Is sg3 wprth it ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guyz.
I have a galaxy nexus right now and i really like it after changing from an iphone to an android,i wont go back to ios again !
i have 2 problems with my current galaxy nexus 1:Battery 2:storage
My question is: is the new galaxy s 3 worth to buy ?
and what do you recommend me to get a 16 gb or a 32gb if yuo think i should get it.
will there be any dev that are gonna wow us in the gs3 ?

i dont see an upgrade is necessary if you have gnexus, but still if you need more storage space and battery may be you can go for sgs3.
The devs will surely wow as in the coming months

16gb on the S3 will be for me fine and I am also getting a 32gb card with the phone to expand it. My current S1 has 8gb + 8gb expansion and I still haven't filled both cards but I suppose it all depends on what you want to have on it

i am trying to figure out the exact same thing. i am sure i will buy it, but i think it would be more responsible of me to wait and see what the devs can come up with for my i777.

32gb
I think that 32 gb is the best bet for me but I don't know why I can't wait for it although my gnexus is doing its job but I guess the quad core is the main reason why .

Sell your gnex before it losses its value. It's resale value is taking a nose dive.

If you haven't yet rooted it, using a custom kernel like trinity can do wonders for your battery life.
Storage obviously can't help with

The storage issue on s3 is mitigated by sd cards, but I would still recommend 32gb in case you want to download large apps.

I've just pre-ordered an S3. My provider is only selling the 16gb version (o2 in the UK), so I'm going to put a class 10 64gb microSD in it. This is plenty enough for me.
I'm counting down the days til the end of the month now, and hoping that the clever folk of XDA get some nice custom ROMs and kernels out soon!

it is rooted !
My gnexus is rooted and I am using a trinity kernal the battery is getting better with updates but its nothing compared to gnote that my friend has . I really wanna win the battery life hopefully with the new gs3 !
But I still don't think that 2100 will do the work for a quad core device unless it is stable and rooted
And by the way guys where can I pre order a sim free gs3 in Ireland ? I study there ?
Thanks you for your co op

Well, you can't seriously expect it to compete with a 2500 battery.
The S3's 2100 will no doubt make it more even. The notion that quad core uses more is (kinda) a myth, depending on how well it's designed.

waiting
Well I hope so cause my expectations for gs3 is high and I can barely wait for it .
Hehe
Where can I pre order the gs3 sim free in Ireland

SGS II or SGS III?

I am in the market for a new phone. I like the SGS II alot. Also its cheaper but older tech. SGS III seemed nice and better screen and new tech. I could go either way but I am not sure.

Do you think you can hold that rubbish design of S III, regardless of it's specs? If yes then go on. Otherwise none of them seem the right option now, but One X.
Will suggest you s3 if you want to be futureproof and development
S3 is the ultimate phone and will be one of the best Sellers for 2012. You can't go wrong with it. Perfect design. Analyst say curvy is the new

In the Uk, the 32gb version from Vodafone cost £90 more in deposit. I'd rather buy a 64gb xdhc card for about £60 from Ebay.that's better than buying 16gb more for £90

I got the 16 gig in my SGS2 and a 32 gig card in it already. So I know 16 gig on the phone is not going to cut it. My plan is to go for at 64 gig phone and then a 64 gig SD card on top of that just becaues I am storageaholic.
That way I can carry most of my things with me to work, where I will need them. My SGS2 is my computer away from home, so extra storage means I can reduce the amount of USB drives and what not I have to carry.

I see you're using a nexus one so you're looking for a new phone. Obviously the choice between the 2 will be the Galaxy S3 unless you want to spend less. At this point, why would someone get the s2 when they can get the s3? S2 is a fine phone but s3 has everything and does everything better that's a fact. For example I would definitely recommend someone to get the galaxy nexus over the nexus s even though the nexus s is a great device.

Its a successor to the sgs2 of course it will be BETTER,NEWER,FASTER,SEXIER,SMARTER,...etc device...!!!
So go for the BETTER,NEWER,FASTER,SEXIER,SMARTER,...etc device... and buy the sgs3..... because its BETTER,NEWER,FASTER,SEXIER,SMARTER,...etc device...!!!
well honestly i laughed holding my stomach (in fact i am now)at this question when i first read it.
Well I'm in the same situation as you
I'm in LOVE with the GSII as it has a stylish design, a good performance and acceptable price
but in exchange GSIII has better graphics, better performance, better interface and higher tech but much higher price
Some times I say that I can achieve most of the advantages of GSIII by installing the new developed ICS and I'll have a good result too in GSII
I'm really confused and didn't make my decision yet

Galaxy Note 2 feautures on Original Note?possible?

Hey guys do you think it would be possible to have the galaxy note 2 feautures in our original note?
Totally different question,Also do you recommend upgrading to note 2?.....
Many of us are upgrading to the note 2... The new model blows this original version out the window... Remember it has twice the ram and a quad core not dual.. So even though in time there will be note 2 roms poping up..It still won't be as fast as a 2gb ram mutitasking....The beefed up ram helps with opening and closing apps extremely fast..
Its kinda a personal decision as to your funds and what not...

Decisions Decisions

OK sad news. i dropped my s3. It shattered, still works but the repair price is 280 and im too skittish to do it on my own to save the cash. So my question is, with the nexus 4 out should I
A) repair the s3 and save my media collection (16+32gb mem card, 15 gb of which is music)
B) put an extra 100 and go get the nexus 4 and use the s3 for music and such
my real concern however is that people(early reviews) are saying the battery life is poor compared to other devices, and that glass back,(i broke the front glass on an s3 rather dumb so this scares the fukery out of me). I don't live in an LTE are so that doesn't bug me but i also live outside a google music area for if the s3 gives out and then im stuck with 10 gb of music (still a lot i know) and no way to expand.
If anyone knows any idea how the battery fairs in comparison to the s3 (i don't have 2 batteries with my s3 so i don't have the advantage of kill one swap the other, so that's no a factor either) it would really help in the decision
it would really help in the decision[/QUOTE said:

Sell the S3 as a device with a broken screen, or disassemble it and sell it in parts and then buy an N4.
Who cares if it lacks a removable battery. I have never once found it useful anyhow. If you think the storage is a downside, try looking into this one thing called OTG cable. Worked fine for me when I had the Gnex.
Good luck trying to actually buy a N4 right now. Sold out everywhere!

If you're so music-centric, why are you going for a Nexus with its limited storage? I think the S3 will keep you more than satisfied with its massive storage options!
I, for one, have run out of space on my 16GB phone with an 8GB memory card.

Well I've decided... nexus 4 sounds nice with the latest of this and that but at the end of the day it lacks on some areas. Battery life from all sources I've read from say that the battery is lackluster and under performs compared to other devices. All it really has going for it is that it will get updates first, something that i honestly don't care for because with all my devices i simply go for custom roms. I'm currently on AOKP milestone 1 and barely see and issues, so even if i was to get the nexus 4 i would probably just throw on a custom rom anyways for the extra features. So all in all the lack of expandable storage, sub-par battery performance an ok but not as good camera compared to the s3 and glass back just really threw me off. I will bite the bullet and get the screen fixed. Thanks for your suggestions and here are some links for reviews on the device

i777 vs. i727 Which is better

Just thinking about getting an i777 but I was just wondering which is better in your opinion. The i777 or the skyrocket i727 and why?
The i777 is almost two years old. Why in the world would you update to such an old device when the new phones coming out are ....well new? Hehe

vs posts are always shut down. Just a big ***** session.
Maybe the OP is buying a used phone now that they both should be in the $200 max price point?
If I was on ATT I'd get the i727 now that LTE has been rolled out to more cities. If you're on a grandfathered unlimited data plan you'll be throttled at 5GB instead of 3GB as well.
Since I'm using a MVNO and I'm not interested in LTE, I prefer the i777 for (I think) better developer support.
Doesn't matter now. It's irrelevant. They're both old and are being replaced with better versions. Anyone who buys one new now should really be asking themselves why they're buying a two year old phone.

No. It IS relevant if he's buying USED. On the other hand, it would be utter stupidity to use an upgrade for either when the SGS3 and Note 2 are currently available.
i777 is better than i727 because 777 is a higher number than 727.

Guys I'm sure if he were on a contract and had an upgrade he wouldn't be here.
The i777 is better. Better cpu, better gpu! Same as i9100 so more Rom support. Plain and simple!
The i727 has bigger screen.
If you're getting it for under 200 like I did (I spent $60 with cracked lcd and $125 for new lcd) then go ahead. but if you can afford to save up and get a new device that would be even better.
I might be upgrading to a nexus 4 or something soon.

Depends on his needs. I came back to this i777 because I couldn't stand my Galaxy Nexus' lack of microsd slot anymore.
I'm personally steering clear of the Nexus 4 for the same reason in addition to the non-swappable battery.
Depending on your needs, i disagree with that it being irrelevant or anything else. The $299 Nexus 4 is only 8gb right, with no expansion? Wasn't enough for me. 6 months ago I got a GREAT quality i777 off eBay for $220 with 16GB storage, micro SD slot, replaceable battery. Literally had NO scratches on the screen and one tiny one on the side that really wasnt noticable without looking closely. It is working out great for me with AOKP JB 4.2.2 & I saved 130 over the 16gb Nexus 4. I777 should be even cheaper now.
Sent from my SGH-i777 using xda app-developers app
I used to think 8 gigs of internal storage wouldn't be enough either. Then I realized something. I usually only put like 3 gigs max music on my phone because....well.... 3 gigs is a ton of music and more than I could realistically listen to in a given week. And i usually once a week backup any pictures I take to my external hard drive and delete them from my phone. (I assume other people do this too, if not, and something happens to your phone, all those memories are lost) so really 8 gigs is more than enough space for me to comfortably use. Only reason I can think it would be an issue is if someone needs to carry around their entire music collection with them, or if they never remove pictures and videos from their device.
Honestly, the i777 is an amazing phone. If you can get one for real cheap and you want to save your upgrade, I would definitely get the i777. There is really nothing out there that this phone can't run/do, except for maybe some novelty stuff. The only reason you could really warrant getting anything else is if you want a bigger screen and 4g, or if you already have an i777 and you just want to play with something new. And I can't compare to anything else, but coming from LG, this is probably one of the least complicated and simplest phones to flash stuff with.
If you're already planning on spending near $200 for a used 2 year old phone, might as well just get a brand new S4 which is going to be around $250 with a 2 year contract. Unless of course you want to be stuck in 2011 or something.

For a two year old phone the i777 is still relevant. Solid CPU, SD Expansion, and smooth as butter with SHOstock3! I got mine when it first released and it still looks and operates great.

New Mate 2 Variant at Walmart - $249.00

I was at the local Wallyworld today and they had a new display of Unlocked phones for sale. They didn't have the actual phones on display, but a card that you take to the Electronics desk to get the product. What caught my eye was a phone called "Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Slim". The specs on the card look exactly the same as my Mate 2 that I got on Amazon. The only thing that may have been different was a smaller battery (can't remember if it was noted on the package). The phone is not yet listed on the Walmart.com website. Anyone else see this?? Differences between this phone and the Mate 2? Looks like prices are falling, due to no Kit Kat or Lollipop updates???????

I took a second pic of the info card at Walmart. Other than 8 vs 16 MB memory, and maybe a slightly smaller battery it looks the same at the Mate 2. I didn't see the phone itself. For $249 it looks like a good deal.

I actually just bought this variant, and love it so far. It's almost exactly like my note 2 that died on me awhile back.... Loved the note 2. Unfortunately I can't afford another, nor the note 4 so I figured "It has almost the same specs, I'll give it a whirl" since walmart has the 15 day return policy, so far I'm satisfied and almost love it as much as the Note 2. The bootloader unlock method found on here works as well (Emailed Huawei for the code) Now trying to find an easy way of rooting and looking for TWRP.

Thanks very much! You guys have a bit of a different structure for where your threads go than over at the Note 2 palace as I like to call it. Not going to lie, I miss my baby, but maybe this phone will finally be the motivation that I need to start making my own custom roms for phones, considering development for this doesn't seem a 100% go so far like it is over on the note 2 area. Or at least I haven't noticed yet.

I just noticed in those images it has a different firmware version. the latest update for the Mate 2 is b148 and it looks like the slim is running b146. I doubt there is any notable difference between the 2 but worth pointing out. It baffles me why release a new version when they were not planning to update the phone at all until all of us that purchased the phone caused them to reconsider and give us lollipop
Do you see in the system prpoerties that it list the phone as having 8gb of Phone Storage and not 16gb. Mine has always said 16gb before and after rooting. I have the cc version.
