good idea

I wouldn't want to develop for this impatient community. Noobs posting like cockroaches, nobody wants to research, ETA requests from degenerates, everyone's an expert but no one knows anything.
Say what u want about Xboarder, but he hit the nail on the head when he left. It's bull**** here. Moderators backed off/out, devs don't want to do anything here. I said it before ics and s=off.. the community is slowing development, and is the reason for the lack of devs.
I don't want to really post here any more. A few of the original Amaze members stuck around, but even they are fed up. My inbox gets 5-10 PMs per day. Usually from a noob I never heard of asking me to hold his hand.
I hate to say it like this, but WAAAAY too many spoiled little kids own this phone... Hence the childish community.
Good luck getting insertcoin, or ANY working CM9/AOSP ROMs. This community is full of Kangers and themers who can copy/paste/edit files and because they spend a lot of time doing it, they think they're devs.
I mean really, most devs here are not devs, they are senior members. Not even recognized as Recognized Contributors, just senior members. Lol.

Agree with this whole heartedly.

I have spent the last year or so on this forum, researching my old phone G2 and my current phone Amaze. Just 1 month ago i finally built the courage to root & S-OFF my G2, loaded up recovery and a rom. I went detail by detail on this forum, every question i thought of i hit the search bar and walla, someone else had the same issue and it was resolved instantly. So 2 weeks ago i decided to root my Amaze and S-Off using the juopunutbear tool. I read for 2 straight days and in my modding infancy i made some mistakes, But as i returned to reading, i was able to make whatever wrong i had right. No needs to making new threads or pm'ing anyone. It's a shame people are to lazy to do the simple things that are required on this forum.
Just wanna say a huge thanks to all the helpfull users on these boards, be it devs or just random testers or noobs willing to make mistakes like myself in order to enjoy their phone to the fullest extent.

so you call all of us fake devs? just because alot of us dont know how to build from source very well doesnt mean were not real devs! its called theming, a different kind of dev. and along with theming, you make mods to roms.
you sir got your definition of a kang wrong. and people that ask eta's are just eager for the devs awesomeness to show. (it should make the devs happy that there work is at least wanted... if you dont like eta's, ignore the user)
as for pm's, just ignore it or answer it. the choice is yours lol. the community gives to you, you give back to the community. even if it means answering back to a pm. i've gotten pm's from users with questions about rooting the amaze. instead of pushing them away, i helped them.

I agree most with hasoon.... That said....
. The organisation here is atrocious...
The 5 step perfect how to walk through for any major topic is on Page 67 and never linked back to the op and takes 18 continuous hours of reading through misinformation to find... At which time you're exhausted and at roughly the highest level of doubt possible..
Roms ate not dated in the op or heading
Virtually nothing is stickied AND closed immediately
Chagelogs look like government cost justification spreadsheets...
Go look at the hd2 or even back to the HTC elf (touch)..
Ive been at this since the ipaq... This is by far the most impossible to discern community sub segment yet... I WILL agree their are a lot of princess's here... But I will ADMIT even I wont do crap yet till I DONT have to sort through 1200 posts to find what should be stickied at the top of the Page.
I post this as a a moderate between desperate nubes who don't deserve flaming AND desperate dev's sick of nubes not spending 18 hours doing what should be 5 minutes of searching.
The search function in the amaze area is almost pointless... We need 20 sticks at the top of the development forum with 3 posts then LOCK IT!!
I just re-read this and it sounds way harsher than what I wanted.. So.. Hugs and kisses to all!!..
Hope that helps!??

Yes it does. Sorry, but theming doesn't make you a true dev. Its the difference between being a medical assistant and a doctor. Sure some medical assistants, have great knowledge... but doesn't make them a doctor.
You can be a great themer, hell even the best... but it doesn't make you a dev.
If you don't understand what you are doing and you are just doing it, you're not really a developer
And this is not a bad thing. Lot of great themers, and props to them for being as such.
This of course is just imho, not trying to flame you or anyone else.

ok lets stop with this back and forth crap and get back on topic, hmm?
ive stopped posting in this forum too, cuz i was sick of all the pm's, being a lurker is much easier, so its hard to blame any of those devs for never making a rom for us. all we can do is ask nicely and hope for the best.
glacierguy, you probably wont be reading this, but if you are, i want to thank you for putting up with all the crap you had to put up with, and for your sake i hope one day we can come up with a browser extension that magnifies the search button x9000.
eclipze, thank you too, for creating speedrom and allowing me to use it as a base for my own, which i never released, because you beat me to the aosp punch although i may have possibly found a way to get aosp contacts/phone working!!! ill pm you with details tomorrow
now then, how will we go about asking all those great devs to come back? a petition? (not a come back now one, but a please come back one) i dont think multiple pm's will work, only piss em off.
ideas?

or maybe we could start a thread and pm them and have them post in it?
or maybe i just posted this to bump the thread? im not too sure yet...

I guess we lost our best dev

Well, I agree with you about nobody wanting to do the legwork of research, and also I see a lot of jerk-faces..
and in no way am I trying to argue, you've been a cool guy, one of the few members still here that I respect..
..but in defense of those "not devs", it is really hard to tell the difference. Where/how does a dev start? I didn't really like the community of my last phone, the vibrant, and it had plenty of development so there was never much point for me to trying to learn with that-- but the amaze needs devs, and with the release of ICS on a phone I find to be awesome, I finally want to learn.
Thus far all I have released is just a remix of other people's work, and one jar file barely modified to get beats to work-- but I am trying to find challenges and a good starting point for going from a "not-dev" to something more. I mean, the people who ARE developers had to start somewhere right? The hard part is figuring out where/how.
Right now I am trying to learn how to either: make a proper port(which requires some pretty heavy knowledge to properly integrate kernels, bootclasspaths, etc), or contribute to aosp(actually build it, fix it, make changes to git, etc), port something like leedroid tweaks(requires lots of compiling/decompiling, modification of everything, etc).. I'm just trying to figure out which would help give me the best experience to help me move on to even BIGGER things.
I guess I'm just saying that because not everyone is just trying to kang other people's work, but has to use that as part of the process for getting to something more their own! I had no doubt I could put together some awesome flashables that would be 100% problem free(based on other work, with proper credit given), that is the only reason I've offered it, but I am trying to take that next step!
As far as leaving these forums and xboarder.. I get frustrated by these forums too, but I can't say I can respect many of xboarder's actions. I know he is young, and probably 99% of the issues I see are related to that- but if I learn something that I think others could use I would share it. If I could work openly with other people I would. If the community would be better served by me doing something WITH others I would do it in a heartbeat. But he liked to get offended by people who didn't matter, he wouldn't set aside his differences to work with other people doing the same thing because he would rather prove he can do it without them-- the way he was trying to do things is just as counter productive(IMHO) to the "open source" community as all of these noobs clogging up the pipes that are chasing away members who WANT to contribute!
I'm curious about two devs who had enough money donated to them that they could buy an amaze(and maybe even more), who released ONE rom, and haven't been seen/heard from again.. I didn't have much to contribute(broke ass college student), but I was looking forward to seeing them do more work.
And to someone who posted before me talking about the lack of organization- I agree fully- I think this is a BIG reason why so many noobs are clogging up threads and inboxes-- but isn't that usually solved by good contributors and a good mod?

New Dev Team - RECRUITING NOW!!!

What's up fellow Evo 3Ders??
Let me first start off by introducing myself. I'm BThomas22x, and up until today, I Developed exclusively for the Samsung Epic 4G. This has obviously changed though, because today I got myself an Evo 3D, and will now be Developing for this device as well. If you guys need any credentials for anything I've done, feel free to go to the Epic 4G Dev section and just look me up. I've done numerous things for the community, such as: porting Ubuntu, Developing ROM's, Developing Kernels, and countless contributions to Mods and helping other Developers with their ROMs, and/or Kernels. I actually have a friend that came to the 3D as well, Sniperkill, if anyone is familiar with him, feel free to ask him as well. Now, onto the reason for this thread.
Since I will be developing for the 3D now as well, I'm going to need a team. I prefer to have people that actually have experience, however, experience is not necessary. To be completely honest, if you don't have any experience, I will personally work with you to start you out on themes or something simple. Also, as of right now, I do NOT have a team name. My team is Team Viper for the Epic, but seeing as how someone already has that team name for the 3D, I will have to think of something else. Once the team is created, we will, as a team, decide on a name, unless I think of something really cool before then lol . Anyways, If you are interested, you can reply to this thread, or you can shoot me a PM. Give me a little something you've done, or if you have no experience, let me know and we'll work on getting you started.
Thank you all, I appreciate the time you took to read this. Feel free to hit me up any time, even if you're not interested in joining, and you just have a question. I believe in having a strong community spirit, and maintaining a drama free forum. There were some issues in the Epic forums with people being demanding or just causing drama with the few Dev's there were, so hopefully this community is a bit more peaceful lol. The only rules that I have for the team are actually really simple. They're the same rules for the entire XDA site. If you use someone else's work, give them credit, as well as please be respectful of other Developers as well. This is a community, so let's work together and make one of the best phones on the market even better.
Thanks again guys,
BThomas22x

The force is strong within this one. Anyhow, my knowledge in regards to android development is poo, but I am thinking of self teaching myself.
Wouldnt mind helping out. I'm pretty good at theming, just learned how to make skins, and learning new things. Also know how to make splash screens.

I'm actually quite interested now. You seem like a great guy who's really willing to help out the less knowledgeable, I have a feeling this might be really cool to do
I am interested but my knowledge of android isn't that great however I am self taught computer builder/fixer and I have programed in Basic, C++, Perl and others probably not worth mentioning all self taught though (Right now my programing skill is weak as I haven't done any in 10+ years) but I am a super fast learner and would love a little guidance to give some back to this great forum.
I will happily join. I'm not much if a developer, but I want to learn more. I have designed websites and could learn rom theming, and with time can learn devoloping.
P.s. are u going to stick to snake names for the team name?
Sent from my 3devo...s-off was found lurking in the girls room, tricky?
I know very little and when I say very little I mean nothing lol. But I am willing to learn. If that counts. My profession is in It and system admin. Also I run a Pc repair business on the side. Self taught all the way. Only been dealing with android for a little over a year and a half. Started with my hero and now I'm on the 3d. If your team can use a guy Like me then I'm all in. I got time and dedication. Figure I can sleep when I die.
Locked & Loaded
I'll help, I guess. I know nothing fancy about developing, but I have made a theme and an app.
PM me If you want a noob with (possible) potential.
I dont know crap, but im bored with alot of time on my hands and would love to learn about cooking up Roms. Count me in.
I Haz 3D!
I've screwed around with kernels, ROMs, and such, but never actually built and flashed one. I'm still learning from resources on this site and elsewhere. I would love to help you out, and learn alot in the process. PM me if I could be of use. Or, [email protected]

HEY BT!!! It's awesume to see you developing over here for the E3D!!
Let me tell you guys this, BThomass22x is a VERY talented developer! If any of you know, he was the chief developer for viperROM for the Epic 4g. His Roms were FAST, stable, and very well themed! A VERY talented developer!
It's good to hear from you again BT!!

I am very intresting and would love to join! I dont have much knowledge but I am a quick learner
If you still need help, I'm down. I started on the OG EVO and built my own roms and themed them too, as well as compiled my own AOSP rom for it. I don't have much knowledge with Sense 3.0 yet but got a base rom last night to start ripping up and customizing. Also, I'm ridiculously keen on Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, so I could help with making sigs for the team or making cool wallpapers for the ROM.
It would take me a while to catch on to customizing ROMs for Sense 3.0 simply because I'm used to the OG EVO but would be happy to help.

And another one's gone

Looks like the children at xda have run off another dev, Nils is gone. I'll be glad when I can get rid of this phone, I'm so tired of all the rudeness and childishness.

just saw it. quite upsetting; nils is the man. his work was always quality stuff. after being away dealing wtih the nexus and s3, and then coming back to the rezound development section, all i can say is holy balls. wtf is going on there? seriously, there's like 238948923 new threads of these noname "developers" releasing stock roms based on the OTA....there's like 50 different versions of the same thing. what the hell? annoying.

This is a truly a sad day for the Rezound.
I think Nils mistook a lack of downloads for satisfaction with what he has already achieved.
I have been running his Sense 4 v2.6 for several weeks. It's so good as is, but I think many of us were waiting to download his next update.
Nils, If activity has been down, it's only because we love what you've already done, and we're enjoying your Rom as is.
Many want to try AOSP and CM9 and all that, and that needs to be ok. But many of us LOVE Sense, just like you, Nils. And we love what you have brought to the Rezound.
If you need to go, I get it. But please don't think you are unloved here. This place will be lonely without you. Thank you for everything you've done for this community.
Please keep us posted if you have a change of heart, or move on to a different platform. Take care, sir. And thank you again for all you've done.

This is sad. I ran several of nilsp Roms. Too bad that he is leaving. His Roms were always as close to bug free as any custom ROM I've ever used. Only changed to try new ones.
He will be missed.

Well said.
I, too, was anxiously awaiting an update to an already great ROM. There are only two Sense 4 ROM that work reliably with all the functions that I need to work and that don't feel "dated", Business Sense and OnE XxX. I know many people are charmed by the snake but I've seen bug reports in that thread that I haven't seen or experienced in the other two. In fairness, maybe I should try it before I judge it but since I've been running Nils ROM I've haven't felt compelled to try anything else.
You think he left because of no activity in his threads? Read his posts more closely, I don't think that is the whole story.
As far as no activity, read the other threads. Most posts are because this or that doesn't work. You don't see as much of that here because people just download it and go. Then his thread gets buried because of the sudden proliferation of ROMs on the new leak and the recent developments in ASOP and that makes it worse. There seem to be quite a few dev wannabes in here now who are enjoying a little bit of attention. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that there are new people getting into ROM building and I know all of them have much more experience and expertise than I do. However, some of them need to learn some manners and have some respect for the experienced devs (maybe it's not so much the new devs as it is their fan base).
Just an opinion from some one watching from the sidelines.

AGREED!
I ran both of his ROMS and although I'm not running one of them now, I was EAGERLY awaiting his next release for either one of his versions and would have switched back in a heartbeat. His work is always rock solid and he is one of the most responsive developers out here. Nils, as a regular subscriber I wanted to to say THANKS again for your hard work. Hope to see you soon!
He states that there are more than enough developers, and lack of interest in his roms, while also stating that certain devs were not thanking him for his mods. I think your claim of, oh i am so tired of the childishness and rudeness is bogus and you should be flamed for starting a thread like this. If you are gonna be mad at anyone be mad at the devs who did not thank him. If you want to cry publicly you have the right to do so but understand your broad statement should be more focused on those who did not thank him instead of people being childish.
Isn't it funny how just a few months ago the complaint(s) were about a lack of devs, and now you can't go through the 1st page in the dev section without tripping over a new ROM. Not saying it's bad, good, or other; just an observation. I did not run NilsP's roms but I didn't have to, to know they were solid, with a reputation like he had. It sucks when any established dev leaves.
Thanks for all your work, Nils.

If I offended you, I apologize. Yes, it is a broad statement based on what I've read in many posts in many threads on xda, especially the Rezound section, not just on Nils leaving. People using his work and not even acknowledging him is a part, and I think a big part, of what I'm talking about. There's not much cordiality left in these forums, people are too quick to dismiss and demean (yes, I think that is childish and rude as is not thanking some one when using their work). Look at what happened to Micromod when he posted his leaked OTA.
Did I just want to rant a little? As some one who reads much but posts very little, yes I did. Am I upset? I wouldn't say I'm upset. In the grand scheme of things this is more of just a mild annoyance.

I didn't mean to trash ViperROM, I was just saying I read about bugs that I didn't have in the other two. From what I've read it also has more features than the other two.
And nils was one of the only "cool"] ones. Smh.

I am not debating that childishness occurs, I am just stating that there is no evidence from what I can find that, that's why he left. He states that devs were not thanking him for his work. I have always admired NILS as he is one of the most amazing devs I have ever come across. I too would be pissed if people couldnt do something as simple as give me credit for my work that I had put hours, days and weeks into it. Am I sad to see him leave, hell yes. I had talked to NILS way back in the day when I first got my Rezound and he is as nice as they come. He will be missed more than he knows.

I think having new devs is great, it just seems that some of the established devs aren't being treated with the respect they deserve. I may be way off base here - it could just be the natural progression of the developement community. This is just my opinion on what I've observed and I don't see everything and I don't know what goes on in private.
All I should have said is Nils, I wish you the best but I hope you change your mind and come back. There are plenty of people here who appreciate and respect your work.

Ooc, what respect should they be getting differently? Everyone appreciates and clicks thanks etc. And they became xda rock gods. Then some moved on and became humble and nice to new phones.. Then the cycle repeats. Not starting anything, just genuinely curious.

Thank you XDA, for making me what I am today

Yes yes, this is a life story thread, but I want to chronicle how far we have come in the last few months, and the incredible teamwork this community has.
Around march, I got my Galaxy Player for the first time. With the galssy eyes of a techno geek unwrapping his new gadgets, I tore open the box, and beheld my shiny new toy, something, which I did now know at the time, that would take me far beyond my wildest dreams of technical success. Of course I bricked it withing the first 3 hours, "accidentally" deleting ALL the dalvik control settings from build.prop, and not having adb installed at the time, or even knowing what the heck Odin was, spent a merry 7-8 hours trying to get my prized posession back to it's stock state. I probably repartitioned and flash over 50 times that night, which was also when I flashed the INTL bootloader off of zaclimon's thread (little knowing that I would have a healthy partnership with him in just a few months), and thet next morning, I was back in business.
Of course I crack-flashed ALL the rom's there were for the 4.0 at the time. Klin's klassic, steve's, rooted stock, whatever I could find. I just couldn't help but feel slightly depressed that there wasn't really much of a dev presence for my new device, and I was more the enviously eyeing the 5.0's ICS builds. So I lurked for a few months, pondering whether I should even activate my dormant XDA account, scared that I was just too much of a noob to actually get help.
One day though, I took the plunge. I decided that I was going to try and get my feet wet in this "xda" thing, and maybe browse general, helping the occaisonal user in distress. Just 1 day later, I posted my first contribution thread, without even having 10 posts! The tweak guide for the Player, how proud I was of it. All the nice tweaks I had enjoyed on my TF and had discovered for my Gplayer, all there for my own personal quick applying.
2 days after that, I began asking klin1344 about ICS, as reading through some threads, I thought I heard some rumours about a secret underground build that may have been surfacing, as well as whether or not SGS (what is that?) tweaks can be used on our player. He pleasantly responded with the fact that no, there was no ICS, and he had never considered using SGS tweaks. Would I like to be his dev partner?
I will not lie to you, this FLOORED me. Little me, the noob who had maybe had is Gplayer for 2 weeks, and barely knew his way around the terminal, being asked by a dev to help him? Easily one of the proudest moments of my XDA career. I signed up immedately, we began discussing, and ended up coming to a mutual agreement that partnering may not be the best idea, as we both had differing opinions on what should constitute a ROM. He was going to let me support Klassic (my favorite rom), and he was going to start a SGSII themed rom (which turned into ICY fusion.
With joy in my heart, I learned the basics I needed from him (such as DD) and began applying all the tweaks I had from my tweaks thread into this rom. I decided to rename it "stratusrom", and include multiple releases. One beta, one weekly, and one stable. This was nixed completely as soon as I learned how hard devving could be, and after a few false starts that long time forum members will remember, and renaming it "stratusrom" and eventually "etherealrom" (hence the celestially-named projects that I am related to, if you guys wanted to know), I began devving. Not much happened here, I released a few iterations, guiding hands such as daniel644 and the dev zaclimon provided their amazing help to the poor little dev who could (me), trying to make a decent rom. At one point, I had a falling out with Klin (whcih I am sure most of you remember, that was a scary night for me, the little dev, being whaled on full-force by a senior-class dev, with both us us threatening to remove our work), but let's not dig up old bones. Long story short, I rethemed my rom, made it not-klassic, and just worked on it until about mid-july.
In the meantime, I was releasing a whole slew of threads documenting my research. Who knew that SGS roms could be easily ported, and that rom creation wasn't scary? I had a blast finding all of these things out, and even gained a small following during this time, as most development had died off, with klin never really getting his heart back into 4.0 development, tdm leaving, and Balor leaving his kernel for good.
Then it happened. I decided to spearhead an ICS initiative (as at the point, while I didn't even know what a compiler was, thought I was knowledgable enought to start something like that), to finally get it working. Ah, the good old days. Me, neyodmiun and zaclimon, swapping ideas, with the occaissonal user popping in to offer advice or to comment on our progress. Around this time, I also began getting support questions, and as I answered them nicely, and genuinely tried to help them beyond the normal "find my help post" and no response afterwards, and ended up getting a reputation as being someone who wouldn't blow off noobs (not that I am accusing anyone of doing so, but I know that some devs do not take users seriously at all). zaclimon offered up the idea of hiring a freelance dev, and that was ultimately accepted as our plan. Enter Oisis.
This is where most of you guys will know me from. With Oisis on board, we booted ICS on august 13th, and were in business after that. I formed a team aptly named "TeamSuperNova", and got to work learning what the heck GCC was, and where the vendor folder went. What's github again?
Not much to tell from here, as the rest is just history.
I want to thank everyone on XDA for making this journey possible. From klin1344, and zaclimon, to goldflame, and all the other users to have taken on the excellent role of support, so that we can work on what really matters, I think I, no WE have accomplished what we wanted. While our entire community is very small, we are all united as a TEAM, working together like clockwork. Some new user has an issue with cm9? The support team is on it right away, and we normally have their issues sorted out in a few hours. Someone wants to start development? Zaclimon, me, or any of the other devs quickly pop in and give them some advice on where to start, and some resources to use. Any PM that I get, however noobish or "silly" it seems, I answer, and most of the time I actually get it resolved. So don't be afraid to speak up and give your opinion or ask for help. That's what we all are here for. To help, and contribute, as much as we can.
Thank you XDA, users, and everyone for making all of this possible. Now that my speech is over, feel free to put up your own personal story, or just discuss.

Well quite honestly, I just picked it up here and there. Devving isn't really something you "pick up overnight", or read a how to on. Essentially the best way to learn how to dev, is to do something horrible to one of your devices, and then try to fix it . I can't tell you how much I learned when I bricked my player for the first time. What's Odin? You mean cwm installs WITH the kernel? Just take you're time, try and Google anything you may have questions about, and ask devas anytime you have a problem (hopefully in pm). Other than that, my ROM creation guide may help you get started (although I really need to clean it up), and once you feel confident enough to start compiling, pop me a pm, and I will be happy to guide you through any questions you may have.

Thanks for the compliment! I HATE it when devs get a superiority complex over their users, and basically refuse to talk to them/help them, or do so in an extremely condescending way, which hurts the community more than it helps, especially a small one like this.
To start revving, just refer to my response above, and pop me a pm whenever you need any help .
I've hard bricked my Player twice and I guess I know how to recover from any situation, I know all the things and headaches associated with bricking a player and such. But thanks for your reply!

Depends of the guys, i really appreciate the work of developers, but in 1 month, i see like 4 or 5 updates, with annoying updates like, NEW KEYBOARD, CHANGED BUILD.PROP and others, but nothing with NEW KERNEL, if possible get 3 or 4 developers to do 1 thing!! Or Stable kernel only in 2014 :/

A few questions:
There are not many devs left here. Do you think it is a good idea criticize our work like that?
Are you saying you don't want any updates unless it is a new kernel?
Have you considered trying to build a kernel yourself instead of complaining?
Just asking.....
I heard that the devs working on porting the XOOM kernel have progressed. Hopefully in due time...
It will, it's under development.

What exactly is the point of threads like this? People around here are getting just too good at nothing but whining and complaining. FYI, opening a thread like this is exactly the same thing as asking for ETAs, and I really hope everyone knows you NEVER ask for ETAs here. Instead of littering the forum with useless whiny adn wallowy threads like this, you could have helped the development efforts yourself. But no, people would rather just sit around idly and complain and whihe.
If you want a stable and fully functional ICS/JB right away, get a different device. If you want it in some undefined time, have patience, be supportive and QUIT ASKING. Better yet, instead of just waiting, take initiative and MAKE IT HAPPEN YOURSELF.
Hey Guys, I've reported this thread. I've got fed up with threads like these. Only asking for ETAs, growing up a bad mood... not throwing good vibes at all. We need patience, not ETAs. If you need a kernel so bad, then you've gotta have patience. That'll do the trick

wow, you've reported this thread?! all the guy was asking was how things are progressing. After the initial excitement of the ics leak there hasn't been anything of very much. He said he appreciated the work of the people who put the time and effort into trying to keep our phone as current as possible. Who do you think you are Ravilov labeling someone as whiny and wallowing (although just what you think the poster is wallowing in is beyond me - he asked a simple question). As for your pathetic 'no one asks for eta's' comment... I can only assume you've been spending too much time here.
Thankfully, the question was answered bu Syl and takemeouttt.
This is a forum, where people ask questions and, hopefully, get civil and informative answers.
1) New Keyboard -- Because people wanted to try the new keyboard with 'Swype'-like features.
2) build.prop edits -- Because different people are having different issues with the ICS roms. Devs are pretty much taking stabs in the dark to see which combination helps which device. (tegra part?)
3) Xoom Kernel Port -- Is compiled, but will be a while before everyone can test it and/or have a stable release (source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941654)
As for your original question, there's a strong possibility we might, but don't expect it anytime soon. If it was that easy, Motorola would have done it at the same time they did it for Xoom. Remember, developers might also upgrade to newer devices. Would seem pointless to develop for a device--that even the manufacturer abandoned, when you have a shiny new device.
The current "team" of developers ARE working "together". In my experience, it's hard to collaborate on something with another person remotely, but they seem to be managing it. Going by the thread, there are at least 2 active developers. Might be others who aren't updating in the thread, but are simply contributing by email and/or other ways?
This thread may or may not be pointless. I think if it gets closed at this point, it might help someone trying to find a simple answer without going through 1000's of posts in the development section.

I think that the community is simply misguided.
There is not a single post which clearly explains that we hit a brick wall regarding battery life.
Not knowing that, it IS frustrating to see a "new update!!" as the title of the ROM post and find only minor graphical changes inside.
There is a simple way to solve that, we need a sticky with an explanation regarding the entire Atrix ICS issue.
It should have a brief explanation that the ICS and JB roms that we have now are incomplete and generally suffer from graphical issues due to the old kernel constrains and even though we have a leaked version of the original ICS kernel, it is only barely functional and in most cases far from being a daily driver.
It will save a LOT of browsing (for me at least) since I check almost daily on the progress in the development section and it is quite a hassle to browse through all the latest comments for a clue of any changes or new ideas of how to make the rom work better and it will inform all those that don't bother checking and simply end up disappointed in the new changes.
Creating such a post is easy and I can do so if you'll approve of my idea, but the major point is to make it sticky and up to date, even if the update is simply updating the title just to show that no progress regarding kernel development/ ICS implementation for the Atrix was made.
I have no problems updating it either.
I adore the dev community here and all of you guys.
It's nice to see optimism where other developers and testers would just give up.
I love you guys and keep up the nice job. :highfive:

For newcomers to this amazing community

First off, my apologies if a similar thread has already been posted. I have never seen one. I'm creating this thread to try to stress the importance of reading the OP's and entire threads of any ROM or MOD or any topics for that matter. Many questions that you may have, probably have already been answered within those threads. Redundant questions clog threads and hamper development discussion. Even if it may take a bit of time to read an entire thread, it will benefit everyone involved if you do. Our development community is incredibly rich with talent and skills and we, the users and flashers are most grateful to the developers for the time and knowledge they share with us. So please, keep threads clear by carefully reading instructions and trying to find any issues you may be having listed within the thread itself. Reading is beneficial, trust me. Again, if a similar thread has already been posted, I ask that the moderators remove this. I've just seen way too many questions posted repeatedly in all the threads I follow. After all, you will increase your own skill level by reading about all issues, even if you aren't currently experiencing it. Thanks to all who keep our devices updated and interesting.

Why don't we start worrying about us and not them? They don't want to deal with XDA anymore ATM so just leave them be. Don't mention their names just pretend that this is a new device and we ourselves have to figure stuff out on our own. Got a question? SEARCH&READ, can't find it? Post a thread in Q&A. Mentioning them and talking about them isn't going to solve the cancer/problems you guys are. Not everyone is a problem just you guys make everything a problem. Try looking for your problem for a good 10 minutes on Google or XDA's Search Function. Not that hard people. I believe this is XDA-DEVELOPERS not the discuss about off topic things and what not. You got something useful post it here. If not don't post at all or if the thread have a Q&A post it there. If you got a question...again READ&SEARCH and don't ask it in here. If any ROM thread has a Q&A post it there. I think their problem with you guys is that most of us are just users and don't contribute anything and act like we care what's going on all you guys do is ask questions without even researching. Don't PM for your problems search it up or PM someone who isn't a Dev. For example say Corporal_modernback (lol example here) is the dev of the Rom you're using. DON'T PM THEM FOR LITTLE QUESTIONS LIKE "HEY HOW DO YOU FIX THIS TOGGLE OR HOW DO YOU GET YOUR PHONE TO DO TRIANGLES" PM THEM if you got a useful thing that they might need. If not them ask someone like me. I'm tired of seeing all this goodbye bull****. No offense to Captain and Sin but this is getting out of the line and YOU GUYS (THE PUBLIC/THE USERS) SHOULD START DOING S*** AND STOP BEING SPOILED PANSIES AND STOP EXPECTING **** TO BE DONE FOR YOU.
Thing is the devs here have lives. They're not robots on the computer that make these cool roms just for you.
Just my two cents. Feelings are welcomed.

Hahaha I thought that too. But I'm not looking for a thread.

I'd like to think I'm not too much of a noob since I'm not "scared" of technology & modifying things I "shouldn't be touching". I can't count how many times I tried to dual-boot Windows and Linux, and completely scrap the former for the latter (fun times)...........................but I'm still trying to figure out what's the point of flashing a kernel
But even being a noob to cell phones and rooting/flashing them, XDA is laid out well enough for someone that can at least understand new technological things quickly to be able to know what's going on with their phone and what they can/can't do and should/shouldn't do to it to achieve what they want.

A custom kernel will unleash extra features for your device. First thing I flash is a custom kernel

n some cases the documentation is very wild and very on-the-go. Documentation is built over time and usually doesn't start off very well and can put-off certain users. Though that's not the problem.
What users need to understand that these development ROMs are not what you'd call a real release build. You're essentially testing everything that comes out... and that means it will have bugs. These ROMs, until "stable," are not plug and play type solutions. You are there to work with it and fix things. It always happens.
Change these user's mindset because that is the root cause. They think they're getting something that will be 100% what they want. It's not.

Honestly, unless it greatly improves battery life, I'm not exactly concerned with the other benefits lol. I'm not necessarily needing an overclocked CPU.
However if a kernel makes a 4.4.x ROM more stable, then please let me know so I can flash one immediately

I'm not sure that you even understand why the kernels improve battery life. Custom kernels have much much more to bring to the table that simple overclocking, which is also something that most people do not do anymore since we don't have many single core decides these days.
Most kernels focus first on increasing performance. But by getting good performance, you get optimization from the processors, which results in better battery life (Intellidemand governor, anyone?).
If you want to greatly improve battery life, underclock your phone. You don't need a custom kernel to do that. But your phone will certainly suffer the speed differential that ours with custom kernels will not.

Agreed too many people think all a custom kernel does is oc the the cpu. They don't understand the features they provide. S2w, USB fast charge, better cpu governors(better battery life), better io schedulers, build optimizations, etc...

Ok, back on topic for a sec...
I have been holding my tongue and just sitting back watching all of the shenanigans that have been going down between Dev's and Noobs both. Honestly, I'm going to say that both parties are to blame in some fashion. (More on that in a second...)
As you can see my post count is not very high here. I have lurked...and read...and learned...and flashed...and broke things...read some more...and fixed even more things. With everything I have learned from this "amazing" community, I have been able to make my EVOLTE do some really truly amazing things. Some people have gone out of their way to help and make sure that the XDA-experience is a good one. Some, on the other hand have not... That happens with every forum in existance. There will be jerks, trolls, noobs, fools, and people who just wont use the search function, RTFM, etc.
There are "other" forums available that have a lot of info about Android development, none IMHO that happen to be as organized and concise as XDA. The down-side is that XDA has gotten a reputation for being full of pretentious as$holes. We've all heard it at least once... "XDA sucks, no one helps anyone, they hate noobs, etc." I digress...
My experience has been lukewarm at best. I, for one, know that I know almost nothing about dev'ing. I would love to learn more but between age, having a family, work (2 jobs BTW), I probably won't be able to just "RTFM" for dev'ing. Another thing that most don't care to think about is that maybe some of us that are uninitiated WOULD LIKE TO LEARN MORE. But AFAIK there are no threads specifically for EDUCATING us that want to learn more about how these devices work. (I'd love to see some)
Now, I may cut a bit deep here but here goes... This topic probably has been brought up due to the questions popping up all over the Sense5.5 dev thread. I think I may know why since I watched it unravel. When the thread was created, there was of course the standard disclaimer, (Broke it? Your fault, not mine) the download link, and the normal reserved posts for extra documentation.
Aside from that, the Q & A that is now posted, was copied from another thread AFTER I was shamed by @Sinistertensai for simply asking a question that WAS NOT posted in the thread YET!
Thankfully @FinZ28 and others created a thread just for Q/A. A thread I have yet to post in because I get all of my questions usually answer by searching threads. (That would also explain my tiny post count...)
In closing, I just want to say I know the Dev's are busy! @chubbzlou @Captain_Throwback @Sinistertensai @FinZ28 This hard work is not unappreciated in any way guys and THANK YOU!
I would love to learn more about how you all work your magic on these phones. I just don't want to get treated like a prick for asking a dumb question. The dumbest questions are the one's that are never asked.
2 pennies.

People all over XDA pm me with question on how to port and ask for advice I am more than willing to help out anyone if they want to learn. I don't mind answering question about anything just I do get annoyed when ppl ask the same question that has been answered many time in the thread or question about issue because they are coming from cm rom to sense rom and flash with out wiping and complaining about FCs. I agree us Dev's do take it a little too far but ppl need to understand that we get frustrated about non sense. We do this for fun but it's starting to feel like and old toy that out live it's use.
If you are willing to learn and have sometime pm with any question you like.

There are numerous threads in the xda general section and also if you use Google many times it will point you to a different device forum on xda that will have a "how to" thread that had nothing to do with that specific device. There is more info out there than you could possibly read.
It's just not all in this devices forum. Which it doesn't need to be.

We mods are always here. While we may not answer in a timely fashion, suitable for some, we too are only human and get to peoples reports ASAP. Please always use the report button when you feel the ground comming out from beneath you. @FinZ28 is one of XDAs shinning examples of a Recognized Contributor. he gained his stripes by helping. Without the RC group, there would be much more chaos then what you have encountered.

I'm sorry you feel this way. It's a rarity of Devs (now a day) to determine the capability of any user.
Now consider the average 10 - 15y/o that comes in and demands attention (this of course never happens) and the end run is, had they read the slightest, they would have found an answer. Sadly today, this is the norm on XDA! That is what our Developers deal with.
While some Devs can be harsh or down right immature, we are here to try and keep the peace between the fractions.
And let me end with these parting words... Do not take offense to this, but see the humor XDA back in the 4 million member realm
