Where can I just buy the handset without a contract? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to buy it from a place where in the phone is faulty they'll pick it up and exchange it for a new one there and then. I got my last phone with Three and they did this and it was amazing, I wasn't without a phone while waiting for them to send me a new one. Every time I've bought one of these phones the first one has been faulty lol and I want to buy one with a good policy like Three have. Sadly they're only selling them on contract until at least the 30th so wondering if any other companies do the same?
Thanx.
Edit: Sorry from the UK.

There are multiple threads on pre ordering without a contact. If you took the time to read first, you'd know this.

[Q] Return policy of AT&T

So i bought my GS2 on the day it released for at&T aka oct 2nd. Anyways after that , me the clumsy person i am lost the phone a week or so later... and then using insurance got another phone a day or 2 later.. my question is that will the return policy work with the phone that i received so that i can try and get the LTE version aka skyrocket GS2 ( not sure if i really want it but still thinking).. thanks
Usually not, since your replacement phone has a different serial number. Also, if you bought it on the 2nd, your 30 days are up.
yeah it goes by the original purchase date not the replacement date
If you purchased the phone at a corporate store, maybe the manager would make an exception for you... if you can sweet talk them... however, I wouldn't hold my breath..
Also, as far as S/N, you have a fifty-fifty chance that they will even crack open the back cover and compare the S/N... My first SGSII had a bad screen and I walked in and exchanged it... They didn't even look in the box to see if it was in it... They just processed the exchange and handed me a new one...
All that said, I would recommend not being a d-bag by trying to defraud them. It just isn't right. If you are seriously interested in the new phone, just clearly let them know, including the fact that your phone was a replacement under the insurance. Maybe they will say "sure"... But be prepared to for them to say "no". Atleast give them an opportunity to surprise you.
Good luck,
Don

For those with bad pixel's

I have 4 bad pixel's on my HTC one I bought it brand new for retail off ebay. I see alot of these problem's going on and people geting worst phone's back so instead of playing the return and hope to get a good one game I have contacted HTC with the problem they are aware of the problem and will fix the phone for free ( you just pay shipping to them ) and promise and perfect display when it leave's so I will post back ( about 2 week's...) to see if they really did fix it right.

So I purchase a product from them that does not meet their own standards? Then I have to pay to ship it back to them, and then wait 2 weeks for the device I just purchased. Yikes!
Yeah that is not right...I argued the best they could do is pay shipping back..time's like this is when I wish I had Att so I could go right to the store...( have stright talk reason why I bought it online ) If I do send it back I will have no phone for 2 week's wish they would do what apple doe's and send a new phone first but they won't.

Had a dead pixel on my One I picked up yesterday and I went back in and exchanged it. I can live with the screen gap but I'll be damned if I have to stare at a dead pixel for 2 years. Once you know it's there, it's all you can think about.
I got a replacement yesterday. It had a dead pixel. Just a single one but it drove me crazy and my eyes would constantly gravitate to it. Fought with them all morning because they told me to exchange it in a store, no stores are carrying the 64gb in inventory so they said they would send me a return label and once they get this device send me another. I called back multiple times and fought with multiple people. Eventually I got a supervisor that made it so they send me the replacement first, then I send back this one. It took a lot of fighting and a lot of calls but they eventually did it. The supervisor actually had to get approval from her supervisor. It was a hellish morning and I'm glad I finally got it sorted. Already got an email about the order for the replacement so that's a good sign. Man their customer service has taken a nosedive. It never used to be this difficult to do an exchange. When the last rep answered "thank you for calling att where pur customers are the #1 priority I couldn't help to laugh and say 'that's not true'"

That is exactly how I look at it, I don't care how small it is if I know it is there I will keep looking for it...Needless to say I returned the phone I am scared to buy another one even all the one's I seen in person have dead pixel's somewhere on the screen.
What color on the screen did you notice the dead pixel?

Its still under warranty, why do you have to pay S&H?
I got mine today and no dead pixels or gaps I'm so lucky

it's lack of quality control ,they should recall them back, and replacement all device free
i have strong OCD. so i can not stand that, even only one dead pixel
Lucky you. Can you post your manufacturing details?

Was this through ATT or HTC? the jerks at HTC said they wont pay for shipping or replace .. just a repair and it will take 10 business days for me to get my phone back .. WTF ... HTC and Samsung need to get on Apple's level of Product Troubleshooting and Exchanges ...

This was through AT&T. If you are an AT&T customer, I would check to see if there is a warranty center in your area. They will usually make an exchange on the spot. Otherwise, call AT&T and they will send out a replacement right away and you just mail in your defective phone when you receive the new one.
I bought my phone used, does the 1 year manufacture warranty carry over to me, even though I'm not the original owner?
What are you using to find dead pixels with, they are quite small. I know certain screens/colors will reveal them nicely.
I had one dead pixel on my first HTC one it also had the speaker grill cut incorrectly. I decided to do a exchange for the same one and this one is perfect no issues. To check for dead pixels use this app it's great also shows ghosting ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ujacha.deadpixel&hl=en). I love this phone btw hope this helps anyone.

AT&T wont replace my broken htc one

Here is the short story, I first bought an s4, did not like it... traded it in for the htc one and payed 35 dollars. Then the black comes out at my store! so of course i need the black one, then I trade my silver for the black. Love it. However when i get home the head phone jack on it is damaged and wont play right unless i twist it properly. I take it in and show the guy working there and he sees its broke. Hes like you already traded it in 3 times i cant do it again. im like ITS BROKE! hes like you have to contact HTC now i cant. So i leave all pissed. I'm only 5 days into my 14 day period. Whats my options here? Its annoying that my head phone jack is broke the day i bought it.
I am surprised you were able to exchange the phone the third time. You are technically only allowed one swap per upgrade\activation. So it should have technically ended after the you got the first One.
There are a few options besides contacting HTC:
1) Find out if you have a local AT&T Warranty center. IF they some how have some replacement units in stock they will replace in house. If they do not have it in stock(which im sure they wont this quickly) then they will help you get a replacement with Exchange by Mail. Although, I am fairly certain in the first 14 days they are going to tell you to go back to the AT&T store and have them swap it. So maybe they can notate the account so when you return to the store they can be referenced.
2) Skip the warranty center and call #611. You can file a XBM that way and they will ship you a new phone with a return tag in the box to return the old. Once again, I am fairly certain in the first 14 days they are going to tell you to go back to the AT&T store and have them swap it. So maybe they can notate the account so when you return to the store they can be referenced.
3) Try a different AT&T store. Technically exchanging a phone for Buyer's Remorse and a phone for Defective Equipment are 2 totally different things. I cant guarantee you will have any luck with this.
It is a bummer that you got a defective phone. Hope you can it taken care of quickly. Try to not be a serial returner next time

Thanks for the help. I'd try different store but the others don't have it in black. I'm going to call 611 Monday and ask them about the option you gave me. I'm so tired of dealing with the sales reps at at&t. I told them when I went I don't won't to switch for a different phone I just want the same one that actually works. and they all freaked out on me because i switched the other phones. Well this time isnt my fault. Ill let you guys know how it goes. Dosnt at&t have a one year manufacturer defect warranty that they will change it for you? That's option you listed correct?
This the reason why I make friends with people at AT&T stores and starbucks.. you never know when you need someone to do a favor. Kindness goes a long way
Nonetheless, you can do a warranty exchange over the phone with them for up to one year. They will of course ask you to try doing a factory reset first..just play along
It only takes 1 or 2 days shipping when they ship to me in FL.

REally??? Making friends with people at ATT? I can see you drink Starbucks everyday and hence making friends there, but how often do you go in an ATT store? You must be bored or got nothing to do.

Funny. Striking up conversation with people in the customer service and sales industry is just being polite. Do you think they want to help someone out if they have to deal with someone being rude? Not really. The phone being broke isn't something they did maliciously..so you drew the short straw on the device; show respect to those that can take care of the problem. Most of the time they will do a "one time" replacement for being nice. Have a nice day.

Any warranty options on a used One?

Hello xda. A few weeks ago I sold my S3 for $200 and purchased a used silver AT&T HTC one for $450 from an electronics reseller here in OKC, Cdr electronics. I'm outside of my upgrade window and really wanted the One so i figured this was the best and least expensive route. The phone was in almost mint condition. Not a single flaw except the common gap on the speaker grills. I didn't get any packaging or accessories, just the phone itself.
Now about 3 weeks later I've noticed dust and lint under the glass about half an inch in from the volume rocker and it's really starting to bug me. Obviously it's a hardware defect, but I don't have the original receipt, only mine from the reseller. Is their anything i can do? I can return it for a full refund in the next week but I'm curious if there is any warranty at all i can utilize. Would AT&T do anything for me? HTC? Anyone else in this situation? Thanks!

Since you didn't get the phone from AT&T, I doubt they will give you anything on warranty. HTC warrants the phone for one year from purchase or 15 months from manufacture. The serial number of the phone identifies the manufacture date. If you call HTC, I wouldn't tell them any information they don't ask for. Also, if you send it back to HTC, make sure it is in full stock form. No unlocked boot loader and stock Rom. Remove all evidence of tampering with the device or they will deny warranty.

What kind of warranty did the business give you on purchasing it from them? If it's a shop worth their salt, it's at least 30 days. Can you take it up with them? If not, I would call HTC and talk to them about it. Just as dborgo states, don't mention that it was used and you should be fine. One user on here got caught up by volunteering info he shouldn't have and it cost him money for repairs. Simple Yes or No answers with a few vague responses SHOULD get you what you want.

I bought a One off CL and contacted att when I found a defect with the back camera. They sent me a new one with no issues. They had even asked where I purchased the phone and I told them off of a third party. I used the online chat. If you don't get the answer you want on the first call/chat just hang up and contact them right back. You will get through to a person who is helpful. Good luck

The official HTC Warranty
I took a picture of the warranty card that came with my One, since HTC's website is quite obtuse and the info was impossible to find. Basically, the HTC warranty goes to the original purchaser and is not transferable to a third party. That isn't to say that they won't work something out with you, but you should also be prepared to pay for the repairs if they find out.

I would guess your best bet is to go through AT&T. They are pretty good about warranties on the devices they sell. If they show your line using a ONE it shouldn't be a problem. If asked where it was purchased just tell them it was a 3rd party wireless retailer. Worst case scenario, I'm sure HTC will fix it for you but more than likely they will charge you at least 100 bucks. At that point you mine as well return it and buy a new one directly from HTC.

[Q] Sony ZU C6833 from Ebay???

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a cheap deal for the phone for Christmas. After checking the usual mobile network deals I'm not convinced to pay £38/ month for 2 years.
Instead I saw new phones on ebay for £370 from a trusted seller.
Phones come from "outside UK" warehouse(I'm located in the UK) with 2 pin plug. I wonder if these are dodgy deals, or worth trying it?
The seller itself is providing the warranty for one year and they have very good feedback.
Here is one : LINK
I simply could not find a cheaper one around. DO you think I could go ahead with the buy?

Please be advised that this item is sold without warranty, express or implied. Should you want to avail of a warranty for your item, you may purchase one separately from SquareTrade.

Hmmm, I'm probably in the minority here but I'd beware. Their shipping them in from China and for that price I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're clones. They do have good feedback, but I just don't see how they could possibly sell the real article that cheap without it being dodgy. My guess is if you were able to get it on a network, it would get locked soon after. The other reason I think it's unsafe is that the warranty is with themselves, not an official Sony warranty, which basically means there isn't one.
I'd steer clear.

Thanks for the feedback, that's what I'm looking for.
I'm about 50-50% and I need some more either negative or positive feedback about it to decide.
The problem is that the next phone up on ebay is £419 which is quite high :S
I want to stay on 3 network, so most online phone shops(carphone, mobiles, etc) is out
