Youtube lag issue - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi there,
Just got my galaxy note yesterday and ive noticed that certain youtube videos gives lag in the transition. Is this normal for stock rom for this device? My nexus s had no problem before and my transformer prime runs everything smoothly for youtube.
Also when i do a benchmark test... During the fps test, it only shows like between 30 - 50 mostly in the 30s... My tfp gives constant 60 fps on the test. What is the average for stock rom?

Your Nexus S had no problems with video play by because it was displaying less pixels than the Note.
I'm assuming you're on a stock Note with Gingerbread. Root and update to ICS if you want smooth video playback. I had the same problem with my Note until I moved onto 4.0.3 and now 720p videos have no stuttering whatsoever.

Thanks a bunch for the tip! Much appreciated

The bitrate of the videos are probably encoded at a high rate and maybe some videos have a bitrate too high to stream smoothly over you connection. I have had the same problem with a few videos but its not a big deal to me. If you have the problem when a video starts playing pause the video and let it load til you see the transparent red line get farther down the timeline.

this laggy transition only happens on youtube. When i play hd video files saved on the phone there is no lag whatsoever runs smooth like all my other devices. Only youtube is the issue... Im not sure if i should return my note because my dad got one as well the same time as me and his note has this issue as well. ..

Forgot to add that issue only comes up on fullscreen landscape mode. When it plays on non fullscreen then it plays smooth on youtube.

Does anyone still have this problem on their note? My note has this problem and it is really annoying (using stock version). Viewing in desktop version does not have the inconsistency with audio to image, but it does stutters a little.

The problem drastically improved after installing ice; although its still persistent.
I believe I saw somewhere somebody on android apps and games posted a modified YouTube which solved this problem-although I didn't try it. Ill keep a look out

Can we scroll through 1080p movies?

Hi everyone,
Been happily testing out my newly arrived sgs 2, everything working as they should...well, almost
Thing is, when I played some 1080p movies encoded with h.264, they played just fine, but I seem to never be able to jump through the movie, namely, the movie will only play from beginning to end, but no jumping in between...i think this is really weird, since it's working with all other movies with lower resolution... So I'd like to know if it's common, or only just me, and if the latter, how can I fix it. Thanks

I can scroll/seek fine on 1080p video. Try another video player.
Likewise, seeking working fine for me.

How powerful is the GS 2? Must see

This is impressive no mather how you look at it!
Not really a must see, the thread title pretty much sums it up. Did you really have to make the video over 6 minutes long?
Made me motion sick in 15 sec flat....you need to learn how to hold the camera still
Why does it sometimes say that the videos I try to play "are not optimized for mobile"? These videos stutter like hell. Is that caused by flash player on my phone or is it just the video or site?

Haha that is great. I now wonder about 4 x 1080p.

I think that means YouTube hasn't converted them to the right format to play fluidly on mobile devices. This would imply that what you're seeing on your SGS2 is a different video file to what Mr Average Joe would get on his laptop - YouTube still has to help the mobile players more than the desktop players!
i love watching 4 videos at the same time
The limit is about playing GoldenEye 007 on N64oid... that really stresses the device

I seriously hope that is sarcasm......
nice but i will never watch four video's at the same time
The best money i ever spend on a device was SII!
Awesome. Thanks Pachi.
I'm proud because I'm own this phone. I think is powerfull phone at the moment. Also I did some picture today with phone and with sony 12 mp camera. Just to compare, very nice picture took with phone. Before this phone I had htc desire hd and optimus 2x, both 8mp camera. But picture on sgs2 is much better. This is my opinion.

Note 2 Video stutters- S3 does not!

Hi all...
I have a Note 2 that is giving me some difficulty with video. I am playing back blu ray rips dirrectly made from makemkv. These MKV files play back perfectly smooth on my S3 using bsplayer, but when I am using the same micro sd card with the same mkv file in my note 2 I see what appears to be slight stuttering. About every 5 seconds or so the screen gets just a bit fuzzy for just a milisecond.
My understanding is that the note2 has a faster processor and should be at least as capable as the s3 with regards to playing back video. Again, I am using the same app player, same sd card, and same file and there is not stutter on the S2 but there is with the Note2.
Any suggestions? Maybe a faulty phone...
Edit. Both note2 and s3 are stock.
Have you checked to see how much free memory is available on both devices before the video is played?

Yes, I have cleared memory on both S3 and Note2 and they both show about 500-600 MB being used. I have uninstalled, and then reinstalled BSplayer on both. The S3 plays 1080p mkv files flawlessly using the hardware decode option, and the Note2 stutters doing the same. I can get the Note 2 to play the video smoothly using the Software decode option, but the color tint constantly changes within scenes of a movie.
I downloaded Quadrant standard app to see how well the phone is performing. My Note2 is getting a score of around 6,100-which seems typical for a stock version. The S3 is getting around 5,800.
Doesnt make sence to me why the Note2 is struggling to play video and the S3 is not.
different phone, same result
I went and switched the Note2 for another one at Verizon. The new one displays the exact same behaviour, so it must be something with the Note 2.
Cant believe that my S3 is able to play 1080p mkv rips (no conversion using makemkv.) with no problem, yet the Note2 cannot. Also did some benchmarking specifically targeting the gpu. The S3 beats the Note2 in most of them....Go figure!!

I haven't had any stutter playing them with mxplayer. Plays identical to how they play on my GSIII. 1080P.mkvs that is.

I use mxplayer flawlessly as well. Not all apps are created equal. Some support more processors and phones better

Are you using the ARM7 plugin? If not, that is your issue right there.

Netflix audio out of sync.

My Netflix audio has been out of sync since I first got my G3. My network is fine as Netflix works perfectly on PC, iOS devices, Chrome casts etc. The audio seems about 1 second behind the video. Anyone have a solution or have the same problem?
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
I typically watch on my chromecast, but the few times I have watched on the phone everything has looked good. If you're running ART try switching back to Dalvik. Other than that, try the typical force stop/restart on the netflix app and then a full on reboot. If it's still laggy then I'm out of ideas.
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I've tried all or them. So far
I'll update if u get it fixed. (and yeah casting is fine for me with my phone because it isn't really my phone doing the playback but rather the actual chromecast)

I have been getting the same problem
Maybe its because the image quality is much better than on most other devices that its arriving slower than the audio? That's my best guess. Its not super annoying, the delay is small enough that if you don't pay attention to who is speaking then you cant really tell. But it is noticeable. And if there is a fix that would be awesome.

I have this problem too. Tried downgrading Netflix but no luck. Tried different Roms too and nothing. It's pretty annoying. Funny thing is I don't have these issues with video players or videos streaming from YouTube.
Just found this thread researching this issue. Just got my G3 yesterday day. Everything is still on stock. Anyone notice if other video apps suffer the same problem? I ask because to me it feels like video generally looks a bit like overprocessed motion-interpolated modern tv sets. And if the g3 uses stuff like that it might be related...

2k Youtube videos freezing?

Every time I try to play a Youtube video in 1440p, it freezes after about 10 seconds. I'm on my second V10 and they both have the issue. This happening with anyone else? Kinda disappointing that the V10 isn't capable of playing 2k videos...
That's a bummer.....No issues here....tried 6 different 2K videos on Youtube after I read this post. They all played great. No stopping or stuttering.
Which carrier are you on?

Tmobile. How long did you let them play? Mine always start out fine but freeze after 10-20 seconds. The audio keeps playing, just the video freezes
Same issue with 2k videos on YouTube freezes but sounds works

Wonder if it's a T-Mobile device issue....I have the AT&T version. I watched the 2K videos all the way through....some were longer than 10 minutes and some just over 2 minutes. Watched a few UnboxTherapy vids...they have vids in 2K. Also watched some 2K movie trailers. Godzilla for example....haven't heard many people with this issue though.
Just tested several 2k videos. All worked flawlessly and showed off this ips display quite nicely! Tmo variant on LTE network

I have watched many youtube videos and have had no issues. All hq videos look and play great. (on t-mobile)
I've got the tmo version and I definitely have issues with 1440p. This is my 2nd one too.
Side by side be S6 active the V10 skips frames during 1440p. Also I have experienced it stopping video as well... One of the reviews I watched on the V10 after I got it, nonetheless, in 1440p it just stopped playing video. Ironic.
This happens over wifi or LTE, so I can't see why it would be carrier specific. Especially since the audio keeps playing & just the video freezes

I have the TMobile v10 and I just watched 4 2k videos on YouTube without an issue. I watched:
Jurassic Park preview https://youtu.be/vBfY-o_OIPI
2K Demo https://youtu.be/hddwAIXbKZo
Another Demo https://youtu.be/0vrdgDdPApQ
And Godzilla preview https://youtu.be/kCUmjVys0MA
May have mixed up the last 2 links but I didn't have any issues. I am on 4G LTE waiting on the doctor who had a flat this morning.

We'll I was just curious when I asked what carrier you were on because each carrier has its own model.....not because of signal strength or quality of LTE and Wifi. T-Mobile is the H901...AT&T is the H900. T-Mobile's is unlockable and rootable right now.....AT&T version not so much. So far on this thread the people who do have problems are the T-Mobile version which makes me even more curious....

I watched some of those as well....Jurrasic Park trailer is awesome! Very fluid....and all videos have played great over LTE and WiFi for me.
I just played the above videos with no issue, but I can confirm some 1440 videos not playing properly. This is the very first video I tried to watch on this device.
Gigantic slide into lake:https://youtu.be/KUOhpQDDME4
I'm still having issues with it. My simple guess is vids with issues were encoded at a higher bitrate. That said, this device should not be affected.

Just watched the video you linked to....Thanks for sharing! The clarity and sharpness is outstanding and the video plays smoothly. No issues here.
i am having the same issue with 4k videos, videos freeze and sounds are going on. what is the issue?
Guess the gpu is not powerful enough to render the pixels?
Hey everyone, I just made a video to show this issue happening. If anyone has any suggestions throw them out them out there.

Just watched your video bud......damn shame. Have you tried clearing the cache and data in the app and starting over? Don't know if it'll help but it's the only suggestion I got.....sorry I can't help any more than that.
I am having the same issue with my T-Mobile V10 as well. Some videos play fine but for the majority of them the screen freezes while the audio continues. I have found that pausing the video and pushing play again can correct the problem but it can happen again on the same video.

Yeah so far the people that are having issues are using the T-Mobile device.....don't know why that is though.
