I do know that the Andida one is like wayyy cheaper for the battery life than the Seidio, and supposedly they're both quality...
Should I return the Seidio one to Amazon and get like 2-3 of the Andida ones? for $10 each, that's gonna save over the $50 Seidio... so i want to know if the Andidas are just as good as the Seidios quality-wise and holding charge after a few months. If you could help ASAP that would be awesome cuz i only have so much time before the return time for Amazon is up...
EDIT: so i understand that the seidio will probably last twice as long as the Andidas... but it is expensive in comparison... so getting 2-3, even 4 andida batteries is still cheaper than getting one Seidio battery. maybe in that case as 2 andida batteries outlast one seidio for less than half price the Andida is worth it? or is the Seidio actually going to last longer and thus worth the high premium?
TYVM to all who responded. i've made my choice: Andida. reasons being:
1. i am going to put the invisible shield on the g1 all around and it would looks stupid on the huge back of the seidio.
2. price difference
3. pocket feel lol
Honestly, if you already have the seido one, I'd keep it cause it will save you the hassle of switching out batteries. Also noting that it will probably last longer then 2 Andida's.
I originally purchased a 2300mah battery from some china seller for like $13 about 4 months ago. This battery is still giving me over a day and a half's worth of life and I consider myself to be a power user. I at first really like having the bigger back and made it more easier to type on the keyboard. Now I am at point where I miss using my bad ass leather belt case so I decided to go with the andida everybody was raving about. After a week of using it, I have to say I'm pretty impressed with its daily life so far. I conditioned it for the first 5 charges, I used it up all day till the power was fully drained, then charged it with the power off all night while I slept. I must say I was skeptical at first, but now I am a believer, totally worth the ten bucks.
I've got the Seidio 2600. And although thicker (pack of smokes thick), I can actually use 3G, and or WiFi all day long and not having to sweat missing a phonecall at 6:30 with a dead battery. $60 well spent IMHO
I bought the 20 dollar battery from honkong. 2300mah. The battery life is amazing, but the cover leaves a bit to be desired. I am gonna rma and just hope I got a faulty cover. Barring that, I may call seidio and see if I can just buy a cover.
anyone got any luck finding the Andida Battery for HTC Magic?
tried finding but can't seem to get any info.
Battery in sig. Makes it a lot easier to type and I can feel the vib better, audio is a little muffled, but that is corrected with meltus audio patch. Over 2 days/charge.

yeah i'm kinda in the same situation. it makes it easier to type from what i hear, but i wanted to get the invisible shield on the g1 and it would look kinda stupid on the HUGE back of the seidio cover so i guess it's the andida for me. or should i say Andidas? thinking i'll get like 2-3 to match the Seidio in battery life just in case lol.

try Amazon: they have the Seidio stuff and do sell batteries separately, maybe they'll have covers too idk
http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Electra..._15?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1257761460&sr=8-15
Yeah they sell the covers separately for 8.95, so I will go that route if this doesn't get resolved.

went to the real mugen power website, checked on the extended battery, it is out of stock, you can order but wont receive until november
ordered my seidio extended battery for the photon 4g it will arrive tomorrow. there are a few counterfeit mugen websites on the web so be careful, mugen power batteries are quite good.
as for cheapo chinese batteries you get what you pay for, many chinese batteries are labeled with exaggerated claims as to their mah rating, several of these batteries have been found to be no larger than the standard ones containing weights to make them feel authentic, never trust chinese knockoff batteries, some will also damage your device and some have been known to catch fire, saving a few bucks on a cheap chinese battery that saves you a few bucks today and ends up costing you your device.......suddenly not soo cheap anymore you know the old saying....you get what you pay for
When I first saw this post, I was all over it until I saw the extended door. I do not want any battery (or accessory for that matter) that adds size or weight to the device. With that said, for my and other members knowledge, will it fit in car dock?

As I said the REAL mugen power does not currently have the battery in stock nor have they ever, there are however phony websites claiming to have an extended battery for the photon, these are counterfeit products and not genuine mugen power batteries, there was soo much confusion and soo many soo called mugen websites that I spoke directly with the company.
They are awaiting shipping of the batteries so anyone who orders them from the genuine mugenpower site will not see their product shipped until some time in november.
Most ebay batteries are fakes, mugenpower does not sell batteries on ebay, chinese scammers sell knockoffs on ebay for cheap, they ruin your phone and catch fire, thanks but not thanks, you get what you pay for.

I find extended batteries dont add that much bulk and actually make the evo and now my photon easier to handle, most people who try an extended battery for a week tend to keep them and love them, you'll just have to find a diffferent case to carry your phone in, easily solved at best buy or other stores that sell generic cell phone cases for phones with larger screens. As noted before, this battery is extremely light compared to the evo's extended battery, I was surprised really. As for a car dock? not sure if the extended would work or not, but you could always use the regular battery for that purpose and swap out the extended when not using in the car dock. These batteries WILL get you through a day, people tend to complain about the bulk havent tried one and lets face it, your carrying extra **** now ..........another standard battery or a charger and charging it up throughout the day or in the car, extended batteries free you from that burden. if you dont like it you have 30 days to return it if you buy it from seidio, best buy also sells seidio products so the battery may show up their, the retail packaging at best buy does not bear the seidio name but they carry the seidio extended battery and several of their cases, very fancy packaging, certainly not rocketfish lol.
Hi, I saw this in eBay , will it be of any serious issue if I use this battery with my photon , I just ordered for one , thought it was a good deal coz my battery hardly lasts for 5 hours , thats it. I'm an entrepreneur and I need to make lots of calls and emails . Like 7 hours a day I need to divert my photon's number to my BB coz the fone lasts literally 5 hours . Any suggestions .,

that battery on ebay is a chinese knockoff, I wouldnt trust it, also look at the back cover, the speaker grill looks like it will obscure sound, I highly recommend the seidio extended battery for the business man who needs extra power, ebay batteries seldom live up to their claims, I have taken some apart to find that they have no more cells or fewer cells and power than a standard battery, some of these can also damage your phone, seidios battery is only 69 dollars, thats twenty bucks more than a genuine standard motorola battery and you get 3500 mah instead of 1600. when it comes to after market batteries I only trust mugen power and seidio ( beware of counterfeit sites imitating mugenpower) the seidio extended fits the phone perfectly, much better speaker grill, had to turn my volume down, mugeenpower batteries are generally good with fit and finish as well. at the official mugen power batteries site you will find that these batteries are currently not in stock, only the counterfeit sites have them "in stock" so heads up if you go with mugen, the official site says you can order but will not be shipped intil november 4th.
The Battery is on its way , I'll buy a mugen itself as u have suggested, I wont use this ebay battery then .,

According to this web site mugen falls short of it's claims often enough.

Just ordered a 3600mah from MUGENBATTERY.com. Hope that is the legit site. Price was $88.00. Anyone know of an app that will let me know how much juice is left in the extended battey? I'm running CM9 Alpha...
Battery circle might help. I've heard problems with the photon not reading battery percentage correctly. That was on the seidio battery tho. It would stay at 1% for like 5hrs. Any issues with the mugen one?

Just got my 3600 Mugen Power extended battery last night. Came 100% charged out of the box. I love this thing and can tell it is quality built. Phone actually feels better in the hand with it as opposed to with stock battery & cover. I'm running CM9 Alpha ICS (not so great with battery consumption) but my phone lasted 12 hours with heavy use. Still need to break it in too (instructions said 4 to 5 100% to 0% runs)!
Also got my battery indicator to calibrate with it as well...
Here is the trick: You must charge the extended battery to 100%, power off device, boot into recovery and then wipe battery stats and reboot phone. Leave the phone on until the battery drains totally dead and the phone shuts off automatically because of it. After this charge the phone back to 100% without removing it from the charger (took 4 hours for me) and enjoy, you're now calibrated to the extended battery.
Nice I just got the trexcell one off Amazon. Reviews were good. If it is crap then at least it was cheap lol. I over night it. Should be here tomorrow

You said it actually feels better in hand, I'm sure the added weight has to do with that. What about pocket size though? Is it a pain to get in and out of a pair of jeans? Just flashed CM 7.2 and I'm doing the whole calibrate thing. I hope what you detailed works, good thing I've got all day to play with it and run it down from 100% to 0 before I have to go out with it tomorrow.

Too good to be true?

I can't believe for any reason that all this would come cheaper than $10.

It's true.. just some cheap stuff from China lol =P but ships from the US instead.
Purchased! I can't believe that price lol. Well to anyone who is interested, that is a deal to jump on.
I bought some stuff from itrimming years ago, yes cheap, I don't remember if I bought the radio transmitter, the case for my zune, charger, extended battery or what, but something I bought "broke" and something I bought "worked" so I should it was
What's a good rating on chargers for our phones battery? mAh rating etc. I'd like to get a car charger that won't quickcharge the battery but do the same "full" charge like an AC/USB charger
I just received my order from them. I got the same one execpt without the ac charger. It all works good. The case fits so well that the rockers are almost invisible on the sides. The clear shield is cut very accurate but a little small all the way around. Having not used any other shield that may be the way they all are cut. I don't work for them as everyone seems to point out.
I got one, I figured "tough case" incase I decide to go do or be somewhere where my phone might need it instead of my "pretty" SGP Neo Hybrid. + I needed a car charger. 8 bucks ain't bad.

Haha yeah I really wanted one of those cases but when I saw this deal i couldn't resist. I'll let everyone know how it fits etc. and if the accessories work once it all comes in. I ordered yesterday, shouldn't be too far away!
Ended up buying one myself. I'm sure the chargers will break sooner or later, but for the price . . . why not?
I have the same case, just got it on Friday. I've bought accesories many times from Itrimmings on e-bay and have never been dissapointed.
For that price i couldn't refuse....Nice case by the way doesn't add weight to the phone.
I have this case from itrimmings and LOVE IT.
I got the case and a different chargers in the full package today for 8 bucks it's alright but I don't feel comfortable dropping the phone in this case

I guess now it is too good to be true.
"This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."
pics anyone?
For the $8 bucks, I'll tell you this. . . Well worth the $$ I paid. I got an extra wall charger for work, extra USB cable for the computer/lappy, extra car charger for trips.
The case, VERY NICE for what it cost (I think with everything else, the case would come out to $4) I am having some trouble getting used to the power button being harder to press, but other then that I can't say anything bad about it.
All the holes fit perfectly, it *kinda* sticks in your pocket, so its hard to pull it out while driving if needed. Other then that, I'd have to say its good enough for my needs.
A cheap case is fine, but your phone could flame up or explode using the wrong battery or charger. I think someone died once because of a pocket explosion.
Nice case for a decent price. Like the looks of it, but can't stand the feel of TPU.
Can anyone comment on whether the car charger (and wall charger) works with i777? I got a generic car charger when I upgrade the phone, but when I plug the phone into it in the car, the battery level _drops_ instead of increases! That basically makes it impossible to use the phone as GPS...
Amazing deal. Thanks!!!!
Just bought it

[Q] Are GTMax Extended Batteries Safe?

Ya they should work. I got a sketchy battery of ebay and it worked perfectly for me. As long as it's for your phone it should work. Gtmax is also a pretty trustable company so everything should work...
For anyone still considering this battery: I ordered one for my HTC Vivid and it didn't even last one day. It came with a 60% charge. I brought it up to 100% and used it for a few hours down to 55% (which was looking much better than the Vivid's OEM battery). Then, unexplicably, when I tried to bring the phone out of sleep, I got nothing, with or without using AC. The phone wouldn't turn on or charge. At first I thought my phone itself was dead until I put in the OEM and it turned on and rebooted fine.
I'm waiting for an RMA from Newegg and trying to decide if I want to exchange it or just get my money back. I might give it a second try on the hopes that I just got a bad battery, but I think, bottom line, you get what you pay for.

Any extended battery that fits using original backdoor

Looking for an extended battery that fits in the OEM battery socket, using the original backdoor.
Does anyone know a good quality battery like that?
UPDATE: Ok, after doing my research I went for Mugen's 3350mAh one.
Reasons:
- I'm an electrical engineer and I hardly believe that you can add extra 1000mAh to the same size battery as MPJ claims and sell it for 19$ - that reminds me of my experience with cheap batteries on eBay (They remove the original label from expired batteries, put a fake and sell for cheap money). There is simply no such technology out there. I bet, Texas Instruments would instantly publish such stuff on Gigaom and it would be Breaking news.
- Mugen seems to be a respected brand among tech reviewers. I found reviews about them on Pocketnow, Engadget and Android Community.
No. Not gonna happen.

Too many times these batteries bigger than Samsung put out as OEM are proven to be les than advertised or even die quicker than stock. I'm not optimistic about it but i'm definetly awaiting your review.

MPJ has a 4500 mAh factory size battery for 19.99. Original back can be used. After some research, they seem to be a very good battery company. This particular battery has 5 stars with 40+ reviews. Add NFC for 3 bucks.

Did some research also n it seems great...but i am considering the 8500mah one now.
Any "extended" battery that fits with a stock battery door will only give you a few minutes more of operation if the advertised capacity is true. I would guess it would offer you less than thirty minutes more. Not worth the money. With all the standard extended batteries I've owned, that needed a custom battery door cover, gave 1.5x more run time at the very most. More times than not, two OEM batteries lasted much longer than the extended. Unless you are willing to talk about zerolemon batteries, then I would say it's a waste of money and time. Most ratings of these extended batteries are exaggerated greatly. You're lucky if you get 1.25x more uptime when compared to OEM. The quality of OEM cells are much better than third party batteries. Zerolemon might give you close to 2x more runtime, but they still aren't as much quality and have as much life, over the long run, as an official OEM battery. To get an "extended" battery that fits a stock battery door is a waste of money. The increase of run time is hardly noticeable to make the purchase worth spending the money on.

What you say is true if only I'd get this battery and only use it, however I get it to swap with original because I don't want to alter the design of the phone. So once my original is showing low charge I swap it with the new one, so I don't think it's a waste of money.
Zerolemon is not my choice in the end - I checked them online and was not impressed. Does not look professional. I went for Mugen, because according to the feedback from respected tech sites their quality is very good.
OP you should keep in mind that these batteries are not quality tested like the original one's are, and they might catch fire and hurt you.
There have been several cases of phones catching fire or blowing up, and most of the times the reason is an unauthorized battery.
e.g. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-that-injured-18-year-old-girl-exploded-due-to-third-party-battery_id45509
If something like this does happen, Samsung will not help you or fix the phone for you, even if you are under the warranty period.
So always be cautious while using an unauthorized battery.
Just don't see how you can really cram that much add'l capacity into the same size battery for such a cheap price. Where's the trade off?
I'd like anyone who gets one of these to report back after using it for a few weeks to see how they hold up.

Lol. Its the same as every thread created in each phone's specific forum. There aren't any extended batteries the same size as OEM. It is a Pipedream.

what about the one in question? It offers 150mah extra. I know it's not too much, but if using two batteries (OEM + this one) it all comes up to 6550mah if I'm not mistaken, which is good.
Samsung spend millions of dollars on researching batteries. So these batteries can not keep goal.

So why not just spend the money on a samsung battery. No worries. No issues. No checking to see that 150mah you're not going to get. Just get another stock battery. I already have mine with charger. Was $25 after tax on samsung website but after 50% off coupon.

I don't have 50% coupon and I'm not from US. That battery will cost me more than Mugen.

You don't need to buy the charger, You can buy just the battery and swap it when the first one is dead. It's somewhere around 17-20 $ on eBay. I don't think it should be a problem ordering it where you live, or you can have it shipped to any of your friend or relative and tell them to send it to you.
