[Q] Has anybody else had their Wifi suddenly quit working right? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Greetings,
I've had my Prime for nearly a month now. It had been performing on the same level as my other devices and I thought I was lucky enough to not have any problems like some others have had.
Yesterday, my Prime started losing connectivity after a few minutes. Then I'll turn off Wifi and turn it back on. It will reconnect, and then stop communicating again after a few minutes.
I can be right next to my router and it will still happen. I have also tried connecting to my phone's hotspot with the same result.
Interestingly, my Prime says it is still connected to my router. When I check the status, it says, connected, signal strength excellent, link speed 72 Mbps. And when I log into my router, the prime is still showing up as connected in the device list.
But if I try to ping the prime from my desktop, it times out.
Has this happened to anyone else? And if so, is there any way to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

Actually this has happened to me before. The wifi icon shows its connected but when you open the browser it tells you there isnt a connection. So i turn wifi off and on again for it to reconnect.
It doeant happen all the time but when it does its really annoying. A fix would be nice.

Happens to me constantly. Its usually when switching routers from home to work to city. I believe I read at some point to delete locations you don't use and it should help.
Autobots, roll out! Sent from my Transformer Prime!

It doesn't happen to me often but when it disconnects it does it in the last 10 minutes of a TV show I've been watching online for the past hour.

never had it happen before.

Is anyone elses wifi absolutely awful after the .13 patch?

I got my prime a week before the patch and I had no complaints with my wifi, but it seems like now I can barely hold a connection. After only s few minutes it'll disconnect and ill need to turn wifi off and on to be able t connect again, otherwise it just saves the network and doesn't actually connect.
When I do get connected, the wifi icon in the notification area is always showing no signal at all even though I can still use the internet. Even when I'm only a few feet from my router I still have the problem.
Anyways have a problem like this with the new update?
No, everything good for me after update. Update actually made wifi signal a lil more stable. It doesn't fluctuate as much anymore between strength frequencies.
Have you tried a reboot? Have you tried forgetting your network then entering the info in again?
I'm having exactly what you're describing, but only when I'm here at work using our wifi. At home, it stays connected like normal and works perfectly. Also, here at work the wifi symbol goes grey.
Going by these, my guess is something's up with our wireless here at work. Or something. I've only had problems here at work since somewhere after the update, but I can't say for sure that's the problem since it works so well at home...

I have tried that before but just mow I just forgot all of my networks I've connected to then rebooted and now it actually shows me getting signal in the notification area instead if just showing an empty wifi icon. I'm not sure why it'd do that but in guess well see if it stays like this or not.

Sounds good. Lets hope it doesn't act up on you again.
Hol up, I think I know what you talking about. Did you mean you'd see your wifi icon and its connected but the bars are grey n not blue like it usually is when connected?

This is what I get here at work. What does it mean? I googled around, and the only thing I could find was that if it's grey, you aren't connected to google voice or something? Heywire and the internet and stuff all work fine when it's grey for me.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I think it doesn't mean anything because you still connected n can use internet. Maybe just a bug or a delay from the bars starting to highlight blue to show signal strength. I've seen it a couple times bit I was still connected to internet n n such. I just briefly couldn't see the strength, through the bars since the blue highlights didn't fill up bars yet.
I don't think it has anything to do with Google voice. Probably just a bug.
I couldn't find anything regarding the grey bars that applied directly to tablets; all I could find was regarding smart phones, so it could be a completely different meaning.
Grey=push google services unreachable
Blue=normal connection to google services
Grey doesn't mean you cant connect to google services it just means its more of a request respond connection instead of bidirectional push.
I can't connect to any wifi at all unless it's my phone that's tethered and is literally right next my tablet. I removed all stored wifi networks (about 30 of them from different offices I work at). I tried to re-add the one at my house and it found one and connected but then dropped immediately. Now no connection at all. My laptop has full signal and my tablet is right next to me and has no signal. This is really making me debate about returning it.
So now after deleting all my wifi networks and rebooting it worked fine at my apartment, then I went to my university and I wasn't able to connect at all to their networks(it could just be that their networks are ****ty, but my phone can connect to it so I think its partly the Prime messing up). I was able to tether with my phone and connect to that, but I got the no signal icon thing again.
By the no signal icon thing, I don't mean the grey bars. No bars show up at all, like this: http://i.imgur.com/vt9SB.jpg
Normally when I get grey bars, you can actually see where the bars are at, but in that picture it's just all solid dark gray. When I get that icon down there, which still happens sometimes, it usually disconnects me after a few minutes and I need to turn the wifi off and then on again before I can connect again, only to have the same thing happen again in a few minutes.
Never seen that before. Try the same tactic at university n see if it corrects itself.
Sorry to hear abouut your problem. Based on my experience, you must have a problematic sample, and should return it. My unit was amoung the earliest batches (shipped to me on 12/18), and at all times, the wI-fI signal strength has been acceptable (on par with my Epic 4g phone
Grey Bars Continued
I've given it about a day but, I also continue to have grey bars, though mine is via my wifi at home on my Prime. I can connect to the internet fine, but for some reason the connection to google servers is not working. I had blue bars for a few days after buying it but it has never gone blue again.
I've tried wiping data and updated to the new firmware with no change.
Any thoughts?

[Q] "strange" wi-fi issue?

Where I work there are two wi-fi sources connected to the same system - the canteen and the library.
In the library everything is OK, ATP finds the wi-fi and connects.
In the canteen the ATP finds the signal, says signal strength is Excellent (I'm only a few feet from the aerial), but then without me moving, and just a few seconds after it starts trying to connect, the strength drops to Poor, the ATP says 'connecting' or 'finding address' for a while and then gives up saying there are signal strength issues. If I cancel the connection then the signal immediately goes back up to Excellent.
Back to the library and all is fine again...
Any ideas?
In the spirit of full disclosure, I have received the ATP back from RMA for screen issues...it worked fine in both places before.
It could very well be a router issue. If your not having any problems connecting to the other wifi source then maybe something has changed with the router that you used to be able to connect to.... I find that when I'm about to connect to a wifi spot the signal strength doesn't show the true signal strength until I actually connect to it. But I never got a connectivity issue notice like your having. Might want to check that router or bring in another device to connect to that wifi spot that you are having problems with to better diagnose your issue. If that device is having the same problems connecting then you are that much closer to finding the answer.

I found that my signal shows one or two lines when I fail to connect to an APN even when I'm right next to it.
Once I'm connected the signal goes right back to 100% and then it fine even if I connect to it at max range. On my prime it can be 300y in an open area and less inside.
My prime is one of those that have great wifi but 0 gps
Quick question for the OP:
You said you had your Prime repaired...
Did you already have the hotspots on your Prime when you sent it in for repair?
You may want to try and forget both connections and then reestablish both of them.
Don't know if it will help, but I know I used to have issues sometimes when changing roms on my phone where a remembered connection would act kinda weird.
Only thing that would fix it was to forget the connection, then redo it.
Just a thought.

Yes, both were there before I sent it off - and all wi-fi hotspots were still on the system when it was returned (though none of my apps, photos or videos...)

[Q] Anyone else having a problem with WIFI disconnecting every few hours?

The only problem I have with the new EVO is it will disconnect from WIFI every few hours forcing me to turn WIFI on and then off again. Anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

So far, mine has been rock solid on two routers. Hopefully you didn't get a bum unit.

i personally haven't had this problem, but you are not alone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671744
everyone is complaining about disconnect/reconnect there.
Yes.
Sometimes it's fine sometimes it's not.
I left in the car came back and it didn't reconnect to WIFI on it's own.
Even if I did a WIFI scan it would not reconnect.
Toggled WIFI and it reconnected fine.
FYI, I am rooted.
I have that problem...have had to reconnect 3 times today. No way to tell if you're disconnected either (besides not being able to hit websites, email, play store, etc).
I've had this happen to me a few times. Even with 3g actually. Anyone else experiencing 3g disconnects/reconnects?

so, finally this is happening to me this morning, after 2 days of rock solid wifi. this morning I noticed when I turn screen on, wifi was off but connected itself real quick as I was unlocking it. I know it was disconnected because then I got 2 emails and gtalk messages that SHOULD HAVE come trough and notified me half hour prior.
I've been messing with the wifi sleep and power settings ever since, sending myself chat requests to test. it seems 20 minutes is the cutoff time before wifi drops to one bar or disconnects. this is a problem as chat messages should be pushed instantly, not when it gets around to reconnecting itself.
I've tried all different "yes no"options under keep wifi awake, power, etc etc and it seems 20 minutes either disconnects wifi or goes into some low-power wifi that is too weak to get push notifications. it seems to me it checks once every half hour for notifications if "never keep wifi from sleeping" is checked. again, this is a HUGE problem for things like chat programs, fring, anything that uses internet to communicate and not the 3g network.
again,I wasn't having thus problem for the last 2 days till I woke up this morning. This phone isn't getting secret background updates is it?? it still would need to tell me it downloaded and ask if I want to install, right??
me thinks this has to do with network scanning, for lte, as there is no connect or stay connected options for lte,I assume its gonna auto connect and disconnect to save battery like the thunderbolt did. I think its auto low-powering the wireless chip too except 3g in the same manner, unless never disconnect wifi during sleep is checked, and then it just turns it on and off. well,I have one of those weak internal-antenna routers so when it goes low-power, it can't stay connected of or moves or someone walks between me and the router. its a big problem to get chat notifications and Skype calls half hour later than they were sent because my phone is in done kind of auto-power-saving mode. I've spent the last 4 hours messing with this issue.
someone help!!
This morning my WiFi was connected without having to turn WiFi off/on again. I checked the other thread mentioned and my 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep' option is already set to 'Always'. I haven't rooted my phone yet so everything is stock.
For me it will show WiFi at the top as if it is connected but I try to do anything online and it won't work till I turn it off/on again. At that point I will receive any old notifications too.
I know for sure it's not my router because my Galaxy Tab continues to work just fine. I also have 3 computers connected to the WiFi with no issues.
Going to try a few more things and fiddle with the 'Best Wi-Fi Performance' option as well even though my signal shows full.
HTC!!!!! its always two steps forward, one step back!! something happened to my phone overnight because now connectivity is just jacked after the phone goes into sleep mode. no new apps installed
its true! the one X forums have way more relevant info than the evo forums have. they have a fix for this, but you have to be rooted. i also found this, which works for our evo:
http://blog.onthegosolutions.com/index.php/2012/05/01/hidden-power-saver-menu-htc-one-x/
How to access the hidden power save menu
Mine seems to not be staying connected when I let the phone sleep for a while. No problems while I am using it or signal dumping just when it's sleeping. I have my settings set to never. Annoying, hopefully fixed with a software update.
After setting the best wifi performance option on it seems that my notifications and wifi work better. Not sure how much this drains the battery though since I am at my desk with it charging most the time.

This started happening to me yesterday, as well as the phone rebooting when it attempts to connect to Veriz -- err, roaming data. I've also had the issue where I had to toggle WiFi to get it to connect to an AP again; these issues used to happen to my OG EVO way back when, so this has to be some sloppy software change management on HTC's part. My EVO's going back to Sprint; I don't pay to beta test.
I already posted in the other thread, but will say this.
Please call sprint and voice your issue. If/when they have enough complaints, someone at htc will look into it and it will hopefully be part of the next update.
Btw, I think one of the triggers is no wifi activity. If you're getting push email every 45-60 min, then wifi remains on. If not, then it shuts off after about an hour.
The hidden power settings applies only to when the battery is low (25 or 15% remaining). Either way, it doesn't fix the problem.
Notch another one with this issue.
I had the issue even when I turned on my phone for the first time. I connected to the wifi during setup and couldn't activate my dropbox because of lack of connection.
Once I got through setup, I turned off wifi, turned it on and it worked again.
But there has been a few other times, especially when I first enter a wifi spot, I need to turn off and turn on.
It is quite annoying. And like somebody else said, there is no way of knowing this until you try something.
this seriously is a huge problem. google voice calls don't come through, emails don't come, anything internet connection. once you on off it,I had 8 missed calls, ten work emails, etc etc. plus if it thinks its connected, shows the wifi bar, but not actually connected, it fubars your 3g data connection for a few minutes trying to connect to something. I am furious about this as I didn't have this problem my first two days with this beautiful phone. now I'm seeing the ugly side, and I don't like it. and I'm not rooted yet so I can't fix it!!!!
the google voice phone calls do NOT come through, and this is a major major problem. wtf was htc thinking??
I wonder if a suitable work around might be to use some wifi keep alive widget running that pings the router every 30-60 minutes...?
I'm not sure, someone more knowledgeable will have to let us know. I imagine it won't without being a huge battery drain. shouldn't auto sync do that anyway? I'll look and try later tonight if don't hear from any experts
I'm not sure what autosync is? I use k9 mail setup with imap/push.

No 802.11 ac???

Just received my imported japanese 32gb z3tc sgp612 and noticed I can't find my dual band network on my router. Anyone else having this issue? All my other devices scan and find it with no problem. Tried restarting tablet and resetting router but no luck
Mine was also Japan imported (SGP611). I can connect to 5Ghz with a speed of 585Mbps with no problem.
Edit--
What security are you using on your WiFi? (TKIP, AES, WPA/WPA2)?
Mine was WPA/WPA2 PSK. I saw some tablet (Samsung) that can't detect WiFi that using some specific security.
Can you manually add your SSID?
In the Wifi page, tap the + sign then manually enter your SSID and Security.
Yes I have wpa. I will try to enter it manually and see what happens. Thanks for the info.
Edit... Never mind. I shut down my computer before going to work. After I turned it back on it picked up the network instantly. Thanks for the help though.
I must add this battery is ridiculous. Started at 64% out the box and after downloading all my apps, games, web browsing, youtubing and light gaming (subway surfers) I left it home overnight. I came back home to this thing at 42% with 20 hours on battery and 2 hours on screen time. Nothing short of incredible for the battery size. It hasn't even been broken in yet and already getting incredible battery life.

I too just received the 32gb Japanese model and am having 5ghz issues. I have zero 5ghz connectivity. I used a couple different wifi scanning apps on the tablet along with my phone (which showed the 5ghz networks). I have updated my router firmware and even changed the 5ghz SSID to see if that will reboot something for the tablet. I have even done a factory reset with no luck. Please tell me i'm doing something wrong and the tablet is fine, because returning it due to it being faulty would just be soul crushing after the Nexus 9 disaster I went through.

Wifi and Bluetooth randomly dropping out

So I've noticed that randomly throughout the day my phone will randomly disconnect from Wifi and Bluetooth. It always drops both at the same time then reconnects.
Has anyone else had this problem?
For me the Mobile Connection Drops every few seconds.....No Network...4G TLE with 5 Bars.......No Network...4G TLE with 5 Bars.....No Network...4G TLE with 5 Bars.....No Network...4G TLE with 5 Bars...
Got my My LG G5 from T-Mobile... After 3 days the phone has been overheating, and every 10 seconds it drops Mobile Connection...I went through a plethora of tests with T-Mobile Support and they determined that I need a replacement device...so waiting for the replacement...One other thing, I notice this happened after calling T-Mobile to Unlock the device...So not sure if there is any correlation between my issue and T-Mobiles Unlock App, T-Mobile said the two were not related.
WiFi is unstable for me, too. Disconnects randomly every hour or so. I mostly notice it when casting to my Chromecast. I have to reconnect to the app in order to regain control. I've tried multiple routers, and the problem is reproducible with both. Bluetooth hiccups, too, but never fully disconnects. I haven't noticed that the WiFi and Bluetooth disconnects coincide. Mine is AT&T branded.
I've got a similar issue, only the wifi is fine most of the time, but Bluetooth skips every few minutes and has completely dropped twice. I'm exchanging my device tomorrow to see if that fixes it. I also got a crap battery as well. Kinda disappointed with this $700 purchase.

Me too, i disappointed
Okay so, I've only managed to reproduce it on 5GHz networks. It doesn't seem to drop out on the 2.4GHz band. Bluetooth doesn't drop out either.
Scrap that, just happened again at work on a 2.4GHz connection. Hopefully it's just a software bug that will be fixed in a later patch.
I have 5Ghz wi-fi at home and it's been rock solid. Have also had no issues with bluetooth. Hope you get it figured out.
Both bands Wi-Fi & BT rock solid for me too. The BT in particular seems much stronger than my 6P which had occasional drop outs even at close range.

I notice that it reports "Avoiding poor connection" in the WiFi menu when it's disconnected. I'm sitting in the room with the router, so maybe the "poor connection" detection is too aggressive.
Mine just starting dropping WiFi while the screen is off, I check the settings and everything is setup right it just started to happen today. I would F/R the phone and see if that helps
I exchanged mine for a new one, and the WiFi connection remains inconsistent.

Mine also does this and seems to be getting worse also vibrations have also stopped all together
I can't even get through 1-2 songs on bluetooth before it disconnects and plays through my phone speakers... it has zero issues connecting in the first place and sounds fine, but then just drops.
I do have pretty unreliable wifi at home so I'm playing some music with wifi switched off to see if it could somehow be related to wifi dropping, but these songs I'm playing are cached to my phone from Play Music so that'd seem weird to me..
Also wondering if hardware and distance has an issue with it. I had it 2-3 yards away from my bluetooth shower speaker when it disconnected. I'm playing it right next to it now and so far into song 2 with no issues. I've never had this issue with my G4, which is a bummer, because that phone was a piece of junk that my G5, otherwise, outclasses in every possible way.
To update, the Bluetooth issues absolutely seem to be linked to wifi drops, at least from my testing. Even playing local media, I noticed both dropped at the same time, but I played through 5 songs with my wifi toggled off and not a single problem.
Those of you with issues in the car, is your wifi toggled off completely? I'm wondering if it's affected by having wifi on, or just by a random wifi drop.
I've had wifi issues with every Android phone I've owned since IPv6 became normal in home routers. I blame Google for refusing to use DHCPv6, the most widely used dynamic network addressing protocol, instead using some weirdass protocol called RDNSS which NOBODY uses. I've found the best fix is to ensure your router is set to stateless autoconfiguration for IPv6, but it doesn't fix it completely. Those who have a router that can shut v6 off, try it out. Xfinity doesn't let you.
I will say my g4 behaved the exact same way on wifi, but I don't remember Bluetooth having issues. I don't use it much, though, since I have an AUX in my car and Chromecast music.
Having the same issue as well. Fought with sprint for weeks and went through a few replacements in that time... Got the G5 as a free upgrade and it's doing the same thing. Done with LG devices...
Yes, and I just made a thread about it. Oops. Anyone try resetting phone? I'm about to but that's a pain having to bring it all back and make sure I back everything up.

That is not promising as I've had this issue since day one hoping an update would solve it to no avail trying to avoid getting a replacement.
My last phone did the exact same thing. For 2 years. Also constantly closing apps I was using, freezing, and my keyboard would disappear frequently. It did it from Day 1. It was a nightmare.
Finally got a new phone (and moved up to Marshmallow,) and the drops have started happening after less than 1 week. They really need to find out what's causing this!
